Intermediate Walkthrough w/CSS

This is a walkthrough tutorial article for jazzing up a skin with a few extras to make any skin a feature skin. It may require a bit more advanced CSS than Beginner. It features a journal design by =trezoid demonstrated here with permission. I created this article forever ago, and it was never 'finished' But thought I would share it and get it out of my Sta.sh anyways. Sorry if anything is out of date. But should have some useful tips any ways.

DT Star Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger

My contribution to `ginkgografix's Annual CSS Calendar. This year, mine features David Tennant in his Nativity 2: Danger in the Manger role. The DT in a star was digitally painted by me from reference on the official David Tennant Fan Page on Facebook. [link] The bg image is "Scribble" from Subtlepatterns.com - [link] , I made it semi-transparent to work with my design. I was playing with linear-gradients in this one (a lot), if you are on IE, then you are missing out. I tried to make it not make your eyes bleed at least in IE, so there you go. This is for the December 11th skin, which also happens to be my birthday, and all I could want would be a sparkly David Tennant star hopping, dancing and singing. Yes.

Live view of my first Premium Content Journal Skin, Rusted Rustic. This has examples of use. The skin is optimized for Mozilla Firefox and also displays well in IE9. I cannot offer support for other browsers. The Premium Content files contain the CSS, installation and usage instructions, as well as full support. The CSS is formatted as a Google Drive HTML file, this will open in your default browser. The Google Drive zip file contains a shortcut to the help file on Google Drive. Journal design for =warinmysky. This includes an alternate bg design element and alternate colors for blockquote and the alt box. All textures are my own and may be submitted as unedited seamless textures for stock. Texture comes from an aged canvas military bag *silverbane has converted into a cover for a book. Also from our mousepad. Mousepad is made by Razer. This is still a WIP waiting for additional graphics, either a png/banner image or social link menu.

Just a Little Glitter Journal Set

Journal Skin for =justalittleknotty using all her stock. Will be creating a complete set with matching gallery and custom box designs. This journal features a scroll box which contains a mini thumb gallery. The Steampunk girl is a link (not currently active) which can be interchanged with alternate images at her leisure. Sta.sh may not display all features properly. I'm submitting from Sta.sh first, if it is erroneous, I may be submitting via my journal instead. Like the glitter in this? It's a glitter style she created. I used layer masking, gradients and randomized brushes to create the piles of glitter, with a bit of sharpness filters. #projecteducate is featuring digital manipulations. Check out =justalittleknotty's wonderful stock and make some stuff!

Everything emulates her site, plus a bit of the glow thing I do and a box design. (you can't tell but the holder has a squid in it.) This comes with matching gallery and custom box. You can temporarily see the custom box on my front page.

Here is the ~~work in progress~~finished, please give me feedback here on your thoughts as we go. Save this link. I'll be updating it frequently. I'm thinking for a coordinating lit skin, maybe have no desk bg, just the paper texture so it is clean and simple, not distracting. but keep the ink bottle and pen and raven, etc.

For the thumb feature strip, I recommend trying =Bekey's DA Sort to use equally sized thumbs -- [link]

(the feature looks better not on Sta.sh, the preview is not accurate)

Cross my fingers. Already see some differences between the Sta.sh Writer and the preview here. My journal edits do not appear any more and the blo9ckquote I made is gone? Also the thumbs are positioned differently. I have all my post in clipboard here so will edit if I need to.... I am lacking confidence. Hmmm, keywords? And a licensing? I definitely like the Mature filter. The sharing should include whether or not it ends up in the Footer or on the News front page. Yesterday I took a glance at the News front page... Saw a lot of personal journals with people going WTF! Why are you reading my journals!!! So maybe DA should have a system to mark what is 'public' and what is profile view/watchers only. I do like that you can disallow comments. And that there is still a public view of the stashed journal so I can share skin WIPs with specific people I want critiques from only. And I'm sure not all of my watchers want to see the gobbly gook stage of my CSS. Do you? I think this will work nicely for commissions. Okay, so my journal description is getting longer than my journal!
