I ordered a Wacom tablet

Wednesday evening I ordered a Wacom 6x9 Bamboo tablet and Friday morning it arrived!

I've been using it since then and though I'm a little rough on it I am having a blast. There's a pretty steep learning curve at using a tablet but I'm getting more and more used to it as I use ArtRage for some random sketches

I've wanted a tablet ever since I was a teenager and now that I have one I couldn't be any more ecstatic. The only flaw is that it could be too distracting and I might forget to do my assignment due this week for programing

Uni update

I recently uploaded my deviations that were assignments for my Electronic Imaging and Design class. I'm quite happy with the results and I'm sure I'll be marked well on it. The upcoming assignment has me on edge though as we have to create a photographic essay and I have virtually no photographic experience

Though the final part of the photographic essay requires us to make a gallery in Flash and I'll probably ace that portion the photographic aspect still worries me somewhat

Sports

Celtics up 2-1 on the baby Bulls.

I'm literally watching the yankees beating the Sox for their first encounter of the year

Happy Easter

Its been a while since I last updated my journal for dA (since Baseball season ended actually lol) and now I'm updating it for you all

First off, Happy Easter. Whether you celebrated Easter during the Orthodox weekend or this weekend or don't celebrate Easter at all and just celebrating the break I hope you have a great few days.

Now unfortunately the last few months, particularly during the holidays from uni, I haven't been as frequent to dA as much as I'd like. But since March I've submitted two deviations which are Political AIDS poster and Website Design.

I have a few more assignments due for uni including a a re-vamp of my GUI which would have to do with my theme for my political poster and my self-portrait of a machine which hopefully would look awesome. I've been planning some animations too but I'll work on those puppies after I'm done for the semester hopefully

Baseball season has started
The Red Sox started great this year with Beckett looking like the best pitcher on the planet but subsequent games by Lester and Dice-K weren't as impressive. But hey, at least the Yankees are having a terrible start .

For my design class I had to make a design blog which I regularly update but I've been lagging behind lately so I guess I better update it soon

Ugh I have this class called Web3D, which is based off x3D which is the successor to VRML, and I struggled to complete my assignment for it. We had to create a 3D Rubik's Twist (Snake) and animate it with its solutions amongst other things.

This was a difficult assignment because a) We have little knowledge of the language in our first 4 weeks of class in which we essentially learned nothing, b)Its more of a logic assignment rather than testing our Web3D knowledge and c) the submission process HAD to be done with the Universities UNIX turnin method rather than the easier and clearly superior alternative which every other course with the exception of ironically the IT courses at RMIT which is online submission from home via a system known as Blackboard.

But no, I had to go all the way to uni, arrange a folder on an OS I'm not so fluent in and submit it using odd commands due to me being 3 hours late

Uni semester over

Greeting peeps . I have finally finished uni this year so until exams this November I'll have time off till next March which means I'll be looking to churn some stuff for you peeps.

ALCS

Well after my beloved Red Sox went down 3-1 to the Rays after woeful performances by Beckett and Lester in games 3 and 4 my Sox were able to crawl to victory in a game 5 rally and game 6 awesome outing by Beckett + bullpen.

So earlier I was really hyped for the Game 7 clash between the Sox and Rays pitting "Lights Out" Lester against against Garza so I was optimistic. The game was fantastic, BoSox got an early lead before the rays were able to capitalize of a shaky 4th and 5th inning by Lester.

So the Red Sox are down 3-1 and failed to score in the Eight inning stranding 3 men on base and infuriating me. So its suddenly the Top of the 9th when inexplicably THE POWER SHUT OFF!

Needless to say I went spastic, called the electric company and found out the power wouldn't be back so I went to sleep and punched the wall.

The Rays won in the end and good for them. The Sox shoulda won Game 3 and payed with their lackluster hitting. I'm not gonna blame Josh Almighty, he's hurt. Lester was awesome and we exhausted him and Dice-K delivered. All 4 aces were just that: Aces but the cards were overplayed.

I mean we can't have Papelbon pitch EVERY pitch....

Second video is a lovely painting with some kind of video to go with it unfortunately I have to sign in some website to view it and I won't do that. The painting itself is tremendous, the colours particularly well done.

Nature Lake is a fantastic image with a lovely water which just looks amazing.

03-Concept Cars Posters is an awesome collection of concept vehicles. Colours are awesome.

Percept is a lovely self representation of personal objects. The warped nature of the devices as well as the overall style of the image is fantastic.

I've haven't been paying much attention to dA lately, due to various reasons partially due to v6 not friendly with me so I want to see some new artwork some of you guys are up too!

My bro's b-day

My little brother finally turned 18 (no more lending my ID to him )so we went to the city last weekend to celebrate.

We went clubbing to Bubbles which I liked but was too crowded. The best time to go was actually 7am but by then I was too tired and scattered to fully enjoy the lesser crowd and better music.

I would go into detail what happened that night but I would rather not divulge personal details on the Internet

Semester start

2 weeks ago I started my second semester on Uni. I did very well last semester getting 3 High Distinctions(HD) and a Distinction (D) for Business (after the lecturer's attempt on my life clearly failed she just got me a lower but still very good mark).

This semester I'm doing Design for Interactive Media 2, Programming 1 (learning Java ), Multimedia Engineering (Studio time) and Business Ventures (shudders).

For design I'll be doing an interactive adventure for "The Three Little Pigs" (non-linear story) and something called "My House" which I'm sketchy on atm.

Euro 2008 tragedy

Well I'm borderline in tears and rocking away in the fetal position after what transpired today in Euro 2008. My beloved Croatia dominates the math for 119 minutes over the hapless Turkey before Klasnic scores from a fantastic Modric cross! I was ecstatic!

90 seconds away from victory the unthinkable happens as Turkey scored from a miracle volley in the 2nd minutes of stoppage time!

The whistle was in the refs mouth as they scored.

I virtually spasmed as i collapsed in disbelief as Turkey, a clearly inferior team, lucked out in the second consecutive game to equalise Croatia.

_{Fun fact: Turkey have led a total of two minutes during their two victories in the group stage}

As I saw Croatia choke on penalties I was completely inconsolable as what i though were sure picks to make the finals of Euro were defeated by a lucky Turkish team.

*sigh*


Other Happenings throughout the week

Surprising to you I guess is in fact my week was A-okay prior to my mental breakdown some 30 minutes ago. I had two exams this week which were easy as pie and Boston Celtics won the NBA championship in DOMINATING fashion!

My dA birthday







Evening peeps! Its just about midnight here in Australia making it the 31st of May marking one year of me being a deviant.

11,000+ pageviews, 100+ watchers and 26 deviations later since my nooby days were I had to walk 12 miles in the snow to get half a pageview.



I have goals for the future such as churning out more animations and improve in photoshop as well as to learn illustrator. Also I'm challenging myself to gain the same skill level as Tony, , who is just awesome with his 7 years of photoshop skills and kills anybody else in our uni in any sort of design.



Uni semester over

Well my fist semester of Uni is over and I've calaculated that so far I'm on High Distinctions in ALL of my classes except possibly Business which I'm currently on a Distinction but considering I stayed up till 5am typing up a 5,000+ word report last Tuesday hopefully that and my exam result will push me to a HD.

The only thing I haven't completed yet is my animation which I will by the end of this weekend so look out for it. Can't wait till next semester, going to finish my Design work really, really early so I can coast and skip classes throughout the semester.

Hello peeps, just a little journal update to let you guys know I'm still alive!

Above is a horribly compressed but entertaining intro that has been eating up my time for our engineering class. It's a lot of fun to do filming and such and when we finish it next week I'll be sure to show you all!

I hate my Business class

Well for our entrepreneaurial class we often dress up nice and do presentations on Case Studys and the norm. We had to do an epic Case Study (which won't be hard but too much reading) tommorow and guess what!

My team member stabbed me and my buddy (friend, guy whatever Canada ) right in the back by pretending to offer to do the Case Studywhilst we worked on the research portion of our other report next week.

Little did we know he only offered to do the introduction because he won't have to DO any work whilst I have to answer questions on something I don't care to read.

PhunDMC, the subject matter of our video

Well peeps today my Engineering group and I began filming our video assignment for Multimedia Engineering. We borrowed $10,000 worth of equipment for about 3 or so hours and we filmed most of the scenes from our "Current Affairs/Today Tonight" parody.

It was so much fun filming today! We did a scene by the Creative Media building car park a scene in which the reporter (Antonio) was to surprise the PhunDMC member (Carlos) with a sudden interview and Carlos running off with me shaking the cam for emphasis.

It rocked

Next we stopped by the nearby Melbourne University campus and we created false interviews with 3 of my group member's friends. They turned out very funny especially the last one in which the person asked if we had a permit (you need a permit to film in the city streets, $600 provided by the council)

But it was not all laugh, giggles and risking damage to expensive equipment today. Today on the train ride back I saw my Business Lecturer (who hates me as much as humanly possible). I avoided eye contact as much as possible but her eyes pierced me as much as daggers.

_{The reason she hates me is because I'm "disruptive" in her lectures. Though true, she should lighten up but instead sent e-mails threatening to fail "certain" students if the behaviour continues.}

Rain Fairy is a picture of a water fairy full of delight and colour. The style is lovely as always and something about the atmosphere of the images makes it seem somewhat magical.

Well I finally finished my folio for Design for Interactive Media, however in my haste I reused many images I had already done before

My three folio pieces (each worth 10% each of my final mark) are Metamorphosis (transition from one state to another), Movie poster ( I did a children's film so I didn't need to use stock images) and a Stencil simulating graffiti artwork which has a powerful message in it.

My Metamorphosis was an underwater piece in which half of the image is a simple underwater environment combined with a half of the image with the environment contaminated by radioactive pollution. This was easily my least favourite piece out of the three.

My Movie Poster was a simple design of a kids poster. I reused by rabbit I did for my animation excercise and did simple text effects. Its rather simple but I like its simplicity _{due to the lack of effort needed}

My stencil is probably my favourite piece out of the three. Its a little cluttered and refers to the political leader of Zimbabwe Robert Mugube (odd due to me being quite apathetic to most political issues).

Sports season!



Well people Baseball season has started and the NBA playoffs have gotten off to an exiting start.

As always I root for the Boston teams so Red Sox nation in me is coming out in full (I bought a Red Sox hat!! ) and the Celtics are dominating the hapless Hawks in the NBA.

Also Kansas are national champs, wtf was with that.

Well today was the first day of school and boy was I cursed!
Well today I had to return two library book that I borrowed a few weeks back from the enormous RMIT library with it's 17k+ books on it's shelves. The two I happened to be returning were enormous books that I didn't read because of their sheer size. As a result for the early part of the day my bag was heavier than a bag carrying heavy books.

wait...

Anyways the point of the story the straps holding my stylish yet non-durable bag completely snapped. Well the left strap at least. This happened in the middle of the road at my train station so I was forced to retrieve my bag in the middle of the road full of speeding cars. Anyways shortly after arriving at the station I forked over $5.50 and gotten a daily ticket and headed straight to the train which arrived 15 minutes before my normal train. Funny thing was, after entering the train I had realised I lost my ticket!

After desperate searching through my incredibly heavy bag I was forced to get off at another station to buy a new ticket because entry is quite impossible to the city without a Metcard. I caught my usual train oddly enough 1 minutes later and all seemed to be running smoothly because by that time I had made a makeshift connection for my left bag strap to a lone zipper on my bag, thus allowing me to hold it again.

After arriving at Richmond station it was announced that the train, for unknown reasons at the time later being revealed to be a gas leak, was going to bypass to City loop and arrive directly to Flinders street station bypassing my stop at Melbourne Central.

After figuring out how to use a tram I wound up at RMIT a full 30 minutes late desperately asking where building 108 was. Turns out it was 5 streets down back the way I came

After going down the wrong street and embarrassingly asking for directions I wound up across the street from the RMIT business school. In a rush I ran across the street paying little interest to the slow moving tram. Little did I know my bag's straps would fail AGAIN :angry: , this time both straps giving was and sayonara to my second favourite zipper (I rank them numerically)

I quickly grabbed my bag and darted by to my side of the street however I was crushed by the tram and left there to die in agonising pain...

No actually I was perfectly fine if I remember correctly. Anyway I arrived late to my first class, took a two hour break till my first Interactive media session which was basically like a Yr 12 media class except with only the back row answering/heckerling the lecturer and with I as co-head answerer/heckler/completely immature person.

My last session was from building 94 to building 108 in 10 inutes to make it on time which was completely impossible considering it was 7-8 streets away and 8 flight of stairs :exhausted:

Half an hour into my final session the head of the media announced that we Multimedia students had double booked some classes today which we already have on thursady.

So basically I had to fix my timetable but I sat through the two hour lecture with stride. After leaving for about half an hour for a smoke break of course

Orientation Today

Well I had Orientation today. boy was it draining. We learned the basics of UNIX today and it's like learning how to use a computer all over again.

The first 3 hour orientation session wasn't strenuous. We learned the basics of UNIX and changed of passwords of our accounts on the Windows server and two Linux servers so I left with an hour and a half left because what we were doing in the last 90 minutes we were going to do in my second session so I spent the next 2 hours and a half wandering around the campuses.

The second session started out in frustration. The computer lab we were in had computers which couldn't log in. After waiting for half an hour we moved to another lab which had heavy air conditioning which was refreshing on a hot day like today. The workload was something else though. I've never seen in my life so many people abidely work on continous excercises written in a booklet for two and a hlaf hours when it wasn't a neccessity to finish it. I myself went for two cigarettes during the time but I still worked like a dog to finish today's work and did it in two hours. But it sure was hard believe me

I left at 8am and came home at 6pm so it was a full day.

=Jiyuu-Chan is a Canadian deviant who specialises in photography and manipulation. Her work conveys emotion remarkably well and nearly all her work are aesthetically pleasing.
She also has a very good collection of poetry that range from amusing guides to immersive tales.

Sonnet CXVI is a photo manipulation complimented with a poetic quote from William Shakespeare (hence the title).

Ophelia in Winter is another photo manipulation in which a women is floating in a stream during winter which a soft yet striking sunlight shining through trees in the background. A lovely image.

You have no idea is a rather raw piece with Jiyuu-Chan herself as the model in it. The blue hue conveys a great atmosphere in this picture as well as her posing furthering the emotion of the image.

RMIT Enrolment

Today I enrolled into RMIT University so I was very excited and exhausted. I woke up at 5:45-ish because I set my alarm for 6 and my clock happens to be 15 off minutes ahead . But that didn't deter me as I got myself clean and ready to go.

My father accompanied me to the City for Enrolment as we caught the 8:05 limited express to the city, getting off at Melbourne Central. I knew that RMIT was about 5cm away from the station but did that stop me from getting lost despite going to it twice before? After about 15 minutes of wandering halfway to Geelong me and my father asked directions off 3 different people. Apparently only the second guy was accurate as the first lady sent us in the wrong direction and it was apparent the third guy had no clue.

I got the 10.10.3 (Building 10, Level 10, Room 3 for you humans) at about 9:20 ish so I quickly confirmed my enrolment as my father and I had Cappuccino's and I had the most deceiving Sandwich ever created. Pumpkin, lettuce, capsicum, what I believe to be creamed cheese and bread (as if it's the trendy ingredient in sandwiches these days). The Pumpkin and bread was delicious whilst the lettuce and capsicum was completely inedible.

As 10 o'clock passed by I was at my opening lecture briefing my course outline and what type of stuff we will learn as well as the many aspects of the university we had to get used to. There's a small amount of people in my course which is a good thing because a) it's easier to get in too and b) I can befriend easily since we'd have to be a close bunch. I am surprised for the first time in my life I have several other Asian students in my class. Usually it was just me and maybe somebody else but it's a strange feeling to be with a majority that happens to be your race. RMIT First round offer
Good news everyone. I received a first round offer for the highest course I had left that I didn't put down merely as a pipe dream. Multimedia Systems (Design) at RMIT was the course I really wanted to do, even more so than Games Design, so I am absolutely ecstatic

RMIT Interview

Well on Tuesday I headed over to RMIT university for an interview in Games design. I'm pretty confident in how it went as one of the interviewer's loved my animation and they were generally interested in my ideals for the Gaming Industry. I know I did better than the guy before me as he went in without a portfolio and just ran on about games like Halo 3. I was prepared and I felt it flowed rather well and were satisfied with my ability to storyboard and interpret images and structure of narrative.

Future prospects

I'm planning a few animations in the horizons so look forward to that. I'm hoping to eventually plan, storyboard and animate a flash rendition of "The Little Match Girl" but right now my priority is too learn actionscript so I may learn the programming aspect of flash gaming and maybe churn out some games.

RMIT shortlist
Well I'm glad to tell you lot that I am shortlisted for one of the courses I applied for. I did two pre-requisite kits for RMIT and the sent my an e-mail back saying I was short listed for games and Design. Funny thing is I was sleep deprived on my Games design storyboard and it turned out badly whilst whilst my Animation and interactive media story board was aesthetically pleasing and far more clever. I don't know whether they mixed up the storyboards or something but I'll address the issue at the interview process which would be at the 27th. I got the show a portfolio ( digital as well I think) as well as some of my past animations some it seems quite exciting.

Examinations
Well I have completed 5 exams so far. Some rather difficult, some rather easy.
Chemistry was difficult this year because it didn't focus on my specialty which is energy and rather a large abundance of food chemistry questions and some galvanic cell questions.

One more exam to go and it's for my best subject: Media. I expect to ace the exam but I am preparing my contentions as well as furthering educating myself in the fields we have studied in.

Well after staying up for more than a full day, consuming 5 cans of Red Bull, coffee, Pepsi of the MAX and normal variety and other forms of caffeine I was finally able to complete my prerequisite kit for my Animation and Games design courses for RMIT university. Twelve A4 pictures, 20 postcard storyboards (10 for each course) and a half page double spaced application thing and it is now over. I was happy with my storyboard for animation, turned out really well and I'm considering animating it after I'm done with exams so look forward to that. My second storyboard I'm not so proud of because the punchline was weak and my skills kinda dwindled due to sleep deprivation. The A4 pictures...well some I liked and some I really wish I didn't submit.

Overall it turned out well. Yesterday I handed them in to the RMIT office in the city. Nightmare to find because I unfortunately happen to be a moron that I could miss a university across the street from the train station I got off at :S

Took me an hour of walking randomly in the city but I eventually found it.

English Exam= Fin

I finished my English exam. I was quite satisfied with my performance. I aced the language analysis, wrote a pretty good speech based on the Ronald Reagan speeches I've been listening too lately and my essay were pretty good. My first essay on the film Look Both ways (it sucked but easy to write on) was really good but my essay on 1984 wasn't as good due to the question being really ambiguous not really that important to the text.

The question was:

" Nineteen Eighty-Four shows that hatred has a more powerful effect upon people's actions than love"

The end of school, the beginning of exams

Well my Year 12 education is finally over. As of Wednesday 24th of October 2007 my days of a high school student is finished with only the peril filled exams left to encounter. During our Graduation ceremony last Friday I'm glad to announce I actually won the Media award for being the top media student in my school, something I'm most satisfied with.

Currently I have about a week or so until my first exam, English. My exam schedule is as follows:

Friday 2nd November VCE English Exam

Friday 9th November Math Methods Exam 1 (non-calculator)

Monday 12th November Math methods Exam 2 (calculator etc)

Wednesday 14th November Physics Exam

Thursday 15th November Chemistry Exam

Monday 19th November Media Exam

I'm quite happy with my schedule as I have a whole week to study for Math's and most my exams hav adequete breaks to study with exception of Physics/Chem as they are only a day apart.

However preparation for my English exam with have to be second priority at the moment as my pre-requsite kit for my application to RMIT university is due on November 2nd. I intend to finish it before that date so that I may prepare for my English exam for optimal performance.

Overall I am satisfied with the final result though I admit due to time constraints the animation may have gotten sloppy. Also the audio isn't the best. I apologize deeply for that.

I was able to successfully convert it into an Avi file and have submitted as my final product for my media class.

It is school holidays right now where I am however it doesn't feel like it with the amount of workload I have to do. Not only do I have to complete my major production for media I have to revise for classes such as Methods, Chemistry and Physics. Holiday classes are running so even though it's the holidays I still have to go to school


Media: Major Production

Well it's starting to come along great. I do it in about 6 straight hour blocks then rest for a few days so I should be finished really soon. I found a great swf to avi converter,
Swf2Avi I am very satisfied with it so I will probably complete my editing on Sony Vegas 6.0

If I keep my current work rate I should be done within a week however there are some key issues yet to be sorted out yet which may set me back. But I shbould be finished before the due date and it'll be ready for Topscreen so i am satisfied.

Well it looks like I'm starting to get a move on in my major production. Getting scenes done here and there, and the pace I'm going at right now I should be done with plenty of time to spare. However to be fair all the scenes I've done so far are less intensive and are non-dialogue. Lip-synching and such will be annoying, not to mention adding music and sound effects to tie the project together. gee, now it's seeming more and more difficult by the moment :S

Anyways, beside the point I am doing great so far, far ahead of other students in my class who probably haven't even started yet. I hope my animation would be good enough for Top screen, so i can showcase my animation to a large audience.

Greetings fellow dAers. I am physched right now cause finally my internet is running fast again, faster than normal I might add!
i found out the problem! When I upgraded my optus broadband thing to Siemens SpeedStream from D-Link the person who handled our account screwed up on several accounts.
Such as:
#1: Misspelling our last name as a username and sending details to us on an account that doesn't exist completely disregarding our previous account
#2: Signing us up to a weaker deal with a 300mb limit a month. I exceeded that limit in a matter of days so I was being restricted!

But everything is over and my internet is faster than before so I am phyched!

now i can enjoy my fellow daers work as well as get inspiration to continue my animation for my major production.

Note to self: Buy microphone

Hello one and all! It is holiday time and now I look forward to spending the next two weeks relaxing, learning how to drive and tearing into Flash 8 to get my major production for media underway.

It'll be fun spending all this time into animation cause I never really spend more than a day working on little animations here and there so a major project like this will test my resolve.

Internet Trouble
The primary reason why I haven't submitted a deviation in such a long while is because my Internet is fluctuating from being really really fast, to so slow it can't load a dA page. It's weird, because I'm upgrading my broadband soon, I have the equipment just need my Service Start Date to start, but out of the blue the internet became really laggy when before it was incredibly fast.

But since the month started again it's been fast again, so i assume I must;ve exceeded by Download limit last month and that's why my comp is so slow.

Anyway....Chemistry and Physics were a drag but i think I fared well. I just did a GAT and apart from 2 questions it was easier than Paris Hilton on a Friday night. So now I'm a little drained but I'll get onto other stuff.
