Heus!
So, Thanksgiving was great and I hope you all had a great time as well. I spent it in Seattle with some family friends who I've known since....birth, pretty much. Great people, gotta love 'em. Of course, there was a tiny disaster while Maria and I were cooking dinner, and we didn't realize it until we SERVED dinner. This was the fact that there were absolutely NO vegetables. We forgot to cook them, even though we had them, as all of our attention was on the turkey and the movie we were watching at the time. (Meet Joe Black. Awesome movie. A real tear-jerker.)In any case, it was still a wonderful dinner.
Now I'm preparing for finals here at Gonzaga, then it's home for the holidays. I've already planned cooking/movie-watching sprees with my friends back home, and now I'm really looking forward to it.
Currently, I'm working on a picture of Richard Harris and Snake, from Metal Gear Solid (the latter is an Xmas gift for a friend of mine who loves the games.) Hopefully, I'll get around to posting them....

And I decided to double major in Classical Civilizations and Biology--which people think is really random until I tell them that I want to go into Anthropology during Grad School, then they're like, "Ooooh...Ok. That's cool, I guess." Occasionally I'll get, "What's Anthropology," at which point I just look at them funny until they go away.

ANYWAY, that's the random update. My roommate is awesome, and a soph so I'm not completely lost, thank the gods.
Right now I'm working on a piece of Summer Glau, an actress and ballet dancer. She was in the movie "Serenity" which was based off of the television series "Firefly," and was also in "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" the second season of which I am just getting into as we speak.

Shweeeet! I just recently broke 5000 page views and I just wanted to say thank you all. Sure there are plenty of other people out there with hundreds of thousands of page views, but just knowing that others are seeing and appreciating my work makes me glad.
I'm heading off to Gonzaga University on either the 26th or 27th of August--up in Spokane, Washington--and am very excited. Right now, I'm simply trying to be with friends and family as much as is humanly possible before saying a final farewell. But do not fear! I'll, of course, be bringing the ole sketch book along with me, and the internet is inescapable and ubiquitous, so DA will be updated whenever I find spare time in my schedule.
At the moment, I am doing a coloured pencil recreation of the TURANDOT poster, the art-deco/japonisme feel of which drew my attention. Hopefully, I'll be able to take a decent photo or scan and load it on up to DA.
OH, I've also just recently finished for the first time the entire AVATAR: the last airbender saga, and I must say that Azula is the most badass character. My friends--with whom I was having a marathon--were very annoyed, and kept telling me that she was an evil, crazy bitch. "Exactly!" was my enthusiastic reply. All those other characters are too, "Oh-the-world-is-such-a-beautiful-place-everything-is-perfect!!!!!!!!"
Excuse me while I puke...

So, I just graduated from High School, and am now on summer break. I will be attending Gonzaga University in Spokane, WA, and am very excited. I'll be majoring in Classics, and am very excited. It was a close race between Gonzaga and Holy Cross in Worcester, Mass. but after an extensive pro/con list, Gonzaga won out in the end. (I love pro/con lists...)
Sorry I haven't posted anything recently...I've been just a little bit busy with AP exams and finals and farewell ceremonies.
This summer, I'm not going to be traveling as extensively as last year, though I will be going to New York to see Guys and Dolls on Broadway, and to spend a few weeks in the Sierra's with some friends, and to visit my family in Maryland and Virginia later on. As for now, I'm simply counting down the days until I can get out of my house (parental pressures are becoming a bit desperate as i am to be leaving soon.)
And the weather up in Washington! Beautiful! I can't wait to have a near constant stream of cold weather! No joke, I adore rain and fog and snow and what others generally view as shitty. Not true! It's SO much better than those unbearably sunny days where even when you're wearing next to nothing, you're still stifling....At least when it's cold, you can just bundle up, or snuggle up to a good book or movie with a cup of tea or coffee...Yumm...

So, I'm on a Vivien Leigh tangent right now. I've just finished a drawing of her when she was older, and am planning to do another. I'll try to get the other scanned and submitted before I become too lazy.
I've been watching countless films with her in them, "Gone With the Wind," "A Streetcar Named Desire," "Anna Karenina," "Waterloo Bridge," "Ship of Fools," and so on and so forth. My favorite by far has to be "A Streetcar Named Desire." I've already seen it before, of course, but this year I read it for my English class and fell in love. When we were watching it in class though, nobody but the teacher and I appreciated the acting of both Brando and Leigh. One girl, sitting next to me, kept complaining that Blanche was "annoying," and "ugly."
Vivien Leigh? Ugly?
After the third time of hearing that, I swear, I nearly strangled her. Kids today just don't appreciate those things that are good, and true. They've no dignity or respect. Makes me a bit ashamed to be a part of this generation, to tell the truth. Still, there are those few people who make up for it. (Shot out to all those who still have some sense of appreciation.)

Swwwweeeeeettt. I only had 2 midterms out of six classes, where as some of my poor friends had midterms in all of their classes. So Latin and English were pretty easy. I know I aced the Latin test, as I spoke my teacher the next day, and she had already graded everything. (Which I think is amazing, considering that she teaches four classes and was giving tests in them all. Most teachers I know just wait to the last minute, or give it to you a week overdue. One of the reasons why this teacher is my fav).
We're starting the Inferno of Dante in English--which is one of my favorite books, so I'm glad to actually be able to discuss it in a class.

Oh, and I almost forgot--I am no longer a Rocky Horror Picture Show Virgin. Oh no...And my first time--amazing. It was just two guy friends of mine and me and my house, them dressed as Rocky in nothing but golden underwear, and Dr. Frankenfurter in the whole corset, fishnets get-up. Weird movie, but I loved it anyway. And the music was great.

I'm right in the middle of a drawing of Phaedra. The original is an oil painting by Alexandre Cabanel. I wanted to draw his Cleopatra, but it didn't have enough contrast for me to render it successfully in pencil. (Great sigh).

Hey, it's been forever since I've posted a journal, so I decided to do so. I've been reveling in summer for a while now (almost a month). I've gotten a summer job working at a French cafe--shot out for an income! I've also been doing tons of Community Service , which is required for me to graduate. So far I have about 70 hours. I should only have to do one more week's worth. The good thing about it, though, is the people I've met. One group in particular. I befriended a group of eight students from Osaka, Japan, and even though they're finished with their service, we're keeping in touch and having lunch soon.
Just drew a pic of Hatsumomo from Memoirs of a Geisha. Again, my scanner sucks, but I'll try to mess around with some photos of it as well to post. Hopefully, they'll be better.
Am reading Tale of Genji, atm. By Lady Murasaki Shikibu. Very good, I think. Great insight into a different culture. Soon, I'll be reading Geisha of Gion, by: Mineko Iwasaki, and The Tale of Murasaki, by: Liza Dalby. I'm hoping they're pretty good as well.
Lastly, from July 19-August10 I will be in Europe. I'll be visiting England, France, Germany, Luxembourg, Austria, and the Czech Republic. OOTWAY! I'm stoked.

ok, this one will be short.

I stayed up until 5:30 this morning watching the entire season 4 of Gilmore Girls. It was light when I went to bed. I can't sleep when it's light; what was I thinking? Well, I obviously wasn't since I woke up at 9am, unable to continue my slumber due to the enormous amounts of sunlight streaming through the window positioned conveniently next to my bed. So I got up, and did the only thing that seemed reasonable. I drank coffee. Lots of it. I was so awake, I had to clean. Me. CLEAN. I don't clean; at least, not of my own volition. I also did homework (which I do on a regular basis, of course, though don't enjoy it as much as I did in my euphoric caffeinated state), and downloaded a bunch of music. Beth Hart, Blue Oyster Cult, Black Sabbath, Yes, Big Brother Band, some more Blondie (I finally found 99 Ballons in the original German. score!)

and the title is relevant because I am starting to read Ulysses by James Joyce.

This man is....crazy. Crazier than I, and that is a feat. I try to just read it for the plot. Plot? Oh, you mean books are supposed to have a storyline? How novel.
Or, I'll try to just focus on the details--the references. But then, I miss the plot--which isn't there!

I am in a predicament. I don't know what to do. I think I'll just have to corner my english teacher (who lent me this god-forsaken tome. Damn the day her father even LOOKED at her mother) and force her to tell me what it's about. I mean, come on! Is Stephen Telemachus, is Bloom S&M? Tell me what in the world the kidney symbolizes, or so help me that green fairy they were talking about in Calypso is going down!

Speaking of Latin, we're reading Cicero's IN CATILINAM speech; you know, "O TEMPORA, O MORES! SENATUS HAEC INTELLEGIT. CONSUL VIDET; HIC TAMEN VIVIT..."
I'll spare you the rest, as this goes on for....a long time... 16 pages of a word document, single spaced, multiplied by 33, and you have the first part of it. Then multiply THAT by 4, and you have a grand total of 528 pages! Yay!
o.O
Cicero talked too much.
Anyway! It's a good thing I only have to translate maybe 5 pages of that. Then again, I've seen sentences in Latin go on for 2 and a half pages. No joke. There is no such thing as a run on sentence in Latin. Now if only we could have that in English...Just plug in a few clauses here and there, along with a huge chunk of inderect statements, maybe finish it off with a bit of alliteration and a passive periphrastic. Heaven.

Edit:

magistratibus vim attulerint, rem publicam oppugnarint, cotidie quaeri iubeat:

libidinem comprimendam putet, vos laboriosos existimet,

quibus otiosis ne in communi quidem otio liceat esse.

That's one sentence in Latin. You thought I was joking, didn't you?

It just wouldn't go away...
So I've basically been doing nothing but sleeping, and blowing my nose. (oh and warning: don't make me laugh, I still cough stuff up).
No new artwork, unfortunately...but I'm working on a piece for Latin Convention, so I should have that up in a few weeks (it's an oil painting, so it'll take me a while).
Anyway, I thought my recovery (knock on wood) required a change of avatar and signature.
Oh, and during the time whilst I was indisposed, every part of my body ached (as is common with the flu) but the worst part was, my eyes couldn't move outside of a 20 degree cone, or else they really hurt. And for a while, I was freaking out, 'cause I wasn't in my right mind and I secretely harbored the fear that I would go blind and never be able to read again and if that happened I would just have to kill myself. I mean, can you imagine? A life without....reading...a.....single....book???
*dies*

So obvious, yet so delectable.
Anyway, the AP Junior Writing Examination wasn't as painful as I thought it would be.
For starters, I haven't adhered to my New Years Resolution, like, at all...
Surprised? (Don't answer that..)
Back to school--and already I have a paper for my English Honors class, and in two weeks I have my AP English writing exam. If I don't pass with a 12 or higher, then I don't go on to AP English next year.
O.o
Not happy about that. Very nervous.
So I found the book "Ilium" by Dan Simmons, which I have already read and think it is awesome, but decided to read again. I have just recently finished the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind.
Meh. I didn't think it was anything special. Rating is a 3 out of 5. And that means I'm feeling to generous to give it a 2, but too unimpressed to give it a 4.
As for artwork, I have finished a few things, but again they are just copies of others' work. I haven't had enuogh time to compose anything, and have just been entertaining myself with sketches and such. Latin Convention should be coming up soon, though, so I'll have to do another painting sometime soon.
I hope everyone else is having a good time in the new year.

As for school, junior year is already the toughest year yet, and I'm taking two honors classes and one AP class. I'm smart, sure, but I never said I had common sense.
More great news, two of my cousins from South Africa are staying with us for two weeks. I haven't seen them since I was seven or so, and the change is surprising. They are now smoking hot and have taken over my bedroom. o.O the best part is, they're actually second cousins, once removed, so I feel no shame in getting an eyeful and daydreaming every now and then.
Along with the normal rain, of course. But I must remember, no rain=no rainbow. We stopped in Boston for a change of flight, and Boston turned out to be hell. I now hate that city (or at least their airport) with a passion. For one, I lost my backpack there, which was full of Ireland merchandise, my wallet, K-Swiss, a book I really was looking forward to reading, and my sketchbook...That one hurt.
