I've been on a quest for making my own ball jointed doll. I think I mentioned this in my last blog too. I recently discovered that Sculpey sucks and La Doll Premier clay rules. So, I'm starting a new doll with the new stuff.
Here is a sketch I did for the new one. His facial features have changed slightly, but, his body is the same.

Doing the layout for this guy seems to be easier on the computer than on a piece of paper. His head measurements turned out to be nine inches around. Exactly what I wanted. So, I'm starting on the head. I'll post it in scraps when (and if) I finish.

It's been a couple months since I've submitted something to the gallery. I have sketches that just need to be put in the scanner and on photoshop.
What has been distracting me from this gallery has been looking for work that is related to my field of study. I've been striving to get a full time graphic design internship that is available in my town. And internships in my town are hard to find!
If any of you have looked in my scraps gallery, I've caught the bug for knitting and I've been working like a crazy knitting girl to send stuff out to people before Christmas comes around.
So, hopefully I'll be getting a christmas card idea photoshoped and ready to go soon. I'll be sure to put it in this gallery once it's finished.

I'm getting paid! I don't have to sweat over how I'm gonna pay off the bed that I'll be getting within days. I even have enough to update my Photoshop from 7.0 to CS2.
Thank God. It’s a big weight off my shoulders.

There is a possibility I'll get two other jobs soon. One is for a Metal Band that needs an album cover. And the second one is for book illustrations for a child's book. The author is from my kindergarten music teacher!
I just have to see how things play out.

I went on with this freelance job full force not knowing what I was doing. I was working with Photoshop while I should have worked in Illustrator. I don't have Illustrator!
The clients I have are really enthused with my design. Not only will they have my design on their business truck and trailer, they will be putting them on shirts and jackets. They want it all ready by the beginning of September so they can have everything ready for a seminar show thingy. They wanna show their colors and represent! Alpaca style!
I’m house sitting for some old neighbor friends this week. They have two new puppies and a cat that they want me to take care of. The puppies are a handful ! one of them is a German Sheppard that likes to bite everything. This experience made me rethink in owning a dog. I am officially a cat person. Don’t get me wrong! I love dogs. But, I wouldn’t own one.
I’ll be working for a temp agency next week.

Okay, I have problems. A really easy task that I should know (and used to know), has become a challenge. Could anyone out there in the DAshere tell me how to install new fonts on to Microsoft Word? As well as photoshop. Grrr! So, trivial. Yet, difficult.
The alpacaaaaaaaa job has been a good experience for me. A had a new discovery about the people I’m working for. One of them used to work for an add agency. So, that person has been playing the devil’s advocate on the choices of my designs. They are pleased with what I’ve created and now it’s just making refinements. I’ll post it when I’m done with it.

Still… sigh... looking for work. Fortunately, I have a few more leads that I’m going to look into. At this point, I have become my worst enemy. Courage and persistence is something I’m lacking in right now. I’m doing my best to be optimistic.
Anyhow, I went to see superman and was disappointed by it. The actors and the VFX were great. But, I didn’t really enjoy the story all that much. As I walked out of the theatre I came up with a mini comic about the movie [link] .
As usual, I have about three different digital art projects going on at the same time for my quest in making a better demo and portfolio. It will be interesting to find a place to edit everything once I am finished.
One of my old friends from High School is taking off the serve our country. She’ll be gone for ten months and after that, anything goes. She’s going to serve as a nurse to help pick up the injured and try to keep them alive from point A to point B. I pray that whatever she does she will be safe.

Do any of you find yourself starting one project and then setting it down to start another? That's the case for me. I found another little hobby to busy myself with so the other real artistic projects are put on the back burner.

That’s right. I picked it up because I knew it was difficult to do. It was like a puzzle with yarn. It was one of those scenarios of 'I'm not going to quite until I figure this out! Even if it takes me all night'.GRR! So, yah. I'm a crazy lady with yarn. I made a scarf and worked on a pattern project that took me forever to get it right. On Saturday I went to an Sauk Centre. A small farm town. I visited the grandparents and we went to a small community art show. One of the artists who had his art on display owned a small publishing business. We had a nice personable chat and he mentioned that he needed someone to update the business webpage. I told him that I might be able to help him. So, he gave me his card and told me to drop off a resume. I never expected to be networking that day. I wasn't dressed for it either. A tie dye Hendrix shirt and ripped jeans. Hehe.
I don't know. We'll see what happens.

It was a job I didn't even want. It was in White Bear Lake. The job description was for skills in photoshop and to help with pamphlets. I put the two together thinking 'oh good, I'll be creating the pamphlets.' Nope not even that. It would just be standing in front of a printer all day and organizing papers.
I spend the rest of my time on the computer. I've been trying to teach myself to texture map in 3d Max. When I'm finished with the tutorials, I hope to model and texture map "Roy The Toxic Boy" from Tim Burton. We'll see.
Happy news! AIR CONDITIONING! Some people take it for granted. But, where I'm living right now, it's an occasion.

The plus side of it, is I'm learning more about the software program then I ever did in my college class. Like, oh, what the pen tool is used for!! My teacher didn't even teach the uses of the tool. The extent of his teaching was, 'and that them thar box thingy is a pen tool.' Okay, maybe not like that but its disappointing to have the need to be teaching myself this stuff after graduating. Hot keys are always useful too.

And then, when your about to leave, you feel as though you've made new friends right before you have to leave (County Fair Project)?
Typical me, I leave everything 'till the last minute. I made errands throughout the school to close the deal on me graduating today. There were a lot of things that I wasn't informed of that I needed to do before leaving. You can say I was out of the loop. My cap and gown needed to be purchased two weeks ago. Luckily, there was a cap and gown my size that was left over from last quarter that no one accounted for that I was able to borrow. I asked about a tassel, I was afraid that I wouldn't get one. But, in the supply store, the manager dug out a used tassel from his desk. He charged me $4.50. This was fine with me. Sometimes doing things last minute pays off. I didn't have to spend $35.00 or so on something I was only going to wear once.
I'll be leaving to move back in with my family after graduation. I'm broke. I'm just thankful I have a place to live and that I have a good relationship with my family. So, it will work out. I'll be earning my license. Something that I've held off long enough.
I was also cheered up by my job placement meeting I had today. The person that was helping me said she was confident I would find something in my field. Cause at this point, I am willing to try anything.
Chronicle of Narnia was breathtaking! Go and see it!! The cg characters are so well done. It's like something I would have imagined in my mind's eye. The score of the movie was awesome! It had and Enya quality about it, but, only better! I haven't read the book. But, like a good consumer whore, I got the book after watching the movie.
With all this going on, I might not have time to make anything for DA for a while. Perhaps during Xmas vacation.

This time it’s a guy named Phil Keaggy. I think that he's one of the best guitar player out there today. So, that will be nice closure for the end of college. I'll still be scampering around another week after that for my portfolio and demo.
Being from up north, it is a necessity to bundle up for the winter. I made a great discovery. Leg warmers. Yes, you read right. The best invention for all your leg warming needs.

My whole college experience has been very trying. One minute the faculty will tell me that my work is just fine and give me high grades. The next, they will tell me that my work is crap and to get rid of it. I really wish I could have sufficient guidance as to how to create my demo and portfolio. But, I have never received it.
My portfolio isn't the way I want it. I don't carry any particular trademark style to call my own. What I can say though is that it’s diverse. In some cases I guess it would be considered to be useful in the field I chose to follow artistically. But, in my portfolio, it’s hard to convey that.
I have no idea what area of animation to go into. No one has brought up my strengths, only what I need to improve on. With all this happening I have felt withdrawn. And have been hiding in a hole so to speak avoiding anymore feedback from my peers. It just seems to confuse the shit out of me.
I carry a personality that is indecisive in decision making. It shows in my work. I carry a bunch of ideas with me. But, seem to never follow through with it because "I'm not sure if that will work out properly" or "should I use this idea or that". I can never make up my mind. I think I will purchase a monkey to point a picture it likes and without critique or question I'll just do it. And even if the ending product was a piece of shit my personal monkey would clap for me. Oh, God I need sleep.
I seek opinions from other people too much. It’s kind of hard not to when I have to figure out what is acceptable now in the "industy" and what idea will give me the job and bring bread to the table.
The only people that seem to have confidence in me would be my parents. Who, throughout my entire college career, have been feeding me and giving me everything I need to work on my chosen field (like an expensive computer and software). It breaks my heart with the thought that they have invested all the time and money to help me with what I want to do and I might not succeed. I thank God every day for my parents and what they have done for me and that they actually give a crap.
There! I've pored my heart out on the World Wide Web! If anyone would like to share how they have coped or are coping with these same doubts and fears I would be interested to know. Anything at this point will help.

There was a guy who showed up with a kilt and knee high stockings. And yes, there were a group of guys even head bangin in the front. I had really good seats.
The only weird part about it was that the band had a guest violinist who played with them. The band amused the guest by backing her up with songs she wanted to play like, parts of Queen and Led Zeppelin. I never expected Tull to play those. It was pretty odd.
I went to go see Harry Potter this weekend too. I think the Goblet of Fire is the strangest out of the four movies. There were sections in it that felt really out of place in comparison to the other ones. The parts I'm talking about of course, is the tub scene and the Ball scene.
The dragon part was so cool!

There was so much attention to detail it was ridiculous. Really funny too. Should I dare write, better than Corpse Bride.
Chicken Little was a disappointment. It was lacking in character development. It had nice eye candy in it. That’s about it.

Other than that, I've just been wigging out over finishing up college, finding a job, and finding a place to live. I've been very exhausted. It might be a while till my next instalment in the gallery. I've been picking away at another Capt. Jack Sparrow painting. And a Fruits Basket Anime fan art thingy that regurgitated out of my left drawing hand (I am cringing as I write this).

The weather was so nice out! The smell and sight of fall leaves. Sigh. It’s the simple things
The day before Halloween I went to a friends Halloween party. I dressed like a pirate, talked like a pirate, and drank like a pirate. I got acquainted with Captain Morgan.
This year has been the best Halloween I've ever had. Alas. This year will be the last time I go trick or treating.
