As you may have noticed, i have been absent.
School got distinctly harder between Thanksgiving and Christmas break, and left me with little time for photography and less for DA.

But I announce my return to you all in 2008. The new year has arrived, and it brings me back to the DA community. In the next week i hope to be especially active. I go back to school on tuesday, but my next term will be far easier.

Break has been pretty lazy so far. Im building my darkroom in the basement, but it wont be done by the time I go back to school.

I got a 50mm Nikkor lens for christmas, I like to brag that I now have Nikon's next to sharpest glass and for only 70 dollars. Its handy in low light, or if you need a small DOF. I recommend that every photographer have one. Not so versatile but SHARP and FAST.

Hope everyone else had a joyous Christmas and happy holidays.

I bought another camera and it made me happy. It cost ten dollars plus shipping. The total was fifteen. Now I have two. Of course, the new one has a broken battery door, Aluminum foil and type make it as good as new, Now i can shoot color and B&W at the same time, or, shoot B&W for school at the same time I'm doing my own stuff.
The simple language above is not because you are stupid. It is because I am to tired to vary my syntax.

A few thoughts on the Darkroom catagory and why it should have an electronic filter or a gallery director. [link]
A few thoughts on Gallery Moderators: [link]

Of course i love B&W and adding color is something i have touched upon but never really done before in earnest.
I bought a light meter for five dollars. Not only was it cheap, it doesn't even require batteries, Its pretty old school.

I will continue to feature someone for each journal i post. I will only feature one person at a time but will post more(6-7)of my favorites from that person.
This time it is:
~GalenJosephThoreau
Jordan and I share a love of darkroom photography, Galen Rowell (who i came along many years ago when googling my own name.) and the late Joseph J. Campell. We are both 17yo, he is a senior in HS, im a junior. He lives on the west coast, i live on the eastern seaboard. But whatever,we became friends a few months back. He is a better artist than me, and he deserves this feature:

EDIT~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Jordan added a new photo which is fantastic. I present "The Three Brothers": [link]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sunlight , A nice B&W.
Smoaky Sunset I couldn't resist this one,i think just because of the brilliant color.
Easter Sierra Storm I like the amount of detail in the foreground and the background!
First Rays This is Jordan's first photo that ever saw, it made an impression on me because it was so much like the work of G. Rowell
Lazy Days I laughed, i love llama
Rock and Clouds Impressive, it looks like a packaged background from Microsoft
Into the Valley No, he didn't desaturate that part in photoshop.
Also, i really really want and need a 50mm prime for Nikon right now, if anyone has one cheep, even if its f2.0 i really would love to buy it. I have literally $20 cash plus lots of debt for New Zealand so i cant afford a lot, but if anyone ever sees or has a lens like this for sale, let me know first.
I want to thnk everyone who reads this for
a. caring enough to do so
and b. staying with me through different changes in my art.
I had hardly ever done photography before i was 11, then i got a digital camera (top of the line 2.1 MP lol) I took pictures but the batteries were often dead and none of my stuff except for waterfallz was any good. That was my first decent shot. At about 15 i began to enjoy photography more and more and more stuff entered into my collection. I also took a B&W course at school which i loved. That was the beginning of my real art photography career. At sixteen i took most of the stuff thats in my gallery now, this includes all Maine and England shots. On February 28th I broke my PS635, which was the only camera that i had. I work for the school newspaper and they have a DSLR. I discovered the wonders of DSLR photography. I have taken countless shot between then and now, and most of my recent work is with the D70s. It is a constant borrowing sotuation and hope to find some money to buy my own D80 one of these days. Aslo during march i got my D55. Near the end of march I got PSCS2. I became addicted to making random Kanji stuff. When i went back to school my only option was photos. As Mr. Fox (a fantastic photographer [link]) says in his signature: "and i can put 36 of those on a single roll of film and they still don't add up to a second" I can do photos quickly, just take them and its so fast, for other art i need more time. However i am ALWAYS at my computer, as i found out from my good friend David Rome: I can make cool stuff in vary little actual work time. Apophysis is a great program that has allowed me to make my latest work, although it takes a few hours per piece i am free to do other things (like HW) while i wait. It is my new addiction, if you watch me, you wil se a lot oer the next few days, until i get bored it is an easy art, hope you like it.
If there is something that i have done before that you really like let me know, i always need ideas of new art to make.
If you have gotten this far i thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Enjoy, Galen
