I've lived in a developed country. I was born and raised in the UK and even so I was taught, along with my classmates, the importance of recycling and being environmentally conscious. I moved to a 'third world country' and a lot of people lack basic commodities, a lot of them don't know what recycling is. And what is shown on TV doesn't help.

This is the part I hate the most about being a grown-up: money.

As many of you may already know, I have a day job and I illustrate and design on the side. The day job is okay, it's dynamic, it pays the bills, it helps me save...but it doesn't satisfy me in the same way as reaping the rewards for an illustration. I really want to get started making some financial gain out of art but it's so difficult because of all the obstacles and limits of the country I live in.

Reading stuff on the web, and apart from getting paranoid about suffering from the rarest and most mortal form of cancer (thanks internetz), my symptoms coincide with PVC (premature ventricular contraction) so it feels like my heart flutters or does a triple jump every once in a while. I've had tachycardia issues before and had an EKG done when I was 16 but I want to get checked over again just in case.

I'm trying to be optimistic...My beloved told me he had been selected to do a postgraduate degree with the Colombian Air Force, which basically means he has to join. The course lasts one year (training included) and after that...who knows? We are trying to make the most out of this time by concentrating on our individual goals, but that doesn't mean we're going to give up on each other!

Guys, I feel like I can see clearly again!

I don't know what it was, a post-graduate crisis, the Mercury retrograde, too much chocolate or what but these past few months have been straaaaaange. no inspiration, no energy, no vision...nada. I haven't drawn anything voluntarily in a while, nor have I felt like it. I was just on auto-pilot during all this time.

Those were my aunt's last words in the small hours of yesterday morning. Of course, she said them in spanish and the english translation looks a bit weird, but there you go. She had been suffering from diabetes for years and even had to get one leg amputated. With just a little more than 2 weeks till the end of the semester, my teachers have gone all out and plonked a bajillion projects on our heads so I won't have time for much else T.T

I have just a week to build a working, moving, interactive infographic....it's going to be huge. And I have exams coming up, as well as some awful awful public exams which are MANDATORY OMG. Without them I'm not allowed to graduate :(

I study graphic design...actually graphic communication design, which is almost the same but based on human communication. It's interesting, because we have to learn a lot about how a person communicates, how they see, what they see etc. We have to delve into some psychology too. It's a great career, the only problem is that I love illustration. And being an illustrator in Colombia is almost unheard of, and not something you can pursue on it's own.
