yes, in an amazing feat of mental prowess I have somehow managed to graduate from Kutztown. You heard right. I, Sean Ross, have once again graduated college (for the second time).

ok ok. I'm done tooting my own horn here. Basically I somehow managed to actually get my shit together and finished school. As of nine something tommorow morning my school will be announcing their fall 2009 graduating class. Many people in nice robes will be decked out in thermals underneath due to the impending snow storm. So where will I be in all this fun and excitement?

At work. Yep. I will be safely inside the Flourtown Acme pushing milk bread and eggs across a little red laser beam while my fellow graduates strut across a metal plank into adulthood. See it's supposed to blizzard tommorow and no amount of celebration will convince me to step out in zero degree weather like some kind of weirdo in a Harry Potter costume. So i'll be making money. YAY MONEY!

In related news this means I need to find other employment other than the ACME which, up until now, has safely paid my tuition and car bills. But I want to move on and leave the room on the second floor of my parents house sometime in the next year. I actually have no bloody clue what or where I'm going to find a job. But I will. and rest assured it will be awesome. In the meantime I will use my free time to work on the novel. I believe I've come to some very interesting conclusions on how to handle some situations within. On Tuesday I begin the process of writing it. I'm hoping that when I show some of you the work that you really like what I have done.

In other, totally unrelated news, I began playing my copy of Pokemon Platinum and am happy to report that I have sucessfully maxed out my Infernape to level 99.

go me.

*I posted this as a discussion topic on my Facebook page and got some cool results.*

This morning I read a review for the upcoming film 'The Lovely Bones' by Ed Gonzales of slantmagazine.com. In reflecting on the subject of the girl's time in Heaven he says:

"This is an exciting but compromised vision that becomes boring when one considers how the nightmares and dreamscapes of little girls (as in Pan's Labyrinth) are too often related on screen by male filmmakers as glossy fairy tales while the ecstasies and horrors experienced or hallucinated by young boys (as in The Devil's Backbone) are conveyed on much earthier—more true-to-life—terms. "

this got me me thinking about the fantasy stories that revolve around children and in the ways they are told. I feel that the author of this review does indeed have a good point. The two examples he uses are both masterpieces by Guilermo Del Toro (Better known as the director of the Hellboy franchise). In Pan's the young girl is in a war (Possibly WW2) and so she escapes into a fairy tale kingdom that begins to play out agaisnt the horrors of the war that is enveloping her life. In his Devil's Backbone, Del Toro takes similar themes of a young child trying to survive a war (Spanish Civil War), only this time it's a little boy in an orphanage. Like the girl in Pans, the boy is constantly tortured mentally by outside forces that makes him withdraw into himself. In his pain he begins hearing noises and, eventually, sees the ghost that haunts the grounds.

The same idea can be held in the use of literature as well. In JK Rowling's 'Harry Potter' the magic adventures are, for the most part, taking place in the same time and place as the mundane everyday world that we inhabit. If one looks at Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury the mystical circus exists in the real world and the magic bleeds out into the lives of Will and Jim.

If we look at Alice In Wonderland, Coraline, Wizard of Oz, all these girls must enter into an alternate phase of the world or another dimension in order to experience their adventures.

so what are your thoughts.

Well the last 8 or so years of my life are about to come to a close. If all goes well by the end of December I'll be finished college and on to the next stage. On Tuesday I'll be finished with my internship at MONTCO and by the end of the week I'll have the majority of my portfolios finished for final submissions. If those go well then I will a member of Kutztown University's graduating class of 2009. if I'm not then I'll figure something out. Keep watching this space to find out!

My Book:

As many of you know I've been slaving away at various novels of the course of the last few years. Well the good news on that front is that lately i've been making some decent head way with the series and hopefully soon I'll have the time to sit down and plug away at the actual writing of it. As it stands the first set of books I wish to write are based on a female character named Emma Docherty. Set sort of like the Harry Potter books the series will follow the lead character through her life up until about the age of 26 or so. unlike the Potter books it won't be one long magnum opus that tells one story as it goes along. My plan is that each book be basically a self contained adventure in this girl's life.

The books will also alternate between this world and the world of Daelin, a place of my own creation (in the vein of Narnia and such), sometimes being partly between both worlds as they go on. At this point I have plans for five books in the Emma Docherty series.

In those plans I have certain points with characters built in where I can spin-off adventures of other characters. Like the ending of the second book involves one of the lead characters basically sacrificing himself to bring Emma's adopted brother from the underworld. A future book will follow this character as he travels through a version of the underworld in a quasi retelling of Dante's Divine Comedy (My favorite thing I've written so far:
"To tell you the truth, Waters. You humans have so many personal demons that I could raise an army with them. Wouldn't even have to draft my bretherehn. The only problem is they have so much damn baggage." )

The version of the afterlife I'm using isn't exclusivley Christian or jewish or islam or anything like that. I've read over 30 or 40 books in the last year or so (been planning this story for a long time, longer than much of the Emma stuff) on the nature of afterlife belief in most religions and am currently choosing the aspects of each one that kind of overlap (much like I did with the folklore a while back). Much of what I will end up writing will also probably not be what I personally believe and I know will piss off different people (it already has with some). But I will say that it will be most telling of my views on religion on whole (I'm not the most favorable on religion).

Each of the the Emma books right now have about 40 or 50 pages of notes typed up. I have complete histories of both the fictional real world and the world of Daelin. extensive character bios. Thigns seem to be finally coming together for me right now. Let's hope this keep up, right?

so that's what is going on with me.

It's funny how interesting ideas come out of the completely mundane and normal. My latest developement in the building of my novel actually comes out of reading the current issue of Game Informer. In the latest issue there's a beautiful article discussing what the makers of video games have to go through when they are building their video game universes. It discussed the large backlog of story and information that the companies create in order to be able to tell a coherent story. The one thing they discussed was the Elder Scrolls series and how every tiny thing in the series has over 80 pages worth of documentations surrounding the history it. This basically got me thinking more on my own work, my fictional universe and how everything in it ties together and how alot of my problems with developing it is because I really don't have that much involved in its history.

As some of you know I have two correlating universes that, in certain points, have intertwined together. One universe is our own. Outside of very small things its histories more or less mirror the literal histories we have experienced. On the other side of that is the entirely fictional alternate world I've created called Daelin. For the most part my basic premise is that it's a place where mythological creatures of the majority of Earth's cultures actually live- thus giving reason as to why we barely ever see them in our world. In various points there are portals to entering the world of Daelin. As far as the history of this place is concerned it really only stretches as far back as is needed on the project that I'm working on is concerned. I kind of make up the geography on the fly and, as i've noticed a time or two, this contradicts things i've written in other tales. I've had character heading itno mountains in the north where, in another story, there had been farms and small towns.

Its all things i've said 'well, i guess ill figure that out later, let me finish this paragraph..." and never do. Well I need to do that at some point. that some point is this weekend.

Now we come to the title of this fun and boring article. Later int he Game Informer there was a review for a Nintendo DS game called Nostalgia. The basic premise of the game is that it's 19th century London and the world is a strange mic of industrial revolution and magical powers (i believe this is referred to in some places as Steam Punk, though I may be mistaken). For some reason this got me thinking of how different things could have been if the world had taken different courses. This led me into thinking two things: what if the Nazis still held control in Europe. It also got me thinking about Pangaea.

Hopefully I don't need to discuss the Nazis with you. Now Pangaea is a bit more obscure knowledge. In the world of Geology the Idea of Pangaea is that the worl'ds continents, as they are today, is the effect of seismic shifting of the continental plates in the Eaths surface. Somewhere a few billion years ago the continents were part of a massive landmass called Pangaea. It is this mega landmass that is where this alternate world will take place.

Here is an outline of what the Pangaea is theorized to have been about.
[link]angaea_continents.png

Now I'm not naming this whole thing Daelin. No. What this new land mass (in my universe) will be called I don't know. But you see that part where it is outlines and stamped 'North America'? That's now called Daelin. Each of the other continental outlines will also be renamed as different countries and kingdoms. the other pieces of the Pangaea map will be smaller countries, provinces, protectorates or towns.

now to create the history!

So last night I finished what I hope is the FINAL outline of the fist book in the "Emma Docherty: Adventures in Daelin" story (currently now 6books, 4 "Emma" books and 2 side adventures featuring minor characters). While doing the outline I came up with ideas for a fourth volume featuring Emma (hence the 4 Emma's mentioned above). Initially I had planned on writing Emma off at the end of book 3 but then realized I couldn't quite do that, even in an outline form.

Tentatively the third book would take place with her in the mid 90s and around age 16 or 17. The fourth book will take place in current time of 2008 and she'd be almost thirty, making the series span a timeframe of almost twenty years. the character will be over the fucked up stuff that happens to her in the earlier books and moving on with her life. She has a fiance, is a shift manager at a restraunt owned by her best freind, lovin' life and suffering from horrifying nightmares.

I used to think I was beyond killing off my characters and feelin' bad about it, but I suppose i'm not. When i get there maybe I'll kill the fiance or have the restraunt blow up in a thermo-nuclear explosion, killing the entire town EXCEPT the four or five people who I've introduced to the audience. Turn the whole book into a parody of those disaster films where the disasters kill everyone BUT the leads (the Day After Tommorow is on TV, how Emmerich as a career sill is beyond me)

Also when I was working I began thinking about maybe re-opening my old myspace. As much as i'm into Facebook, I must admist that I miss the ability to change shit around in the myspace. Like I'd always have fun playing with the different fonts and the backgrounds and such. Basically, it fulfilled my secret dream of being a web designer without actually doing any of the work. But if i were to re-open it would it be really worth it?

so thoughts?

my head fucking hurts.

yeah, i'm sure that's not what not what ya's thought you'd read by that amazing introduction of a title ya'll got. so tot hat: HA!

moving on. yeah, my head hurts. why does my head hurt? Can't rightly say. Seriously, i can't. Just does. Though, it probably has something to do with me having sat here for close to three hours typing and mashing at this keyboard and staring into a computer screen while trying to remember weird things that occurred almost two weeks ago for a journal entry that should have been submitted a week ago. I've been a bit late as of late on my school work.

The last two weeks have been basically a long stream 'fuck this' style situations. It almost seems pointless some of this shit I'm doing to myself. By this i mean my course load schedule, coupled with my internship at the College and my job at the store, i'm stretched pretty damn thin. often, i'm finding myself working at the college from 8 or 9 in the morning till about 4 or so in the afternoon, leave then and go home. once home I shit, shower and change from business clothes into my work uniform to be at the ACME at 5:30 and stay there till about 10 or 10:30, depending on how busy we are. I go home and I am too tired to do jack shit so i just go to sleep and do it all again the next day. On my days off from the ACME I'm workin' on my school work for the Senior class i'm taking. I don't get much time for myself.

this is all cutting into novel developement time. I'm making some awesome head way in terms of where i want in terms of character developement and such, but i'd like some time to actually write this thing. I can plot and outline this thing till im blue in the face but it's not getting it written any faster. i mean, unless i'm not mistaken, the purpose of planning the outline of the novel is to, i dont know, write the bloody thing.

ugh.

so this week was wasn't a complete washout. I was able to get all kinds of dressed up and go to an 'etiwuette' dinner and learn how to eat like a fancy rich person- which I am NOT. yeah, i dont know why the frak my school requires me to go to a dinner based around centuries of 'tradition' thats got a history that amounts to bullshit and circumstance. I got to sit in a room full of people i half knew and learned how to eat in a fashion that was taught to me when I was a little kid. that's right, I know how to eat in an etiquette dinner- I just choose to eat like a fat American slob.

oh and Wednesday was my 28th. For my birthday I got a 100 dollar gift card to Best Buy from my folks. I put that towards the Zune HD (AKA: technological crack in silver metal)
So at any given time you will see me with my Nintendo DS, Zune HD and a five year old cell phone that I refuse to upgrade because of my hesitation to sign another two year agreement. All i need now is a grappling hook and I'm Batman.

I also got a book about the late Harry Kalas, TV announcer of the Philadelphia Phillies (baseball team), a Phillies Championship T-Shirt, and a copy of Wolverine on DVD.

Speaking of Phillies- I've been really hoping they get into the World Series again. Unfortunately (or fortunately) my other favorite team,Boston Red Sox, are also in it to go to the series. This puts me in a bind: Who the hell do I root for if both the Phils and the Sox go against each other?
And for some reason I'm in a Nirvana mood.

over the next couple days You'll be seeing something of a cleaning house in my gallery. This is, in part, the the events of earlier today (i refer you to the previous journal).
I don't know, part of me is still stunned at finding that photograph posted up like that. I'm hurt by it, the lack of common decency shown, but most of all i'm pissed too.

I like my photography and i enjoy doing it.I post the pieces on here for others to enjoy. But in doing this I did not allow the CCliscencing agreement on anything i've uploaded. The CC liscencing is what allows anyone to basically take your stuff and use it at their will or desires. Deviant Art allows this but ONLY if you click a buttom. None of my pieces have this button allowed. I feel that, as the work's creator/ owner/ copyright holder it is in my own interest alone in how my work is distributed and used. i have no issues with people using my work on sites like that as long as they do two things:
1) contact me to make sure it's cool with me.
2) Credit me proper.

the sight did neither thing. When I'm a published novelist it will not read 'Deathcahrmer's Daughter: a novel by Metal4666 (my XBL name)

So begining tonight and over the next few weeks I'll be removing various pieces from my gallery. The first batch I removed are my writings because if anything were to be reprinted there'd be less chance of me sucessfully fighting that.
over the weekend I'll beging pulling the photos of the children in my gallery, namely Timmy and Abby my niece and nephew as well as my cousins. People can do wahtever they want with photos of me, but if I find any of the children in my family then...yeah. i dont think i need to explain what my reaction will be.

I go to you guys for a creative outlet and get feedback on things photography. Same goes for the updates on the Deathcharmer's Daughter, the novel I'm plotting and researching. I also have come to consider many of you my friends and know you like my stuff (or else ya'll wouldn't be watching/looking at me).
I'm not sure there's going to be much of a point to this blog other than it's me killing time becasue of how bored I am. So heads up if you're expecting some kind of life altering experience, cause you ain't getting.

So right now I'm sitting in my 'office' (file room with a desk and computer) and running down addresses on google and updating iles. basically I open files and make sure people and companies still exist. It's actually much more interesting that it sounds. As I do with everyting in life I'm finding out interesting things about people and companies that may actually help me in the world. doubtful. but maybe. When i'm finished updating these files I'm going to be able to work on the novel.

Rammstein is helping me out alot in focusing and stuff. i've been listening to alot of Rammstein lately.

In the last week or so I've been pretty hardcore about getting the novel at least fully outlined so i can write it. As you may have read in the last journal I'm trying build a villain for them to face with. I have one fully (for the most part) fleshed out and ready to rock. Honestly, outside of Emma Docherty and a couple others Dr. Bluth (shortened from Kornbluth, Eugene Levy's crazy scientist in Splash) is really the only fully fleshed person (meaning i know who, what, where why etc. of him). As some of you may know in the novel I have this other reality called Daelin. Now Bluth is an expert on the nature of the realities based on records and legends from both worlds. According to this character Earth and Daelin have grown and developed around the same time. In certain points through out the planet there are overlaps in the two realities that allow things to pass through between world. This accounts for the sightings of various 'cryptids' that have been reported throughout history (Bigfoot, Loch Ness, Chupachabra, mermaids etc.) and also why there not as abundant here as Squirrel or trout (they simply have gone back home). He also feels many of the missing person cases from both worlds are simply people who've crossed from one place into the other and either stayed on their own or had gotten lost and unable to return.

so that's where the novel is kind of right now. Basically that whole thing i just described will be a factor in much of my books or stories, even the ones not directly related to Emma's adventures. anywhom, i should get back to work on these file updates.

so once again I've declared myself back to square 1-ish in planning the novel. I think i've figured out where my issues with my book are coming into play: I don't have a strong villain for young Emma to go against. I mean sitting here now and writing this it seems so freakin' obvious. I mean I always had this kind of play in the back of my head of generalities of the big villain but beyond him being a few general things I never really developed him much. Same goes for his team that works with him. For all of them I have quick sketches in notebooks and how their powers-or non powers- work.

so now I'm basically going to take the next couple weeks and try to sit down and truly develop a keen cast of villains that will run through the three volumes detailing Emma's life in Daelin.

In thinking of 'villains' I've begun delving into classic and modern heroes and their villain counterparts. So I started last night with the most famous in modern cinema: Luke Skywalker and Darth Vader. I chose Vader to look at first because, well, up until the prequels he was the most evil mother fucker in cinema (sorry S. Wars fans- the prequels sort of klled it for me). the Way he just walked into that ship in the opening and just choked people to death and through the rest of the film he was set up as this overbearing force. He just had to be in the room and it was cold.

As always the villains must compliment some parts of the hero. share certain qualities with her- either portions of the past, maybe similar powers and then have them slightly twisted in ways that the hero wouldn't even imagine using them. Such is the same with Luke and Vader. Both have tremendous powers to use the force, wield the lightsabers, are effective pilots. Those three traits compliment eachother and are somewhat unique to them in the scehme of the films. in the original star wars the only other characters who held the abilities of the lightsaber and force were Ben Kenobi and the Emperor who can be considered the mentors to Vader and Luke respectively (again this is not including the back stories presented by the prequels).

In 21st century I suppose it can be also said for Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort. Both the hero and villain share certain qualities (parseltongue, adept at using the same wand, greatest wizard of all time etc.). It could almost be said that the story of Riddle and Potter has certain overlapping details of childhood: Both were orphaned as children (both at the hands of Tom Riddle himself), both had difficult childhoods adjusting to life and showed, at an early age, the power of talking to snakes. But it is single fact that Harry's life prior to his parents death was full of love (and his mother's final sacrifice) that made him a vessel of good wherein Riddle's family being notorious assholes made him the evil sonofabitch he would become. Like Vader in the first two movies- for most of the series Voldemort is mainly seen in glimpses but his power is ultimately felt wholly. Hell even the very mention of his name instill fear in people that they don't even say it.

so that's where I am. I'm trying to build a cast of villains that will compliment Emma and her merry band of heroes. thoughts on the subject?

Not sure what exactly I should write, i just know its been a couple weeks since I've actually done writing on here and, to be honest, I hate not writing shit about my life and such. I know only about 5 of yous even read this and maybe half of yous comment. thought I've gained some new watchers so we'll see how it goes.

Today brought to close the second week of my internship at Montgomery COunty Community COllege- as my friends and followers on Facebook are aware. More or less I've been doing various types of press releases that are posted on the schools website of that people are able to see what's coming along.

that all being said when I come home I'm not quite int he mood to be writing after doing it all day so, hence, my novel is STILL not being worked on. but at least I'm learning more writing skills.

Back in June i said I was sending out various stories for publications. I recieved word about two of them and both answers were no. the editors said my stuff was really good and that they'd love to publish them, howevor they are set for the next few months. they want me to re-submit again in another 5 or so months- after the holidays are well over and they reach their slower period.

I've also been workin on a story the week or two when i've been on my break during the internship. The story is titled 'Dead Man's Song' and it's a kind of modern re-telling of an old legend that surrounds bluesman Robert Johnson. According to the Legend Robert Johnson (who, by the way I suggest everyone check out at some point)wanted badly to become a master of the guitar. I expressed his desires to some local friends who told him to meet his at the crossroads outside the edge of town and wait for a man to arrive. After a couple hours Robert was getting his things and starting home when He arrived. A large black man in a fine tailored suit approached the young Robert. Robert, knowing the man to be the devil, handed over the guitar. The devil tuned the instrument and performed a few songs and gave it to the man. Once the guitar passed back Robert was gifted with the ability to play. Legend says once he was handed back he was then the greatest bluesman ever to touch the guitar.

So basically i'm done the full outline of the first novel- The Deathcharmer. The second book: Colors of Mist (temp. title) is about a chapter or two outlined and the third book: Darkness of Denil was outlined 3 years ago but will go through revisions as I develop the other storylines.

in other 'emma' news. I've been having these weird ideas amd images of a comic strip involving Emma prior to the series. basically its a slapstick adventure of her and her best friend Maggie and a little boy named Dougie to run around there home town hunting for make believe monsters only to find that they are actually real (think &#039up named scooby doo' but with real monsters). I don't know if i'd actually do this but i had a few things scripted that i found funny- both as a parody of horror and as a parody of the 1980s.

you may have noticed that I just uploaded about 6 or 7 photos earlier this evening (if you commented or faved I'll get to those tommorow). Basically it's all i've done Photo wise in the last three weeks since I started workin' on Chronicles of Delain Book 1.

As far as the novel goes- I've hit a decent stride again. i needed to take a few days to regroup my thoughts on what I wanted and where I was leading. I also needed to take some time to really understand where Emma was coming from. Why in my head she was making these decisions but they were against my originally conceived notions of who she was. I feel I've taken the proper route and cross examined her and have come to some rather interesting conclusion. I'll give you a little bit of that now:

The actual title of the book will be 'The Deathcharmer' (more on that later)

--If you talked to me on AIM, MSN, or in person you know I ideas was for her to be around 7 or 8 years old. She is now 10 years old. I've noticed she thinks and talks in a manner that really wasn't in a way single digit kids really talked (at least the ones around where I live). I also wasn't fully satisfied with how the character had no real abilities. I mean, yeah, she was smart and stuff but overall there really wasn't anything very special about her- nothing that set her apart from any other man woman or child in the story. So the girl is now what I am calling a Deathcharmer. think SnakeCharmer but with corpses.

--I've gone back and reworked my original outlines. The basic plot points I set out in the begining are all still intact, i've just added a bit more events in chapter 1 and chapters two and three have basically been doubled. The previews I gave you last week of Chapter 2 have either been scrapped entirely or rw-written to accomadate this awesome character (a character so awesome that he doesn't even have a name yet!) I made. Basically I realized chapter 2 wasn't going anywhere because nothing was really giving the character much focus tog et through anything- so me, the writer, had no real purpose to get through it. By adding basically adding a Lord of Death wandering through that cemetery it gave the chapter some much needed electicity to jump start it.

-- As a few of you know I have plans on at least one direct sequel featuring Emma. Now I've figured the plot far enough down the line to bring out two sequels. the titles of the two books with her and one other Delain book feauring a different lead character.
Book 1: The Deathcharmer
book 2: The Color of Mist
Book 3: The Darkness of Denil
Book 4: The Mark of Redvine

--the whole first novel is outlined. the first 3 chapters of the second are also outlined. The third book has been more or less outlined for the last 3 years (long story)

-- I've written the first two chapters of Deathcharmer as well as the last two chapters. in a short thing- i actually kinda got choked up writing the last couple scenes. never did that with any of my own work before.

--can you tell I'm psyched about this?

okay guys I think i'm offically old. Like, seriously officially old. Coming up in the 80's and 90's I've pretty much have been either Punk, Metal or Grunge in my dress and life styles. At some points my Metal phase (which, BTW is still very much alive within me) had encroached upon a sort of weird amalgalm of metal and Goth. any given day I wore black or dark blue jeans, black boots/ sneakers, metal band shirt and a flannel. I more or less haven't shaved (or haven't gone more than a few weeks without shaving) since the age 15.

After High school Goth had (from what i've seen) replaced pretty much metal in my old HS interms of 'alternative style'. I was OK with that becasue I honestly understood the goth movement. After Goth came 'emo' which is where my dissassociation with things has begun. I don't get the 'Emo' movement and recently found all that all these great songs by Fallout Boy were- infact- all songs by completely different bands that all sounded Identical to Fallout Boy. so shitty music and people whine alot- ok fine have fun. Gimme my Metallica.

then a few weeks ago a bunch of girls in their early 20s came in to the store wearing tigh black jeans and bright colored everything else. their was sprayed up a few inches and reeked of Aquanet. in short they looked like they walked out of the 80s. At first i thought they were at some kind of 80s night at a club but i've noticed since then a ton of teenagers coming around looking like the 80s. So if there are any 'scene kids' running around my DA site please indulge me in what the fuck is scene.

this chapter is pissin' me off. seriously pissing me off. I've spent the last 5 hours slaving on this thing and only have half HALF of what I want done done. it's slowly coming out but I feel like it's 'good good good- great- shit- shit- shit- ok ok- great' instead of GREAT! all around. anywho I'm posting here what i have right now. I've gone through three note books on these few paragraphs. lemme know waht ya's think.

Chapter 2: The ghost and emma docherty
“Helena.”

A voice in the blackness calls out. The sound is human and, at the same time, not. ‘ It’s more of a melody than a voice’ she thinks s her mind registers the sound. It is then Emma feels as though someone is standing at the top of the stairs staring down at her.

As the presence simply stands her instincts tell the young girl’s instincts tell her to run- back through White-Eye’s chamber and into the arms of her parents. That initial fright passes, however, once she takes a steady breath and leans herself against the cement wall. Looking back into the dark she could sense no ill will from the creature and felt its gaze was simple curiosity. For a moment she considers turning back again but then grabs the walls as a compulsion moves her to take those first steps.

With the small bits of light that broke through the large doors she was able to make out her surroundings in the darkness. The walls of the room she found herself in were high enough that they faded into the shadows. Getting closer she could make out shelving spaced about five feet apart above the one below it and reached toward the ceiling. On each shelf sat several rectangular boxes- stacked four on top of the other.
‘How tall is this place?’ she thought as she made her way toward the building’s entrance. She presses her hands against the cold metal and began pushing until a large black chain prevents the door from moving anymore. She steps back a moment and tries to see outside, only seeing an overgrown path and another stone building across from her. She slowly works her body through the gap.

Once free she could see the figure much clearer now. The presence in the chamber had been a woman- seemingly no more than early thirties- her gray skin tight against her face, making the bones more pronounced as well as slightly peel back the lids of her faded blue eyes. Her long red hair hung low- draping around the skeletal shoulders like a cloak. Its knotted with years of sweat and grime giving her an appearance of a living raggedy ann doll.

Hey guys i apologize wholeheartedly for not having chapter 2 post up yet. as this week came about i've a few private life issues come about that has prevented me from really sitting with it. those issues aside the main focus of my non-writing has been the beatiful world of the BBC. yes you heard correct- the BBC has prevented me form enjoying the world of my novel. For a number of years I've been a Dr. Who fan (as i'm sure it's no wonder to any of you who know me- virtually or in real life) and I've always wanted to see the show Torchwood (spin-off of Dr. Who that's basically CSI with Aliens)so i broke down and begun downloading the show for the Zune.

here we are almost a week later and I'm finished season 1 and through the first couple eps of season 2. next week Children of Earth comes out on DVD states side and I'll be buying that. I've developed a new celebrity crush on the actress Eve Myles who playes the lead actress Gwen Cooper. She's bringing this everyday woman quality to her character that is lost on the rest of the cast and her toggling between her live in boyfriend and her relations with the torchwood crew is one of the most fascinating character studies ive seen in a series since the early episodes of Scully- the skeptic- going against mulder-the believer.

So I saw HP6 last night and in short it was a long long movie- but it actually felt rather short. overall it was beautifully shot, and certainly pulled the best performances from the cast yet. Going in i was reading several reviews comparing the love sick plays between Ron-Hermione and the creepy stalker girl (had flashbacks of an ex girl friend watching the train scene)to the lovesickness of Twilight. actually i read alot of this film being compared to twilight. ALAS! where twilight was a jumble of tears and creepy stalker-ish vampire boyfriendiness HP6 plays its scenes with a wicked sense of humour that had my stomach hurting from laughing so hard. the 'love chocolate' scene was seriously Rupert Grints finest performance in any film (yes i've seen him in other projects outside Potter). As far as harry goes- there's an opening scene set in a late night diner where he's makin' moves on a waitress- Radcliff'es mannerisms and language felt natural of a young man hittin' on a waitress versus his scenes in Order with Cho that felt like he was 'ok go here, kiss cho, be swooned next scene'.

Now the next section is slightly directed to the American Audience- I don't know how the hell this thing got a PG rating. the scene with Katie Bell being cursed by the necklace was downright horrifying- her face contorted in that silent scream- the eyes glazed of fear- was certainly not something i'd want a child to see. Of the plot points concerning the Voldemort Saga- that's actually really tame compared to other stuff.

above all i give the film 4.5 out of 5 points.

As for the book- outside of being quasi obsessed with torchwood for the last five days another problem i've been having has been finding the words to begin the chapter. I've got some of the conversations written and a few of you have seen snippets of this grave Emma finds. I dont have the begining yet. So when i have the begingin you will get chapter 2- promise. probably this weekend.

I knew my goal of a chapter a week was too good to be true...

for those of you following along with my novel I'd like to say chapter 2: The Ghost and the Mermaid (possibly renamed to Ballad of the Two Dead Babies) is coming along at a slower than expected speed. I had expected myself to be well under way in the writing aspect of thing and maybe even a couple pages in by now. Unfortunately other than a few sentences and a page of ideas I really have nothing done on it. I had specific plans to do with this chapter but have found myself, instead, going a somewhat different direction that makes things a bit more on the horror-mystery side; not the PG level children's fiction that I had originally planned on. I dont know- it's just where the story is heading i guess. I'm reworking the original outlines to reflect the new ideas and direction. So instead of my plans to have the thing posted tomorow night I'll have part of it set and posted on Monday and hopefully have the rest up around wedsday.

And also at the enthusiasm of my friend Kaity Jo, I'm working on developing the story around Rock n Roll Death Trip. I'm currently taking the character of Tyler Porter (one of the three bullies from the opening of Chronicles) and shipping him out to California where he's got the idea of visiting Joshua Tree, California and seeign where Gram Parsons' body was burned by his friend Philip Kaufman. on the way he meets another 'death hunter' named Ryan O'Malley who is also going to Joshua Tree. At some point they go to a diner and Ryan ends up getting involved with a waitress who listens to them talking about having gone out to the desert and tells them about Johnny Ramone's amazing gravestone and so Tyler, Ryan and the waitress named Chloe go to Ramone's grave where they meet this really cute punk rocker named Sheena. so the foursome take it fromt here and they end up going state to state visiting different rock n roll graves. I have plans that Tyler and Sheena will pretty much end up together and at some point Chloe and Ryan end up in bed. But first and foremost (unlike hot topic) everything in this story is about the music and music's relationship to the lives of those who live it.

of this i have roughly 11 or 12 scenes actually full written out for this and might just dive right into this after Delain book 1. The Ty, Sheena, Chloe and Ryan are fresh in my mind and are totally vivid.

So 'Down the Manhole'; Chapter One of Chronicles of Delain: book 1(for lack of a better subtitle) is finished and almost ready to be posted. I should have it online in about 45 minutes for those that are interested in checking it out. As you read please bear in mind that this is a ROUGH DRAFT and still needs to go under heavy heavy revisions before i can fully say 'complete'. There are small things i'm holding off on putting in as well as things I personally want to reword or exand on how they're described.

So as it stands the thing is 8 nearly full pages at ten font with single spaced lines. it is 2,500 words in length.

tomorrow I'm starting on chapter 2- 'The Ghost and the Mermaid'.

*this blog ain't finished yet*

Yes I've coined a new word: Noveling; verb- THe act of sitting on your ass for several hours pouring your blood sweat and tears into the keyboard or notepad as you try to conceive and make do with half assed ideas of how to write a novel. Noveling.

As you may have noticed (especially if we're Facebook friends) I'm working rather hard on devoloping a novel. Currently the work is untitled and I'm constantly re-working things in the over-all arch as I'm writing it. It's a process I like to call 'half assin' it'. yeah made no bloody sense i know. but as it happend

Ideas for future novels once this is done:
Chronicles of Delain: The Darkness of Denil- A direct sequel to the one I'm currently working on. Originally this was going to be the first novel in a series that's half developed. I worked on this a while a few months ago and felt that there was another story surrounding Emma Docherty prior to this one. Basically the girl from this book returns to the otherworld and must assist a Prince in ridding a deep seeded evil from overtaking the land.

Chronicles of Delain: The Mark of Redvine
A direct sequel tot he other two books centered on Delain- though i'm planning on it being able to be read without having to have read the other two. Emma's role is reduced to a secondary character as a younger cousin on her's, Reese McCain, takes center stage. There are references to her in the first book and she actually has a small role in the second. Reese McCain is a 17 year old girl living in the small town of Rose, Pa (my fictional one, not the one near pittsburgh). several years have passed since the dissapearance of her older cousin Emma and the case has become officially cold. She and her boyfriend Todd Campbell along with their mutual best friend Aimee Yamada are in their junior year of high school and looking at colleges. She is considering attending school for botany and working at a local arboretum after college while Todd is going into television production and Aimee wants forensics. Prior to her Junior Prom she wakes up and finds herself in Delain's capital city amid a raid.

Rock N Roll Death Trip- I've talked about this before in reference form but It's come back to me in the last few weeks thanks to Johnny Knoxville. no lies. He recently made a movie about the death of 60s country singer Gram Parsons and it's aftermath. According to reports his character stole Parsons body and drove it across southern california to Joshua Tree, California where he burned it. My idea is for two friends (briefly going to be seen in the current novel as teenagers)to be visiting Joshua Tree and then cross back across the country to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Each chapter will highlight a different rock n roll gravesite and a short story surrounding the two men and that particular rock star.

The Perfect Drug-

as i'm working this story i'm noticing Emma's natural speaking voice is somewhat older than an 8 year old that I've envisioned her so i'm thinking of making her around 10 or 12 yrs old and her brother Mike 14 or 15. Now would it be too weird for a 10 year old to still run around the house (and possibly alternate dimensions) with her Staypuff Marshmellowman doll?

Basically I took certain sections of that and worked it into a 15 page short story- mostly focusing on the relationship between the lead guy and his best friend/ drug use. the girlfriend is still involved but she takes a back seat during most of the action here. I'm also re-naming the story to be called 'The Perfect Drug'.

*sigh*

once again I'm shifting focus in my writing. In the last month I've been working hard and long hours developing my novel Damages which was supposed to be the culmination of basically everything I've thought about in terms of God, the Universe and Mankind's ultimate place int he scheme of things. I've got the whole thing planned out and the majority of the characters developed- even figured out how I'm developing God when the lead character comes in contact with It (yes I said "It"- my novel's God has no gender assignment)- not to be confused with Stephen King's It (my god is not a clown). Now I'm already to sit down crack the knuckles and write.

but I can't.

'Why?' you must be asking yourselves. 'Why, Sean? Why can you not write. You've obviously slaved over the deets long and hard and are ready to rock? What's the hold man?"

I'll tell yas why. It's a three-fold problem. On one hand it's simple matter of having too much on the plate in terms of the writing. The basic premise is about a young man whose a member of a space mercenary team. So in my mind I have stories planned surroudning them doing different battles and guarding people and running transports and other shit mercaneries do. In that regards its sort of like Star Wars- lots of space age action and excitement. I've also created tons of new fictional technologies that allow humans to interact with their surroundings and deseigned ships and ideas about how Humans elevate to the stars that different friends of mine have said they never read before.

on the flip side I've also created this whole universe with it's own past and and vastly different races- each with their own religions and belief systems. While developing these different races I've made some personal discoveries about myself and how I personally feel about God and mankind in the galaxy. First off, I don't feel that if we ever ascend into the stars our religions we currently hold to ourselves will completely survive. As Mankind (and I'm discussing strictly in my fiction) interacts with other specie of mentally developed beings we will find that there are certain core beliefs between all forms (just as there are in human culture) and that soon as we integrate much of human belief's that Humankind is the Ultimate in the universe and that we are god's Chosen People will disappear. Now my explanation for this is that, as a species, we have never found one more advanced than ourselves either mentally or technologically so we've never had any sort of reason to doubt what millions of years have told us- but once we're faced with the undeniable truth that we are NOT the ultimate race then what?

second aspect: Social commentary within the text.
So I begin to further develop the cultural-political aspects of this universe. I created a human woman who was born and raised on an alien world and, as such, calls gerself Nosirom- which is the name of the planet as well as the lead species. The lead character scoffs at her insistance that she's Nosirom- not an Earther. He says humans are from Earth, therefore she is an Earther. Her contention is she is Nosirom because she is born and raised there and has never, once in her life seen Earth- only in pictures and films. her ancestors are from there but she, herself was not. Basically I'm using this storyline to discuss what I feel are various social issues and constructs that are in Earth's Society right now.

and now comes the third aspect: Space Horror Story

H.P. Lovecraft once wrote: "The sciences, each straining in its own direction, have hitherto harmed us little; but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age."

I feel like i'm neglecting you people with my lack of stuff. Seriously it's been like, what? a month since the last time i submitted something on here? Don't worry if you've all been missin it (though i doubt my lack of attentions has ben keeping people up at night (and if it has you people seriously need to get a life (j/k (sorta))))

Right now i'm in the middle of a couple of projects. First and foremost is my novel, The Damages (temperary title), that I'm writing as part of a challenge between me and two other friends. The idea is to do 50,000 words by the end of the month. I think i'm somewhere around 2,000. I THINK.

second is the photography stuff. Honestly, this si where i feel the worse. Lately work has been, well, working me. I've been getting roughly 25+ hours a week (last week it was just over 30) and when i get out i'm too damn tired to eally do anything. I went into philly last saturday and got some stuff of the Franklin Institute but not much else.

Reading wise it's been a very strange mixed bag this summer. I started off reading this Star Trek series called 'Destiny'- it's a trilogy of novels set roughly 5 or 6 years after the film Nemesis. It was pretty cool. Then i went through the Dexter books and followed that up with The Link- a book that supposidly links humanity to Lemurs on the evolutionary scale. So i went through Space Travel, to serial murderers and speculitive science. how do i follow that up? well a teen comedy. no lies. I'm reading I love you, Beth Cooper by Larry Doyle. well i should say re-reading it since I read it two years ago in hardback. At the time (and still now) i think it's one of the funniest fucking novels i've ever held in my hands. I recently saw that they were making a film starring the cheerleader from Heroes and felt i should re-read it.

For those interested- i suggest picking up the 8 dollar supermarket copy with the Cheerleader- its actually an expanded edition of the original novel with an hilarious foreward by the author.

so that about does it here for me. such is life. peace.

so a ton of things have been going on in this little life o' mine. currently I'm sitting in my bedroom filled with boxes of crap that I'm in the middle of unpacking. Most of the stuff will most likely get thrown out for one reason or the other as it is mostly junk left from over from the apartment in Kutztown.
Speaking of Kutztown- I'm basically finished there. all i have left is the senior seminar class and the internship and then I graduate. As you saw I've taken my last shot from there (more or less). The shot( [link] ) signifies, for me, the end of that chapter of my life and having basically an open road ahead of me. course thats a bullshit way of looking at it.
I graduated from high school in 2001 somewhere in the middle of my class- probably lower- and with a 9th grade math level (I think i'm somewhere around 10th or 11th right now). I have one degree in liberal arts/sciences from community college and now this will be for professional writing. what am i going to be doing with these degrees? I have no bloody clue t o be honest. Right now i'm planning on staying at the Acme for a while while I get my thoughts in order and plan the phase of my life.
haha. next phase.

as for my photography is concerned, i'm planning on trying to utilize my home town to some degree. I realized that I haven't really done much involving Flourtown so i figure I'll do some walking more and get some really keen shit. I also am hoping to get to philly again at some point and get some of the touristy shit as well as some other places that i've been thinking about. I'm thinking about maybe heading there tommorow and checking out the Galileo exhibition at the Franklin Institute. It's soemthing i've been wanting to check out for a while now.

I sat down in the computer labs to work on some term papers for tommorow. this is what I got instead.

*************************************
“You think this is crazy and insane? Remember- you gave me the permission....’

“ME!?” the little girl yelled.

“Do you now deny it? I heard it’s what you say, yet you deny anyway.”

“Well, maybe I have. OH! OH! I don’t remember now. Damn. Just, damn.”

The creature leans into Dorothy’s face, its hot breathe fumes from its green nostrils. With a snarl it says: “So what is it girl? Yay or Nay.”

“What the hell are you?”

“What am I? I must say he same toward dear. But first, since you asked so ladylike, I shall present myself.” The creature pulls itself back and begins lowering itself from the ceiling- it’s longly, spiderlike legs balancing itself between he brick walls of the sewer. The creature’s front slams into the water- its heavy ape-like paws grab the sides of the runoff, lifting its almost human torso from the wet. It pulls its bottom half underneath itself and finally rests into a crouch position. Its snakelike neck lowers his head toward its lap and he looks at the young child. With its left hand he lifts the girl’s hand and gently kisses it.

“Dear, my name is Jackelope White-Eye; master of these halls under Rose. I am pleased to make your acquaintance.” It smiles a mouth full of overgrown yellow teeth. The girl quickly pulls her hand back and wipes it on the cloth of her dress. She begins to think of ways to escape.

“You didn’t answer my question, good sir. Not once in all that jumble of grossness have you even spoken to what you are.”

“Why I felt we went on this. I am Jackelope White-Eye. That is all, no more no less. What you see is all I be. There is no more to show, at least that I know.”

“What’s with the rhyming?”

“The rhyme? Does it bother the other? Last time I was alive it twasn’t a crime to rhyme? Has that changed?”

“Well, no- I suppose it hasn’t. But, OH! The constant of it is ever so dreadful. Dreadful in deed!”

“DREADFUL! DREADFUL!” startled, the creature raises its head so quick it bangs it on the brick ceiling. Dorothy jumps back and begins to run when the large hands of the creature grab her by the legs and pulls her back; making her face and head go into the water. It is the last she remembers.

**********
Jackelope is a villain i created years abck but never really wrote on till now.

The items I picked for her aren't the greatest in her gallery- her style and gallery is varied enough that there is simply no 'best'- but they are ones that I prefer. I urge you all to take a closer look at her work.

[link]

[link]

[link]

Bromide is one of my oldest watchers and like Rainbow I look foreword to what she has to show.
so in the name of journalism I'm almost ready to embark on the most ambitous project i've been involved to date. For the final paper in my journalism class we're supposed to be able to infiltrate a group of people- essentially becoming one of them- and then report what you experience while being one with them. For me I've been approved to join a faith healing church. I've already found the church and the website says the church says it's very anxious to meet me and to welcome me into the family. durign the course of surfing the church mentions displeasure of young men with long hair and beards. As many of you know I've maybe shaved 5 times since 10th grade. tonight makes the 6th. or 7th. not sure. but still. so as i sit here writing this I'm clean shaved- albeit bleeding- and tomorrow I have an appointment to have my hair chopped off (i've been trying to grow it out lately).

so how does one join a faith healing church? well I'm going to have to half lie. When I attend services i'll bring my oxygen- the portbale one- and explain to other worshipers of my lung conditions. Now the part I'm going to have to lie about: I'm not using my real name. I'm creating a slight false identity to get this story and I'm passing myself off as a man named Christopher Michaels; man of lost faith hoping to find God.

ok- gotta meet my brother, be back later to finish this.

yeah i dont really know what that title means. Im actuallly kind of frustrated right now, artistically i mean. I haven't really touched my novel in almost a week outsie of scribble notes. all im doing right now is class work- which is writing for journalism, poetry editing etc. last night i did a paper that's due in a half. With all that writing being done the last thing i want to do is write. So I veg out on the couch and flip through tv till something mind numbing comes about and I can turn off the head and go into a stupor. novel sitting on the hard drive and not doing anything.

the other day I got bored so i took my camera and went for a car ride- ende dup getting lost near lancaster for 3 hours and found some interesting things in a roadside attraction. One of which being the steam ship in the field. I dont know about you guys but if found that to be incredibly odd and strange. I of course pulled intot he area and shot the camera. reason why i went for that ride is becasue I am spent up, I feel i've used kutztown and flourtown to their fullest extent and I need to find something else to shoot. a new place to shoot. the same couple places is so tiring to ry to figure out new ways of doing the same thing twice.

--other news---

as you guys know im working hard to loose my fat ass and stomach. imgetting there. Yesterday I sat in a desk and found i actually fit. it was tight, but I fit. havent done that since high school. im down to about 235-240 range.

Right now i'm sitting in my living room floor, indian style and hunched over the computer screen that is sitting on my lap. I'm in blue boxer shorts and a Battlestar Galactica t-shirt. My reddish blonde hair is messed up despite me having tried to pat it down after my shower (it's getting longer and to the stage where it's impossible to deal with). In my DJ style Headphones i'm listenign to a a local rapper named Big Chef (those of you in the springfield township area know him as the 6'3" black man who worked as the fry cook in the Manhattan Bagel in flourtown).

so I'm sitting here trying to develop a mixtape to help me zero in on certain aspects of the different characters I'm working with in novel. I know to some of you that may seem rather weird but I assure you it helps with my personal process. I find music to be the ultimate creative catalyst for me when it comes to writing- it allows me to tap into the voice of the characters by imagining the style or type of music they listen to. Looking back on my notes from when i began writing I've always worked this way. In my plan sheets I had the usual shit of height, weight age color etc but then I'd always have 'music' listed underneath all that.

In the case of Farcry I've mainly been working with the album Music for the People by Vast. It's what i listened to when i first began writing the original passages (the ones i've posted here) and it's allowed me to get into Pete's mind frame of his discussing his drug addictions and guilt over his inability to save his girlfreind. It's given Pete a voice.
Then last night I began plotting out the actual death scene of Melanie (if you read my stuff then you know she's dead) and the VAST music wasn't working for what I was going for. So i went to random and the first song it played set what I needed. The song was Within Temptation's Jillian (I'd Give My Heart) and (despite it being a female singer) It felt like the words were the character Pete discussing his loss and grief.
(lyrics)
I've been dreaming for so long,
to find a meaning to understand.
The secret of life,
why am I here to try again?

Will I always, will you always
see the truth when it stares you in the face?
Will I ever, will I never free myself
by breaking these chains?

I'd give my heart, I'd give my soul.
I'd turn it back, it's my fault.
Your destiny is forlorn,
have to live till it's undone.
I'd give my heart, I'd give my soul.
I'd turn it back and then at last I'll be on my way.

Jillian our dream ended long ago.
All our stories and all our glory I held so dear.
We won't be together
for ever and ever, no more tears.
I'll always be here until the end.

Yeah when I heard the lyrics I heard Pete, him talking and discussing the events surrounding Melanie's death and his pining for her back, his guilt that his actions directly affected her life and eventual death. so with these lyrics in mind i went at re-writing the scene and the result, to me at least, is much more full of emotion than what I had prior- which felt more of a stating of events with an announcer than an actual peek into a broken man's soul.

For thsoe who've asked whether I'll stick with this or abandon it all i have to say is this: I'm definitely sticking with this novel, at this point in my life i need to finish this. I need to prove to myself i can write a coherant novel with a decent plot and writing. I've found that there's alot of old ideas and characters coming out in this one who i thought were lost or I'm reimagining in this. I feel my general writing ability is stronger and I'm able to carry things further than simply list a series of events. In other words i'm more confident. and i guess it's all you need, right?

So yesterday (or the day before) i posted some short blurbs of a novel that I'm working on. I decided that this would be the novel I actually finished writing instead of writing a few pages and then pushing it to the way side for a while. When I started the book last friday afternoon I thought i was writing about a man dealing with the aftermath of his addictions to an unnamed drug (which will be named in the novel but be a completely new thing of my creation) and his dealing with getting clean and his new girlfriend versus his loyalty to a lifelong friend that got him hooked. In my head I had set it in my fictional town of Rose that I set about 90% of my stories in and around and so I figured I may have a few settings carry over from my older work. Interestingly enough i've actually found myself not only writing Peter's story but also laying the ground work to my fictionverse.

In my last journal you read about how several characters intertwine in a singular event that has gone on to be a sort of urban legend in the town and i found myself today writing a very fluid conversation relating that incident as a legend- something i didn't plan on.

I've also felt a subtle shift from the story being an all out drama to having subtle fantasy-horror elements to it as well and not just during the sequences of the characters on drugs either.

I guess waht I'm trying to say is i've actually never been this excited about something i've written before. alot of the stuff i've had nearly done were a bunch of notes and some pages. Over time i've found overlapping ideas and people have gone in and out of these notes and stories but this is the first time i've felt this 'universe' of mine actually come to some sort of actual fruitition. It's giving me this electric feel I've (as i said earlier) have rarely felt before.

so far I have the first two and the last three chapters fully written. I've also got plans for an epilogue as well but I need to see how the middle ground pans out. so i hope to keep you guys posted.

also- I've atribute the writing kick alot to do with the band Vast and their 2nd album Music for the People. For the alst week I've been obsessively listening to this cd and it's truly helped set the mood and pace for this novel.

so i'm just kinda here. I've noticed that somethign that at one point made me interested, motivated- stuff i gave a fuck about at one point- really don't excite me any more. I'll go out, take photos, think in the moment of the shot i've gotten something awesome and then in the end i'll upload them to the computer and they'll sit in their folders and not be looked at past that initial phase.

I consider myself two things mainly: a writer and photographer. The issues I have with photography unfortunately extend to writing as well, which is my major and for years has been THE thing i've wanted to do with myself all my life (or much of it as it were). I like to think that, for the most part, i'm self taught when it comes to the writing- i learned it on my own by emulating men and women in the field that I admired when i was 13 yrs old (who were all adult writers).

So as many of you guys know I've always wanted to write fiction work0 and I do. the only problem is i've written tons and tons of notes. I've got outlines finished. I've created a great expansive universe where things happen and many of my things interconnect. I'll have characters going in and out of other stories certain settings get re-used in my work. It's my own wish to flesh out a realistic area so people who could read my works could somehow feel a sense of familiarity to my work.

case in point is the character of Nathan who is a vampire who dates back to the revolutionary war era. in his book i've got him traveling around during the expanse of the twentieth century. in one scene he is involved in a car accident in 1980. in this scene he takes pity on the driver of the other car, who is dying in his arms. he takes the woman with him and turns her into a vampire. the other woman in the car ends up dying. soon after a teenage boy, named Kenny, is goign home after work comes across the scene and tries desperately to save the woman but fails.
For nathan it's the first time he's created a vampire of someone and an event that doesn't exactly make him feel with guilt but he does reflect on it.
for Mary- the girl who is changed- it's obviously a life altering event. She'll often try to recconect with her old life but for the most part she'll reseign herself to livin on her own, somewhat away from
For Ken it steers his life in multiple directions including a lifelong feeling of guilt for not being able to help the woman in the car.
the accident itself eventually will become something of an urban legend in the town, especially with the case of Mary who is offically written in as a missing person/ cold case.

got class- i'll be back to finish.

that's the title of this article printed by CNN.com this afternoon: [link]

The article, in summary, details plans by NASA and other orginizations focus on searching for other 'Earths' in our galaxy- meaning the search for finding another planet with conditions with conditions comparable to our own. This basically means the planet has adequate water, land, temperature, and gravity that could support and thrive life in. These planets are out there. I mean, we already have concluded that the solar system we live in are created by many of the same elements; so the idea of us finding a nearly identical planet to hours makes it more plausable than not.

People ask 'Why?' to these scientists. THey want to know why to bother to go off into the sky and search for life, why should we go out there and search for other habitable planets. Why? they ask. The reasons are because we really don't know jack shit about anything, to be straight with you. We don't, we, as a species, are truly in the dark on many many things. We sit here on our planet and send out robots and pull stuff and brign them home and tests them- but WE haven't gone farther out. We won't know for real whats out there until we go there and too many of us are confortable sitting on our asses and content with the information we have- never asking why or anything of interest. Their 'intelligent' argument of nothing being out there is some of the most ignorant abuses of thought I've ever heard/read. They're as heavy as a holy bag of water.

To put it another way: Remember when you're a kid in school and the teacher's would teach you about Christopher Columbus and his discovery of America? Remember in those stories the big recurring theme in theme was the parliment constantly telling him to screw off about his 'new route to india' becasue the world was flat and he'd fall right off the map into oblivion? What happened? Chris went off on his three little ships and found America and DIDN'T FALL! He actually sailed around the fucking planet and got to America.

The people who don't want us, or see no point in us, searching the galaxy are no different than the people who told columbus he would fall off the planet. We're they wrong? In a sense no, they weren't. They were working off what was the commonly held belief at that time; this could be said for the same today. They didn't want to travel to find alternate routes becasue they had no need for them the same as of right now we have no need for a second planet to colonize- so like them we put the notions of us living on Colony: LV-426 as fantasy and move on with life. But while we may not need the space now, we will very soon. It's a known fact that our species is growing faster than our planet can sustain ourselves. Faster than it can replenish it's supplies. When we run out of space and supplies what are we to do then? Hm?

Now, I'm not saying once we find these planets and we'll be sipping daquries with Lt. Worf on the Death Star being waited on by Tralfamadorians (though they'd probably make us an exhibit in their interstellar Zoo). There is the possibility that there is life as evolved as ours out there. I'm fairly certain there HAS to be in the simple regards that I simply refuse to believe that in the Universe as it is we have become the only single solitary planet that was built to hold life.

I find the notion of Humanity being the only super intelligently desiegned species in the universe to be totally bunk. Truth of the matter is most of the shit we believe, think and feel about the universe and mankinds place in it is completely a fabrication of our own self fulfillment to be much better and prove that we can. A type of Manifest destiny if you will.

and i'm going to stop there because if i go on I'll start discussing God's place. but I will elave you with a quote from Stephen Hawking:

"One does not have to appeal to God to set the initial conditions for the creation of the universe, but if one does He would have to act through the laws of physics."

as controversial as this may be among many of my friends (both here and i real life) I really hate that ledger won the award for best supporting last night. One one hand it's simple- I felt Philip Hoffman did a better job playing an embattled priest than Ledger's Joker. On the other hand I also feel that the award should be given to someone whose alive. The only time I think it should go to someone whose dead is if they died after the nominations are sent out- not when they die a year previously (remember he was honored in last year's memorium segment).

another sticking point for me was Sean Penn's Milk. I honestly don't see what people think of him in that particular role. I saw milk a month ago and was wholly unimpressed by much of the film. He did a decent job but all the crap surrounding the film 'moving people' and 'bringing them to tears'- WTF? it was just another biopic about a politician. Gay or not, liberal or conservative, doesn't matter. It followed the same formula as any other biopic does and Penn just kinda seemed like he was half-assing it compared to other films i've seen in the past with him. I wanted Mickey Rourke. His 'Randy Ram' hit me closer than Harvey Milk. I don't know why- maybe it's becasue i grew up watching Professional wrestling, maybe becasue it takes place between Philadelphia and North jersey and the story of 'a broken down piece of meat' was one I could get into.

Winslet I'm happy she won, though I much would have prefered Anne Hathaway but I'm happy for her. In truth i saw Reader. I hated the Reader. it was just a randomly weird movie that I felt no connection towards.

For supporting actress I can't say much becasue I haven't seen Vicky Christina barcelona (which won). I did, however, see the other movies and can say that I was rooting for Amy Adams or Marisa Tomei. Adams was the cutest naive Nun whose ever graced the screen while Tomei was the cutest single mother-40 year old stripper whose ever graced the silver screen.

Boyle! Finally the mother fucker gets his recognition for the talent that all we Zombie lovers and drug addicts knew him for. my other choice would have been Fincher for Ben Button.

Hvaing (for the first time ever in life) seen all the best pictures BEFORE the awards I do feel the best film won. Slumdog is old school hollywood. it made me laugh, cry, relate to the characters. I fell in love with the girl and rooted for the boy. I walked out of the film feeling pretty good about myself and the world. It was basically the Anti-Dark Knight.

I'm about an hour or so into writing an article for my journalism class. Basically the parameters for the assignment are this:

Reporter is a first-person observer of the event he or she describes. In this story the writer not only reports event but interprets them for the reader in terms of meanings and feelings. The story is less of a narratvie than a report on an encounter with an individual, group, institution or place.

So i'm going to be discussing the midnight premiere of Dark Knight. The crazy shit that happened there just *"SCREAMS"* write this! As mcuh as I find the 'cosplayers' there amusing i was also bewildered by the amount of adults (and i dont mean 18-25) who were dressed up in costume. I found the whole thing rather ridiculous honestly.

I'm also planning on going back to the 'cosplay' for the last assignment also. In that one we have to basically join a group and become accepted as one of them. Gain as much information as you can before writing the article and write from an 'insider's' POV. I know of a couple friends who do a bunch of Cosplay stuff and I'm trying to talk them into help me deseign somethign and let me 'infiltrate' their ranks. I'm thinking Bruce Wayne and then half way through run into a bathroom and become 'Batman'.

As a child my two favorite horror 'icons' were the 'Alien's' and Friday the 13th's Jason Vorhees. Michael just never interested me (only saw the remake because it was Rob Zombie)and Freedy's dark humor was just a little bit out of my reach as a boy. Jason won out pure and simple because he didn't fuck around, he knew what he had to do and he did it with a certain style. Some have argued he's just nothing than a puppet or a retard in a hockey mask- but to pull off the shit he does he has to be an intelligent creature of habit (and by habit I mean murder lust). As a child when I saw Jason come onto my TV screen (late at night when my parent's went to bed) I'd get an excitement around it, i knew i'd be scared and i knew I would see something amazing. After all, Vorhees and Krueger were for my generation what Dracula and Frankenstein were for my parent's generation.

for years the visage of Jason vorhees and his hockey mask has been pretty much reduced to a halloween adventure staple, a silly little story about a boy and his issues with mommy. A certain camp factor entered into it somewhere around the 4th film when they established the fucker couldn't be killed. It became less of Jason and his revenge than it was watching the hapless victims hunt him down and try to kill him- like Ahab and his whale. The worst of this series is the one that seriously had the ebst potential. I'm talking of course of Jason Takes Manhattan (the best canditate to take it on since the Muppets). I mean who wants to see him kill cops, G-men and virgins in the woods when he could take on an entire fucking city.

So pretty much anything after F-13 p.3 the friday films have more or less sucked- the worst of them all was 'final friday' (though this film is significant for me since it drew me to my first ever fan-fic: Jason Vs. Freddy that I wrote as a tenth grader in high school). The only two exceptions being New Begining (the one with Cory Feldman) and the one with the Psychic.

-got class, but i will continue this alter

3 hours later I'm still hyper from the amazing piece of American filmmaking that is the Friday The 13th reboot. Dead serious, great fucking movie! I want to actually write something that resembles a coherant review about this movie but all that's running through my mind is the intense action and brutality that I witnessed this evening.

After 11 "Friday" movies (including JVF) I've finally been scared by the presence of Vorhees. The film takes his presence very seriously and quickly gets rid of any kind of camp that has surrounded him. His kills aren't just quick stab and grabs like most of the films. But nothing in his older films would compare to one scene in the opening where a boy, having just found his best friend's ear in the grass, hears another of his freinds screaming. He runs back to help and gets caught in a bear claw jsut feet from a tied sleeping bag hung from a tree over a campfire- inside the boy's friend squirms and screams as the bag catches light. I've seen roughly all the films in the big horror franchises (exception being 'Hostel'- even i can't bring myself to watch those films) and for some reason the feelings of dread and genuine fright I got from both the boy in the bear claw and the girl in the sleeping bag were unlike what I felt in any other film i've ever seen.

in short- I loved this film for precisely that reason.
