I have a Subscription!

I'm So excited!!! Someone was kind enough to donate a subscription to me. I don't know who it was, but hopefully they'll read this journal and see how grateful I am.

When I first logged in and that "welcome new subscriber" page came up, I was like "Huh? I don't have a subscription." (I'm slow at 8 in the morning.) Then, when I realized that someone had donated it to me the words "HOLY SHIT," just fell out of my mouth and I think I might have cried a little.

Besides being happy about my new subscription, I was also really touched by the fact that someone who probably doesn't know me very well, would go out of their way for me like that.

All that's left to do now is figure out how to use it.

If anybody knows of any tutorials on how to make journals look fancy, please give me the link!

I have a question for anyone who would like to answer it. I'm thinking about putting some non-self portrait photos up on dA of me modelling. Do you think this would be a good thing to add to my gallery? Tell me if there is any particular stone, color(s), or style that you want, and for necklaces and bracelets, tell me the length you want in inches. You can give as little or as much detail as you want, but if you want something specific I would suggest you give as much detail as possible, otherwise I'll just use my imagination.

The average prices are as follows, but something very extravagant would of course be more, and something more minimal would be less.

This is my first attempt with an SLR digital camera, and the pictures don't come out nearly as nice as film. Originally I was working in film, but since I was the only one in the class using this slow process it put me really behind. I feel like I'm sacrificing quality for speed.

What's worse is, these projects have stripped me of all my good ideas. Normally, I'll just go out take picures of whatever I want, and they usually fit together all by themselves because they're all made by the same person, so they have similar flare. However, this time we have to create a body of work, where we have to plan out beforehand what the pictures will have in common, and it's really throwing me off, because it's forcing me to rely on my logical reasoning rather than my intuitive reasoning, and logic and art simply do not mix.

I'm sure I'll get through it okay, though. It seems like my proffessor likes my ideas, even though I feel they're not my best, and he's been going easy on me since I fell behind. This is going to be one of those "I'm glad I did it, but I'm even more glad that it's over" type of experiences.

So, if anyone's been wondering why I haven't been commenting or posting anything, that's why. I'm not dead, for those of you who were worried. I also have this massive watch list, now that I'm not on so much, and I simply can't comment on all of them, but it kills me to delete them all, so I'm still looking at them all one by one, little by little. See how much I love you guys?

Today in class my photography teacher just informed me that I was almost chosen for one of the awards. It was between "The Listener" [link] and another person's piece, but the nature of the award lended itself to "generic work that could be hung in an office" as my professor described it. The judges loved my piece but decided it was a bit too creepy for that award, and knowing that makes me proud. A person from my deviantwatch sent me a copy of the new submission policy, something I hadn't seen yet since I haven't uploaded anything in a while. I have a few questions about this policy, particularly section 3.

I read it through a few times very carefully, but I want to be sure that I understand it correctly. Please correct me if I'm wrong. When an artist uploads their work, dA automatically has a licence to use it pretty much as they wish and can grant the same licence to other parties without the permission or knowledge of the artist, and if dA makes any money from it, the artist sees none, even though it was his/her work to begin with.

What confuses me about that, though, is that in the same section it says that the artist retains all rights to the artwork. However, if the work can be used without the artist's knowledge or permission, then what rights have they retained, besides credit for producing the work? This brings to to another question which was not specifically adressed in the policy. When and if dA decides to use the uploaded work, does the artist get credit for producing the work? I would assume that they would, but it's always better to ask.

If my comprehension of section 3 is correct, is there a chance that it could be amended?

Also, I'd just like to mention that the submission policy is not easy to understand, and it's possible that someone might read and agree without actually knowing what they are agreeing to. Even I had trouble with it, and I'm not by any means intellectually inadequate. It might be better if you could express the same thing in simpler terms, and at the time of submission, give people the oportunity to read both the simple version and the legal version.

I'm going to cover an entire canvas with wads of chewed bubble gum to give it this funky texture, and then I'm going to paint over it. I'm not sure what I'm going to paint, yet, but I've got a while to figure that out.
