In the meantime, I fixed a picture, finished a long awaited Christmas present, AND drew up a quick home-warming gift for a friend...

I'm still working on a few other projects, one of which is making a piggy bank of sorts (I looked all over and most stores in town DO NOT have any) so that I can save up for my koi half sleeve, inbetween dealing with work and family...

*Sad News: The local ArtSpace Gallery has closed due to the current economic recession and the fact that this part of Iowa is a farm community...Art is not really praised much here, so not many would shell out the necessary funds to own original pieces of work unless they were extremely cheap...so for now, every bit of art I make will go to friends and people who make impacts in my life...oh well, it'll get better*

Life has been hectic and currently my brother is in town for a visit...his lucky ass has been in SoCal the past year and several months, during the two worst winters we've had in Iowa, as well as the deep freeze we had a few weeks ago and am currently still thawing out...

I've got several projects I'm working on, two pastels and an oil painting...and I need to finish up a pair of shoes for a friend's Christmas present...

Now I'm off to take a nap...the past few days of my vacation have been up and down...and many late hours...

I've been on several shopping trips to Ragstock in Iowa City and am slowly, but surely, rebuilding my wardrobe...

Anyways, other to jump out and declare a celebration on my art block being gone, I just wanted to announce that I have set a goal for myself to join the local gallery we have here in town and get my art noticed...everyone's been telling me that I should sell my work and not give it away and I figure, since the cost of living is rising and art supplies have never been cheap (even though I don't use "namebrand" supplies, preferably the generic Wal Mart oil paints with reasonable Rembrandt Pastels), that it would be a hobby to have that will hopefully pay for itself...

If I could just sell like two at like $20 to $25 a piece, then that pretty much covers my supplies that I need when I am running low, instead of scraping for change, hoping that it will cover the cost of a small pastel set or several small tubes of paint...as well as paper, canvas, frames, and whatever else I need...and then anything else that sells, that's money in the pocket...

Anyways, I better be off...I'm really not much in a ranting mood and I have to work on my job's Halloween decorations...this year, my bank branch will be dressing up as the Disney Princesses (I'm Jasmine because I wasn't quick enough to lay claim on Belle and didn't feel like fighting for it...it would have been a stupid cause anyways) and I'm drawing individual pictures of each princess to place in our advertisement holders through out the branch...and I've got five placers, each at 18" by 24"...on top of creating the mirror in Snow White...I've got help creating the castle parts, but everything else is mine, and I only have three months...if I procrastinate, it'll only make things harder...

I also wanted to say that the since pretty much the whole state of Iowa is under disaster declartion, I figured I'd let those who look at my page know that I'm safe...or as safe as its going to get...the county that I'm in is completely cut in half with all the flooding, BUT the flood is predicted to receede by tomorrow...

So, yeah...other than uploading some pictures of what I worked on today, my day off from work...and wanting to address the "FLOOD OF 2008", everything is fine...only thing now is that I'm trying to figure out how to market my art, since now that's all I'm doing on my off time...it'd be nice to see my work in a published book at one point and time...

Especially since I feel that my art is evolving into something that I can be proud of...more often than not, I find myself making pieces that I enjoy, not only doing but looking at...not that I'm falling in love with everything...because if I did, I'd keep it all, instead of giving it away...I'm getting better at seeing my mistakes and fixing them on the next picture I do...which I think is awesome that I'm finally able to see that...not that I was ever egotistical about my work, but I did forgive more mistakes when I was younger and more naive...

I think that its great that I can see the improvement as well...too many times do I remember the "artists" that I went to art school with the first time around and felt how inadequate my work was...Now, several years later and world full of experience between me then and present, I have stumbled across their work on sites associated with the school I went to and I'm afraid to admit that I don't see a single improvement...not that my work is any better than theirs, just that, for as much talent and determination they supposedly had, it doesn't look like their styles evolved much...

There are a few that have evolved, I might point out, but the vast majority, especially the ones that made me feel inadequate, either intentionally or unintentionally, I feel haven't really moved past what they were doing...of course, though, that is just my opinion...and the fact of, since I lost touch with them, I'm unsure of what they've been through...

Oh well...atleast I feel that I have surpassed what I was back then, a confused, angry, and procrastinating 18 yr old who didn't take art seriously to the wiser, more peaceful, and not so procrastinating (there still are times when I do procrastinate) 23 yr old who not only takes art seriously, but is considering how to market it...

Anyways, I've got a few other things to update and then spend some time with my husband...

It was that virus that infected your computer full of spyware and told you that you basically had to pay like $40 to $45 for a program that got rid of it...I nearly trashed this computer and bought a new one...

Thank god for little brothers who are computer geniuses...

BTW, new still life pastel up...with more to come...and some oil paintings hopefully within the next few weeks...

Aside from being full of rage right now with a situation that I have no control of, I wanted to take some pictures of the old stuff I have hanging around here as well as work on the start of my portfolio...

I added some old shit from back when I went to an art college up in Minneapolis, MN to become an animator and be considered awesome amongst my peers...

Yeah, I dropped out after about a year...once I hit the computer programs part...I could do minimal programs like photoshop and illustrator, but I had problems with the other programs, especially the 3D kind...and even with tutors, I couldn't even grasp the concept of them...so as it stands, I'm computer stupid...*sigh* oh well, such is life...

On the portfolio part...I've been wanting to make one for the longest time...it'd be something great like a coffee table book or just something to pull out everytime someone asks me about my art...

I get kind of tired of my mom and husband dragging people down to my little dungeon of a room and showing them everything I've done...even though I do have stuff hanging in the front room...I just figured if I could do something like that, then I wouldn't have so many strangers crowding my space (in real life, I'm not a very sociable person and can sometimes take awhile to warm up to people...though I have gotten better since high school and there are a few people that I warm up to right away) and I can be left alone...it also doesn't help that my job is with a local bank that has a branch inside of the local Wal-Mart...yeah, I started at the branch and am not sure if I'll ever leave it...but it does wear on me and sometimes I just don't want a ton of people around me when I get home or have some days off...

So, in order to do the portfolio, I bought a binder, some tabs to split up the catergories, and some protective sheets...I also priced what it would take for Wal-Mart (I'd go to Kinko's or Office Max or something, but there isn't one in town and going out of town with nearly $4 a gallon for gas isn't something I'd do, being frugal and all) to make my 8 by 10 sheets...it would be around $2 a print, take about 2 weeks for them to be made, AND there's no guarantee that they'd look as nice as I want them too...

I talked it over with my husband and we decided that with the little bit of money his parents sent to us, I'd replace our computer's printer that pooped out on us several months ago with a photo printer that also scans and copies things...I'm excited and can't wait for Friday when I get it...

Well, I'm off...got a few things to do before I settle down for the night...like planning several more pictures and possible projects involving vases and my own comic book...

And I present my newest picture, Caterpillar of 2008...it will make it's way over to her once I get the black lines to dry...

I'm currently working on an idea of making my own portfolio...I figured since I recently backed up all the files I have of my work on the computer (especially good since that I don't own half the work I have anymore...its been given away, thrown away, lost or stolen) I would gather the materials and get 8 by 10 prints of each printed and place them in plastic covers and in a book of some sort...figured that it would be something to have on a coffee table or displayed in a bookcase...plus, it'd be helpful to show people my body of work when they inquire about it...

I also need to get my head out of my ass and work on my next two drawings...I was waiting to go to the closest art supply store out of town, since my town doesn't have anything past the local Wal-Mart...but gas prices just kept going up and up, so I broke down and ordered through utrecht.com...excellent supply store and reasonably priced (shipping as well)...

I bought another 18 by 24 inch drawing pad, which I'm very excited about since I only have 3 blank pages left in my other one...and I went out on a risk and bought black pastel paper...19 by 25 inch...I'm so excited to work with it because I had colored paper at one point and time (which it disappeared in our move back to my mother's place), but I never came up with a good idea for it...so now, I've got 10 sheets of black pastel paper and atleast two ideas for it...

The first being a homewarming gift for another friend...figured it'd be a picture of a Jack Daniel's bottle and a shot glass full of the alcohol...I think it'd going to be awesome, especially since I picked out a (*gasp* another new idea) white frame for it...

The second idea for the black paper is doing a comic book cover based off of my husband's character Pacho...I just haven't figured out how big to make it or what I'm even going to do...just no idea...

But for my recent idea, I'm going to make something for a coworker who sells Mary Kay on the side...I figured since she's just starting out and doesn't have much for her office...I'd do something for her, still life/makeup wise...very excited and hope to have it finished by Monday...

Anyways, I've got to go take a shower...kind of feel dirty and stinky...

I did have some doubts, when I first saw the trailers for it...I thought maybe it was just another way for Disney to rake in the dough...kind of like all the sequels to their 'Golden Age' movies...such as the little mermaid movies and the Cinderella movies (thought Cinderella III was pretty damn good for what it was)...
I full recommend the movie for people to watch...if not for the story, for atleast the animation...

The next movie I wish to see is 'Sex and the City'...I know, I know...went from a family film to an adult film...but for as long as I have been a fan, I've been wanting this movie to happen...and can't wait for it...

Well...just wanted to update the jounal along with a newly updated picture...

Well, now is a time to do as much artwork as possible in order to keep sane...

I'm just updating this journal for now, for I am currently going through my never finished paintings and wondering which ones I'll finish and which ones to toss...I've also found a few new homes for some of my work...

Guess I can consider it 'Spring Cleaning' in the sense that spring is here and I'm cleaning out all the old...making room for the new...

I do have a few projects lined up, one of which is drawing some of the Halloween decorations for my bank branch this year...we're all dressing up as the Disney Princesses...and I'm doing stained glass windows of each princess we dress up as AND figuring out how to make the place look like a castle...next, several fairies here and there for some friends who do not have any of my work...I have too long neglected them...and too long have they wished for something of mine...

And finally third, working on a few self portraits...I'm not entirely happy with my looks...I love my personality, and will never change it (this, of course, after years of going through mental and emotional trials to find who and what I am)...looks though, that's another story...perhaps I'll dress up and stand with some of my work around me in certain places...or I'll just draw myself...either way, I need a new ID...

Well, I must be off...its nearly 9 pm here and I have to be at work early, say 8:30 am...

I'm still working on the oil paintings...I've run out of a few of the paints I like to use and am currently waiting for an eBay auction to end so that I can get two 12 bottle sets of oil paints for like $12.00...that'd be sweet...and much better than spending like $20 or more at Wal-Mart to get cheap paints...and waiting until my taxes come in to head up to the closest Dick Blick's...

I really wish that there was a Utretch in town, but I do have access to the website and I receive the resource guide...I just need $180 for this one oil paint set I found that comes with a full set of oil paints, several canvas panels, a wooden box, several paint brushes, a palatte knife or two, and a traveling easel...I promised myself that I'll have it by spring/summer so that I can paint outside with it...

Finally, my art blockage is gone...I posted a new piece that's currently in progess...and I hope to have it completed by the end of the weekend...

I'm calling it 'isces Koi'...it's my first time drawing a koi...or even a fish of any kind...and it has my birthsign, Pisces, incorporated into it...I'm also very excited by the bubbles...I can't wait to finish up this piece and hang it somewhere around my mother's apartment...it will be so awesome...

A lot has happened...I couldn't afford my apartment anymore, so we moved back into my mother's...by we, I mean my boyfriend and I...

My brother moved to California...and to correct myself from the last sentence, my boyfriend became my husband on Oct. 19...I've been getting a lot of mixed reactions and disbelief...followed with tons of "WHY DID YOU GET MARRIED?!" Well, people...I got married because I love him and was scared about his health...we couldn't afford his health insurance through the state, so we're adding him onto mine...and the next person that asks me shit like that will get a "I Don't Know" or a bitch slap...I haven't decided which yet...

Anyways, Christmas is coming up...even though Halloween hasn't even passed yet...all I know is that this year, I'm totally going to be prepared and have everyone's present ready to go and not cover it all with one check...which makes me broke for like two weeks...and I can't get everyone what I want to get them...
