8 years of total bullshite ..

I remember the Axis of Evil Speech I was working at the post office, I saw George W speak utter garbage about things which weren't relevant at that moment in time.. Iraq, North Korea ..etc my first thoughts was hey wait a second whats this got do with Al Qaeda .. by declaring nations evil .. totally dumb ..

A couple of weeks later he post office came under a security alert , I was working as cleaner there happened to be powder on the ground white powder i had to deal with it (now inother time I'd think nothing of it )but this was the era of Anthrax in the mail ..I weighedup situation(figured it to be it what it is) put bleach over it went back to my chores whilst everyone else stopped wor .. on my way out I saw the boys in biological outfits like a scene from "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" paranoia at its highest level...
next day I found out it was spilt milk9powdered milk all this fuss over spilt milk ..?
It struck me I was living in surreal times.

They Say Fight Fire With Fire , I say Fight Fire with Water ..it makes logical sense, I hope within the next four years sense will prevail again ..
I won't say Obamma's a saint just yet ..but c'mon its the end of a strange era which began with Bush dodging bullets(Someone tried to take a potshot of him within the first weeks of him taking office) to Bush dodging shoes.

Before I sink into the big sleep thought i'd share a few of my plans for monthes ahead just to let you know i'm still out there (kinda) as you can see i'm going to be very occupied with colouring project(The Black Major) i hope this will be of benefit to me as a challenge that I can live up to I hope to complete this within 4 monthes(hope christmas don't interfere too much so its soloid work with that .. b4 i hit hay i'm tortured by plots swimming around my head for stories and concepts that nag at me .. one such concept is returning to my own characters .. but this time a whole graphic novel(say about 250 pages) seeing as i'm working on a origin story at the moment it would be neat to do a origin story for Jonah Jacks Louisa Sheen and there world .. I kind of left it out in earlier stories .. but I figure this to be the correct way to establish these characters .. anyway I was more than impressed with the job Lulu did with the action force volumes they could do a few Jonah Jacks and Defiant Hardbacks I'm sure (it seems a logical idea right now anyway)

Sorry its taken so long to return to these pastures My Keyboard got knackered (using somebody elses at the moment)years of experience and I still drink beside computer when will I ever learn? Artwise I'm in a state of confusion I have this epic idea for a Star Wars story(maybe i'll just write it for now) , I also have commitments for Action Force as well as my own stories I'm in a bit of a dither at what to do.. but I recieved a cxopy of Action Force collection which includes 12 pages of my colouring as well as many other colourists work over classic Battle Action Force Stories abouut 24 quid or 30 quid for hardback edition but its lovely (I may think about using lulu for constructing a Graphic novel of some kind as it looks really good.. anyway check out [link] to see what I'm wittering on about

Come Monday I'll be in Czech Republic for a short Holiday not sure what to expect but I'm sure you will recieve intel when I return...
Still working on gthese 1980s Action Force stories and writing one of my own(whether I get around to painting and drawing it is another matter but its fun to write about characters that were part of my boyhood and giving them that Fuzzchilian slant you'll soon be able to read the outcome of this experiment . I also have 100 odd pages to colour for a bio comic of a villain The Black Major.. I'll see if I can work on a episode a week(about 3 to 4 pages a week ) stories a classic illustrated by Jim Watson(who worked on 2 Falklands stories very good draftsman) Geoff Senior (some very early work from him he's best known for working on Transformers and Zoids
I really like his art as he captures movement and action like no other) and also Josep Gual the Spanish Artist who worked on James Bond strips for Scandanavian publishers you will see why he was commissioned for Bond soon as you see his work .. which in all likelihood will be next year as its a tale of epic proportions ..but hey everything I do is of epic proportions

anyhow I'll be off soon to discover another part of the globe have a great weekend

GI John ...well it stands for Generally Infantile As you can see so far this month I've been doing lots of colouring for a project based upon the 1980s toyline Action Force for a website called Blood For The Baron [link] The Baron in Question is Baron Ironblood Bucket Headed leader of the Red Shadows a terrorist organisation that seem to forgotten the first rule of terrorism (they wear uniform..and bright Red to boot)Its been fun rediscovering these comics and I 'm in awe of the artists that worked on them , the colouring is going generally well I feel more relaxed with it than usual ..it's made me rethink my work approach ,I may return to my more traditional approach of pen and ink and mixing it up with photoshop colour ,watch this space to see how that develops .
I also feel inspired to write and illustrate a story based around The Action Force /Red Shadow Universe a prequel to the very first story set in 1983 (which would be an interesting time period to explore) I have story planned in my bonce it will possibly be entitled First Blood and various locations I have thought about setting this tale in include Tokyo ,Paris and its sewers ,Cuba and Afghanistan.. Action Force was at first a counter terrorist international brigade that's why it appealed to me as a kid it was a joint effort (In America it was GI Joe ..never liked the title and never liked the flag waving too much either ,Action Force seemed a more plausible and in some examples realistic scenario.. but the characters that I first discovered in Action Force(mainly the bad guys Destro, Storm Shadow,Cobra Commmander and The Baroness will make there film debut next year under The GI Joe monicker doubt they'll change title , but I'd like to preserve The Action Force Universe, seems like a good vehcile to write and draw stores about something which relevant now ..the threat of terrorists .
Saw Dark Knight last night ..Darks an understatement The Joker was up there with Scorpio in Dirty Harry .. but not sure I was entertained in say the way a normal so caled superhero movie usually entertains pretty heavy film in a way ...it makes you think about the randomness of life and death Khaos and Order.. lets just say it aint a laugh riot...

All yesterday i build up a T.V station from scratch and can be viewed or rather premiered at [link] I downloaded Veoh TV [link] and you can watch the whole thing with this programme as well as search for other shows that may have more individual appeal to your own interests.. but I think this is how television will be within the future , everyone could have there own station (kind of like how radio is going too).
So whats on my station..
Well for Starters what appears to be an extra long episode of the "Banana Splits" a show that must of came from George Clintons imagination after a hit from a huge bong (plus it was aimed at kids ) had to start off with that as thats one show i'd get out of bed for in the 1970s..
This is followed by the First Episode of Life On Earth written and Presented by The Gentlemans Gentleman David Attenbourough..if theres one show that would expand ones mind at the age of 6 then it was this show , certainly a must see for anyone curious about natural history (I will screen every episode as the weeks progress)
This is followed by a Documentary that details The Winter War between Russia and Finland in 1939 a subject that is going to feature somewhere along the line in my Comic Strip the Defiant so its good for my research on the subject(I'm bound to feature more historical documentaries as the weeks go by)
Comic Book Confidental follows this a well made film which deals with the history mainly of the american comic book (well up to about 1989 or thereabouts) it not only deals with generic Superhero type stories but also Underground comics and RAW (very good graphic novel type of magazine that I used to endulge myself on in the early 90s) on the whole essential viewing).
This is followed by a short cartoon of The Inspector (from the Pink Panther..)haven't seen it in years plus its looks great ..quickly followed up by an episode of The Avengers from about 1965 as I have a Diana Rigg thing plus its wonderfully British and silly . A Thee Michelle Gun Elephant Gig follows I don't understand a word of what Chiba is singing(maybe apart from the titles of songs which are sometimes in English) but they're fantastic and in my my top five all time favourite groups.
First Movie I'll be showing is also among my favourites Is Powell and Pressburgers masterpiece "A Matter of Life and Death" Or as it was dubbed in the States "Stairway to Heaven" starring David Niven ,Kim Hunter,Raymonde Massey and Roger Livesey.. just watch it you'll understand why I rate it so highly
The News follows (or rather a distorted version of the news)some music and then Episode 1 of The Hitchikers Guide to the Galaxy(much better than the movie) followed by a Bit of Fry and Laurie then an Episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus.
Withnail and I is the second feature film (If you haven't seen it I doubt you have ever seen a film like it , and you probably never see a film of its like ever again) a little more music and then Closedown (complete with Test Card)
Old School T.V the way its meant to be with no adverts and no con man politicans talking B.S...
i'll update schedules every fortnight

As for 2008.. well the events in Kenya and Pakistan are disheartning i try to be optimistic all I can say is Mike TV will be leaving the White House in November whoever replaces him will have an awful mess to clean up..

Cor Blimey its cold!

...but its almost Crimbo that makes things a little less bleak , caught up with my good friend Leon(aka Lord Flash Heart)aka(The Cobra) in Canterbury today first time within a year since i've been there for about a year. Strange place really a mixture of the arcane and the ultra commercial have admit I know which I prefer which will come very clear as I write further on.

Our mission was to buy presents which commenced at 12.30 hours and also to see if we could flog a few copies of Rumble, so we stopped off at the local comic shop chatted to the guy working there , asked him about small press and whether they'd be willing to sell some of my comics ..alas sadly it seems impossible, I kind of understand why as its to do with stock,barcodes and numbers , but he did give me some advice which may of worked about two years ago when I visited Brighton two years ago for The Big Comic Convention(but then I only had a prototype of the product I have now)..this years convention took place in Birmingham which was a bit too far for me to get to. So maybe next year if its a little closer I can flog a few but I figure I'll try out this six pager Dredd for now see if I get any reaction from Tharg the Mighty (I know He's a busy Ailen , the competions fierce and my approach is unorthodox.. but as Del boy Trotter many times said "Who Dares Wins" Another thing he mentioned is a store in Nottingham which specialises in Small Press so maybe thats worth a shot..

I was a little disapointed but not too disapointed. Comics tend to be all the same size and kind of samey looking in a way computer with processed colour,which I think more than often take away from the art work inside I prefer Big and Beautiful my plans are to make comics proper English Size(like a full english breakfast) I much prefer that to the typical miniscule American Format, as for colour you know the story ...

Guess the Revolution won't be overnight .. but in an ideal John Controlled world comics will be in Broadsheet format(actually Leon gave me a Broadsheet sized comic that he picked up from a conference he went to see Al Gore speak at) quite amazing really.

But I did manage to sell ten copies to a proper record shop,which is cool , I think Rumble is more about Rock N Roll than say Superhero crazed fanboy cravings .. I think over the years I've become alergic to Superheroes I guess (sounds crazy seeing as I draw comics ..but just aint my bag ..right now)..Science Fiction and history based Faction are my genres for now.

But as far as Christmas shopping one third of mission accomplished .. and I saw a hardback copy of "ARRRRGGGGH !" which compiles front covers of Commando ,Battle Picture Libary and War picture libary art work covers , very raw tough fully painted artwork which I loved as a kid ... very inspiring stuff(especially for my story "The Defiant" )As I want to paint with that drama and that explosion of colour each panel of my forthcoming comics with that Gusto!

So on the whole a mixed day but feel much better than I did about a month ago..

Funny time of the year, 2007 is on its deathbed and i figure I have to rearrange my life pretty radically, no more chasing shadows I guess I have to real objectives(this is partially why i'm gonna give it a shot at 2000ad ) but i have to be able to come to terms if i get a rejection letter back..whatever happens I still have Rumble ,but it would just be nice to have some dosh and my self respect back..
2008s coming i'm going to have to do some growing up(well kind of)

G'day Citizens.

I was going to brag about page 11 of Evil Hoodoo , which I was to submit today (it was a page I was seriously happy with Trigger Happy Slugging it out with Louisa Sheen and Masher Thompkins against a technicolour background .. took me ages and ages helped me a little to recover too but as November came to its very conclussion (November if you read last journal was a real git of a month) it played two tricks on me firstly I got the" blue screen of death" my computer froze up and died on me , this was followed by THe Death of Evel Kenevil which was the final straw Evel made my christmas of 1978 possibly the best ever.. So with all this bad luck behind me (fingers crossed) I've decided instead of getting bogged down by trying to reillustrate my lost page ..which is a ultrabummer for me .. I'd have a go at a Judge Dredd story which will be 6 pages long scripted and illustrated by yours truly , if I like the results I'll send it to 2000ad and see if at last I can get some employment .. its a drag not getting paid although you love what you do but i'm not going back to menial work ever again (had my share of that thank you not very much) so i'm going to go for it and do my damndest to produce some of my best work to date...even though main characters aren't my creations hopefully i can get the balance between something that nobodies seen before mixed with a certain familarity ..let me know what you think when i submit the fruits of my labor sometime this week

(Thanks to the Mozzer for the title)as it sums up the last month.
Woken up by the police this morning who phoned me up about E-Fit i did last week , those things are never dead right I provided them a drawing too one in black and white one colour, that was something disturbing to draw this monthes been dominated by the act of fools. I've lost vital time i wanted to go Canterbury to sell my comic to the shops there , buts its been a struggle to leave the house until recently , you see I was attacked just outside my doorstep and it wasn't late in the day(between 7.30 and 8pm in fact) so I'm viewing everyone in a hooded top who looks like a Chav (or a guest on the Jeremy Kyle with contempt... even though there completely innocent this incident has f**ked with my head)

Violence is always around me it seems. My Father died due to a act stupidity from a Taxi Driver who had mounted the pavement almost running over some kids and hitting my father in process my father irate as anyone would be pointed out this to the cab driver who instead of saying sorry he struck my father sending him down to the pavement 3 days later he was dead.. monthes after this there was a manslaughter trial they actually let this guy free(one of the jury couldn't speak English as far I recall and was expelled ) we recieved no compensation , no justice and in my mind no peace .. best years of my life ruined by a stranger and although not as serious as what happened in 1990 it feels a bit like that now .

My physical wounds are gone now , but i'm in a bit of a mess as to how to plan out the rest of my life , I think I'm sick of my hometown not sure where I want to end up but somethings got to change soon There are days when i feel so up like I have Superpowers or something then there are days where I feel like I'm trapped under ice this Novembers been like that (usually its one of my fave monthes but this one well its been a Bastard to be frank )
Maybe December will spawn an angel ..who knows

Bonjour
(latest journal named after Jacques Brell tune as I'm in Francophile type mood..listening to alot of 60's French Beat music today )

I thought i'd update tell you where its at on planet of the John... just lifted my printer back into my room kind of heavy laser printer thingy now I feel sore again which is a drag as I was beginning to feel better .. I'm a bit fed up of this "taking it easy" jive and if even moving a simple object is going to give me grief I don't feel too cool about that.. its been about a fortnight since I've left the house , I really need to breath in some fresh air again, as much of a recluse as I am not that reclusive.. I dream of traveling up to London and sipping a pint at the Dirty Water Club listening to some hipper than hip Beat Merchants.. but right now I can barely leave the house .. if I feel better tomorrow I'll give it a go and march to the nearest computer game shop(if I have any money)

Working on page 11 of Evil Hoodoo which is going to be a really busy page(plenty going on) as illustrated with a mouse.. which is my thing I guess I can't think of anyone else doing that in comics field , everyone works with line which is great I'm all for it, but at the same time I'm thinking perhaps I can take this further, true art is the deconstruction of what has come prior and trying something thats never been done before..thats the idea behind my graphics ..but I'm never truly satisfied photoshop opens up a world of endless possibility .
I figure though maybe its time I invested in Wacom Tablet see what door that open up to me
as much as I like painting with a mouse there seems to be an element missing which I had before(plus it takes ages) I wonder if a light pen would restore what I think is missing and perhaps speed up the productive process..
As well as Evil Hoodoo I'll be working on The Defiant, which I think I will be splitting into a trilogy of 6 different books for Example Book 1 -1939 book 2 -1940 book 3 1941 and so forth
second series of books will start of in 1963 and end in 1969 whilst the final installment will begin on September 11 2001 and end in the present day (although premature death depending I'll probably get around to completing story in my 80's )

working in comics today firstly my fave comic artist (apart from Joe Coloquhoun) Brian Bolland if you haven't seen his work before I envy you as I will always remember when I first set eyes on "Judge Death Lives" hen I was about 13 that I love this guys work [link]
Another guy who I've been hugely impressed with since about 1989 is Chris Weston who's attention to detail and style is following in Bolland and Frank(Dan Dare)Hampsons footsteps I'm surprised how productive he is due to the amount of detail that goes into his work [link] be sure to check the Brendan McCarthy video(its also on my myspace page)as Brendan's art is too ace for words
Finally I thought I'd add these two sites firstly as its what I aspire to do as opposed to line art , but to make every panel painterly and colourful in the way these guys produce front covers , I'm some way off from that but you get the idea of where I hope to get as far as colour and detail is concerned [link] Dave Dorman and [link]

Had a weird day , Ambulance came to my house today ,i'm still feeling the pains on my sides and my back from the beating the other week my eyes going back to normal but was in awful pain this morning, some nurses took my heart rate shaving a small portion of chest in process, which was weird hadn't seen flesh there since I was 14 one of them joke I could do a comb over..still hearts in perfect condition , but i've been getting myself all worked up to the point of agony and i should take it even more easy..which is hard for me as I need to be productive in this ultra competive world of comics.. been looking so its a drag just dreaming and not doing...

Howdy

been a little quiet around these parts last few days had my Nephews and my sisters down last couple of days , I gotta thank Joe for fixing my scanner,webcam,video recorder , getting my latest copy of photoshop working again and giving me a digibox for the tv , (I can watch BBC4 at last as well over 60 other channels (only prob is my tv aerials crap so i get digital TV Picasso style sometimes) but thanks man! Sean the younger nephews latest obsession is creating the largest Rubber Band Ball ever he's been scouting post offices stationaries and anywhere that sells rubber bands and is constructing a huge bouncy but destructive globe .

Seeing as I'm a subscriber right now thought be nice to take the chance to show some of my friends work(although completly self obsessed as I am Rumble Comics related (this stuff will appear in issue 2 and 3 in some shape or form)

Hi Fellow Deviatars.

One of the main reasons to resubscribe here is to be able to use Thumbnails again , I wanted to do this a few months ago but my ever reliable Bank failed to send my card on time(which ran out in June.. I didn't get it until September) so I couldn't resubscribe for eons any way heres issue two in its full glory apart from contents page and Wayne's(Spaceplant's) art and other assorted things , first few pages are a little ropey so I will be returning to them when it comes to the final printing which will proceed in a fortnight as well as cover which like the first one my friend David will be sorting out the type and logo

Sorry I just sneezed, seems like I got a cold all of a sudden..latest page is coming along too slowly my computers memory seems to be getting filled up I may need to take a few mp3s and avis to the recycle bin soon.

By Sunday I'll be yet another year older, for first time I seem to dread it as opposed to welcome it , I'll be 35 not sure I've achieved the things that I planned out in war room of my mothers womb.. I wonder how old Napoleon was by the time he was doing his thang , I get the feeling I should my skates on (not that I want to conquer Europe only in The Comic book sense) but tonight i'll have the daunting task of going through never ending tax forms its scary and irrelevant as I haven't made a penny(although I've secured a laser printer which turns my bedroom into a potential Fleet Street.. so I should be hopeful) but whatever

I'm now the proud owner of a Hewlett Packard Colour LaserJet 3800 (my very owner Laser printer) so i'll be churning out copies of Rumble left right and center myself as a in house printer .. as far as printers go its the nazz ..Superman in comparison to the printers I've used before.. so hopefully I'll get this comic up and running properly soon enough .. I've still have plenty of copies of issue 1 (printed by this very fine printer) kicking about just send me a note or a e-mail with your address and i'll send you a copy.. for £3.50 which is about 7 dollars i think or about 5 Euros (btw Bridie yours is on the way soon once i recover from paying for this printer ..should get to you at end of this month)
Art wise working on page 3 of The Defiant should be arriving soon too
but good news anyway printer will be the key factor to Rumbles existence

Back at my sisters(Zippy) with my other sister(George) as she needed help to travel back to her flat and carry her stuff on train , didnt bring any art materials with me as it was of short notice , I have tonnes to do regarding my new story "The Defiant" as well as "Evil Hoodoo" I've been running into alot of set backs regarding my printer(and his domestic life) may have to think of an alternative method of getting comic up and running again
For this week i think i'll do some research and write the second chapter of "The Defiant" as I can't really get into process of drawing just yet .. although I have many many visual and written Ideas flying through my head rewriting the 20th century is an ambitious undertaking (hope it isnt a pointless one ) but I think Rumble Comics should be about variety and deal with all kinds of genres,themes,eras and situations , this project is in a way a grand scale version of "Star Wars Infinities " or Marvels "What If ?" series only set in a more realistic envoriment , The Misadventures of Jonah Jacks ,Louisa Sheen,Harvey Keats and the other futuristic characters will also continue ..The primary aim is to get two pages of full colour artwork up a week if I do that I'll be suceeding at my aims .. This really is just the beginning but the big ideas are usually the best ones in my experience..hope you will enjoy my future work

also heard that Lee Hazelwood (a man with a voice so deep it can disembowel up to 10 miles died on the 8th and my fave svengali Tony Wilson(who managed Joy Divison , New Order and Happy Mondays and managed Factory Records..also the first man to put the Sex Pistols on TV as well as many other things passed away at the weekend ..if you don't know wjo this guy is i recommend "24 hour party People" which is a film about him

I Have decided to call my latest comic epic set in a alternative reality world war two story "The Defiant" (I was struggling to come up with a title , then it struck me whilst doing the washing up as decent titles tend to do all sneaky like)
Now have to come up with a decent logo for it .
Page 2 along the way soon first one to be painted in photoshop 9 (hopefully) Also after almost a years away from it i'll will resume The Evil Hoodoo storyline , i just have to doing some tweaking here and there for that ..so hopefully two full colour pages will be here sometime this week
