Everything I have heard (I even listened to the Conference Call yesterday) indicates that the deal will leave Marvel alone to continue running as they are, much the way that Pixar is left alone. So all of you fearing that Disney is going to step in and de-claw Wolvie or what ever really need to chill and think about all the positive things that could come from this.

First with Marvel now backed by the Disney name/money/power it will put Marvel (and hopefully comics in general) into a much bigger, public Spotlight. If anyone has even remotely looked they can see that Comic readership is at it's lowest in a long time, if not ever, so something needs to happen to help boost this back up, and this could do it.

Hopefully it offers is a chance for Marvels great "All Ages" books to get out there to kids, who are the ones we need to get interested in comics so as they grow so does their comic reading. That is how I started out, reading the more "kid" comics and as I got older I found stuff like Judge Dread, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (the originals) etc... Right now there are some great comics out there aimed at the older audience (from teens up to adults) and there are some great kid friendly comics too, the only problem is that there is no easy access for those kids to get interested in them like there used to be.

Eventually we may even see comics back in convenience and grocery stores, which would ROCK!!!

Ok enough Marvel/Disney Pro-ranting On to other things.

Dallas Comic-Con was a blast (sorry I am so late on posting about it). I had a great time hanging out with old friends and new friends alike. I stayed with and it was a good time. It was great to meet David and Chris and get to hang out with Gary more than we have gotten to in the past.

As far as the Con it was great. This was the most packed I have seen it since I have started attending it. There were some really top names there like and who are always great to see and talk with. Watching what Mitch does makes me sick, but only because I can't do it o_O. I also picked up the Awesome calender that & did.

I was sitting next to my usual Partners in Crime and much fun was had (and made of) by all.

Ok back to work.

Man I have to say that All-Con was one of the most interesting Cons I have ever been to. It started off kind of slow on Friday. I was a little bummed because our banners we had ordered didn't make it in. The turn out for the first part of my coloring panel was a little lack luster as well. It was good to hang out and talk with my buddies and and it was really cool to get to color on a baseball that Mike drew on.

Well whatever Friday lacked Saturday more than made up for. Once it started going it didn't stop. Things got off to a good start because our banners showed up and they looked good. I think the con was susposed to open at 10am, well when we went to set up around 9-9:30 people were already out and going. Before we could even get all set up people were stopping to check out our work and talk with us. Things looked up too since Chris brought his better half

and his girl also showed up and got a joint commission from me and Mike. It stayed busy all day, I don't think we stopped until about 8:30pm.

After we closed up shop we all decided to head to a Comic Trivia game that was going on. It was pretty funny and Mike ended up winning it all. After that we went to the Burlesque Show that was being held there. I know crazy huh, a Burlesque Show at a Comic/Sci-Fi Convention, but it was there and it was pretty fun to see.

Sunday was good too, not a crazy as Saturday but better than Friday. I had the second part of my Coloring Panel and the attendance was better. Hopefully I can do some more of those and maybe get a little more "support" from the cons on letting people know about them. Overall we took it easy on Sunday and it was a good wind down day.

Still ahve a couple of coloring commissions to finish up from the show, one of which is an Amazing Mark Brooks sketch of Vamprilla.

Ok, I think that is all I got. I will be attending the Sci-Fi Expo in Dallas (Richardson) April 18-19 but I will post more on that later.

Sketch Coloring - $10 to $25 for most sketches (crazy backgrounds or multiple characters will bump the price up a little)

I will also be doing 2 coloring demonstrations/classes there. The first one will cover the basic stuff like setting up lines, flats and basic rendering. The second will continue from there with more rendering, FX & Holds and preparing your file for print.

Coloring 201 - Sunday March 15th @ 1pm

I will be using the book Hi-Fi Coloring for Comics as the basis for the demos and will have a few copies to sell there (for a little less than you can pick them up in the stores) for those that are interested.

Had a chance to briefly talk with Cat and Mark who were both really cool as usual. Saw but never seemed to make it over to talk to him on my couple of brief trips out from behind my table.

I shared a table with my friend Mike but we weren't in the greatest of spots. At first we thought it would be pretty good since we were close to the entrance (second table in). However, the entrance was like a wind tunnel every time the doors opened, and since it was freaking cold out side all weekend, people didn't want to stop and look at our stuff while getting blasted by the Arctic Air of Doom!!!

Saturday was pretty slow but I had fun, I had taken my laptop and a spare monitor and had it set up so people could watch me color some stuff. Got a few people to stop and check that out. Was starting to get worried that I wouldn't even end up breaking even on the cost of attending the con though. Sunday picked up and my fears of losing money (something no one wants to do) eased allot and by the end of the day everything was good.

Sitting next to us were a couple of good guys, and BLS fans, and they were great to talk with, so that is always a big plus. Nothing sucks as bad as being next to jerks at cons

Talked one of them into joining us here on DA so go over and show Chris some DA love.

Ok that is all for now. Got another Con coming up in March, All-Con, and I am gonna be doing a couple of Coloring Panels. I will post more on that as it gets closer and I get the plans more finalized.

Just wanted to let everyone know that Todd and Craig's The Perhapanauts issue #5 will be out the 14th. If you haven't checked the book out you really should. It is a great book and a labor of love for Todd and Craig

It really deserves all the fans it can get.

Issue 5 is not only the end of the first story arc but it also features a back-up story with Lines by Jason Copland and colors by Me. It was allot of fun to do so keep your eyes peeled for it.

Once it comes out I will post up some colors.

I know allot of people get down on them, but whatever, I love most of their music. Been a fan of theirs since the release of Ride the Lightning (back when they were first accused of selling out..lol). The new album is sounding awesome from the clips and songs I have heard so far. Sounds like a good mix of old thrash with some of the groove of the Load/RE-Load stuff.

Money is a little tight right now since a publisher I was working for has decided not to pay me till who knows when despite what the contract says :angry face:

Steve Frank has organized a Auction to benefit the March of Dimes. He has a bunch of sketch cards, by many well known (and not so well known) Comic Artists done just for this up for auction. I am working on issue 2 of Worlds of Dungeons & Dragons as well as a few other things that I can hopefully show later on.

I finally got my Cintiq after some shipping issues and so far I really dig it. Still trying to get it set up so it feels good and comfortable to work on but I am getting there.

Been trying to load some new pages up but for some reason DA doesn't want to let me. I keep getting some kind of script error and I am just too busy at the moment to try and figure out the problem.

I am pretty happy with my work on it so far. I am no where near satisfied with it all but I do feel like I have made some progress using a more painted style. I have definitely learned some new things and a few things have started to click that I have struggled with for a long time.

3. I am a Huge Metallica fan. Have been since "Ride the Lightning" came out and even belong to their fan club.

4. I play guitar (not very well though).

5. I have been happily married for almost 14 years.

6. My wife was my first real girlfriend.

7. ElfQuest was the first comic that got me into comics.

8. Anthrax's song "I am the Law" about Judge Dread is what sparked my collecting of comics when I was about 12.

9. My favorite color is Green.

10. I like Dr. Pepper but can't stand Mr. Pibb.

I also just launched my new website [link] . It is pretty much just a online Portfolio but it has some cool rollover effects that allow you to see exactly what coloring can bring to a page.

There is also a blog there where I will try and keep stuff moving along hopefully it will encourage me to update things a little more.

Aside from relocating from Texas to New Mexico, my sons Birthday and the Holidays I have also been doing some coloring gigs. The first to see the light of day is Hack/Slash: Slice Hard. I only did a couple of pages (24 & 25) and had to match the other colorists style that was already established so it is not my best work ever.

Next up should be issues # 19 & 20 of GI Joe: Americas Elite. I can't post up any pages yet but once it comes out or some preview pages are put out I will post a few up.

Whew well I think that is all for now. I will try and keep things updated a little more reguarly (yea right).

Oh also I am open for Coloring Commisions. If ya have something that ya want colored let me know and I will check it out and get you price quote and time frame.

BAEG TOBAR TO LAUNCH “FALL OF PILEAUS” WEB COMIC

September 20, 2006 (Blue Springs, MO) – Baeg Tobar, a premiere online, shared world community of creators of fiction and art, is pleased to announce the launch of their newest Web comic. “The Fall of Pileaus,” written by Baeg Tobar veteran Joseph Wise, tells the story of the coming fall of a great empire, which even the seemingly omnipotent Emperor Pileaus cannot stop. Illustrators Jake Richmond, co-creator of the game Panty Explosion, and Chris Summers are working with Wise and letterer Jason Hanley to bring the Web comic to life every Wednesday, starting September 27th.

"In many ways, 'The Fall of Pileaus' will be the flagship Web comic for Baeg Tobar as it deals directly with forces that will influence just about all the stories in some way, shape, or form," Jeremy Mohler, founder and owner of Baeg Tobar, said of the story. The creators began work on the project in March of 2006, involving many of the other Baeg Tobar writers and artists in the initial stages, as a story of this scope has a drastic effect on the shared world.

"What excites me about this project is the scope," Richmond said of the project. "Drama, action, conspiracy, war, politics, betrayal and fierce characterization. Everything I dig in a good comic is right here. If I wasn't drawing it I'd still be looking forward to reading it every week."

“The Fall of Pileaus” is the second Web comic launched by Baeg Tobar, following “Stoneteller,” which debuted on September 11th, 2006 and updates every Monday and Friday. These are the newest projects for the Baeg Tobar site, which currently hosts six serial novels that are updated with new chapters once a month.
