So I am now officially 21! I was born around 7:30AM so yeah....I'M SO PSYCHED! I am actually not doing much today. I opened presents last night because with grad school, it's hard for my brother to find a spare minute. I got some fun stuff, including the Disney My Villains Monopoly game! Ratigan is on Boardwalk's spot of course! I am having lunch with my grandma and am going to the DMV to get my license updated, new picture, yay! Tomorrow night is when the party will begin. My cousins are in St. Louis today at the Cardinal/Cubs game so because they wanted to be a part of the drinking festivities with me and my brother, we're waiting for them. Don't worry, I'm a light weight, I'll mostly dance and laugh at them! In a way that's good. I was up till midnight with my best friend playing Villain's Monopoly and watching One Hundred And One Dalmations I won, I was shocked! I guess my childhood sister-like friend had kept me in the dark about the real rules of Monopoly so she could beat me all those times! Without her rules, I do JUST fine!

Yeah, fun times! Pictures will be on my Facebook and I can always add a link to some for you guys here. I am thinking of trying to get the fan-fiction stories up here for you, might be a while, so no promises of when, but I will try. I have to get 2 stories updated on the actual fan-fiction site for fans who have been waiting WAY too long for updates!

Have a WONDERFUL Friday everyone!

So because my brother is in grad school and because he had that apartment fire, he really was in need of a laptop. Mom and him went to the tech place at the college, and he got this incredible deal where he got a great laptop and a printer/scanner/copier. The best part? He set up the printer here since he's living with us, I think he plans to let us keep it. I can now scan my artwork right onto the computer at home, no more going to my aunt's to do it, and thus forgetting my sketchbook there every time I go! So yeah, you guys got 4 new pieces from me uploaded! Yay!

So tomorrow is September 1st, meaning it's 17 days till my birthday, but not just my birthday guys....my 21st! And actually, I'm more happy that I'm passing this milestone than I am about being allowed to consume/purchase/transport alcohol in all 50 states of the US. I'm serious! Yeah, it's nice knowing that I can actually go to clubs and hang out with my cousins when they go up to the city to party and spend the night in a hotel, but it's more about the fact that I'm allowed now, not so much about the act of partying itself. I was just the kind of girl who didn't party or do anything that was illegal, and that meant if someone was sneaking in some booze I didn't want to be there. I didn't buy a fake ID, I wasn't interested, and so many people I know in this town are like that. I was a goody-goody that way! But now I can let loose a little bit, and it's not like I want to go crazy or anything, but just to know that the option to go out and meet some people is there, that's really nice! I'm psyched!

So anyway, life is good. Things are looking up, and art will be SO much easier to get up here now! It's all good!

Oh dear, where to start? The title was a question asked to my dad's mom by his sister, who visited us this week from Cali. Problem? Soon after they arrived, trouble brewed in our family.

The Saga of Poe

Poe is our only surving cat now. He is a male blue-point Siamese, thus being male, thinks he is king of the jungle! So recently we've bought a flea collar for him and let him go outside around our trailer park for a few hours each day, since he's fixed, to "be male". Thursday my cousin took him out and since the neighborhood kids like to harrass him, he flew out of my cousin's arms and took off when he heard their screams. Thought nothing of it, since he always comes back. At 4 that evening, the little bugger had not shown up. Gracie starts to get nervous, as does her mother. Poe knows his way home, he NEVER goes out too long. 12 hours since he left, no sign. We call all over, go all over surrounding neighborhoods, nothing. The night passes with tosses and turns. Where is he? Did someone take him? Did some animal hurt him? He doesn't have front claws, what if he couldn't fight back? What if he is lying somewhere bleeding out? All those thoughts flashing through our minds. Next morning, still no Poe. Mom instructs me to make a flyer. Numb with worry, I make one out and fall back asleep crying as she runs all over town sticking up flyers and going to the newspaper to put an add for a lost cat. All day we couldn't move without thinking he was gone. We went to dinner with my aunt, uncle, and cousins trying to get it out of our minds. We thought either someone had him and the add would help, or he'd just decided to take off and never come back. That night at around 10, we decided to scout the neighborhood one last time before letting it go to fate. We called, we shined a flashlight, we went into a brickyard that flanks our park, calling all over, our dachshund Bella with us, who by the way, could tell something was wrong. We spent at least an hour, maybe an hour and a half looking. We came back home. Mom sat on the front porch reflecting, I went inside to do the same. We were dreading accepting the inevitable, that our cat was not coming back. When Mom came in, I had been sitting for 10 minutes, maybe less, when I heard a meow. We had always been having those "missing animal delusions" where you think you hear them but it's something else entirely, but this WAS a meow. The second time I heard it, I said, "I swear to God, that's a meow." Jumped up, went to the door, Poe bumps past my leg into the house!!!! I burst out crying I was so shocked and happy. We took a lot of the flyers down over the next few days, but are happy our beloved cat is home, with nothing but a small cold to show for his insolense. Needless to say, he will never go outside alone again without a cat leash!

Fire Kitties

Saturday morning around 3AM- I am sitting up in bed, can not believe Poe came home, and can't sleep. I am reading an old favorite book to help me fall back into dreamland when I hear Mom's phone go off once. It goes off again. I know by now it is my brother, probably wasted and drunk-dialing us as he likes to do. But when it rings a third time I think something must be wrong. I answer, my brother is talking panicked and scared. "Grace, I pulled up to my apartment and it's on fire. I don't know where the cats are, the fireman says one might have gotten out. Oh God, oh God, get Mom." I try to calm him down while running into Mom's bedroom, screaming that she needs to get up, Graham's apartment is on fire. Mom bolts up out of a dead sleep and starts to come unglued. My poor brother! He was finishing up school at U of I and was coming home in August to do grad school at ISU, living with us to save money. His cats, Lila and Rita, are two Siamese that we rescued last August from a kitty-mill basically in some ladie's home in Missouri. They are his babies, and he adores them. What do we do?

My mother panicked as we drove over to my aunt's. I knew I couldn't make the hour-drive myself as I had to keep my mom calm. My brother was alive, I kept telling her. Everyone had gotten out, it was just the cats. The fire they think started in the apartment below my brother's second-story residence by...

I read and listen to music more for stress relief than I draw, drawing is more of a hobby I have to practice on, and when you're stressed, you just want to do something that requires no practice I guess, I don't know. I love my rodents and small animals, I had mice and guinea pigs growing up and would love a rat or hedgehog.

11. I am among one of the millions of Americans who secretly enjoys shows like "Cops", "Jail", and "Locked Up". It's my morbid sense of curiosity I got from my mom.

12. I hate Britney Spears but there's something about her pop music that I enjoy...forgive me!

13. I LOVE my Broadway and plays! Musicals are the best though. I have seen Wicked twice and I would love nothing more than to be in it...dream big I know!

14. I'm good in front of kids and in formal situations, but outside of that, I cuss, with a few exceptions of words, but yeah, my mouth can be a potty!

15. I randomly will quote movies, books, TV, or just start singing. Doesn't matter who's around...

16. I was so imaginative as a child I literally talked to trees and would ride my bike around talking to make-believe people. I would change three times or more just so I had the perfect outfit for the right "make believe game". I liked being off alone more too, though I enjoyed my friends.

17. I have an 18-year-old Tonkinese cat named Louise who has been with me since I was 3. She has outlived her biological aunt who served as her mother, and another cat and a dog of ours.

18. My dad has been dead for two and a half years and it still feels like he could walk in the door any minute. He was my best friend, and he taught me so much about art, music, and above all...life. Miss you Daddy!

19. I can do many accents, but I'm told my English ones are the best.

20. Done! Off to bed with me now! Toodles!

I had no idea, but I guess many people on this site feel that if you use a reference picture and do nothing different to the pose than you're not referencing, but rather copying someone's work. Now, I've never referenced anyone on this site's original work but rather movie shots, and I always put that they're my interpretations (because let's face it, I'm not the greatest out there folks) of the pose or picture in question. But that still makes me a copier? Isn't that how one practices? Referencing? I free-hand the stuff I post, that doesn't make any difference? Your thoughts on this...

All right everyone, I messaged this girl on myspace a long time ago after I found her with a myspace page under Basil's name. She seems innocent, but she's using fan art of some of my deviant friends/people I admire and I'm not too happy! I told her she should get their permission and credit them but it looks like she didn't take my hint, so now I'm letting you know, because I know I would be angry if my work was being uncredited. Looks like she has a LOT of fanpages under the names of characters, checked her Ratigan page too, more fanwork uncredited! So, I'd check all her pages for your work. These people need to realize what they're doing! Don't know if all these people I've listed have my page favorited, so if they're your friend let them know for me! Thanks!
So far here are artists I’ve found her copying and pasting into her “pics” section for the page.

Okay, I'm getting sick of the fact that I have all these wonderful ideas for pictures and stuff but I can't seem to get them out on paper.

I use reference pictrues of GMD all the time, but I've never drawn myself. I have trouble with proportion, and I hate the grid method, but I just have trouble like drawing Ratigan say in a pose he's never been in a picture from the film in, like, scratching his head while looking into a mirror.

Any advice on how I can break my stupid perfectionist pessimism and learn to study different positions? I have two books on drawing people, so I'm sure there's some stuff in there, but basically I just need to know how I can find my own style of drawing, my own interpretation of people, and be happy with it, even though it's not picture perfect looking. I know that's the cool thing about art, all the different perceptions, but without hours of erasing and whining, I usually get no where. How do you find your own little art style? Like KP's rendition of me. THat was really good! Just how do you get those little styles of your own? Just experiment? Practice, practice? What are some things you guys do or did to help you learn to draw what you saw in your head, how to make something have form and not look like a stick figure? How to get your drawings more cleaned up, not as much erasing? Any comments would be appriciated. Thanks!

LOL, for those of you who watch Christmas Vacation religiously on Christmas, you know what that means. Words of wisdom from Cousin Eddy! hehe

I think yesterday was the hardest as far as missing Dad, Mom and I opened a few of my presents since Graham wasn't too much into the whole family stay-at-home thing and went out partying with friends. I got some cool stuff, including several GMD pins (my favorite the "Let Me Be Good To You" pin with Basil and Ratigan on it), a 1st edition SIGNED copy of The Book of Joe by Vincent Price, lol, yes it was the copy he gave to one of his vets, I found that amusing since I always wanted to be a vet when I was little, lol, and this beautiful sapphire ring. Still got some stuff to open, if we can ever get my bro's butt out of bed. Might have to take a meat cleaver to his head!

Then we go to my aunt's where hopefully I'll stuff myself with food and won't have to pay the ultimate price via my Crohn's acting up. Mom's already sick, poor thing!

Well, Happy Christmas, and if you don't celebrate it, Happy Holidays or Happy Day or whatever! hehe

*Does a little dance* BABY ALL I WANT FOR CHRISTMAS IS YOU!

Ratigan- Turn that woman off! That carnary-like voice...yeesh!

Grace- Hey! You call me a canary!

Ratigan- Yes, but I never have to hear you go an octive above all humanity at 11 in the morning, after a night of the cats jumping on me.

Grace- Aww, poor poor Ratsey!

Ratigan- WHAT?!

Grace- Opps! Toodles folks! EEK! *jumps over sofa and arms herself with Ratigan's cane* Scratch me and I whack your knees in!

Ratigan- Give me that!

Hehe, I love doing this silly little dialogues. Don't ask why, I have a small life, it amuses me!

I have been browsing and adding some more favorites this morning when I came to this conclusion...there is way too much Snape fan art/fan fiction to go un-noticed by the British actor who got into something bigger than he thought...Alan Rickman.

Hehe, how can you not love Alan? The only time I found myself wanting to bash him over the head was when his character in "Love Actually" was a jerk, and I was quite ashamed of myself for that. *hangs head* So sorry Alan! But his Sheriff of Nottingham...PRICELESS! "Shut up you TWIT!" haha *claps*

But he is a very good Snape, is he not? A little harder to hate though, even when he's a bastard to Harry. I don't know what it is, but I'm very fond of those witty, slick villains/characters *cough* Ratigan *cough* Gregory House *cough* Geoffrey Rush's Marquis De Sade *cough* They're just too deliciously good to hate! They make me laugh.

And many argue (as I do), that Snape may not be a villain after all. Certainly not the first person you'd want to run to for help or support, but he's not entirely soulless. I can't wait for movie #5. To see Alan and Dan arguing during those lessons...it's gonna be good! To end this odd journal entry devoted to the observation of Snape obsessions we have, I'm posting a quote from the trailer for Order of Phoenix.

Harry- I'M NOT WEAK!
Snape- THEN PROVE IT!

If you change Harry to me and Snape to “World”, that mimics my exact situation with authority figures!

Ta-ta my dear art freaks!

YAY! So I finally took my sketchbook over to my aunt's and got these babies online!!! I know, for some of you with your talent, these would be scraps, but I'm actually quite amused by them. My featured one particuarly because of the toupee-like hair I accidently gave Ratigan.

Ratigan- And you will pay for it...
Grace- Uh oh....[runs]

Hehe, check 'em out dear friends!

Wow it's been so long! I was scared I had forgotten my password for this!

I haven't been on in forever, my quest in practicing art was put on hold with my Dad's illness. Daddy passed away four months ago, but he left us to a place where he feels no pain.

I don't have a scanner anymore, but I do have some new things to post, and am going to start drawing more and more and try to submit them. I'm also thinking of posting some fanfic up here too.

Anyway, thank you all for sharing your skills, they make me smile!

Yes, sorry I have practically nothing up. That's the problem with me and art. It's all about perfection, and my work is FAR from it. I haven't found inspiration for another diviation yet. When I do I promise I'll get it up here.

Hey Guys! I'm new as a diviant, but I think I've been watching this place for a year or so. I stumbled on *Skyechan's website through Fanfiction.net and loved her work, and loved that of her friends and members of the GMD club.

Unfortunatly not much for you to look at right now except a picture. I am getting a scanner today from a family friend who's never used it, so I should have some up either tonight or tomorrow.

I would LOVE any comments, suggestions, anything to get my artistic skills flowing. I have trouble with taking people and changing their facial expressions/positions, so hopefully books on anatomy and stuff will help. But as I said, any advice is appriciated!
