A Festive Tale

The Joneses were a happy family. Not rich, not by any means, but certainly happy, and there was no time of year in which they were happier than at Christmastime. Every January, Mr. Jones and Mrs. Jones would begin to save every extra cent they could so that, come Christmas Eve, the whole lot could go up to town and buy a tree.

Unfortunately, it had been a particularly rough year, and Mr. Jones found that he hardly had anything saved.

"I fear we will not be able to afford our annual tree, dear," he sighed to his wife. "I've not more than ten dollars here! Certainly it will not do."

"No, no, we'll find a way," said Mrs. Jones. "Perseverance, darling! Surely we can find something."

So the next day, Christmas Eve, the mother and the father and the three wide-eyed children walked into town with every intention of purchasing a tree.

"Here's a big one," cried Abner.
"As big as the price," said the Mister.
"This one's so pretty!" little Susie chirped.
"The cost is less so," sighed the Mister.
The Missus mused, "maybe this one will drop fewer needles?"
"Fewer needles on the floor," muttered the Mister, "fewer pennies in our pockets."

It was rejection after rejection until, suddenly, there came a small cry from behind. The family turned to look: it was little Johnny, brushing the snow off a tiny tree. It couldn't have been bigger than a shrub, and had a few bald branches, but Johnny seemed enamored.

"It's perfect," he said. His siblings concurred.
"It's cheap," the grateful parents purred.

The happy Joneses left town, tree in tow, singing Christmas carols and laughing heartily. On Christmas, they danced and romped and swapped stories, and had a jolly time.

In the end, though, the tree was certainly the best part. It was agreed: this had been the best Christmas tree they'd ever eaten.

Yeah. Yeah, you read correctly. Subscribed. It turns out my entry to *RoseSagae's contest didn't suck as horribly as I thought it did. That, and only one other person entered. Minor details! I've got the trophy on display under the "Stampage" section.

I went to a book signing in Austin on Thursday. I got to miss a day of school to talk to Erin Hunter (or, rather, Victoria, one of the women under that pseudonym). Awesome? You better believe it, bucko. She liked my drawings, too, and she personalized all my books. Woo! CB
After that, I just sat in the picture book area for two hours and studied the illustrations. Book People has the best children's book area ever.

Ohmegaw. Sam actually convinced me into going to the school social. HOW THE CRUD DID SHE DOOO THAAAAT?

The theme is "black-and-white", so everyone's being forced to come in grayscale. That's a cool theme and all, but as I am considerably lacking in casual black-and-white apparel, my mom all like "LOL CLOTHES-SHOPPING11111!!!!"

Lord. I haet clothes-shopping.

And typos.

However, one totally-cool-super-special-awesome thing came out of it: SIXTY-THREE SWEATER FTW. Winter, I demand that you come as soon as possible so I can gloat this thing around school! Faster! I SAID FASTER, DURNIT!

I never get excited about an article of clothing. Never. Unless it has meerkats on it. :1

This function better be good. I'm missing Monk because of it! I want to dance the Macarena and laugh at the Village People at least once.

On a totally unrelated note, the Firefox spell-checker apparently doesn't have "meerkat" in its dictionary. Oh, sure, it has "meerschaum" in it, but nothing so absurd and uncommon as "meerkat".

Look, I actually made myself a makeshift journal layout! Huzzah!

Wow. I'm bored.

I'd like to do some more dragon pics, but inspiration doesn't want to come. *sigh*

So, anywhoosies, I have discovered the joys of being a watcher. I watch the following Deviants: RoseSagae (), Nemoy (), and Alcomis ().

Rose updates a LOT, and it's fun watching her. She submits the most interesting things! I actually feel comfortable commenting on her stuff, which is weird seeing as I've got my stupid borderline personality disorder.

Nemoy doesn't update as often as Rose, but when she does update it's usually with something that amazes me and makes me jealous of her ability. o_o;

Gio (Alcomis) is one of my best friends from school. I convinced him to join, but he hasn't uploaded anything since he NEVER COMES ONLINE. *spazmodictwitching*

And that's the way it is.

Video games are FUUUNNN.
