What is more important is this: Australian bush fires. Many of you probably know by now that Australia is facing it's worst bush fire spread in history. That means in EVER. So far the death toll is rising to almost 200 people, and whole towns have been completely obliterated off the map. The worst part is that the whole thing is suspected to have started as an act of arson.
Now I'm not going to stand up on a soap-box and preach to you all, but if you would like to donate you can do it on the Red Cross website (Australia and New Zealand residents), and American/non-Australasian readers can donate online via either of these sites also I think.
Every little bit counts.

So word is Barack is the new US President, yet to be sworn in.
Sounds like pretty exciting times ahead, I'm interested how he's going to handle the hot potato that is the War on Terror. John McCain just wasn't doing it for me, and I guess a lot of the US felt the same way

Apparently this was the longest campaign and election lead up ever.
Congrats Obama, well played, well played

Also, we have our own (New Zealand) elections on Saturday. What a downer xD Going from history-making events to wondering whether Helen or John are going to take the lead. Still, it's going to be my first time voting, so that's a novelty at least.

It's my birthday on Monday! Woo! Turning 19, one more year and I'm twenty! I'm already having a quarter-life crisis xD
I'm watching this random show on Documentary Channel at the moment, it's called 'Fanatical' and it's about people who are... well... fanatical xD this one is about Xena: Warrior Princess (which was filmed in New Zealand!). These people are SERIOUS fans

Makes me feel better about my own fandoms!
Anyway, got some cute stuff for my birthday. My sister got me some cute designer collectables, so I might put a pic of them in my scraps.
OMG and the other day my dad bought me some Choco Kusse (which means 'Choco Kisses' in German) and they are sooo nice. We only get them rarely because they have to be bought from import stores. They're like ultra soft evaporates-on-your-tongue marshmallow stuff on wafer with chocolate coating. They are ridiculously good, no-one makes sweets like us Germans! xDD

Must read boring material but can't focus.

Started watching some old 'Cardcaptor' episodes on YouTube. I used to love that anime. English dub though, the original version has an annoying voice.

And I watched 'Southland Tales' the other day, its by the guy who wrote and directed Donnie Darko. I gotta say, it had good intentions and definitely interesting ideas especially with the whole Ronald/Roland thing, but it just didn't work. Too many strange characters and obscure plots about time and space. And a random musical number. I didn't get that it was supposed to be a comedy (of all things!) until I saw the making of. Still, at least it shows that Sean William Scott can act. And it had Justin Timberlake. He was actually really good.

Edit: Ok I read the FAQ on imdb and it explains A LOT. I understand all the little references to the bible and stuff in the film now. Thank you Internet. And you know, I have a seeking suspicion that Richard Kelly kinda did that on purpose, he did mention viewers using the Internet to find more info about the ideas and such. You sly dog you

so when I get it I'll be like this:

And I also want the new Muse dvd, deluxe edition, and Brick on dvd (awesome movie) and a backpack... ah capitalism I love you so <3 And I watched 'Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure' on c4 this evening (yeah so I like Keanu Reeves ok?) and now I have HUGEST urge to watch Constantine. Seriously, I might use a giftcard and buy it tomorrow. Its super cool.

Yeah, thats basically all I've been up to. Parents are arguing distractingly behind me, which pretty much means my Mum yelling at my Dad. Adults. Keep me informed and I am checking people's deviations! Ok cheerio.

Got my mum a Mother's Day present today as well for tomorrow, and we might be going to a gypsy fair that's camped nearby! That should be cool as. Oh and I also saw some Death Note stuff in a little Asian store today which was pretty cool, but only Ryuk, no Raito which was sad

I finished my Photography Assignment yesterday! Well, actually only Task 1 and 2 but all the practical work is out of the way and most of the writing! Woo! I'm so glad that it's almost done (until I have to start the next one) and I can finally enjoy my free periods at school again!

Ok so I haven't updated in a whi-... a long time. A really long time

. And I'm sorry that with my eventual update, I don't actually have anything interesting to say. But good news! I get my school photography boards back sometime very soon (as soon as I can get them home in fact!) and that means I will be posting some of the better pieces up when I can get them scanned. I've also been working on concept ideas for my boards this year, and doing some doodling and such which I might add to my scraps, just for the heck of it.
Not much has been going on in my world, so keep me updated with all your interesting stories, and I can live vicariously through you guys xD.

Thats right, this journal entry shall be devoted to Big Day Out. So prepare yourselves! For those not in the know, Big Day Out is basically an all-day music fest with lots of stages and heaps of local and international acts playing all day and all night in and around a stadium.
Let us begin.
Yesterday me, two of my friends, my sister and about 8 of her friends caught the bus to Mt Smart Stadium. On the way we had to change buses, and screeched to a halt at traffic lights where an accident had happened (no-one seemed seriously harmed which was good).
Once inside, we went for an explore and who should we meet almost straight away but Clarke Gayford of C4! (New Zealand's music tv station). He gave us balloons! After checking out the sights for a bit, and meeting people we knew, then losing people again, it was time for the first act we wanted to see, Eskimo Joe ! Being in the crowd for that was quite fun, pretty relaxed. Sang along to 'Black Fingernails, Red Wine'. Then we watched Trivium for a bit, and wandered off to the markets while Goodnight Nurse and Blindspott played.
We came back just in time for My Chemical Romance, which we watched from the stands. I quite liked them, much better live than I expected, they weren't that good on a live DVD that I'd seen. Gerard Way's hair was black again too, which everyone was thankful for. After them, wandered over to Kasabian but it was too crowded to see them. We headed to the Boiler Room which is basically a huge circus tent with a DJ at the front and lots of lights and dance music. Had fun dancing in there for a while, the DJ was really good too.
Went back into the stadium after that and got seats to wait for The Killers to start. One of my friends wanted to see if they could spot MCR, who were at the signing tent with a huge crowd of fans hoping to see them, and a line of 300 people (the max allowed) already formed. I managed to squeeze into the crowd at the side and took a few photos for my friend, while this really nice lady got a sticker for us. They were really good live, playing a lot of songs that people knew while everyone sang along loudly. They even got a mosh pit going down the front.
Then came my favourite act, Muse! I was sitting with all of my friends in the stands, but then decided to go into the crowd after maybe the first song, and one of my friends came with me. Once we down there, I was taking photos of the screen by the stage which showed the band playing. A really nice guy and obviously a big fan asked me if I would like to be lifted up, so I sat on his shoulders and could see above the crowd! I took some photos from there too. After I got down, we spent the act dancing and singing at the top of our voices, and cheered. Another nice guy told me he could move if I wanted so I could take photos and I saw the first guy dancing behind me. We even got into moshing for some of the later songs, and everyone in the area around us was really into it too, so it was so much fun! Took still more photos, and a lot of them are blurry, and some videos. Afterwards I was exhausted but totally hyped.
Then Tool started, and they had a great act with screens and lasers. Finally, we headed to Shapeshifter in the Boiler Room to dance until the night was finished.
So all in all it was an awesome day!

By the way, I watched most of 'O Brother Where Art Thou?' earlier and I must say that if you havent seen it then you really should. Fantastic film. I've seen it quite a few times now, and if anything it only gets better.

Turns out the actor is actually only 18. Huh, didnt see that one coming. However after that, I now really want to read the book, because I feel like it would be so much better than the movie, as the books usually are (Harry Potter anyone?)

Plus, me and 2 friends (one being Megan!) saw a nice slighty-emo-though-he-denyed-it boy downtown who offered us hugs for 50c! Apparently he and a friend needed money to catch a bus to an area near where we live, and then we found out that he went to our intermediate school! Small world. We saw him again later twice with his friends, and had another chat, and turns out that they had during the course of the day raised $35! I think I should get into the hugs business!

Also went to a party a while back and played.... you guessed it, SingStar!

So while those people who went to Xmas In The Park got wet (and persumabley cold), I was warbling it out over at my friend's!
Only ten sleeps till Christmas! I havent done any of the Christmas shopping I should have done by now, in fact our tree doesnt have anything under it at all! Its also looking a bit wilty but we love the fresh pine smell it gives off, and its pretty loveable in its thick covering of tinsel.

I also finished Across The Nightingale Floor for anyone whos read that. It was one of those books that I always kinda started and then lost interest. Reading Golems Eye now. Which brings me to a rant about how all the good books in bookstores are always placed in the "childrens" section. Is it really that much effort to make a good 'young adult' section? Thats always annoyed me.

Yay, 17 at last! Was a good day today too. And now I have my own digital camera to take photos on, which should really come in handy! Also now have a book of '501 must-see films' which should be great for the next time I can't think of a DVD to get out! xD
Lots of people said 'Happy Birthday' to me today which was nice, and people in my photography class even sang, which made me embarressed

As for the updating, I finished a short written thingy, prose one might say, but I'm not sure whether to post it. Its pretty lame and not really like me I guess. Anyway, still have to see about that one.

The Zombie Hunters- Zombies people! Who doesnt love them!? This is a great comic with amazing art styles! Dont forget to check out ^Ashwings, the creator! (And an anime gallery director to boot... snazzy)

Gravity- The concept behind this one is not only original but addictive and all art (even background) is eye-catching! Interested to see where this one goes.

No Rest For The Wicked- Theres so much I like about this one, seriously. The character style is awesome and its so easy to get sucked in! Nice storyline and the characters are so different and individual.

Inverloch- This one is just....incredible. You have to admire the detail and devotion thats gone into this. A great deal of effort for layout with chapter title pages and the smooth colouring looks stunning. Little more traditional fantasy than the others methinks.

Today some people came to our school to play. They are a group from one of the schools in our city, and they were going around different high-schools to play to the masses.
Now am I the only one who actually liked them!?
I normally dont like sorta hip-hop stuff, but I thought they were pretty good! Kinda like roots, dancy, happy music with good tunes and some pretty darn good singing, not to mention the totally planned-out dancing! And yet, I seem to be almost the only one who actually liked them at all.
Ah well, I thought they were fun none the less

Man alive (my mum used to always say that) Australia was fun! We went up to Noosa on the Sunshine Coast and went to the Australia Zoo where we saw that scarily-overenthusiastic guy, Steve Irwin! Plus we saw his little daughter who did this Wiggles type preformance with these guys. I laughed so hard cos these guys were like in their thirties and doing crazy dances and songs

. I also got a photo with a koala which was so soft and sleepy, and heavy too! The zoo was pretty awesome, especially with the kangaroos which were really tame and you could pat them. We even saw one with a joey, which looked really strange as only a tail and its large feet were sticking out of the mothers pouch!

After Noosa, we headed to the Gold Coast

. Now I'm in love with that place. We stayed in this large hotel tower that looked like a wedding cake

on Broadbeach, which is right next to Surfers Paradise. (more meaningless place names for people who dont know what I'm rambling about). I went shopping (of course) in the huge mall that just happened to be located directly opposite our hotel. Why, what a coincidence

. We did lots of swimming and drives around the areas near the Gold Coast, including Mount Tamborine (cue the tamborine actions) which had the most stunning views.
Yesterday, me and my dad went to Wet and Wild, which I suppose you can tell is a water theme park. That was so much fun, even if we did have to wait in a few lines. Now Im not usually one for theme parks but even I summed up the willpower (and the lung power, frick there were alot of stairs!) to go on what is aparently Australia's fastest water slide

. Its a long, straight tube where u basically lie down, and go really really fast, and you sorta fly up at one point too. Good times, even if I couldnt see anything for the spray!
We even brought some photos of us looking mangled as we went down some slides. Such tourists are we.

Even tho we were only gone for a week, it felt like much longer. Before I knew it I was dragging myself out of bed at the ungodly time of 4:30am

. But now I must deform my fingers by typing no longer, and wish you all a happy easter.

So that was my "5 plus a day" for yesterday. Talk about your complete diet needs. Its a wonder I dont have scurvy.

Blood drive is coming! AHH! Us students can line up (of our own free will of course

) and have our life juices sucked out of us. Its kinda a gross concept, but I actually read something the other day about blood donations. They dont just put your blood in someone and then its end of story. They can seperate it and make heaps of life-saving products out of just one donation! So thats pretty cool. But I dont think I would do it anyway, in fact, I'm not allowed! The minimum weight you have to be is 55kgs (sorry dont know what that is in American measure

) and I'm under that! So looks like I have a guilt-free excuse!

In other news, I have assignments due T_T

My bio report on kidney dialysis >_<

My photography write-up for the Anne Noble-style pictures (which were so boring btw)

Develop my new film and make prints of those pictures (not to mention learning to write on them with chemicals and make "torn" photos @_@

Finish rest of photo notes and tie up other various loose ends like my sun-pictures.

My cousin got married on St. Patricks Day. It was a very nice beach wedding with maybe 50 guests at most. And there was cake!!
Plus the reception was fun, with this dj who played all these old songs like s-club 7 and abba

but they played some dance tracks too which was fun

And I found that there is something to be said for dipping flowers in hot candle wax. Dont ask.

Plus Im trying to summon up some talent to enter *BlackTop-Demon's contest. So far, no dice, but I'm getting an idea of what I want to do

I noticed that my messages looked different in the Message Centre and then saw that I now have a fancy little * next to my name!
It appears that I have been subscribed.

I wonder how. I certainly didnt subscribe myself, and as far as I know, no-one bought me a subscription and I didnt win anything. SO CONFUSED.

Can anyone shed some light on the matter?
