Grr. I've let myself slip into another phase of feeling inadequate. I've written and drawn more in the past three days than the last three months, but absolutely hated everything. It's all been poor, even by my standards... My li'l wicker bin is litterally (See what I did there? ) overflowing with crumpled pieces of paper, and I've cancelled so many Terragen renders I've lost count.

I'm going to keep trying, of course, and I know I seriously need to get on with my outstanding requests, but don't be surprised if I don't produce anything posessing any level of quality for a few days...

Several things are currently contributing to my recent lapse in activity, and recently I've been generally pissed off by several annoying factors. Sarcastic rant begins here.

1) Thank you, next-door-neighbours, for installing a football stadium's worth of lights in your back garden, and making sure that when the sun's down, they're all switched on. The glow that comes through my closed curtains throughout the night is almost enough to read by, and I never lose sleep due to your lovely lights. I never wake up lethargic and pissed off, so rather than smash your lights with a sledgehammer and burn them, leave them where they are. Let them keep me awake until two in the morning every night. Lying in bed trying desperately to get to sleep is great excercise. And of course, my parents won't allow me to politely complain, because 'It's rude'. I'd rather hate everything because I'm twelve hours behind on sleep than have a bad reputation with the neighbours for complaining about their light display. Really. They're such nice people.

2) I love headaches. Really. Especially ones that last for days on end, and even make you feel like vomiting, too. I love it when aspirin does absolutely nothing, and the combination of such a headache with the lovely glow of those lights is truly inspiring, and I never wake up feeling like my head is made of melting shit.

3) Ah, the school syllabus. Wonderful. GCSE Computing, where we learn all about how microsoft word works, and delve into the wonders of making a database using microsoft access. The kids four years below us are studying Basic, and Photoshop sits unused on the school network, but that's ok! i'll just have to try extra hard on making up my chinese food menu in publisher. Such fun! Imagine how many industries my entry-level knowledge of MS publisher can get me into!

I am now going to try and sleep. I'm already dreaming. I'm going to open the shed, take out the biggest, rustiest spade, and brutally assrape some anthro floodlights with it.

I like to think of anthros as personifications of themes or ideals. Cat anthros tend to be cute. Dog anthros are usually strong and loyal. Dragons tend to be intimidating and powerful-looking. Etcetera, etcetera.

I like bird anthros because I want to personify the ideals of freedom and pride. It's challenging, and I know that many anthro artists wouldn't give my poor-quality pictures a second glance, but I try. And I AM improving. I post deviations that are easily surpassed by many artists' scraps, but I intend to change that. Whether it takes a year or a decade, I will improve my abilities until I can give my dreams believable forms.

Right now, feathers I draw look like poorly arranged spikes. One day, they will be sleek and believable.

Right now, my knowlege of anatomy and perspective is so limited, I can only really draw my characters in 2D, from the front. One day, I will be able to draw fight scenes, love scenes, sad scenes, sexy scenes, scenes of darkness and of happiness... Whatever my mind creates for me.

Right now, I am a little-known deviant posting art that is inferior and ignored. One day, That will change. Oh yes.

But if you're still learning, why bother posting your works here when there are so many far better artists around?

Yeah, It's kinda depressing to look through the far superior gallery of someone my age, but I post my art here in the (somewhat vain) hope that people with experience will leave critique and help me to improve my style. Ultimately, I'd like someone to...take me under their wing, as it were. I know there's so much I can learn here, so lurking in the shadows and merely admiring the works of others isn't something I want to do any more.

And besides, at first glance I appear to be the only anthro artist dedicated to birds on this site

Sometimes I feel as if there is honestly no point in posting here. I submit something that takes me an hour or so of my life, hoping for comments and advice on how to improve, and after weeks I can still count the views on my fingers, and I can count the comments on my tails. (I don't have any tails? How convenient!)

I draw Bird Anthros. With an HB pencil. In black and white. It's terrible, but I try. Why? Because I want to improve. And I will keep drawing bird anthros. With my HB pencil. And I will keep posting them here. I draw for myself, to get emotions and thoughts out of my head. Over time, I will impove. And whether I'm going to improve quietly in the shadows by myself, or with support and fresh ideas from others, Is not my decision...

I know that I lack the experience, and possibly the talent, to put my dreams onto paper. But as long as I have dreams and ideas, and want to personify my desires for freedom and pride, I will persist in trying. In a hundred years, nobody will care about the markings a child has made on a sheet of paper. But right now, someone cares. I care.

Nokame: Good point. Perhaps it would do me good to come out of my shell a little.

Doomed: I owe myself a severe beating

FO: I usually get upset by the fact that nobody even seems to acknowledge that I've put effort into what I've posted here, but as Doomed and Tingle said, I need to whore myself out a little.

Navi: I always feel obligated to comment on my friends' work. I'm not that experienced in art (well duh) so I don't leave many criticisms, but it feels great, especially when you're a newbie like me, to recieve confirmation that your peers and betters actually do acknowledge your effort. You write? I'd be glad to read and offer critique on your writing if you wanted me to.
