Dear Secret Santa,

This year I have (mostly) been a good boy. I have been working very hard to try to help people all year. I would love your little Elf helper to have fun making a wonderful piece of art for me.

As you know I live in New Zealand and I love it here. A picture of a kiwi (bird) would be really great! Especially if you could tie in the Silver Fern and maybe a Maori influence somewhere too.

It would be really great to have something unique that I can relate to 'the land of the long white cloud' (the translation of 'Aotearoa' - the Maori name for New Zealand).

I promise to keep being good and to be a good Elf in turn.

The Marlborough Sounds are truly beautiful and I realised while I was there that I just couldn't do them justice with my camera. I tried mind, but I am only disappointed with the photos.

A short missive today as it is getting late here and I should be heading to my bed. Instead of going for a kip I have been mucking around on dA. I have just found a beta testing thingamy for a portfolio so I thought I would have a go at it. If you are keen to have a look please follow this link -> :[link]

I would love to put more of my pictures online but I am having problems getting the bloomin things to upload! The pages time out before they upload, it doesn't seem to matter the size of the file either... curses. It isn't helped by NZ broadband being naff at the best of times... (only 1 cable linking us all to the rest of the world :()

I will keep drip feeding them as and when it lets me.

Oh, I bought myself a couple of new filters the other week, a standard clear antiglare type one and a polarised one! I haven't had chance to really try them out yet... I also spotted that the local camera shop is due to get some 8GB memory cards any day now and then I can have some fun with RAW :D

Next thing to have a go at on here is the CSS feature :D maybe for a future insomniac night!

This is obviously my first journal entry and now i have figured out how to upload my pictures easier I feel I can write something. The first thing is to say thanks to lilackitty for finally getting me to come on here and have a proper look around at the site! It is great to find a place that is so encouraging about art from any level, from the complete novice to the full professional. There is some seriously good stuff on here and I am VERY impressed by all that I have found so far! Please have a look at her work, she is very good!

A lot of my pictures are 'virginal' at the moment. I have no software available to edit my pictures beyond a bit of cropping and a little colour adjustment. A couple of my pictures I quite like have been put up in the galleries, the rest I am putting into my scrapbook until I feel a little more confident about putting them into the big wide world!

Please feel free to have a squint at them. I would be grateful for any hints/tips/advice from anyone with more photographic/artistic abilities than my own (ie everyone so far as I am a complete newbie!)

Secondly, for anyone using Vista 64 and using IE7, ditch it and get Mozilla Firefox! I was having all sorts of problems trying to get my pictures to upload with IE (so much so I nearly gave up). On a hunch I got Mozilla instead - no problems since! :)
