My thanks go out to Tim in southeastern Michigan for inviting us up to nibble his food and enjoy his beer. I got to read several of my stories and never heard grown men laugh so hard...this made me feel very, very good. With all of my art, knowing that I can bring a chuckle to someone feels great. By the time it was over, we were starting to put together a story-by-committee, with each one of us contributing. It wasn't bad, BTW, seeing the Lansing/Battle Creek area, which I hadn't been to since 1988. Nan and I stayed in an awesome hotel, ]]></media:text>

I like Fountain Square anyway, as it is one of the few places in Indy where they haven't bulldozed the old buildings. It's a tiny little spot just southeast of the downtown. The guy that ran the store helped me track down a Futurama button for my book bag, as well as a Dr. Who t-shirt for my daughter. Afterwards I took Nancy down to Cheeseburger in Paradise in Southport for an awesome meal. We've still got cruddy weather to deal with here for a few weeks, but it's fun to have a ball on the weekends. BTW, I'll ]]></media:text>

Of course this is Indiana, where I've seen winter drag into the later weeks of April. We had a very mild winter last year with very little snow...this one was more like normal. Patty and I later went to that most amazing grocery store, Jungle Jim's, where we literally picked up groceries from all over the world; I got beer from the Ukraine, Lithuania, and the UK, while Pat got some Irish oatmeal and tea for her daughter. This mall has suffered such terrible economic stress in recent years, mostly because of gangs wanting to hang out there. This is the mall where I bought the original Star Wars book in 1977. It's the mall where I spent my 15th birthday in 1978. All they needed was to have their door torn off this morning. Over on the east side of Indianapolis in the area known as Irvington I discovered a really cool coffeehouse called Crazy Daze Coffeehouse. In our city we have this irritating habit of bulldozing old buildings into the ground. The areas of Irvington and nearby Fountain Square are exceptions to the rule, places where you can still find older buildings and houses. This coffeehouse is just "filled with awesome," as my daughter would put it. Local art adorns the walls, and some of the walls are indeed painted by these same people. Before some Star Wars fan gets really offended, I just want to first say that I was one of those 14 year olds that fell in love with it in 1977. I still really like it to this day, although I enjoy the actual stories behind the movies more nowadays. I don't have a Star Wars soundtrack record anymore because I literally wore the thing out. This being said, now I must rant. Again, I did a little Star Wars research for a story I'm putting together...this is where I found the thing that shocked me. All I wanted was to find a picture of Lando Calrissian's top aid - you know...the guy with the robot thin ]]></media:text>

<media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ I can't help but laugh at how wierd this life is anymore. I am in the middle of writing another story, and I needed to geek the reference from Star Wars about a droid speaking Bocce. As I've said before, ad nauseum, I am 48 years old. Star Wars came out in May of 1977 when I was 14. If you would have told me then that I would have been able to get this obscure piece of information when I was nearly 50, (on a computer, no less!), I would have laughed my ass off. Speaking of Bocce, here's what I found out...a word close to it used to be an insult to refer to the Germans in World War I. I not only found a reference for Bocce, but I found a gob o ]]></media:text>

Just a little more than an hour and a half ago, a massive stage rigging was blown down onto the audience at the Indiana State Fair during a line of thunderstorms that blew through here tonight; if you see this on CNN or something, this is only about 25 minutes down the road from us. At this point, no one knows any numbers, but it is believed that about a dozen people were injured in the wreckage, and they are saying that four are dead and two more have severe head trauma. They had to set up a triage for the injured, if that gives you any indication of how bad the situatio ]]></media:text>

Going to a hobby store to buy a Copic marker seems like such an easy thing, but it turned into an adventure tonight. First off, there still is a ton of construction north of Indianapolis, so just getting t the store in Westfield was an adventure. We get to the store and find that theft had become such a problem among these markers (they're almost $6 a pop) that they have had to move them to a back room and that a manager had to retrieve them for us. She then took the marker, a dark pink for Leela's lips, up to the cash register instead of us just carryi ]]></media:text>

<media:text type="html"><![CDATA[ Good Lord, what a couple of weeks it has been. I shall never forget this July 4th as long as I live. Last Monday a fat cat from the evil empire we were sold out to came in and ripped everything I had worked on this summer apart. If anyone knows me, I'm a "Scruffy the Janitor" for a high school. One of the things I do really well is wax floors...although it's not glamorous, it has paid the bills for the last five years. I liked the job until we were outsourced two years ago to a foreign-owned corporation based in Maryland - when this happened, I lost my benefits, my retirement, my post as a supervisor and $3.50 an hour from my pay.
