In case you've been living under a rock, Disney has bought Marvel Comics.

Now I've got mixed feelings about this. The economics guy in me says this is awesome, Disney brings a wealth of money into marketing, and propping up Marvel and it's wealth of 5000+ characters. And if the Disney/Pixar relationship is what they are basing this acquisition on is to be believed, then Marvel is in great hands. I mean Disney Channel already airs 20% marvel properties like Wolverine and the X-Men and Sensational Spider-Man. If anything this is going to make Warner Bros. actually give a shit about their DC Comics properties and make some good movies for a change..yeah I said it, Dark Knight was shit and don't get me started on Superman..one can only hope that Green Lantern is going to be ok, I mean, how can't it with Ryan Reynolds.

The comics geek in me is going HOOOOOOOOOOSHIIIIIIIIIIT!

This is only going to end badly. Disney has a history of ruining every property they get their hands on, uhm the Rocketeer anyone? Yes, the likelihood of Goofy meets the Punisher is slim, but then again, the Punisher did go up against Archie once..I'm waiting for Howard the Duck VS Donald Duck personally

Disney has said that all existing contracts will be honoured, meaning that Spider-Man 4,5,6 will still be released by Sony, all X-Men stuff is still with FOX and the upcoming Iron Man, Thor, Avengers properties will still be distributed by Paramount via Marvel Films...but what about after that. Disney has already stated that the ultimate goal is to bring things home..so it's only a matter of Time before Tim Allen and the Rock make their way into the 616 universe.

The gang at Marvel say that it's all status quo as far as the books themselves go, but really, is Disney going to allow Bendis to have characters raped? Or let Warren Ellis have free reign? I dunno. For the next year or so, probably, but I can't help but see a tightening of the noose so to speak.

At least MIchael Eisner isn't in charge anymore otherwise this would spell doom on a Galacticus scale.

I do find it strange that there was ZERO mention of anything this past weekend at Toronto Fan Expo, (Comic-Con in Toronto for you yanks). I mean with something this big, you think that some word would have leaked a bit....

Speaking of Fan Expo, I have to say, I was really impressed. WITH THE FUCKING CROWD. I waited 2 hrs to get in on Sat. and only then I got in because I had a friend working there sneak me in! INSANE I TELLS YA!!! But that's good, it means people are interested! I just wish I grabbed a pic of me and Dan Didio, the head of DC after he snapped a pic of my Bizzarro tattoo. I managed to get out of there with spending a record low..$65 in total!!!! I picked up a Black Lantern T Shirt and The DC Comics Encyclopedia. BOOYAA!

This is one hundred percent free publicity folks, linked DIRECTLY to your art, not the image src. So really all these people leaving dA or putting their stuff in storage over something that will only help to further YOUR exposure as an artist, you're only hurting yourself. that said there were two comments in particular that I read in all this that stuck out, mainly as complete bullshit.

"First off, nobody who sees a picture on Facebook/Twitter, etc. is likely to follow up by commissioning art or buying a print"

Bull. Fucking. Shit.

that may be the case for the person that made the comment, but don't generalize. Every single job I've received in the last year and a half, has been as a direct result of someone seeing my work on Facebook and Twitter. Every. Single. One.

I've done absolutely ZERO marketing of myself and the Pin Up Parlour. None. It's all been viral from FB and Twitter., It's because of FB that I received 3 newspaper articles promoting my workshops. If you're not getting attention/sales/work from them, well you're not doing it right. Or you're simply not as good as you think you are.

Again incorrect. Facebooks terms of service explicitly state that anything posted on their site remains the property of the copyright holder, and you're simply granting FB the right to distribute it, which kind of helps otherwise well, it wouldn't appear anywhere across their site, none of your friends would receive it, wouldn't show up in various feeds etc. You are simply sharing a link to your art, here on dA. The same as copying the link from the address bar. plain and simple. You're not posting the art itself, you're linking to it, the same as one would link to a news article etc.

So really, this is a great thing..really anyone can "steal" your work at anytime, but by providing a true link to your page, this helps diminish the chances...

Me? I'm enjoying my final week of holidays for the summer, getting caught up a BUTTLOAD of editing, hence the daily submissions, not that you're complaining about getting to see my most awesome artwork, and if you are complaining then why the fuck are you watching me?

Life without the ^ is going well, mind you, I logged in not too long ago and tried to move images heh...^cosfrog is taking great care of the pin up gallery in my absence..BUUUT I notice no DD's yet

...scratch that I just noticed that an image I recommended to him was chosen today lol.

Amanda and I had our joint bday party back on the 8th, was great to see $Moonbeam13, *gimp and =mombeam out as well as a surprise visit by `neo-the-foxycoon as well as my buddy Phil that runs the studio I shoot out of. Got a cool Bettie Page business card holder! A few weeks back I got myself an early birthday present, fresh ink! Chest piece at that!

It was nowhere near the pain I thought it was going to be, not a cake walk, but some of the stuff on my arm was more painful than they were.

My actual birthday is tomorrow, turning 36..jeebus...well at least I'm not as old as $Tachy-on ha!

I really don't know where to begin to be honest. Yesterday was one of the coolest days ever. It also felt like the longest day ever since I'd been up since 6am. I can honestly say that in the last while I'd been feeling a little lost in what role I would play on deviantART. All that's changed. I feel completely re-invigorated and am seriously looking forward to the future of deviantART. IT'S GOING TO BE EPIC!!!!!

I was late arriving for the meet as I was at work and sadly missed the group photo

and missed some kids trying to soak everyone with the massive sprinklers at the park. When I did get there everyone was already broken up into groups, Photographers, Lit, Digital & Traditional art. I meandered over to the photographers gathering, (which I didn't know was a photographers gathering, I just saw Amanda there and went lol), and met up with Amanda, `neo-the-foxycoon, (who nearly killed me with his cookies

), =MintyFreak *basseca, `neom, `picard102 and HOLY SHIT *kilgore-trout who flew in from Calgary for the meet! $Moonbeam13 was basically having a chit chat with everyone on what their likes/dislikes are with dA. I turn around and there's $spyed walking over with a huge shit eating grin on his face asking "who wants to see some cool shit?" and off we went...

Like I said, I've been feeling kind of lost as of late on dA, but seeing what I saw yesterday and hearing Angelo talk about what's to come really ignited that spark again. I've been lucky enough to have seen groups already through HQ, but hell, that's just the beginning. The new portfolio system will fucking OWN! And the new search engine is unbelievable.

Now hearing Angelo talk about all this is an event unto itself. Seriously, the man IS deviantART. He lives, eats, breathes deviantART. Hell if you stabbed him, he'd probably bleed dA green. The passion this dude has for the site and the community is unbelievable. I am glad to have met him because really, if not for dA I sure as hell wouldn't be the photographer I am now.

After listening to Ang talk about what's coming up for dA, we meandered up the goddamn steepest hill I've ever been forced to climb in search of food. Sitting at dinner with $spyed , `sodalicious, `neom, `picard102, *kilgore-trout, $Moonbeam13, *MummysLittleMonster and ~SHAN-01 we listened to Angelo talk some more about what he'd like to see happen with deviantART, the growth we have and the potential it has for the future and then we signed the biggest underwear I've ever seen. feel like I've been around the world..

...and all I have to show for it is this crummy migraine. Last week was friggin hectic..the weekend was the opportunity to chillax, but not to be, after almost a full day of editing on Friday, `sodalicious and I packed up and were off to $Moonbeam13's and *gimp's house for the night in preparation for her wedding on Saturday. We drank, danielle painted her nails crooked and we watched "the Rockstar" which I have to say I quite enjoyed despite all the horrible things I heard about the movie.

Saturday Morning we woke up bright and early at the asscrack of dawn, well at least I did because the sun was breaking and entering into our room

, when the rest of the scooby gang finally got up we took off in search of a tie for me and vampires for Rob and Danielle, (they were giving blood that morning).

Grab some lunch, Larissa for make up and the count down was on. The ceremony was short and sweet, in one of the most gorgeous greenhouses I've seen. I'll be posting some of the pics from the wedding as time goes on and from what Danielle is ok with sharing

I have to say it was an honour to be part of that day for them

the night was spent with copious amounts of drinking and laughter at the Cadillac Lounge, =mombeam is going to find some great pics of Amanda and I hogging her camera

Sunday morning came, really really reallly fucking fast. But still, Amanda and I managed to get our asses out of bed and take maedbh to the zoo. It was a gorgeous day, Amanda and I got an awesome case of sunstroke, which was sooooo worth it cause we got to walk with Kangaroos, AND pet stingrays!!!!!!!!

which produced the best quote of the day later when we met up with Holly Von Drat and Dano Von Drat for some drinks and dinner

Me: "So we actually got to pet stingrays!!"

Amanda: "yeah they are in this giant tank and you go in and can pet them!! There were sharks too, but they were asleep"

So in all the hullaballoo that life has become lately I completely missed my 5yr anniversary here on dA

5 yrs, wow, I've not done much that's lasted 5 years hahaha. But seriously I friggin love dA, I wouldn't have a good number of the friends I have today, nor grown as much as a photographer if not for deviantart so I do have to give some shout outs here for this lil milestone

lolly and $realitysquared for first bringing me on to the volunteers team way back in 06 to join the CEA team. having the faith in me that I would make a great addition to the team meant a great deal, and thank you.

$Moonbeam13 family. One of the first people that I had retarded massive msn convo's with from dA, after sending about 100 notes back and forth lol..only to find out we lived about 4 blocks from one another. We've been through alot here on dA together and I'm so proud of the things she's doing now, second to only Angelo in how much she cares for this site, wish all the hates could see that, but then again, they wouldn't be haters now would they?

`sodalicious I always used to laugh at people who said they met online, I mean really? that all changed the day I finally got off my ass and attended one of her devmeets, I mean I'd only missed 3 of them lol. Always a confidant when we first started talking back when I first joined the site, she actually taught me how to use the : dev : and : icon : codes when I was a noob lol. I always new she was cool, but then I found out she was HAWT. As my friend wolfman would say ARROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! So above all else dA has given me, inspiration, friendships etc, it's given me her love

really sorry about the lack of journals here kids, but still no internet at home. THAT should be fixed this Saturday however, should have been last night, but in tyical ISP fashion, the tech showed up an hour before he should have, WHILE I WAS STILL AT WORK!!!!!!!! Sooo what's new with you cats? The Pin UP Parlour is going fucking phenominally well. SO well that our Sept session will be hitting the road to Montreal!!!

This last session was awesome, =mombeam was our first shoot of the day and she looked fabulous! But then I threw a little curveball, since $Moonbeam13 was there and well, we had some extra time, I forced her to get changed and shot her as well

can't submitt them to dA as of yet because work has now deemed the gallrey/submission parts of dA as "too devious"

She was awesome!!!!

I also shot a few frames for my tattoo book with two new models:

on Monday I go to meet with the editors of The Dinner Jacket a new Magazine based out of Ottawa that mixes arts, culture and fashion, we'll be talking about a staff/contributor post with the mag so *fingers crossed*

well that's the sound our router made on a week ago monday. Hence the massive inactivity from me here and the pin up gallery looks like hell. Still waiting for a new modem/router to arive and get back online at home. It's been sort of nice to not have it, Amanda and I have got to spend more time just laying in bed watching movies/tv than worrying about wtf is going on the internetz lol. Can't wait to see the finished product though! taking in Mad Sin tomorrow night, going to be a fucking BLAST, but retard that I am I booked a shoot for Saturday so the PAAAAAAAARTAAAAAAAAY is going to be limited to a PARTY!

Well, minus the cheese that is..I have crossed the line ladies and gents. I am now the owner of a brand spanking new (used, but only for email) Mac G5 *insert as many gleeful emotes as possible here*

A friend of mine was getting rid of it as her boyfriend is in IT and they have 5 comps of varying OS's and makes in the house. her "baby just wasn't being used as she should be" So I took it off her hands for a pretty sweet price. And not a moment too soon, my pc was on it's dying legs, I mean it would take about 10 mins to start up, close to 30 mins just to adjust levels in a photo

I'm starting to get the hang of OS X, baby steps mind you. The BIGGEST pain in my ass though is transfering my files over. Never realized how much crap I had on my pc. My portfolio is already transfered, working on my music now..which is A LOT and that's about it..need to somehow figure out how to reload Paint Shop Pro X2 (no I don't use photoshop, can't really stand it) onto the mac as I lost my registration codes/serial number

The Pin Up Parlour that I run was a HUGE success. So much so that the Gladstone Hotel where we shoot has welcomed us back right through to August. We're changing it up month to month, shooting in a different room to create a different mood and setting, and who knows, maybe we'll take this show on the road soon. Summer Lovin'

This summer is going to be jam packed, don't think I've been this

about stuff in a loooooooong time. Along with the Pin Up Parlours, I'm shooting the lovely Sarah Sin of the Creepshow next weekend for a spot in my tattoo book, a group of 4 friends who want to celebrate their friendship with pin up photos later in the month, Maedbh's birthday along with the pin up parlour and pin up class and possible trip to Montreal/Ottawa in May, shooting Moonbeam13's wedding in June. Hotrod Hootenany in July, which is going to be a fucking BLAST with the Von Drats, Matadors, Rumble Demons, the Brains and more...my plan is to not remember the day!!!!! man and that's just the stuff we know about lol

anyways, after getting there a little late, and finding out that those fat fuckers from the Von Drats stole our booth, Amanda and I met up with `picard102, his gf, and `dottiemaggie..let the inebriations commence...5 hrs later we parted ways, well they did, Amanda and I stayed behind and drank some more with the Von Drats and co..there's no way I could detail everything that was talked and laughed about so I shall give you point form:

There was a thread started in the Volunteer forum, where we introduced ourselves to one another. With a team as big as ours is, getting to know your fellow volunteers can be hard and the same can be said for deviants in general. I'm here for you, so it would seem to reason that maybe you should know a bit about me, and me you:

I've been on deviantART for almost 5yrs, 4 of which have been spent as a volunteer.

I discovered dA by accident after I stumbled upon an image by `suzi9mm and no, not the one you think, lol..funny that Jenni would then become a close friend and drinking buddy whenever she visits Toronto.

One day I met this really crazy broad that was commenting on my pics, we started msn'ing and chatting on dAmn..we then discovered we were related!!! lol, well no not really, but we did find out we lived like a 10 min walk away from one another..and this is how I met $Moonbeam13 and I love her like the sister I wish I ~~never~~ had. looooove you sis

It's around the same time that I would meet my future wife `sodalicious, but it took us almost 2 years to actually meet in person at a devmeet that she organized. We've been pretty much inseperable ever since and I look forward to little ghoulicious children

So you see, dA has given me a lot, it was only fair that I should give back...

In the beginning.... I along with `garrit created the original Unknown Artists Project as well as the Behind the Lens features in #Photographers, I was later asked to join the newly restructured CEA team and that started my journey as a volunteer on dA. After a short stint as mn@ I settled into my role as a GM, first with Photojournalism, then Pin Up/Glamour/Commercial, settling with just Pin Up, which will have to be ripped from my cold undead hands.

The Real World

I actually discovered photography quite by accident. I was a music journalist initially with a background in political science, I know fucked up....my then gf was my photog covering any event I was assigned to, we split literally a few hrs before a Nine Inch Nails concert, so rather than take the easy route and get a new photographer, I go out to a pawn shop and by a camera..the rest as they say is history...

I started my own photography studio, Arsenic Addiction through which I run Pin Up workshops here in Toronto in between the day job (a sucky marketing gig with the phone company, and I do mean THE phone company, the original Bell) and trying to manage ~Ghoulie-girlie as she heads into her teen years.

So that about sums me up, now..who the fuck are you?

Awhile back I had won a Gift Certificate for $50 off some ink from the Gore Gore Girls fundraiser event I shot... Normally I wouldn't think of going to see anyone but my normal artist Amanda, but seeing as they work in the same shop, I figured what the hell...but with a catch...I gave the gc to Sodalicious to get the diamond tattoo she's been wanting to get, but I'm not one that can walk into a shop and not get ink soooooo

Joey over at Way Cool did a fantastic job on them...together they only cost us $20....and that was for her tip haha! Gotta love the perks. I'm going to be shooting all the girls from Way Cool, for their new business cards and in return I get free ink..this was just a taste, wait till you see the two sugar skulls that Amanda (the tattooist) is going to drill into me, and thankfully it was her day off so I didn't have to have any guilt laid into us for not seeing her hahaha.

First off, I have to say thank you. Thanks to everyone that left incredible comments on my last series. I'd never shot nudes before, mind you pin up isn't that far off, especially my xmas series lol, but bright lights and clothing to give a distinctly different feel that the pure human form. I will admit I was leery about posting them, simply because I didn't want the 15yr old teenage boy comments of "BOOBIES" or "come give me a peepshow baby" but each and every comment has been awesome

Now just because the nudes are win, doesn't mean I'm moving over from pin up, just expect a bit more skin from time to time, the Pin Up Parlour has fully sold out, I was just interviewed by McClungs Magazine, which is a Canadian feminist magazine. Have to tell you when I first heard that a feminist magazine wanted to interview me for my pin up work I was really taken aback, but the interview went well I think and the issue comes out in April. Tuesday I sit down with Alternavox for another interview. We've already have 3 spots booked for our April P.U.P and I haven't even booked a date yet lol...on a sad note though, I go back to work in the office on Monday after 3 mos being home

VH1 announced today that producers are now filming a new season of Rock of Love featuring metal/punk/horror-core legend, Glenn Danzig. The new show, which will premeire this July, is called "Rock of Love: Bride of Satan with Glenn Danzig." Danzig is well-known in metal and punk circles as one of the founding members of 1980s horror-core punk rockers Samhain. He went on to the form hard-rock band Danzig, which scored several top 40 hits in the late '80s including "Mother" and "She Rides." Both a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Danzig is also well-known for his interest in the occult and all things evil."

New School vs Old School

So a few weeks back I posed a question to the community.

"should Pin Up be split into 'new school' and 'traditional'?"

If we were to take just the poll results without looking at the comments, it was a resounding yes

48 no votes
19 deviants didn't quite understand
and 12 deviants had no clue we have a pin up gallery....(really? wtf do you think I do here?)

However, by the comments you left, no one wants it....so what gives?

My personal feeling is no. Plain and simple. Pin Up, in my opinion and that of quite a few others, is all about the charm, the tease the art of seduction. A coy smile, and a little bit of naughty skin. It is NOT about sticking your pierced cooch in my face. It is not about lying on your bed wearing Wal Mart lingerie and a leather choker..."but I have elements of traditional poses"..so what? Blondie rapped in a song back in the day, does that put her on par with Run DMC? uhm no. Simply because you have elements of a style in your work, does not mean that you are actually creating that style. Taking a picture in Yosemite National Park does not make you Ansel Adams!

Style and substance is what makes pin up photography.

BUT
..it's not my gallery. It's yours. It belongs to you. So what I need from you fine folks that voted "yes" are reasons. Those in agreement that it should stay the way it is have voiced their opinions, and I mine. Now it's your turn....

**Clarification**

I should clarify something here, when I'm talking about new school, I'm talking about images that have removed the vintage aspects of the pin up. I'm not referring to if the model has tattoo's or piercings, that would be as ridiculous as splitting the gallery into "white girl", "black girl" etc etc. I'd have to relocate half my own work if that was the case and I'm too lazy lol.

No, by "new school" I'm talking about images that no longer have the 30's 40's 50's and 60's feel to them either because of the clothing (or lack thereof), hair style or setting.

A year ago I stepped down from Photojournalism to devote more time to the Pin Up galleries and somehow was convinced by our illustrious leader $Moonbeam13 to take on TWO more galleries, Glamour and Commercial. Unfortunately, real life is creeping up and I'm becoming increasingly busy so much so that I can't really concentrate on moderating 3 galleries. And so effective, well last week heh, I am putting all my efforts back into Pin Up alone. 2009 is going to be a great year for pin up on dA with some freaking awesome contests, live chats and more....

Help decide the future of Pin Up

Speaking of changes etc? I'd like to put it to the community once more, so please take a moment and go answer my poll, "Should Pin Up be split into "Traditional" and "New School"

where Traditional would maintain the current Pin Up definition

Retro styled pin-up photography in the 1940's/50's stylized fashions, with emphasis on the hair, makeup and period clothing and "New School" would house looser interpretations of what Pin Up is, IE Suicide Girl type images and so on...It's YOUR gallery, YOU decide!

Due to the fact that things are so damn hectic, I've decided to pull back on my moderator duties and have resigned from Glamour and Commercial Photography. I'm still taking care of Pin Up. They'll have to pry it from my cold dead hands....

So how do you kids like the new user pages? I love the ability to put the sitback feature right on my front page as I constantly get tired of my featured deviation lol.

Looks like I'm going to be featured in a local arts & news paper here in Toronto. Eye Weekly is going to be doing a feature on my Pin Up classes. If all goes well it'll be in their Feb 5th Love and Sex issue..just in time for Valentines Day hahaha

10 Commandments of the Pin Up Gallery

=TThealer came up with some great "Commandments" for the Fractal Gallery, I've nicked them and made them fit to Pin Up

1. Thou shalt not badmouth the GM's. They worketh for free, and keep the gallery clean.

2. Thou shalt not badmouth receiver's of DD's. Nor compare them to other works.

3. Thou shalt not parade around in underwear and call it Pin Up. Pin Up is much more than that

4. Thou shalt make an effort to learn the history of Pin Up.

5. Thou shalt not flood thy fellow deviants message centre with upwards of 15 deviations at one time.

6. Thou shalt not steal anothers photograph and call it thy own.

7. Thou shalt not covet modify your image insomuch that it no longer resembles a photograph.

8. Thou shalt not take a Pin Up photograph of yourself in front of the bathroom mirror.

9. Thou shalt not photograph thy cooch with your legs spread. I'm sure it's a nice cooch, but it does not belong in Pin Up. Pin Up is about seductiveness.

10. Thou shalt not critique any images on DA in a fashion in which you are making inflammatory comments, regarding the artist, and your critiques should be limited to technical aspects of the composition improvement, and not personal likes or dislikes based on weight, colour or sexuality.

Hi. How you doooooooooin? (said like Joey from friends in case you were wondering) How was your *insert secular holiday here* ?
Ours was filled with food. Lots of it. The 24th was spent with my folks, having the traditional WOP (*Italian) meal of fish, fish and more fish. Xmas morning we opened our gifts, Amanda and I kept things small between us cause we're saving up for a place...Maedbh on the other hand we went all out for ...again...picked her up a stand for her guitar, new amp, a camera of her own..just a cute little Samsung point and shoot, mind you it's an 8mp point and shoot..for a 10 yr old...we then headed to Amanda's parents place in Grimsby while Maedbh went with her mum to her other grandma's place. Hugemungous turkey dinner ensued followed by more gift opening. Amanda scored us a wii from her parents and I got a sweet digital picture frame as well as a new lens for my camera (just haven't picked the lens I want yet, it's a toss up between [link])_SDM/ or [link] both are great portrait lenses. We spent 4 days relaxing up at her parents place, it was good to get away, but I missed the city and it's better there in the summer when the pool is open heh.

Year in Review

2008 was an odd year. Probably went by the fastest of any year I can remember to be honest. The year started with Amanda moving in

We actually managed to go away together, somewhat, to Niagara Falls for Maedbh's birthday
In the spring I promoted my first rockabilly show, a lil' benefit shindig for the Bell Walk for Kids Help Phone, and I got the promoters bug, we've since put on 3 more shows and a bunch more to come in 09 including a huge Sailor Jerry sponsored event, lets see, got more ink..watched the BEST comic book movie ever released...and no it was not Dark Knight, but Iron Man. Truth be told, 08 was a rather boring year actually, it passed so quickly I have no actual recollection of what truly transpired, aside from a shitload of fun and an even larger shitload of work. So you know what? 2008 can have a huge

Amanda and I will be finally going on a true vacation of our own when we head off to Cuba, we've got shoots coming out the wazzoo in the beginning of 09 so hopfully that continues, and there will be a wedding in there somewhere...

So we knew it was calling for snow..then all of a sudden the sky opens up and is unleashing snowmageddon* (stolen from $Moonbeam13 ) They are calling for up to a foot today with another storm coming in for Sunday...now I know what you people in the mid west and prairies are thinking, but seriously, I fucking hate snow. nice to look at..end there. I used to love snow growing up, snow always reminded me of hockey season, but when both Tampa Bay and the Mighty Ducks can win the Stanley Cup, who the fuck needs winter anymore.....with all this snow and such it really does get me into the holiday spirit...that is until I have to go out in it to shop this afternoon...but I digress..so I decided to put together a playlist of my fave Christmas tunes....

Run Rudolph Run by Brian Setzer. BEST. XMAS. SONG. EVER. Setzer takes the Chuck Berry classic and makes it his own, close runner up to this is a tie between Rev. Horton Heats version go here and it's on my player) and the new one by Lemmy, Billy Gibbons and Dave Grohl, which can be heard here

Holy shit. that's all I can say about the trailer for X-Men Origins: Wolverine. From the kick ass action, the eater egg cameo's of X-Men galore and from the brief scenes it looks like they are sticking pretty close to the comic book origin detailed by Joe Queseda a few years back. In all honesty I hope Wolverine kicks the Watchmen's ass.

Amanda and I finally got off our butts and mailed our X-Mas cards out today..the postage cost more than the goddamn cards

I'm starting to book 2009 shoots already..( I still can't believe it's almost 09, where the fuck did 08 go?) Because of my 9-5 job, I generally shoot weekends only, and almost 3 of the 4 weekends in Jan are already booked, tentatively. Somewhere in there I'll be squeezing in promo shots for The Von Drats, The Goddamn Goddamns, The Blue Demons, Tennessee Voodoo Coupe and Blue Mercury Coupe. I would really like to squeeze in maybe one more shoot for this year, possibly a New Years theme, but we'll see. Dunno. seeing as Sat is *MissBreton's X-mas party and we'll probably spend all of Saturday recovering from it lol.

Speaking of xmas...I commissioned ~paulorocker for a few pieces. I didn't want to give my friends my prints, that's kind of cheap really. BUT I know there's few images that they really like of themselves so I had Paulo work his fucking magick on them

Bettie Page, Pin Up Queen, has passed away at the age of 85. After suffering from a massive heart attack 9 days ago, Page remained in a coma and succumbed finally last night at 6:41 pm PST

Page rose to fame in 1949 when she agreed to model for a police officer she had met, who happened to be a photographer. It was that photographer, Jerry Tibbs, that convinced her to cut her bangs into what would become one of the most recognizable hairstyles of our time. Through out her career her images became more risque and her popularity soared. She was one of the first Playboy Playmates and is responsible for the phrase "hips, lips and tits". She is the only model to have become more famous after quitting the business! After years of seclusion and mental illness, Page started returning to the limelight and began influencing a new generation of model.

During an interview, Page reflected that she wished to be remembered as she was when she was young "...I want to be remembered as the woman who changed people's perspectives concerning nudity in its natural form." I really don't think there will be a problem with that.

I came to a conclusion this morning, one that wasn't really easy but I felt the need for it. After having worked in the studio for quite some time these last few months, and a complete lack of inspiration I've decided to stop shooting live shows. The last few times I've been out to shoot, I really just wasn't feeling it anymore..like at all. And it showed in the images which is why there's been nary a post, aside from the Brains and the Goddamn Goddamns. There's only two show's coming up that I will shoot, Tennessee Voodoo Coupe and Big John Bates, but after that I'm going back to enjoying myself and shows. I've moved on from that era and grown as a photographer really. 15 years as primarily a concert photojournalist, I'm tired of it. So after the 13th of December, don't expect to see many, if ANY at all, concert shots. I'm still going to have my "appendage" as my friends like to call clyde, (yes my camera is named Clyde, Amanda's is Bonnie

), in order to capture the zany-ness that occurs with our crowd here in town. Does this mean I'll turn down shows? Yes, because as conceited and selfish as I am, money doesn't buy inspiration.

Money can however buy you this fucking awesomesauce filled Artbag

But I digress...so what to expect from me then? hooligals with tattoos prancing around in underwear and the like...hell if it works for =cosfrog it'll work for me

more hotrods, more concepts and I'm going to give still life a few shots..I also figure by getting away from concerts etc I can focus on finally getting our motherfucking book done....
sit back kids, it's gonna be one wild and crazy ride....filled with high octane, balls out rockabilly, tattoo injections, shitkicking fun...question is, can you handle it?

Ok so it's been quite a while since I've done a proper journal, that's not ranting or whoring something out..been kind of crazy with work and really just destressing immediately after work ne: drinking my face off with friends.

The calendars are coming along great, both the Pin Ups for farm Animals and my own personal pin up one. I've got 3 remaining shoots for my own. December, February and July. All to be shot on the 29th..going to be a busy day..wait till you kids see the december shoot..I wouldn't mind waking up to that Christmas morning..there's also a suprise guest involved that will leave you howling!

My good friend Virginia D'Vine and I have started up Pin Up Workshops here in Toronto, (yeah like I need MORE stuff to work on right?) we figure, what nice girlfriend/wife wouldn't want to give her lover an amazing pin up photo of herself for Xmas? Am i right or what? I'm right. I'm ALWAYS right! We figure we're going to have specific workshops through-out the year, Xmas, Valentines Day blah blah blah.

It's strange, I've always been a music photojournalist, for years I thought that was my calling..and while I love shooting shows, the feeling of mailing that perfect shot, now that I've been in the studio more and more, I find myself leaving the camera at home during shows and just enjoying the tunes..no need to take elbows to the face, or beer on my lens..mind you that will NOT be the case this weekend..Greezefest III is this Friday. Blue Mercuray Coupe, The Shifters and The Goddamn Goddamns will be rocking the Elmo to the motherfucking ground..which if you're familiar with the Elmo, could actually happen lol..~stormingcolour and a friend are coming to town to hang with Amanda and I on Saturday, catching the Royal Crowns with us that night at the Caddy.

I haven't been on an actual vacation in years. IN fact the last time I left the country was waaaay back in gr 13. (back when there was gr 13) on a school trip to DC. Bush Senior was in office way back then to put a timeline on it. So come end of January, Amanda and I are leaving on a jet plane for 1 week for fun and sun and booze by the tonne, in CUBA! say what you will about castro and communism, but I sure as shit am not complaining about an all inclusive holiday for 7nights, all you can eat and drink in a 4 star hotel for $1450 - for the both of us! I'm counting down the days....

Less than a month ago, we Canadians spent billions of dollars on a federal election that wasn't even necessary. A federal election that was in truth against the very law the Prime Minister created that set a fixed election date every four years. An election that was nothing more than an attempt to grab more power..and what did we get? The status quo..a minority gov't once again...

So I turned my attention to last night's US election wondering, will they fuck it up for the 3rd time in a row? Will Ohio and Florida be responsible? but thankfully, our good friends to the south, that I looooooooooooove to rag on simply because they are American didn't screw up. Whatever your political alligience, you watched history being made. As I sat there and listened to one of the best speeches I've ever heard, I got goosebumps.

The London times asked back in 2004, "How could 250 million people be so stupid?", well it looks like they got some edumacation and experience is the best educator. Obama's race seems to be the topic everyone wants to talk about, nevermind that he was the right man for the job at this time, but you have to ask yourself, would he have won if he were a Republican? I'd put a hefty wager on "no".

Obama's race only prooves one thing really. America has grown up and selected the person they felt could best guide them, regardless of ancestry.

Now comes the real work, can he change how the world perceives the US, and can he fix or at least put on the path to fixing what is terribly terribly wrong with the country.

They say that all the great leaders of the world bring change, simply by being elected he's done that already. In listening to his speach last night I couldn't help but think of John F Kennedy, my fear is that like Kennedy, Obama will not see the end of his term.

although, considering how FUCKING COLD it is outside, that may not be such a bad idea. Anyways, I don't know how the fuck I got myself into it, but somehow I will be shooting not just my own pin up calendar this year, no, like shooting twelve girls in the span of 6 weeks while maintaining a life of some sort and working full time wasn't bad enough...I am now shooting THREE calendars. My calendar should actually be done by the last week of november, just in time for the holidays..Ollie, it better be a feature print, I got to recoup some costs yo

I'm also shooting a private one for a friend, she's giving it to her boyfriend as a gift for Christmas. I'm excited for that one as Jules is a fantastic gal, the best waitress at the Cadillac Lounge, she's pretty cute too and I think she's going to pull off classic pin up perfectly. Well of course she is, I'm fucking shooting it!

The last one just sort of fell into my lap. Initially I was to shoot just one girl for it, but in the last 24hrs it's turned into 4 probably 5 for the Pin-Up's For Farm Animals 2009 Calendar. This may seem really strange since well, I'm as big a meat eater as they come, but I do feel that regardless of their ultimate fate, all animals should be treated with care and as humanely as possible so I'm proud to be working with them. Expect to see some fantastic images from Virginia D'Vine, Boneyard Betty, creator of the zombie walks and many others. I will post a link as soon as the calendar is done and made available.

So you may have noticed a small but major change in the last few weeks. I am no longer the Pin Up. Glmaour and Commercial Gallery Director..whaaaa? but you still have a hat? that's right. The name Gallery Director has been changed to Gallery Moderator, because really that's what we do. We moderate the galleries, not direct. We are here to assist you the artist, not tell you what to do. With that change is also a team name change. As of this moment Artist relations is now Community Relations..you can find out more on that in the upcoming Newsletter that $Moonbeam13 will be posting.
With the changes comes a long awaiting prize, well prize for us in the moderation team..we can move miscats again WEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!! SO I've been spending the last two weeks getting back to the grind and cleaning up the mess that Pin Up and Glamour have beecome, Commercial suprisingly isn't so bad heh.

Photography ONLY!!!! No manipulation allowed aside from colour adjustments, levels etc. No textures are permitted. Borders and watermarking is ok.

Your entry must be new! Nothing submitted before October 20th 2008 will be accepted

The theme of your entry must fall into the gallery descriptions for Pin Up, Glamour or Commercial, but with a halloween twist of course.

So in case you've been living under a rock or don't have teh internetz (how are you reading this then?)you should be aware that today is International Talk like a Pirate Day!!!! YAAAAAAAAAAR! SO in great mn@ fashion there are events and swashbuckling everywhere on dAmn so check out the news article for more info [link] I'll be celebrating Pirate Day tonight at the Cadillac Lounge where my good mates the Von Drats will be hosting their annual Pirate gig and as a bonus it's their record release partaaaay, so if you live in the Toronto area come on by and see the Von Drats and New Jersey's very own The Brimstones as they cut their surf garage stuff all across your pasty belly..( I'm looking at you *MintyFreak )

My ass is HOT

I've got a fire under my ass lately. I've been planning and shooting and plotting and it's all coming together. SAWEEET. Found a fantastic studio to rent for any shoots, pretty much whenever I need it and stock full of equiptment. I start shooting my pin up calendar this week with two great friends and fantastic ladies as well as the tattoo book I've been working on for the better part of for fucking ever. Have about 9 new models lined up for the shoot including one that I've been really looking forward to working with and the return of ms Virginia D'Vine. On top of the calendar and the book still shooting the goddamn goddamns album and promo work..gonna be a crazy few weeks I tells ya....

and fuckin hell, it's getting cold out :\
