In other news I went go-karting yesterday and omg I am aching today! I only hit the tyre wall once but I did hit it very hard, so hard I almost flew out of the kart lol, and now I have a nice bruise on my side My forearms are aching the most though which means I might go slower than normal with the drawing this weekend. I'm well ahead of the end of the round though so if I can avoid killing myself, I will. There should still be plenty of time for gaming even if I run a few days over

So, I made it! There was no journal entry yesterday because I spent the day doing things that did NOT involve my PC or Photoshop or Spire. BLASPHEMY, I know, but it's been a rough round and I really really really needed a break, so much to the extent that if I lose, I honestly will not mind. My gaming and movie-watching backlog is like THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS big D: and while having the Spire to throw myself into as a distraction when my grandad died was good, I'm feeling it catching up with me a bit now that I've got time to stop and reflect.

On the other hand, I'm feeling a lot more motivated than I was two weeks ago and I'm already brimming with ideas for what to do if I do, by some MIRACLE, beat 's amazing round which you should go and read right now btw, DO EET.

Working with Kaida and Zypher was completely different to how I'd been working in my previous rounds, which was mostly independently and giving my best guess into my opponents' characters. I had fun <3 and I hope I did Zypher (and LC!) justice!

_{This is also the first time I don't have a headstart and have to wait to find out the results No bus, plane, train or automobile can stop the machine that is Kaida! Maybe my curse has lifted finally! Although I think Kaida's machine nature reflected it back at me this round, with all the shit that happened}

All in all, a good round that I'm happy with X3 I can honestly say I gave it my best shot. There are areas that I know needed work/time/elaboration, but other parts I'm really proud of.

Now, I'm gonna go play more games while I wait on the results XD

1) His name has actually changed since his conception. He used to have a first name, but when the roleplay I created him for died out fairly fast, I reused the first name in a different roleplay character and kinda left Phaidan by the wayside until Ebon Spire came along. At which point the first name got dropped and I stuck with Phaidan. As for Phaidan itself, there's no special story behind it or anything. Except that the first syllable rhymes with pie and I liked the sound of it. EDIT: His name is said with the stress on the second syllable, not the first. I'm guessing this error is where the common typo ' Phaiden ' comes from XD

2) Phai was originally created for a forum roleplay I was involved in, but although it was promising, it died out way too fast .__. I started out with a focal point in his backstory before anything else - the concept that appeared in his audition, of him being freed but subsequently putting his shackles back on. I've encountered numerous slave characters in various media but most of them tend to range towards being rebellious and striving for freedom, or deriving perverse pleasure from being dominated (hurrrr). I'd watched or read something around the time related to Stockholm syndrome and figured it would be interesting to apply to a fantasy slave character. Whilst 'happy' would maybe be a stretch, Phaidan was at least comfortable as a slave under Jago, and his conflict and development started ~after~ he was forced to stand on his own two feet.

His actual design came from a mix of inspirations, including an ultra-cheesy but fun action anime movie called Shadow Skill where the titular technique was derived from female slaves having to fight with their lower halves as their hands were always bound. I love desert/tribal characters so that ended up being part and parcel of his look, too.

The long hair was a personal indulgence. DON'T JUDGE ME. Besides, I honestly didn't intend for him to look like a girl (and maybe it's just to my anime-abused eye, but I still don't think he does beyond the long hair and baggy clothes). At best I thought he was androgynous, which is a look I've always been fond of anyway.

3) Beyond a name change, I haven't really used him enough before the Spire to note any significant changes. His development through the tournament is still ongoing, and he faces some tough decisions this round.

4) If he had a pet, it would be a fluffy white cat called Master Snuggles. Cats are the best pets for dominating the owner. And you can totally blame for this one XD

I'd be lying if I didn't say this was completely disappointing. I would like to have won on my own merits 9_9 But ah. That's life.

I thought I was going to take a break for a bit until match-ups are announced but argh, I have some epilogue pages to do to tidy up this round and I'm itching to get started. There's also no less than two SEs/prologue thingamies I want to do this time for Round 3. But I've already decided I HAVE to cut the actual match down this time. If we don't get an extension ever, I won't make that pace at that quality.

In Ebon Spire news, I'm now inking my 20, TWENTY PAGE epic for Round 2 _{plus a possible epilogue page}. I actively tried to make this round shorter so I could colour it all so HOW DID THIS HAPPEN. The intro pages may be full colour but the rest will probably be minimally rendered. I keep thinking we have more time than we actually do and forget we had an extension last time >_>

So Phaidan's up against the military tagteam might of 's Alex and Tino! Oh dear XD Ranged weapons are kind of Phai's main weakness but this is OKAY. I'm really looking forward to butting heads with grey in this one, it should be an interesting match X3

Ticking clock match type seems to be the most universally feared after round 1, but I'm kind of excited by the prospect of inventing my own Spire-approved method of slow torture :'D I already have a very strong idea in my head which I may well go with, but we'll see!

That was a mission and a half, but a mission I adored from start to finish. I really want to finish it off in full colour like the first 4 pages but we'll see how time goes. I already have my next intermission in mind >__>

I put a crapload of work into my round 1 entry. 3 prologue pages AND 18 for the actual match, whuuuut! This was a massive jump from my audition of 10 relatively small pages with far fewer panels on most of them. But it was a great challenge. I learned so much, not just about comic'ing but in general with my inking techniques, getting the important visual information down, etc. I would totally recommend joining an OCT to anyone thinking about it ^^

And even though we have some incomplete entries, I'm loving everyone's work so far <3 There's some amazing stuff here. I'm still reading it all and still buzzing XD

Phaidan. Uhm . . . I get called 'boy' . . . and 'you' a lot. Does that count? Did I answer right?

My master told me 26, from his records. Why would he lie?

Favourite? Well . . . I don't know. Strong flavours and new foods tend to make me feel funny. Master was kind enough not to give me too many treats, after that time I nearly lost a fight because of bellyache.

4. And your favorite drink?
Sometimes the water would be cold. Hmm. That was nice.

5. Confession time! Who's your crush/lover?
Wh-what? Do you mean . . . some kind of woman?

Making decisions. What if I get it wrong? That's why it was easier for my master to make them. He knows best.

Siblings, like family, uhm . . . The easiest answer is no.

I didn't like my fifth master. But I might get in trouble if I call him an enemy. Insulting the masters is dangerous.

That would depend on what I was told to do.

Is he higher than me? A kind of master? I guess I would see what he wanted me to do.

The Ebon Spire OCT got me inspired to actually do some art so I've submitted my audition. I think I've done more art in the past two weeks than in the past few years combined >_>;; which is bizarre. But while the motivation is there I'll ride it as far as I can XD And who knows. Maybe this will be the kickstart of my old arting days where drawing was pretty much all I did. I'd at least like to be able to get stuff in my head down on paper, which until recently was very much a struggle. When the Ebon Spire audition came out with nary a snag, no one was more bewildered than me.

I would like to know what drugs I've been slipped, and purchase some more, plzkthx. I've wanted to have a go at one of these OCTs ever since I saw the majesty of Endzone. They look like a crapton of fun and so far, my entry has been.

Anyway, I was actually working on something else for a certain somebody's birthday before the OCT hijacked my art drive. I'm hoping to ride the aftermath though and finish it off in record time XD

I'm neither please nor displeased by the raising of this orphaned works thing again, nor am I going to go into detail about whether I support or trash it. But please read the above before freaking out any further, guys XD I hold artists' rights as dear to my heart as you all do and I know you mean well, but the drama surrounding this thing has gotten utterly out of hand.

Take a step back, seek out the original documentation on this thing, and see what you make of it yourself. Relying on severely biased sources to understand the concept is not a great idea, and so far I have seen very few that are not kneejerk reactions.
