Lest We Forget
I got the new Marilyn Manson CD, entitled Lest We Forget: Best Of. (If you couldn't tell by the title of the CD, it's a compilation CD of his "best" songs.) Anyway, it's pretty good. I wish there were some new tracks on there (other than his new single, "Personal Jesus" cover -- Depeche Mode). Charles bought me the CD for my birthday (though it isn't until 2210)... 'why', you ask? He bought the deluxe edition for me, which will be a limited stock. Why didn't he hold onto it until my birthday? >> Oh come on. I didn't want to wait that long for it! 'Cause I'm going to be Elmo on the Sesame Street Homecoming float. ^_______^ I was sooooo lucky to get that part, because it was already taken by one of the officers in NAHS (I'm in NAHS- National Art Honours Society), but the officer never even comes to school. So my art teacher got really pissed off and kicked a lot of the officers out of the main character positions because most of them don't do anything, so those were opened up. I went afterschool to help with the float again and I heard her ask "Who wants to be Elmo?" and I was like "I do!!!". >_> Heh. I get to make my costume and stuff. Yeah... so my parents went to Orlando for the day yesterday, and my mum is convinced that she told me that I had to be home at 10pm last night, though I would've remembered if she'd said that. So my dad was over there siding with her [this morning around 9:30... they woke me up to bitch at me] about the fact that "I was supposed to be home" and that my curfew was "never 10:30" (yeah, I have a curfew for the fucking weekend) and that it's 10:00. It makes me pissed off enough to have a fucking curfew at all for the weekend. Nights I have school it's 9:00. O_o Anyway, I'm grounded today because I "yelled at my parents and used foul language". My parents think they're superiour to me because they're just that: my parents. They'll use responses like "I'm the mom/dad, you're the kid," and "because I said so," or "because you're the minor". Wankers. About my permit, my parents said that yesterday was a bit of a test to see if I was responsible enough to get my permit. They fucking set me up... they never told me I had to be home at 10 and they know it... that, and they think I'll have roadrage because I supposedly yelled at them, so they don't trust me behind the wheel. So I'll probably be taking Driver's Ed for a whole semestre in school (which I had to give up a full year of art for ) for nothing. And yeah, I have to take it in school. I can't be like most people and just take it at the DMV. My parents are like "well you'll appreciate taking it in school since it'll lower your insurance [females have higher insurance rates due to makeup and cell phones], because you'll be paying for it".

That's my main beef today. It probably doesn't seem like a big deal to you, but it makes a hell of a lot of difference to me. My parents do this to me all the time.

I hate when a friend says they'll do something with you, and then it turns out that they get a call from someone else (who is obviously more important than you are) and so they cancel with you to hang out with them. This happens to me all the time and I'm personally getting really sick of everyone thinking I'm one of those "last minute" people they can call because I'm "never busy" so if they have absolutely nothing to do, they can call me and have something to do. On the other hand, I can call like, all of my friends, and all of them will be too busy to do anything. Wow.

I woke up at nine and took a shower. When I got out and called Charles, he wasn't even awake. O_o So he took a shower and I went to SteinMart and Supermarket Of Shoes with my dad because he needed shoes. So then I went to Charlie's house after my dad accomplished his mission. Anyway, we went to Albertson's and bought some cookies to go with the movies we rented, which were A Clockwork Orange and Clerks. After we were done watching A Clockwork Orange, we went to The Olive Garden. Our waiter was a dick and rushed us through our meal. Trust me, I could list the things he didn't do (that he was supposed to do) and whatnot, but I'd rather not have this be a bitch session. But let me not digress... when we returned to Charlie's house, we watched Clerks. Then I got picked up.
In other news, there's another hurricane headed for Florida that's already a category 4, and will be a 5 by the time it hits. x_x Damn you to Hell, Mr. Hurricane.
EDIT Stupid hurricane isn't coming here. Yay. Besides, it's already down to a category 3.

And as I'm almost positive you've already heard, it sucks to live-- er, to have lived-- south of Sarasota (where I reside), Florida. Punta Gorda, Charlotte Harbour, Arcadia, Boca Grande, etc. (all places my parents would frequently drive to) were all practically leveled by the hurricane that passed through Central Florida. I am SO fucking lucky that it didn't hit Sarasota. Contrary to what Fritz ( ~ popeyethemailman ) has said, I'm glad it didn't hit us right on. Fuck, it was nearly as bad as Andrew. x_x I'd rather keep my home, thank you. My mum went to go volunteer today to help those who lost their homes and such, and she'll be doing that again tomorrow. Since she's a medical personnel and had experience with EMT work, she was able to do more than your average volunteer work. So yeah, whoopdedoo... you probably don't care.

Many of you have probably heard this riddle from one of my favourite movies, Alice In Wonderland, as a child, and never really noticed it... that, or you may have also heard it when you were old enough to solve riddles and could do it whenever possible. Well as it turns out... in the text in the book, Lewis Carroll never gave an answer to this riddle.
He made up this riddle specifically for the book during the Mad Hatter Tea Party/Merry UnBirthday scene.

"Have you guessed the riddle yet?" the Hatter said, turning to Alice again.
"No, I give it up," Alice replied. "What's the answer?"
"I haven't the slightest idea," said the Hatter.
"Nor I," said the March Hare.
Alice sighed wearily. "I think you might do something better with the time," she said, "than wasting it in asking riddles that have no answers."

'''Lewis Carroll himself got bugged about this so much that he was moved to write the following in the preface to the 1896 edition of his book:

*Because Poe wrote on both. (Loyd again)
*Because there is a B in both and an N in neither. (Get it? Aldous Huxley, 1928)
*Because it slopes with a flap. (Cyril Pearson, undated)

So there you have it.
There is no REAL answer, though some people have speculated that the answer is that Poe wrote on both.

I've just completed my piece called "Fragile", which is based off of a song by Sentenced ( [link] ) called "Fragile" (wow, you would've never guessed that ). Anyway, I'm actually quite proud of that piece, and as you can see, it is now my featured deviation. ^^ I worked hard on it, and will probably redo it in the future so it'll actually look good. O_o That was the best I could do in the meantime, so it means a lot to me, at least. ::End Update::

I read ~CassandraJean 's ( [link] ) short story called "The Little Monster of Spikes" and really liked it. I asked if I could put it in my journal, so here it is.

"The little monster of spikes was always sad. But noone knew why because nobody ever asked. He would sit by the side of the road, everyday. "One Hug" he would call out, "and I can be happy again." But noone ever hugged him, for his body was covered in spikes and thorns, and if they hugged him then they would be hurt. So every day, for years the little monster of spikes would sit and call out for a kindness. He was unable to cry, for he had no eyes, so instead, he would pray.
One day he heard someone walk by. "One hug, please..then I may be happy once again." The lady stopped and turned to him. She was kind, but she did not want to hug him for then she would be hurt. So instead she rubbed his tummy where he had no thorns, and then sat down next to him. Every day she would come and sit with him by the road, while he begged for a hug. The little monster of spikes would say "That lady, she is my best friend." But others would only laugh at him. They would say "But you are blind, you cant see her, she is not your friend, she doesnt even hug you so you will be happy." But the little monster of spikes would not listen, he knew it didnt matter if he could see her or not, she was his friend. So months past, and she was always there sitting next to him. One day, she didn't come. The little monster of spikes became even more sad. He would wait for her every day, but she never came back. He became more and more sad, even forgetting to ask others for a hug. She never came back. Later, a person passing by felt sorry for him and told him "The lady has found another monster to pity, she wont come back" The little monster of spikes was crushed, and he sat by the side of the road for days and days, not calling out, just sitting. And then, alone, he died.
What would have happened, people would wonder when they passed the spot where he used to sit.
