The Jewish community of Moldova appeared unfazed Monday night, several hours after the publication of a video showing an Orthodox priest and his followers smashing a Hanukkah menorah set up in the capital Chisinau, using hammers and iron bars.

"ItÂs only politics and things will calm down," said Rabbi Zalman Abelsky, the manager of the Chabad kindergarten in the city. "This was only an attempt to create some noise."

Talking to Ynet, Abelsky added that "this is not a conventional thing, but one must understand that there is a lot of politics involved. There were elections here several months ago, and the parties still don't get along.

"The relations between the ruling party and the opposition parties are not good, and some of the Jews who were present in the candle lighting event belong to the previous party. This is the root of things here. They are creating provocations against each other."

The rabbi, who has been living in the eastern European country for many years, expressed his surprise over the incident and said that anti-Semitic phenomena in Moldova were not common.

"Ever since I've been in Moldova, nothing of the kind has happened. There is no anti-Semitism here. On the contrary, Moldova can set an example to the entire world on this issue, and suddenly something like this happens. The authorities here will make sure that this never happens again. We are continuing the holiday celebrations," he said.

Moldova's Jewish community includes some 12,000 members. About 66,000 Jews lived in Moldova some 20 years ago, but most of them immigrated to Israel.

The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) urged the government of Moldova and the leadership of the Orthodox Church to punish those responsible for uprooting the Hanukkah menorah.

ÂThe Moldovan government and the Orthodox Church must punish the perpetrators of this despicable anti-Semitic crime and send a clear signal to Moldovan society and to the Jewish community that the government and the church will not tolerate anti-Semitism,Â said ADL National Director Abraham H. Foxman.

Veteran journalist Ilana Dayan and Telad Television, a former Channel 2 franchisee, were ordered to pay NIS 300,000 (about $79,000) in damages to IDF Captain R. Tuesday, some five years after airing a show which he was the focus of.

In 2004, R. was charged with obstruction of justice and dead-checking in a case involving his brigade killing 13-year-old Iman al-Hams during an operation which took place near Gaza Strip's Philadelphi Route.

About six weeks after the incident, on the same day R. was indicted, Ilana Dayan's show, "Uvda" ("Fact") aired a special featuring evidence related to the case. R. was acquitted of all charges a year later and then-IDF Spokesperson Ruth Yaron accused Dayan of doctoring the tape heard on the show.

Several months after his acquittal R. filed a damages and slander suit against Dayan, claiming her report was libelous and defamatory. Dayan and Telad claimed that the report "was well balanced and worthy of airtimeÂ the report was cohesive and fair journalistic work."

The Jerusalem District Court found in favor of the plaintiff and ordered Dayan and Telad to pay him NIS 300,000 in damages, as well as NIS 80,000 (about $21,000) in legal expenses. The court also ordered Dayan to air a segment about R.'s acquittal and clarify that the original segment had sent the wrong message.

"While there was no malice in the case, there was negligence and a grave one at that. We must warn and deter the journalistic public against such potential libel and clarify that they cannot use individual cases in order to send a message. The need to provoke discussion and send a message cannot come at the expense of one's reputation," said the court.

"We must also warn against the unbearable contempt for the purity of the criminal process; against the liberties taken by journalists, who publish evidence during an ongoing trial and disguise it as their public and moral duty.

"Since these things have already been done by the show and by such a reputable journalist, it is only fitting that the court awards such high damages."

It has been 1,255 days since Gilad Shalit Kidnapped for his patrol on the Israeli Gaza border. He was not attacking anyone just grading the civilian population.

Since he was stolen we have gotten 2-3 letters, one audio recording and on video recording.
While the convicted mass murders the Hamas has no shame to ask for have regular yet regulated communications with there families.

Gilad Shalit (Hebrew: ×××¢× ×©×××â, born 28 August 1986) is an Israeli soldier who was captured[2] on 25 June 2006 by Palestinian militants in a cross border raid. He was abducted[3] through the Kerem Shalom crossing (in Israel) and has been held as a prisoner of war in the Gaza Strip by Hamas since. Shalit, a soldier of the IDF's Armor Corps, held the rank of corporal at the time of the incident but has since been promoted to staff sergeant.[1]
He became the first Israeli soldier captured[4][5] by Palestinian militants since Nachshon Wachsman in 1994.[6] Shalit holds French citizenship, a fact that encouraged France and the European Union to be involved to some extent in the efforts to release him.[7] Recently, he also received Italian citizenship.[8][9][10][11][12][13]
Hamas has refused requests from the Red Cross (ICRC) to allow visits by the ICRC. Several human rights organizations have stated that the terms and conditions of Shalit's detention are contrary to international humanitarian law. In exchange for his release, Hamas is demanding the release of 1,000 Palestinian prisoners held in Israel, including many convicted of deadly terrorist attacks against Israelis.[14][15][16][17][18][19][20][21] The United Nations Fact Finding Mission on the Gaza Conflict, which released its report on September 2009, called for Shalit to be released.[22]

Shalit was born on 28 August 1986 in Nahariya, Israel, and was raised from the age of two in Mitzpe Hila in the Western Galilee. He graduated with distinction from Manor Kabri High School. Shalit began military service in the Israel Defense Forces in July 2005, and "despite a low medical profile, he preferred to serve in a combat unit, following his elder brother Yoel into the armored corps."[23] He holds dual Israeli and French citizenship.[24]

Early on Sunday morning, 25 June 2006, Shalit was captured by Palestinian militants who ambushed an Israeli army post on the Israeli side of the southern Gaza Strip border after crossing through an underground tunnel near the Kerem Shalom border. During the morning attack, two Palestinian militants[25] and two IDF soldiers were killed and three others wounded, aside from Shalit, who, reportedly, suffered a broken left hand and a light shoulder wound after his tank was hit with a Rocket propelled grenade (RPG).[26]

Jolene and I try to swim every day at the pool Â it helps keep us sane. Wednesday, however, the weather was so beautiful that we decided to walk along the beachfront Promenade instead of swimming. Without traffic, it is about a 20-minute drive to the beach (soon to be much shorter when the Carmel tunnel - [link] - is opened). There are coffee shops and restaurants all along the Promenade, most of them fairly dingy, but the view makes up for that. In short order we were sitting "Etzel Eliyahu" and having our pre-walk coffee, enjoying the sea air and the rhythmic pounding of the waves on the sand. It was at that point that I looked out on the horizon and saw an IDF "satil" (=sephinat tilim=missile boat) on patrol, keeping us safe. The discordant nature of the scene struck me forcefully: the lovely promenade, the walkers, the backgammon players, the coffee shops -- all made possible by teenagers giving up 3 years of their lives (and sometimes giving up their very lives) and literally putting themselves in harm's way so that we could enjoy a walk on the beach and an excellent cup of coffee. Nothing here is simple, not even a cup of coffee.

Human Rights Watch to Hamas: Probe war crimes

JERUSALEM (JTA) -- Human Rights Watch called on Hamas to open an investigation into alleged war crimes.

The organization sent a letter Tuesday to Gaza Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh calling on Hamas to launch a "credible investigation" into the alleged violations highlighted in the United Nations' Goldstone report, according to reports.

Hamas replied in a statement that it would carry out the recommendations contained in the Goldstone report and added that the call by Human Rights Watch should be directed at Israel.

The report, which accused Israel and Hamas of war crimes and possible crimes against humanity, called on both sides to investigate their actions during the Gaza war within six months.

The report was adopted last week by the Human Rights Council and sent on to the U.N. Security Council.

Human Rights Watch founder Robert Bernstein in an opinion piece published Tuesday in The New York Times wrote that the group in recent years has focused too much on alleged Israeli violations while choosing to ignore those in neighboring countries.

ÂHuman Rights Watch has lost critical perspective on a conflict in which Israel has been repeatedly attacked by Hamas and Hezbollah, organizations that go after Israeli citizens and use their own people as human shields,Â he said.

PMO: 20 female prisoners to be freed for proof Schalit is alive

The security cabinet on Wednesday morning approved the release of 20 female Palestinian prisoners and detainees in exchange for an up-to-date video tape of kidnapped IDF soldier Gilad Schalit, in the first concrete move toward freeing the soldier since he was kidnapped over three years ago.

The decision to release the Palestinians came upon the recommendation of the team working for Schalit's release, headed by Hagai Hadas.

The release of the Palestinians, and receipt of the tape, are scheduled to take place on Friday.

According to the suggestion that came from the German mediator, working together with the Egyptians, Israel will get recent and unequivocal proof of Schalit's condition.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu congratulated Hadas and the team on their "professional work" away from the spotlight, and said, "it is important that the whole world will know that Gilad Schalit is alive and well, and that Hamas is responsible for his fate and well being."

A statement issued by the Prime Minister's Office said the cabinet decided to respond positively to this initiative as a "confidence building measure within the framework of the indirect negotiations" with Hamas over Schalit.

The names of the Palestinians to be released will be published later Wednesday by the Justice Ministry, and their names will be posted on Israel Prison Service's website.

A senior source in the PMO said Hadas was in constant contact with the Schalit family, and that they were informed of the developments. "The negotiations are still expected to be long and hard," the source said, "and we will continue to take concrete steps to bring Gilad home as quickly as possible."

The sources cautioned that this development did not mean that the sides were on the cusp of an agreement, but that this was part of a larger agreement that was still a long way off.

In Gaza, Abu Obeida, spokesman for Hamas' militant wing, confirmed that 20 female prisoners were expected to be returned in the coming days. He made no mention of a videotape of Schalit, saying only that Hamas would respond by "clarifying his fate."

A senior Egyptian official involved in the mediation said the move was designed to create "an atmosphere of trust."

"There is no doubt that this step will support the efforts of all sides to solve the problem," he said, speaking on condition of anonymity under security guidelines.

Yom Kippur (Hebrew: ××Ö¹× ×Ö´Ö¼×¤Ö¼×Ö¼×¨â, IPA: [ËjÉm kiˈ

ur]), also known as the Day of Atonement, is the most solemn of the Jewish holidays. Its central themes are atonement and repentance. Jews traditionally observe this holy day with an approximately 25-hour period of fasting and intensive prayer, often spending most of the day in synagogue services. Yom Kippur completes the annual period known in Judaism as the High Holy Days.
Yom Kippur is the tenth day of the month of Tishrei. According to Jewish tradition, God inscribes each person's fate for the coming year into a "book" on Rosh Hashanah and waits until Yom Kippur to "seal" the verdict. During the Days of Awe, a Jew tries to amend his or her behavior and seek forgiveness for wrongs done against God (bein adam leMakom) and against other human beings (bein adam lechavero). The evening and day of Yom Kippur are set aside for public and private petitions and confessions of guilt (Vidui). At the end of Yom Kippur, one considers one's self absolved by God.
The Yom Kippur prayer service includes several unique aspects. One is the actual number of prayer services. Unlike a regular day, which has three prayer services (Ma'ariv, the evening prayer; Shacharit, the morning prayer; and Mincha, the afternoon prayer), or a Shabbat or Yom Tov, which have four prayer services (Ma'ariv; Shacharit; Musaf, the additional prayer; and Mincha), Yom Kippur has five prayer services (Ma'ariv; Shacharit; Musaf; Mincha; and Ne'ilah, the closing prayer). The prayer services also include a public confession of sins (Vidui) and a reenactment of the special Yom Kippur avodah (service) of the Kohen Gadol in the Holy Temple in Jerusalem.
Yom Kippur is considered one of the holiest of Jewish holidays and it is observed by many secular Jews who may not observe other holidays. Many secular Jews fast and attend synagogue on Yom Kippur, where the number of worshippers attending is often double or triple the normal attendance. Many other Jews choose not to fast[1].

Mordechai Shatner (Hebrew: ××¨××× ×©×× ×¨â, 1904 Â 1964) was a Zionist activist and a signatory of the Israeli declaration of independence.

A member of kibbutz Ein Harod, Shatner worked in Europe between the First and Second World Wars rescuing Jews, a period during which he met Adolf Eichmann. After the outbreak of World War II he worked for aliyah from England.
After returning to Mandate Palestine and joined the Vaad Leumi, working on national infrastructure. He campaigned against the treatment of Jewish prisoners held by the British, and was arrested during the Operation Agatha and imprisoned in the Atlit detainee camp, Rafah and Latrun. During that time he served as the representative of the Jewish detainees to the British authorities.
On 14 May 1948, Shatner was one of the people to sign the Israeli declaration of independence, and joined the Provisional State Council. After independence he worked on the development of Jerusalem, was one of the founders of Yad Vashem, and was also a member of the committee that appointed judges to the Supreme Court of Israel.
Shatner served as the CEO of the Department of Industry and Commerce, and was in charge of the financial market. He was also an interim supervisor of the real estate of the Arabs who fled Israel during the Independence War of 1948. He was the main figure in the foundation of the Israeli town of Nazareth Illit and the Wingate Sports Center that was named after his friend Orde Wingate.
The Shatner Centre in Jerusalem was named after him. His son, David, is an expert on water and the borders of Israel and was in the delegations that brokered peace agreements with Jordan, Syria and the Palestinian National Authority.

"The comparison between those who pursue terror and terror victims is inconceivable," a source close to Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Tuesday, after the release of the Goldstone Report Â the UN inquest into the Israeli offensive in Gaza in early 2009.
The report, added the source, "Not only rewards terror it also encourages it... The defense establishment is gearing to give legal counsel to IDF officers and the proper legal and diplomatic steps are already underway in order to render this report invalid."
The United Nations said the investigation led by former South African judge Goldstone concluded that "Israel committed actions amounting to war crimes, possibly crimes against humanity," during its Dec. 27-Jan. 18 military operations in the Palestinian territories.
The global body said the report "concludes there is also evidence that Palestinian armed groups committed war crimes, as well as possibly crimes against humanity," by firing rockets into southern Israel.

The report accuses Israel of violating international law and possibly committing war crimes during Operation Cast Lead. Similar accusations, however, are also made regarding Hamas Â the report condemns the groups' rocket fire on Israel, as well as IDF soldier Gilad Shalit's captivity, which the report said does not coincide with conventions meant to ensure treatment of prisoners of war.
Government sources told Ynet that while both Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Barak viewed the findings gravely, they have decided to no issue any formal response at this time. Netanyahu instructed all the ministers to do the same.
The prime minister intends to study the 575-page report Â and its possible repercussions Â thoroughly; especially those pertaining to possible UN and International Crimes Court (ICC) actions.
Jerusalem's main concern at this time is that a report by a seemingly ephemeral, biased body, will harm international relations. Netanyahu wished to refute the report completely.
'New level of Israel-bashing'
Minister of Information Yuli Edelstein said the report "exceeded the limits of Israel-bashing that we've become accustomed to. Making such allegations disguised as '

rotecting human rights' is more than a stretch."
The Foreign Ministry issued the following statement: "(The report) fails to mention the word 'terrorists' and the same Hamas operatives, who kidnapped Gilad Shalit, are lauded for their support of the committee's work.

"The fact that the operation followed years of incessant rocket fire on civilians, as well as the wide support it was given by the Israeli public, is not mentioned at allÂ This report sends a very troubling message to terror groups, according to which the cynical use of civilian suffering for political gain actually bears fruit."

The ministry also protested the contradiction between Goldstone's assertion that the committee "did not reach any legal conclusions" and the fact that the "report was fashioned as a legal document and included explicit allegations."
The ministry further admonished the committee for not dismissing members who made anti-Israeli statements.

Lt. Assaf Ramon died in the crash near the Israeli community of P'nei Chever in the southern Hebron Hills, the IDF said. The F-16 crashed "during a routine flight as part of the advanced pilot training course," the statement said.

The wreckage of the plane was found by search and rescue forces, the IDF said.

Ramon was posthumously promoted to captain, officials said.

He was the son of Col. Ilan Ramon, Israel's first astronaut.

The elder Ramon died February 1, 2003, with six others aboard the space shuttle Columbia when it broke apart over Texas, minutes before it would have landed in Florida.

Maj. Gen. Ido Nehushtan, Israel air force commander, launched an investigation into the crash, the IDF said. All F-16 training flights were canceled until further notice.

Nehushtan and Maj. Gen. Avi Zamir, head of the Personnel Branch, "visited the home of Rona Ramon and informed her of the tragic event," the IDF said. Rona Ramon is Assaf Ramon's mother and the widow of Ilan Ramon.

The younger Ramon excelled in an IAF pilot training course last month, received a presidential honor, and was given his pilot's wings by President Shimon Peres, Israeli military officials said.

Funeral arrangements were pending.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu spoke of the death of Assaf Ramon on Monday morning, having returned from Egypt the previous evening. Ramon died Sunday afternoon when his Israel Air Force F-16 crashed in the South Hebron Hills, and will be buried on Monday at 4 p.m. at the military cemetery in Nahalal next to his father, Ilan Ramon, who died in the Columbia space shuttle disaster six years ago.

"There's something in the story of the Ramon family that symbolizes Jewish glory and the tragedy of this nation," the prime minister told Army Radio on Monday morning. "The Ramon family is a symbol and an example for the generations, which represents the Israeli identity."

"I got the news when I was on the way to Egypt," Netanyahu said, adding that he had told Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak the sad news upon his arrival at the presidential palace in Cairo "Mubarak said, 'I know how hard it is to lose a son, or a grandson,'" the prime minister said. The Egyptian president's grandson died suddenly in May.

The prime minister had words of praise for both Assaf and his father, and said that he had called the IAF cadet's mother, Rona Ramon, immediately upon his return to Israel later on Sunday. He recalled attending Ramon's pilot graduation course in June this year, and said "it's very emotional."

Jews who escaped Nazis as kids recreate train trip

LONDON Â Elderly Holocaust survivors were reunited at a London railway station Friday with the man who saved them on the eve of World War II Â a now 100-year-old former stockbroker who rescued hundreds of Jewish children from Nazi-occupied Czechoslovakia.
"For me he is like a father," said Joseph Ginat, who was 10 when he traveled to England in August 1939 as part of the "kindertransports" organized by Nicholas Winton.
"He gave us life," said the 80-year-old Ginat, whose brother and two sisters were also among the 669 children carried to safety. Their mother died in the Auschwitz concentration camp.
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the rescue, a vintage train carrying some two dozen survivors along with members of their families, pulled into London's Liverpool Street Station on Friday after a three-day journey by rail and ferry from the Czech capital, Prague.
There, they were greeted by Winton. Frail and in a wheelchair, he stood briefly with the help of a cane and shook hands with the former evacuees as they stepped off the train.
"It's wonderful to see you all after 70 years," a beaming Winton told the survivors, some of whom he was meeting for the first time. "Don't leave it quite so long until we meet here again."
Some gave him flowers, while others posed for photographs as a band played festive music. Among them was Thomas Bermann, who clutched the wrinkled papers he carried to freedom as he stood for a photo in front of the train.
"I am very glad he had the strength and energy to meet us. It is emotionally very important," Ginat said.
Winton, whose parents were of German Jewish descent, was a 29-year-old clerk at the London Stock Exchange when he traveled to what was then Czechoslovakia in the winter of 1938 at the invitation of a friend working at the British Embassy.
Alarmed by the influx of refugees from the Sudetenland region recently annexed by Germany, the young man feared Â correctly Â that Czechoslovakia soon would be invaded by the Nazis and Jewish residents would be sent to concentration camps.
He immediately began organizing a way to get Jewish children out of the country.
Winton persuaded British officials to accept the children Â as long as foster homes were found and a 50-pound guarantee was paid for each one Â and set about fundraising and organizing the trip. He arranged eight trains to carry children through Germany to Britain in the months before the outbreak of war.
The youngsters were sent to foster homes in England, and a few to Sweden. Few saw their parents again.
The largest evacuation was scheduled for Sept. 3, 1939, the day Britain declared war on Germany. That train never left, and almost none of the 250 children trying to flee that day survived the war.
Winton never spoke about the heroic rescue, not even to his wife, and his story did not emerge until 1988, when she found correspondence referring to the prewar events.
"My wife didn't know about it for 40 years after our marriage, but there are all kinds of things you don't talk about, even with your family," Winton said in 1999. "Everything that happened before the war actually didn't feel important in the light of the war itself."
Winton's wife persuaded him to have his story documented, and a film about his heroism, "Nicholas Winton Â The Power of Good," won an International Emmy Award in 2002. The allies and axis powers at the dawn of the German invasion of Poland.
1: The Republic of China and the Empire of Japan are involved in the early stages of the third year of armed conflict between them during the Second Sino-Japanese War. The war is in what will be known as the "Second Period." The "Second Period" starts in October 1938 and ends in December 1941. This conflict would eventually be swept up into WWII when Japan joins the Axis and China the Allies
1: The Invasion of Poland by Nazi Germany begins at 4:45 a.m. with the German Air Force (Luftwaffe) attacking several targets in Poland. The Luftwaffe launches air attacks against KrakÃ³w, ÅÃ³dÅº, and Warsaw. Within five minutes of the Luftwaffe attacks, the German Navy (Kriegsmarine) orders the old Battleship Schleswig-Holstein to open fire on the Polish military transit depot at Westerplatte in the Free City of Danzig on the Baltic Sea. By 8:00 a.m., troops of the German Army (Wehrmacht Heer), still without a formal declaration of war issued, launch an attack near the Polish town of Mokra.
1: Estonia, Finland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, and Switzerland declare their neutrality.
1: The British government declares general mobilisation of the British Armed Forces and begins evacuation plans in preparation of German air attacks.

Israel aghast at Swedish report on IDF

The Foreign Ministry responded furiously on Tuesday to a story in Sweden's largest circulation daily, Aftonbladet, that accused IDF soldiers of abducting Palestinians to steal their organs, saying this was a grotesque throwback to the blood libels of the Middle Ages.
Foreign Ministry spokesman Yigal Palmor characterized the story as "racist hysteria at its worst."
"No one should tolerate such a demonizing piece of medieval blood libel that surely encourages hate crimes against Jews," Palmor said. "This is a shame to freedom of expression, and all Swedes should reject it unconditionally."
Israel's embassy in Stockholm was expected to issue a sharp denunciation.
In the story, headlined "They plunder the organs of our sons," and accompanied by a gruesome photograph, Palestinians are quoted as saying IDF soldiers kidnapped their sons and stole organs.
Haaretz quoted Donald Bostrom as writing the following:
"'Our sons are used as involuntary organ donors,' relatives of Khaled from Nablus said to me, as did the mother of Raed from Jenin, as well as the uncles of Machmod and Nafes from Gaza, who all had disappeared for a few days and returned by night, dead and autopsied."
The article makes reference to the recent arrests in New Jersey of several US Jews, including rabbis, for a number of alleged crimes, including brokering the sale of organs for transplant.
The story also cites allegations of similar instances of organ-snatching in 1992, during the first intifada.
The Foreign Ministry was not the only party aghast at the story, and smelling the stench of anti-Semitism. A competing newspaper, Sydsvenskan, ran an op-ed on the story under the headline "Antisemitbladet," in an obvious reference to Aftonbladet's name.
"Whispers in the dark. Anonymous sources. Rumors," wrote Swedish columnist Mats SkogkÃ¤r. "That is all it takes. After all, we all know what they [the Jews] are like, don't we: inhuman, hardened. Capable of anything. Now all that remains is the defense, equally predictable: 'Anti-Semitism? No, no, just criticism of Israel.'"

Sweden newspaper: Israel kills Palestinians, harvests their organs

A leading Swedish newspaper reported this week that Israeli soldiers are abducting Palestinians in order to steal their organs, a claim that prompted furious condemnation and accusations of anti-Semitic blood libel from a rival publication.

"They plunder the organs of our sons," read the headline in Sweden's largest daily newspaper, the left-leaning Aftonbladet, which devoted a double spread in its cultural section to the article.

The report quotes Palestinian claims that young men from the West Bank and Gaza Strip had been seized by the Israel Defense Forces, and their bodies returned to the families with missing organs.

If you have gotten comments from me with really bad spelling, I am sorry. Google Chrome decided that since my I.P. is in Israel I want to check my Hebrew spelling, and use Hebrew spelling. Now for some reason, working on the computer is an English thing for me. Anyway, checking my spelling in Hebrew is rather silly since the language is phonetic and my learning disability doesn't kick in the language of Moses. I was amazed that my spelling suddenly got so much better, I mean just writing this, I have to go back and fix two or three words a sentence!

The Graffiti on our walls...

I have only been a Premium member for 3 years I think. In all this time, I have only one grave issue to present, and it seems completely dismissed by the powers that be on the rare occasions when I bring it up in any formal way. For the most part this is such a vibrant cohesion of artists and their work that it is a great source of inspiration for me to just look at what others do. I get so many wonderful ideas just by hanging around, and I love that aspect of dA!

But...

It seems so incompatible that the greater umbrella of ART could turn a blind eye to HATE, but over these years I have seen that to be our greatest inconsistency. I have seen 'artists' of hatemongering be accepted without censure or comment. I have several friends I have met from all over the world here, and one of them has been anonymously targeted on various occasions by those who hate her race. Yet when complaints by her, and by me, have been passed up the chain, they just seem to disappear into the void. In her case she has been told that these posts and intrusions into her right to exist as a human on this planet are NOT considered to be offensive or abusive by the administration of dA.

She is Jewish.

They are Supremists, Nazis specifically.

If a black man can become president of the largest economic engine on the planet and bring intense focus to the issues of race with his triumphant election as evidence of racism's weakening hold upon humanity, does it not make sense that the world's largest art community get behind the effort to at least keep that hateful, spiteful arrogance from being permitted to roam freely within dA's uplifting hallways? They are like a foul and rancid form of graffiti upon our art, and yet the official position is that they have the right to spray paint our walls and our art because 'graffiti is art too!' I've seen graffiti, but please excuse me. Nazisim is NOT ART, it is only hate uncloaked. If they cannot remain civil and respectful, or at least pretend in the realm of a larger community to hold their foul and hateful spewings, they should be shown the door.
It is an issue I have been on the verge of removing myself from the community over, because I abhor racism of any kind. It speaks of the right to judge others for the shallowest of perceptions, and has utterly no basis in fact. I would be most interested in seeing some official response in support of the rejection of racism, but I do not have much hope. It is our one greatest black eye. Can we get that fixed?

Indeed he was democratically elected, but what I speak of isn't about elected representatives who go from "messiah" to totalitarian dictator. But I'll make something of it. I'm only talking about our individual rights that cannot be taken away. Whether it be speech, whether we approve or not, shouldn't be regulated by majority because eventually we will all be regulated and monitored for what we say. Whether it be the right to bear arms because without them we have no way to fight in the event that a tyrannical government arises to harm the people. America was meant to be a constitutional republic, where rights aren't subject to be taken away by majority. People have forgotten individual liberty and replaced with with majority rule or group rights. "I pledge allegiance to the REPUBLIC..."
The people of nazi germany were free before Hitler. They were a democratic society. There were different cultures, gay rights organizations and more. Free speech is almost always the first thing to go for "undesirables" in a closing of society... second comes the god-given right to protect yourselves, the right to bear arms goes next. Jews, gypsies, and others were put under laws to restrict them from arms... we all see where that left the Jews of Germany and more.
When someone speaks of things that you find undesirable, you should either disagree and ignore... or find a way to be amused or enlightened. Obviously the user felt strongly about the subject. He went about it the wrong way, obviously. Maybe a bit extreme and no facts. I personally think there are wrongs on both sides of the Israeli and Palestinian struggle. For one, who really has the right to go into a country, claim birthright to kill and displace people in the name of religion? Mostly by Ashkenazim Jews. Jews who were from Europe, originally atheists, who decided to turn Judaism from spiritual to material state. The Torah forbids Jews to have an official country because they are in exile. Zionism isn't not real Judaism. I would would rather not put full support into a country that supports an apartheid state. Much more when they get 6 billion dollars of American tax payer money just to exist. Free living, tanks, jets, weapons, and more just to exist. While Palestinians makes noise and create rockets that hit the side of a road or mistakingly hit a car. of course there are coward suicide bombers, but that's another story. But, there are many people starving, losing jobs, losing homes here in America. We can't afford 6 billion dollars a year for nothing. Not forgetting to mention that there are many Israelis or American/Israel dual citizens who hold positions in our American government and own the television stations that we see. Therefor, any questions that you can ask or any facts that you pull up are quickly dubbed anti-semitic. I will probably be called anti-semitic just for typing this but that's because noone knows who I am personally and that's the state in which we're living in now. I personally don't like the Muslim faith, but it's there religion, not the people. There is good in everyone and I only want peace but not just people for Israeli people, peace for both sides. I don't like to see children blown up by Israeli cluster bombs in crowded Gaza Strip areas, or white phosphorous burning people to the bone. Reporters, relief workers, Palestinians getting ran over by tanks or shot by soldiers on power trips. Or being harassed just for being a Palestinian as if they can control who they are. Yes you are reading my Journal..no need to adjust your screens. Just put in the word Iran into the search option on D.A. and start faving art work coming form Iran, they need the moral support. VenusÂ hand gesture in the famous painting by Titian, or the innkeeper of BalzacÂs ÂOld Father GoriotÂ are fine examples of non-verbal expressions.The human verbal language is responsible for expressing patterns of thought and cognitive references. It is a structured and deliberate channel, based on facts. Our body language, on the other hand, resolves to channel and to express emotions spontaneously, with no conscious control. This article discusses the borderline between the human and the canine non-verbal languages. In the field of psychology, through its diverse therapeutic methods, researchers would refer to the different aspects of their patientsÂ non-verbal demeanor as part of their personality. It was, however only in the early 20th century that these aspects were studied in research. Through the years 1915-1945 a large number of psychologists conducted experiments focusing on the correlation between facial expressions and its emotional denotation. At that period, the subject was further studied by expert researchers in Anthropology. Although it is widely accepted today, some restrictions arise regarding the influential importance of non-verbal messages, much due to the exceeding popularity of body-language alertness. Since popular sources are quite accessible nowadays, superficial or simplistic interpretations of gestures are likely to occur.
Non-verbal communications in dogs:
The canine non-verbal manner of communication is highly evolved. It is argued that a dog communicates using its body. Its tail, eyes, ears and mouth converse with us, and the posture of the body relays further information to the message (Koren, 1994). The following patterns will exemplify:
The Tail
A dogÂs tail position indicates its social status and mood. Certain parameters should be taken into account to understand the tailÂs responsiveness, such as its natural pose, that differs among dogs. For instance, if the tail is not stiff, and posed near-vertically, it indicates a listening mode, as looking to see what is happening. A stiff and vertical tail would attest for the presence of a threat or invasion, as though looking to see ÂwhoÂs boss around hereÂ.
Ears
Like the tail, ears must be examined in relation to their natural state. It would be hard to interpret a message when the ears are either very short or very long. Erect ears or ears leaning forward mean attentiveness or reassessment of a new situation. Should this position be accompanied with a slight nod of the head and an open mouth, it then marks a possible interest in the occurrence, saying ÂI find this interestingÂ or ÂIÂm not following throughÂ. Exposure of the teeth, on the other hand is a sign of aggression in a challenging situation. Ears drawn backwards flat against the skull relay the dog is afraid or self-defending. This expresses suspicion and might indicate hesitation, aggression or both combined.
Eyes
The eyes express two main themes: Domination and Control. Looking into oneÂs eye is challenging, as saying ÂWho do you think you are?Â. Yom Hazikaron (Memorial Day, Hebrew: ××× ××××¨×× ××××× ××¢×¨×××ª ××©×¨×× ××× ×¤××¢× ×¤×¢××××ª ×××××â, lit. Israeli Fallen Soldiers and Victims of Terrorism Remembrance Day) is an Israeli national day.

Yom Hazikaron is observed on the 4th day of the month of Iyar of the Hebrew calendar, always preceding the next day's celebrations of Israel Independence Day, Yom Ha-Atzma'ut, on the 5th day of Iyar, the anniversary of the Proclamation of the State of Israel in 1948. Both holidays may be observed one day or two earlier (the 3rd and 4th, or the 2nd and 3rd, of Iyar) if either the 4th or the 5th happens to occur on a Saturday, the Shabbat. Similarly, both days are moved one day later if Yom Hazikaron would fall out on Sunday.

This holiday honors veterans and fallen military personnel of the Israel Defense Forces and other Israeli security services who died in the modern Arab Israeli conflict, as well as fallen members of the Jewish Brigade, and of the various paramilitary organization of the Yishuv, such as the Haganah and Irgun, who died before the establishment of Israel (starting from 1860, when Mishkenot Sha'ananim, the first modern Jewish settlement outside the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem, was built). Yom Hazikaron also commemorates civilians murdered by acts of terrorism. As of Yom Hazikaron 2008, Israel honors the memory of 22,437 people who were killed in the line of duty (including non combat related deaths during military service), an addition of 132 since 2007, and 1,635 civilian terror victims [1].

The day includes many national ceremonies for fallen soldiers in which senior public officials and military officers are present. The day opens the preceding evening at 20:00 (8:00 pm), given that in the Hebrew calendar system days begin at sunset, with a one-minute siren during which most Israelis stand in silence, commemorating the fallen and showing respect. Many national-religious (religious-Zionist) Jews say prayers for the souls of the fallen soldiers at this time as well. The official ceremony to mark the opening of the day takes place at the Western Wall, at which time the flag of Israel is lowered to half mast.

A two-minute siren is heard the following morning, at 11:00, which marks the opening of the official memorial ceremonies and private remembrance gathering which are held at each cemetery where soldiers are buried. The day officially draws to a close between 19:00 - 20:00 (7-8:00 p.m.) in the official ceremony of Israel Independence Day on Mount Herzl, when the flag of Israel is returned to full mast.

Scheduling the memorial day right before the independence day is intended to remind people of the price paid for independence and of what was achieved with the soldiers' sacrifice. This transition shows the importance of this day among Israelis, most of whom have served in the armed forces or have a connection with people who were killed during their military service.

Historically, the date was chosen because during the first year of Israel's existence politicians were not able to agree on a date for a memorial day. As the year came to a close without a decision, the memorial day was celebrated on Israel's first independence day (1949), and the same arrangement was made the following year (1950). Celebrating the holidays together proved difficult (both logistically and emotionally), so in 1951, following the recommendation of a public commission, the memorial day was moved one day back. This arrangement was enacted as a law in 1963.

Certain sects of Haredi Jews do not attribute any specific significance to this day, however other Haredim serve in the armed forces and observe the memorial day.

Is all criticism of Israel anti-Semitic? Obviously not (otherwise all Israelis would be anti-Semites). Anti-Zionism, however, in the famous words of Lawrence Summers, is always anti-Semitic in consequence, if not in intent. By anti-Zionism I mean the principled rejection of the right of the Jewish people to have a state in the Land of Israel. In my talk I will examine one version of that rejection, namely, the claim that the Jews do not constitute a nation. I will focus my critique on the ideologically charged rejection of all nationalism by Eric Hobsbawm and the ignorance of Jewish texts displayed by Shlomo Zand. I will try to understand why this form of anti-Semitism seems so attractive to the Left.

A terrorist carrying an axe attacked and a seven year-old child in the West Bank settlement of Bat Ayin in Gush Etzion Thursday noon. The boy sustained moderate injuries.
At least one other person was wounded in the incident.
According to the police, the terrorists managed to escape the scene. Last month two police officers were shot dead near the community of Masua in the Jordan Valley. Three months ago an Israeli citizen was severely injured after Palestinian opened fire at his car east of Ramallah.

A War on Truth about Gaza

On Wednesday February 11th, the Middle East Center and Department of English at the University of Pennsylvania co-sponsored a panel discussion entitled "War on Gaza: A Teach-in and Discussion with Penn Faculty and members of the Penn Community." It brought together academics and local activists to a forum for discussion and expression critical of the "Israeli Occupation," to paraphrase Ania Loomba, the panel's chairman and a Penn English professor.
The event attracted a large crowd of students and members of the Philadelphia community, with many sitting on the floor and standing for the entire event, which lasted over two hours. The doors to the outside remained open to provide ventilation for the overcrowded room; not only did passing sirens blare, but a dog wandered into the room off the street, lending the event a fleeting hilarity in light of the topic being discussed.
The first speaker, history professor Lawrence Davidson of West Chester University, chargedÂwithout citing any supporting evidenceÂthat Israel's military actions in the Gaza Strip in December 2008 and January 2009 were planned in mid-2007 in order to "[destroy] the Palestinian National Authority's (PNA) militant rivals there [i.e. Hamas], and eventually bring it under the a PNA cooperating with Israel."
After Israel had installed its PNA "proxy" in Gaza, Davidson asserted that it "might [re-introduce]Âits colonists" to the area. He continued with a conspiratorial reading of Israel's 2005 disengagement from the Gaza Strip, which involved the complete withdrawal of military force and forced removal of settler communities: "It seemed wise to get the colonists who were there out of the area, as their evacuation would allow the entire strip to be turned into a free fire zone."
Staying the course, Davidson blamed Israel for Palestinian violence: "Whatever Palestinian violence Israel suffers is the reactionÂto conditions thatÂthe Israelis themselves have created." Utterly ignoring Israel's efforts at negotiating a peace settlement over the past 20 years, Davidson blamed Israel for the failure of the peace process: "Since 1988 the PLO has been seeking to negotiate a two state solutionÂbut the Israelis never intend to allow any of these sorts of compromises. To do so means abandoning their colonization projects, which are worth more to them than peace."
In a discussion of the Israeli air and sea blockade of Gaza, Davidson trivialized the murder of 10 Israelis (9 of whom were civilians) in 2008 by Palestinian rocket fire from Gaza: "Hamas responded to this situation by increasing the number ofÂrockets fired into IsraelÂ.These did little damage but were symbolic acts of resistance."
When a student critical of Davidson asked a question and commented, "Every death, I feelÂdoesn't matter Israeli or Palestinian, every death is terrible and it pains me when I read about it," Davidson interrupted the student and yelled, "How seriously?" This outburst drew even the ire of his fellow panelists, who turned to Davidson with looks of shock on their faces.
University of Pennsylvania political scientist Anne Norton, who spoke next, alluded to Israel's historical role as a refuge for Jewish survivors of the Holocaust in a reprehensible attempt to accuse Israel of committing genocide:

Two messages in as many days! Don't worry, I won't make a habit of it.

(a) scary: I had lunch today with a prominent physician at Rambam Hospital
here in Haifa (how can one not love a city whose major hospital is called
'Rambam'? [my father is a Rambam scholar [link]
[link]). I asked him about the huge excavation in what used to be the
hospital's parking lot. It turns out that the hospital is building a
2,000-bed subterannean hospital, meant to be secure against ABC (atomic,
biological, chemical) attack and capable of sustaining itself for three
days with absolutely no contact with the outside world. The reason for this
is one simple four-letter word: "Iran." I'm a pretty laid-back fellow, but
this gave even me a start.

There is no sane and moral alternative to the (albeit difficult) two-state
solution. Anyone who supports the so-called one state solution is either a
knave or a fool or both. Creating one state of all its citizens between
the
Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea can have only one outcome: the
creation of yet another authoritarian Islamic "Republic." The right of
national self-determination, it will turn out, will thus be guaranteed to
all peoples but the Jews. In the new state Jews and Christians will at
best
be reduced to the status of dhimmis, tolerated religious (not ethnic)
minorities subject to oppressive restrictions. Women will be forced behind
the veil, gays will be persecuted. Anyone perceptive enough to realize
this
and who nonetheless supports the idea is a knave. Anyone who does not
realize this is a fool. There is not a single Arab-majority state in the
world in which non-Arabs actually enjoy full civil rights. There is not a
single Muslim-majority state in the world in which non-Muslims actually
enjoy full equality. An Arab-Muslim State born out of a century of
conflict
is not likely - to put it mildly - to be the only exception to these sad
generalizations.

What is to be done? One option is to absorb the West Bank into Israel.
This
can lead to only one of two consequences: the end of Israel as a
democratic

I am a Zionist.

I believe that the Jewish people established itself in the Land of Israel, albeit somewhat late. Had it listened to the alarm clock, there would have been no Holocaust, and my dead grandfather Â the one I was named after Â would have been able to dance a last waltz with grandma on the shores of the Yarkon River.

I am a Zionist.

Hebrew is the language I use to thank the Creator, and also to swear on the road. The Bible does not only contain my history, but also my geography. King Saul went to look for mules on what is today Highway 443, Jonah the Prophet boarded his ship not too far from what is today a Jaffa restaurant, and the balcony where David peeped on Bathsheba must have been bought by some oligarch by now.

The first time I saw my son wearing an IDF uniform I burst into tears, I haven't missed the Independence Day torch-lighting ceremony for 20 years now, and my television was made in Korea, but I taught it to cheer for our national soccer team.

I believe in our right for this land. The people who were persecuted for no reason throughout history have a right to a state of their own plus a free F-16 from the manufacturer. Every display of anti-Semitism from London to Mumbai hurts me, yet deep inside I'm thinking that Jews who choose to live abroad fail to understand something very basic about this world. The State of Israel was not established so that the anti-Semites will disappear, but rather, so we can tell them to get lost.

Acording to Israeli Radio, Corriere della Sera a very reptuable Italian newspaper [link] (couldn't find the artical) the number of dead in Gaza is more like 600 and not 1300, most of the dead are young men (Hamas?! opretives?!) the hospitals are not over crowded and that most news outlets depeded on Hamas spokesmens for information, and the are 'known' for telling the truth. What really is behind the numbers reported on the number of civilian casualties in the Gaza Strip? Italian newspaper Corriere Della Sera reported Thursday that a doctor working in Gaza's Shifa Hospital claimed that Hamas has intentionally inflated the number of casualties resulting from Israel's Operation Cast Lead.
"The number of deceased stands at no more than 500 to 600. Most of them are youths between the ages of 17 to 23 who were recruited to the ranks of Hamas, who sent them to the slaughter," according to the newspaper article. The doctor wished to remain unidentified, out of fear for his life.A Tal al-Hawa resident told the newspaper's reporter, "Armed Hamas men sought out a good position for provoking the Israelis. There were mostly teenagers, aged 16 or 17, and armed. They couldn't do a thing against a tank or a jet. They knew they are much weaker, but they fired at our houses so that they could blame Israel for war crimes."The reporter for the Italian newspaper also quoted reporters in the Strip who told of Hamas' exaggerated figures, "We have already said to Hamas commanders Â why do you insist on inflating the number of victims?" These same reporters mentioned that the truth that will come out is likely to be similar to what occurred in Operation Defensive Shield in Jenin. "Then, there was first talk of 1,500 deaths. But then it turned out that there were only 54, 45 of which were armed men," the Palestinian reporters told the Italian newspaper. These new figures must be treated with caution especially in light of the fact that various official sources in the Gaza Strip, including United Nations and Red Cross officials, have reported that more than 1,300 people were killed and some 5,000 wounded during the three weeks of fighting in the coastal strip. Palestinian sources claim that three-quarters of the dead were unarmed civilians.Hamas, while boasting on having Israeli soldiers by the dozens, a number that has proven to be exaggerated, claimed that no more than 48 of its members were killed during the Israeli offensive. According to IDF figures, Hamas lost hundreds of fighters from its ranks. The UN's humanitarian chief began a tour of the Gaza Strip on Thursday to examine the extent of the devastation left behind by the Israeli offensive. John Holmes said the number of casualties is "extremely shocking." He also urged Israel to conduct a thorough investigation into shelling attacks that damaged UN buildings in Gaza. Holmes said he was thinking about immediate humanitarian needs and longer-term reconstruction. He said the biggest concerns are providing clean water, sanitation, electricity and shelter.
Holmes added that Gaza's border crossings would have to be opened to allow reconstruction materials into the area.The Associated Press contributed to this report.
