Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, “Common Sense,” who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:



- knowing when to come in out of the rain;

- the early bird gets the worm;

- life isn’t always fair; and

- maybe it was my fault.



Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don’t spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).


His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.


It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an aspirin to a student, but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.


Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses and criminals received better treatment than their victims.


Common Sense took a beating when you couldn’t defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.


Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.


Common Sense was preceded in death, by his parents, “Truth” and “Trust,” by his wife, “Discretion,” by his daughter, “Responsibility,” and by his son, “Reason.”



He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers – “I Know My Rights,” “I Want It Now,” “Someone Else Is To Blame,” and “I’m A Victim.”

Last night I bought City of Glass.

Read it in three hours.

FRICKIN' AMAZING BOOK.

Even though I found two typos in it. Which kinda sucks. D:

"Threre's" instead of "There's" and "Is is" instead of "It is."

Yup.

SO good.

So content with the ending. You have NO IDEA how pissed I was until like, midway through the book; even though I kinda didn't believe what was pissing me off.

I need $3000 to go to Fort McMurray, Alberta.

This is all happening around the beginning of August, which, I don't know if you know this, but a VERY short time to get that kind of dough. I think I can barely scrape by if I get $2000, but some food money would be nice.

If anyone knows ANY way to help me make cash, other than getting a job, because I'm trying to do that too.

If anyone has odd jobs, like, snow shoveling, or anything that needs to be fixed, or just even a babysitter, catsitter, dogsitter, WHATEVER.

Exciting, right? 3 more years until the world ends; whoo!

my birthday is in a moooonth, on February 14th. I'm going to be 17, and it's going to be a good time.

I'm thinking of going away that weekend. (It's the first time my birthday's been on a weekend since I was like, 9 or 10.) I'm really excited for it; I think I'm going to take a trip to PEI, or New Brunswick, since those are the closest two places I can go without driving several hours to get to Houlton, which is when my family's timeshare is, currently. (Sometimes we switch it all around, to like, Florida and stuff.) It's good stuff! i'm pretty excited about that...

Other than that, nothing really is new with me...

A lot has happened during this year, it's crazy, it all seems like a blur really.

I had some problems recently, and ealier in the year.

I'm actually working on a new story, it's kinda sad, kinda happy. I've been keeping it under the wraps a lot, trying to keep it a secret, I even changed the name of the file on my computer to keep it from my family, so they would read it. It's pretty much about me, only it's a character I made up to represent me, and it's starting at the beginning of this year, (Jan 1st/New Years eve.) Some of the people included in it will be my boyfriend, parents, brother, and some friends.

It's not all about my life, it's more or less about my world. MY world, hah. Seems kind of arrogant, eh? Well, I don't really care... I want people to see things like I do for once, instead of trying to cram their ideas down my fucking throat.

Anyway, yeah. That's about my story. Moving on.

Recent events in my life have been making me rethink some of my choices in life. My friend, let's call her... Alice. YEs, Alice... she's been in some trouble lately. I'm actually really worried about her. She's battling a battle that she's not going to win. PEople keep telling me to leave her behind, but I just can't, she's my friend. It's like if a little kid was drowning in a pool. You would save them even if you didn't know how to swim. It's called panic mode. I go into it a lot when I'm stressed. YEah, you might think that's bullshit, but I don't. It happens. Everyone gets angry, and everyone can punch someone the fuck out if they think that they can. Alice though, she's different. She... changes. A lot. It scares me somedays, I don't know what way is up, and what is down when I'm around her. She's fun to hang out with, then I hear shit about her that just makes me want to strangle her somedays. Reguardless, she's one of my closest friends. I can tell her anything, and she wouldn't tell a soul. And some people who know her would say that she's a liar, and that she'll tell everyone my secrets... She hasn't told one of my secrets. She's my only secret keeper. I can't talk to my best friend from age 5, without her telling someone. With Alice, she could be telling everyone in the world, and I would believe her that she wasn't. I trust her with my life.

The rouble she gets herself into somedays scares me, but I'll just have to learn to deal. it's not worth dropping a friend for. reguardless of what people say about her, or me. It doesn't matter, and I don't care. We're friends, and it's not about to change.

Onto other things...

So today, I got my science exam mark back. It was a 66%. Not the best, but I'm pretty proud. It took a lot out of me to study for it. Even when my parents said that I wasn't. They wouldn't know, it's not like they have camera's in my room watching my every move, and if they do, well fuck them. lol.

Anyway, yeah. my mark was a 34% in Science. the exam brought it up to 46%. So I'm elidgible for a mark recovery, in which they combine your second term mark with your first term mark, and then get above a 50. (There's 2 terms in a semester here, and my Science class in split into A & B courses.) : ) So I'm pretty happy about that.

Other than all that (holy crap that was a long journal.) I've been starting to draw more and more.

I have a trade waiting for my half, and since my room was cleaned yesterday, I can finally find a place to hook up my printer/scanner. Whoo. : ) it should be pretty sweet. : o So I'll have more art soon I PROMISE... you can slap me if I don't. lol. <3

Anywhoo, I should get back to class, I'm supposed to be making a newsletter. (for Applied Information Technology.) lol. I know that sounds fancy, but it's really just about how to use computers, which I learned in like, grade 1. xD Anyway. Yeah, that's it... I'll have more updates later. <3

The gfirst thing I saw in the new year was my boyfriend. That made me really really really happy. You have no clue how happy he makes me guys. Like... You know that feeling you get when you see movies like P.S., I love you, and The Notebook? And you cry because it's so beautiful? That's how I feel when I think of him...

But anyway. Since it's 2008, I thought I'd make this journal entry count, since I only get one shot at a true first journal of the year.
