What's new?
I'm a senior in college. wtf.
I'm in an apartment with some friends and two cats. Yay!

CHINESE EPIC
I've been watching a show called Koutetsu Sangokushi. It's based in the Chinese epic of the Romance of Three Countries. Really awesome show - if you're a yaoi fangirl, you will have far too much to squee over on this show. It's, like, all guys. And it's a romance. Though never straight out yaoi (there's a paradox for ya...!).
The original story is very interesting, though not quite so... how to put it... "flamboyently pretty"? as the anime? It's much more like classical literature (which it is) than the anime.

EPIC FAIL
Psychic Force. omg. What an amazingly bad but wonderfully entertaining dub. The story's actually pretty interesting... I just couldn't stop laughing at the dubbing! It's ridiculous.
I saw a short review of it in Animerica a million or so years ago, and have always wanted to see just how bad it was. Found a copy by chance over winter break, and finally got around to watching it. Yeah. We're watching this for bad dub night at anime club. No question about that.

Even though it's not very holiday-cheer-ish, I highly suggest seeing Sweeney Todd! It's a great movie.

I've been listening to so much Christmas/wintery music... which, of course, includes The Nutcracker. And I have a whole pile of versions of that music... from Princess Tutu. So now I reeeealllly want to go watch that series again. ;_; <3

I kinda went on a detective anime spree within the last week or so, and have discovered a plethora of great ones!

First, Suteki Tantei Labyrinth (Cute Detective Labyrinth). I'm 9 episodes in, and still pretty much completely lost. I like it, but I've got no idea what the heck's going on with half the plot. <_< I'm curious, though. I like the characters so far, and am starting to wonder whether there is a Cain/Riff relationship going on between Mayuki and... person who's name I've forgotten. The animation is great, and wonderfully sparkly. It's up to episode 9 in Japan, and still airing.

On to Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro ("Private Evil-Eye" Nougami Neuro). Wow. Wow, that show is some sort of twisted. After the initial being completely weirded out part, I really enjoyed it. Reminded me of Beetlejuice a lot, actually... The characters are delightfully quirky, and the plots are reeeeally weird but intensely interesting. The animation is wonderful... And Neuro. wtf. Wow. What a great creation... It, too, is up to episode 9 in Japan, and still airing.

Though it's a little older (vintage 2003, heh), the one I've really gotten attached to is Tantei Gakuen Q (Detective Academy Q). Megumi Ohgata does the main character Kyu's voice. Yay. The plots aren't really dumbed down - I can actually make a few deductions that turn out correct based on some of the bits of evidence that are presented. The characters are engaging, if sometimes a little "stereo-typed." The plots are very interesting and always leaves me wanting to watch the next episode. It is a really, really great show. I'm addicted. It's 45 episodes, and originally aired in 2003.

Last, but certainly NOT least, is my NEW SHINY DEATH NOTE DVD!! AAAH! It even came with a Ryuk figurine! I am, of course, completely in love with this series. It is definitely one of the most intriguing series to come out recently. I know I was speculative of the English version... but then I found out the early trailers were recorded before they had even cast the show. So. No more worries.

Brad Swaile's performance of Light was brilliant, in my opinion. He's a really great actor. Even within the scope of tone episode, you could follow Light's character development just through his tones of voice. It made me LIKE Light for a few minutes! That's tantamount to blasphemy or treason!! So. Brad Swaile definitely is amazing as Light.

L's voice... oh god, I love it. It is perfect beyond anything I could have hoped for in the English version!! I don't even know how to describe it! It was perfectly soft-spoken, and even had a slight accent in a few places, but not enough to notice unless you're listening for voice qualities. Whereever they found that actor - omgthankyou. I cannot wait until volume 2.

Tsubasa manga: Oh. God. The angst!! The absolute ANGST!!! Finally got myself caught up with the Japanese releases of the manga... learned Fai's backstory. I cannot even begin to explain my feelings on that one.

They come as a set.

One male, one female, both fixed and declawed. About one and a half years old.

Marshmellow, the male, is very friendly and loves to be pet (he'll go to sleep purring like a motor after approximately four seconds....), and Bootsie, the female, is a little more skittish, but has a good personality once she knows you. Marshmellow likes to sleep near and play with people's hair, and Bootsie likes feet. They get along really well, and are awesome cats. (Pictures to follow in later edit...)

Mononoke, the new anime series, is soooooo strange, but sooooo interesting. I really like it. First time I watched it I really wasn't sure what to think, but now I really like it.

I go back to school on..... next week. Sometime. It's 3 am, I can't think.

Okay, you've been warned. Here we go.

I can't believe so many predictions of mine came true. Bittersweet things.
The short version: after Sirius died, I predicted that all four Marauders would die by the end of the 7th book, and had (what I like to call) the Black Cauldron Theory - that in an act of selfless sacrifice, Harry would "die," but because it was for the sake of another, it would break the magic of Avada Kedavra and he would be spared. What other book did I read recently that the same thing happened in....? Black Cauldron, HP, and............. ah well. I think of it eventually.

I'll go through and catalogue all my predictions at some point, but those were the two big ones.

And now, for the depressing rant:
AAAARGH I hate it when so many of my favourite characters die!!! WHY! Most of my favourite characters die. Every single time. I have a LIST a mile long! YEARGH. So. Depressing. zomg. I was so angry when Fred died. But at least he got a dramatic death!! With Lupin and Tonks it was like "oh look, they died, too, by the way." ;_______; SO SAD. I ended up crying like a million times in that book. Darn it all!

The happy rant:
AAAAAAAHHHH!!!!! LAST HARRY POTTER BOOK!!! Yay! I can't believe it finally came out, and I read it! It's so surreal! wheeeeee!!!!!!!! And the movie is out, and I've got happy fun times and the whole series and keychains, and I want to make a Ravenclaw scarf for this winter~~~~ <3

The fangirl rant:
SIRIUS WAS IN IT FOR A MINUTE~! ZOMG. And Lupin's all happy and cute and married to Tonks and finally happy for like five seconds, but then he dies and it's sad!!! And OH MY FREAKING GOD I LOVE THE TWINS SO MUCH. So much fin times~~~~ And Regulus, darling, you're secretly a good person~~~! <3

And the wtf rant:

*inserts an edit* ..... so, while looking up Chid's Japanese voice (which, as I thought, was Minami Takayama) on IMDb... and I noticed that the FoxKids version of Escaflowne was listed apart from the Japanese version... and I decided to look through the cast and crew list. I'm scrolling down... Van... Hitomi... Allen Schezar... Merle... Millerna... Elysse Aston (Millerna's sister)... Dilandau... Serena Schezar... wait, what? "Serena Schezar"??? ... ... ... They turned Marlene... into Allen's SISTER?! No wonder I didn't like the FoxKids version! It was Sailor Moon all over again! "Siblings," yeah right. That's as laughable as "cousins." So, yeah. There's that. Thank goodness for box sets of the original series. *end edit*

Anyway. Finals are over, I'm off to camp in the beginning of June... Yeah.

So I got hooked on the book series. And finally finished. ZOMG. Oh the revenge-wanting. Every single book. Awesome characters DIED. I wanted to throw something! It was nearly as bad as when I was reading Terry Goodkind's Chainfire! (Okay, so that one I actually threw the book...) This, I was kept reading by sheer force of wanting to seriously hurt the bad guys. <_< But yeah.

Yeah, so I saw Diru in Minneapolis at the Fine Line today. Pretty much a boatload of awesome. Kyo is hilariously TINY. I swear, there were SO MANY freaking fangirls. And like all of them Kyo fangirls! What about the other boys?! Shinya and Kaoru ha kakkoi janai no desu ka, minna-san?! (Sorry, no one will be getting much sense out of me in English for the next few days. I apologise now.)
Kaoru looked at me.... *float*
Shinya is thin as a twig, but DANG is that man strong. He's thinner than Kyo, and Kyo's THIN! (Kyo was shirtless for the majority of the concert, and as per usual, bleeding and vomiting all over.) Anyway, Shinya was as amazingly hot as ever. <33333
DIE was adorable and wearing a totally awesome denim jacket that I so want. He was the closest to the crowd, since a few people managed to touch him........
Kaoru..... well, he's awesome. He was the calm one who pretty much stayed in the same place the entire time. He's got really nice hair. And a goatee!!! (Actually, Kyo had one, too. It was pretty adorable.)
Toshiya was just... *laugh* himself. Half the time running around being crazy, half the time just staying in the same place.

One of my friends got a backstage pass, for which I will be eteranlly jealous... And another friend got Kaoru's pick down her shirt when he was throwing picks. Same friend also had a staring contest with Kyo. lol. I was standing about five feet about Kaoru's head. <3 Perfect view of Shinya~

So, yeah. All in all, pretty much the greatest Valentine's Day I could've hoped for.

I moved a boatload of stuff to scraps, and updated a bunch of stuff in my gallery, reuploaded the Tarot series in card form for your deck-making pleasures, and will be uploading stuff shortly (if I don't fall asleep)! I've got a New Year's resolution to use my gallery more this year.

Also! I'd like to start doing comissions this year, so, unless I get a deluge of them, I'll do them on an individual basis... I'm thinking....

-one character/person, inked - $5
-two character/person, inked - $7
-add $.50 per character after that
-one character/person, full-colour - $7.50
-two character/person, full-colour - $10
-add $.75 per character after that

This would all be on nice paper (meaning not copy paper/computer paper); colour will be marker or coloured pencil (probably marker...).

THE UPDATE:
Well. My name is apparently Elysa now. <_< I got roped into playing piano at intermission for one of V's shows, and in one of the emails the director sent out, he thanked "Elysa" for the wonderful intermission music. Seriously. SO. FUNNY. Because my name is NOWHERE near that. "Elizabeth" I could see getting mistaken. "Elysia" I could see getting mistaken. Even "Ellen," "Erica," or "Elanor." But "Kaylene"?!?!

V and I bought some really amazingly bad movies at Walmart the other day. It amazing. It makes SQUEAL look good. (For those who are uninformed - the SQUEAL trilogy was our Sailor Moon parody trilogy that put us on the map as far as parody fandubs go. The first one was... Well, it was pretty bad, but in a good way.)
So. The frist bad movie we watched was called "Thunder Prince" and the description on the back was NOTHING like the actual movie. It looked like anime. But it had no Japanese names in the credits. My theory is that the company took anime footage and just added a few bits here and there and didn't credit the original makers. Because it's totally something I could see happening. It was amazingly bad. I'll see if I can rip a few sound/video clips and post it on YouTube or something. They are beautifully horrible. Enough about that, though.

I saw a possum today! It was running across the road. For some reason this was very amusing. >_> ..... Yeeessss......

So the other day I had this really weird dream that was essentially my brain subconsciously predicting the last Harry Potter book. It was SO STRANGE, and the worst part is, some of it made sense.
One of the funniest things that happened in my dream was that Dumbledore got somehow resurrected (no, he's not Jesus.) and was sick in bed. So Harry and Hermione were visiting him, and then Hagrid comes in. Dumbledore's like "oh don't worry about me, I'm okay la di da di daa." And as soon as Harry and Hermione leave, Dumbledore turns to Hagrid and says he wants a seven course meal because he's hungry. So later, when he was still pretending to be sick, I walked back into the room (apparently I was Harry for a while wtf) and Dumbledore's hiding under the sheets, and his feast is hiding under more sheets on the chairs next to the bed. And he keeps sneaking food from it and eating it. It was really funny to see Dumbledore pretendning to be sick because he totally obviously wasn't. Anyway.
Then there was this whole other plot thing with Voldemort and the Malfoys, and Draco and Lucius actually being really awesome and stuff... Anyway. Somehow it ended up with Draco passed out by a bus and someone carried him on to the bus, so I drew a picture of that part of the dream which I will scan asap because I like how it turned out.

So. V and I were in my basement and she all of a sudden says "fish. There are fish in your basement." And I'm like "what? Are you hallucinating or something?" and she's like "No, there are fish over there." And sure enough, there were fish over there.

Apparently, my brother's friends bought a couple of betas to make them fight, but their water was too dirty (which they didn't know) so they weren't fighting. So they left them in my basement. So I've adopted them. They're very cute and their names are Minuet and Requiem. I'll take some pictures later.

Anyway. So after I got home from camp, I slept, and then wasn't home for another week. Again. I managed to get two film shoots done in that week, though. I wouldn't recommend 16 hours of filming in one day, though. It hurts your head. Then do that nearly every day for a week. Plus constructing a set for a play. It was fun, though.

Alright, so sitting still on an abandoned railway bridge at night, in the rain and wind, forty feet above a river, covered in fake blood wasn't exactly great... But it'll look darn good in the movie!!! >O

Sora and I went on a trek across the Cities... to look for a Duel Disk. So we could do Yugioh photomanips for our photography project. XD We're such NERDS. But we finally found one.

In other news, I wrote a Saiyuki Drinking Game. BE WARNED: if you ever play it with real alcohol, don't watch more than one episode. We played with pop, and.... god, it was like CONSTANT DRINKING. It's more fun to play with a group of four or more, because then you can assign characters. Like me -- in our group of four, I'm Hakkai. So whenever something on the Hakkai list happens, I drink. It's fun. We're slowly working our way through the series, both playing the game and not playing. Good times.

If you go WAAAAAYYYYYY back to the beginning of my gallery, there's my Saint Dane picture. Dane, for those who don't know, is the number one bad guy, and my object of fangirlish lust, in the book series "Pendragon" by DJ MacHale. I've been a fan for quite a few years now. So about halfway through the series he gets his hair burnt off. NOTE, this is 5 books into the series. Even so. He's still my maniacal bastard boytoy character. (*luffs*) So here's the comment I get:

On top of that, it's finals week, and I'm about to fall over... Meaning that when I get uber stressed, it's time to curl up with a good anime and subconsciously finish my projects. (Hey, it worked while working on my 2D project!) ((Kids, don't do this when you're in college... seriously...))

About a year ago, a friend of mine commited suicide. He's been missed this year. I hope he's in the better place he wished for.

My heartfelt condolences to everyone at UofM Morris, over the death of the junior killed at the homecoming celebration. And my prayers to the living who saw it, that they can keep going.
