I got my SAT scores back, it was okay (higher than my PSAT at least) but I still need to take it at most three more times. Grr...

I've been planning for art college in Japan, but since there's a lot of complications it's pretty tiring/worrisome so I get really exasperated when I think/talk about it. At the very least, I'm just focusing on keeping up my GPA (it's the Asian thing to do).

Anyways, while checking my messages an artist I watch wrote a journal about a suspected case of art theft. I'm not going to go into the details since they're not important, but I wonder how you guys feel about linking to art theft/copy suspects?

I mean, if it's obviously your work (as in, copy-pasta'd onto site kinda of theft) then you'd report it to the site's moderators right? But should you really go and say "Hey guys! This person stole my art (I think)! *insert link here*" so hordes of people can go and basically insult the person? (Even saying "credit plz" is an insult if the person didn't do anything) *Douchebag thieves/rip-offs are an exception.

The problem here is that the suspected thief may NOT have stolen the work. Because 1) she drew it herself using her own character and (supposed) imagination, and 2) the work itself is done in a very general format (a glasses-character looking down at the audience while his/her face tilts up) and honestly, various other pictures are the exact same.

I'm not saying the suspect is definitely not suspicious--especially concerning how identical the pictures look--but what if she was innocent? She'd have to face a whole flood of flames for a crime she may not have done.

I mean, if the artist really thought her work was being stolen through non-tracing/copy-pasta means, wouldn't it be best to just give the picture, not the link? This way, other people can see if it's actual an rip-off and not just the artist's own imagination/ego/doubt/etc. Though if the artist is popular (like the one "stolen from"), it wouldn't work since most of the people would be fans and would just agree with whatever he/she says. >:[

I just keep thinking what if the person didn't steal it? Not only would that person have had to endure insults and "credit plz" for a false crime, the "stolen from" artist would've publicly humiliated herself by giving so much grief for an innocent person. Cuz if this ever happened to me and I didn't do it, I would be given the impression forever on that the "stolen from" artist was a jerk whose popularity and overthinking went to their head.

HOWEVER, if the accused really did rip-off the artist's work, then they are pretty sad and should be banned if necessary. Though I'm still not sure if they merit an internet bashing....

I joined....3-5 years ago, lol. I forgot how I came across this site, but I liked the art and figured I could improve my skills here. It seemed a lot better than FanartCentral at the time as well.

There's a logo-like....mascot? of Weekly Shounen Jump that looks like a pirate version of Mr. Pringles, that's where it came from. I don't read Shounen Jump as much anymore (since they don't have D.Gray-Man) so I kinda want to change it...

1. Ai
1) Lol, the very, very first Ai concept was created on a whim actually. She was a pretty weak girl, but after meeting Noah she decided to go and make the world "beautiful". Noah named her Ai because he believed that love was necessary to change the world.
2) I was trying to create a manga concept with an actual plot line that I could actually work on. I like to recycle character designs a lot so the previously unused character of Ai became the main character.
3) Ai changed a whole lot. She was first a character that was weak and scared but I never developed her beyond that. Then she changed to a character in a story concept that was quickly scrapped (the first concept of Odin appeared along with this Ai, who was a lot more adult and mature). Then I thought of WISH and the current Ai was born. She's more or less the same with a few minor adjustments.
4) There're a lot of facts about Ai, but they aren't that amusing in my opinion. Though with Odin (who attracts so many women it's not funny (to him, at least)), she has a somewhat paradoxical relationship. She doesn't allow Odin to actually go with any female alone since he'd lose his virginity that way; but that doesn't stop her from pushing his reluctant form towards hotels and telling him to seduce the owner for a cheap/free stay.

2. Sei
1) Sei's kanji is the one for "blue", and since her color is blue it just stuck.
2)I drew Sei spontaneously during math class last year, I wanted a character that had a color that identified their character. I felt that silver was too boring and common, so I chose blue.
3)I'm currently reworking Sei's character so that she's more round and dynamic. Design-wise she hasn't changed at all; though personality-wise she's become a more easily annoyed person who's overly serious.
4) Aside from her normal drink, coffee (which she will only drink pure black), Sei really likes strangely-flavored things. Right now, she really likes cucumber-eggplant drinks.

3. Leo(ne/ne Mendollini/nardo the Vinci/nardo the Vincitore)
1) The first name (Leonardo the Vinci) was created from my inability to think of a good name. You can tell where I ripped it off from (he's not even artistic). The rest came from manipulations (Mendollini just came from somewhere) of the first name.
2) Leo was first created as the typical "mentor/wild card/smooth" type of character for KARMA. I think his design was also spontaneous; he used to have a curly strand of hair (like Italy's from Hetalia) that he could never fix.
3) Leo's changed a lot from being just a character from KARMA, depending on which Leo you look at (there's...four in all I think?). His personality generally stayed the same, though he lost the curly. Ha ha. Right now, he's in Tears of Rainbow, but I might reinstate his original character of that of KARMA (and WISH?).
4) During the early days of KARMA, Leo disguised himself during the day as a girl (using some kinda of magic). I'm not sure why but I think it had something to do with the fact that he had to hide from somebody/thing. Lol...

i haven't been very well rested lately, adding that to the stress kinda made me sick. it's only a headache, sore eyes, and a runny nose (which may or may not be a separate case), but it kinda sucks. at least there's no fever, i'd have to go to the hospital (seriously).

my school is kinda freaking out over swine flu in a very subtle way, the students have a fever gun pointed at their foreheads to measure their temperature, if they have even one degree above normal they have to get checked over.

there's like, no more time to draw anymore but i'll still try and upload some stuff.

i went out shopping with my mom and apparently while we were having lunch the rest of the world shanghai was being rained on.

FOR AN HOUR.

which meant that once we started driving home (it started raining on the way as well), we encountered rivers and lakes of rainwater. the front gate of our complex was sandbagged and we had to go through the side entrance. everybody else in the complex was out of their houses trying to dump out all the water. our garage was completely flooded--even though the door was closed--and it ever went up to the stairs to the first floor. i had to spend an hour an a half blowing out the water.

btw, have any of you guys ever experience style change frustrations? i find that my style often changes as i get better, or become influenced by the mangas i read, but lots of times there's a kind of in-between period where nothing's very definite. so what happens is that i draw the same character over and over but the style changes every time, so they look like different people.

so my final scores are back, and they're not as bad as I thought (I even got a 100 for my English term score!). but now that i'm going to be a junior next year, a lot of insecurities are resurfacing.

i've played piano for a decade now, and it's never been a good experience for me personally. my mom was pretty strict about it, never letting me quit (though she has made promises that she would), and i pretty much hate it. but i can't really hate the piano (since it's an object) nor my mom (no matter how much i want to), and i think the real reason why i don't like the piano is because it's too big a part of my life.

i've always wanted to do something with art for a career since i was really little, and now i have a more definite goal to work towards. however, school and piano and other time-wasting factors (transportation) give me little time to draw. i even have to resort to drawing in my classes just to draw something. basically, i feel like i have no time to focus on the thing i really want to do. school is mandatory and transportation can't be helped, but i feel like i'm focusing too much on piano. all my decisions circle around the piano. if i go out with my friends, or join a club, or do something for the community, will i make it home in time to practice piano? should i study for my finals or should i play piano so i don't have to make it up? (my mom makes me practice extra for any time i miss) even when i opt for going out or studying, the fact that i'll have to deal with the extra practice later just ruins my mood or concentration.

i've really thought about it, but the piano really has no place in my life. i'm never going for music, sorry, not even for a hobby. my mom seems that she is aware of the fact but keeps going with her "you can teach for money", which, in my opinion, is a very naive and inaccurate mindset. (unless you really can teach just because you played and be able to charge money for it) the fact that after i graduate and go to college, pianos will be next to unavailable to my also doesn't help.

i really wish i could draw more, i look around at people only a year or two older than i am and the difference between our skill is so much it hurts. there are days where i feel like i'm making a mistake going for art because my drawing skill and knowledge is so narrow that i can't improve. D:

also, come september i'm supposed to take the SAT. that's only three months away but i've never studied for it at all (due to other priorities), it's also hard to work up the motivation because i'm not planning on returning to the US for college. and i'm also going to Japan for the whole month of August on a study program, i doubt there's much time to study then. and even if I pass the SAT, the bigger problem is the JPLT which i'm also planning to take next year; i haven't been able to study for that as well. all these things are just popping up and i'm not prepared for them.

do you think it'd be hard to voice your opinion? especially if your art skill is lower than they? i'm just wondering how people would react to this.

to be honest, if this happened to me i'd probably comment on it, but it kinda makes me feel hypocritical since my art skill is lower compared to many that i admire, and that i'm not a professional in the field i'm commenting on either.

the same goes for the other side. what if you were commented on or even critiqued on a piece you did by someone of lower art level? would you feel insulted, or take the advice seriously as coming from someone who knows what they're talking about, even if it's only knowledge.

1. What does your deviantart name mean and why did you join this site?
I like reading manga, especially shounen manga. Most of the manga I read are from Weekly Shounen Jump, and for some reason they have this weird pirate for a logo-thing, I'm so intrigued by it it became my username. CAUSE EVERYBODY LOVES PIRATES. This is either my second or third account, the previous one was my first account taken from a never-used nickname, the very first one (which was never used) was when I thought that my gender, like Sheik from Zelda, was the greatest mystery in the internets.
I joined it for the pretty and because I felt I could improve my art here.

As expected, the fatigue, along with stress and possible low blood sugar, caused me to almost pass out in my Japanese class. The teacher told my mom I "fell down and fainted" (I didn't fall nor pass out though) and almost gave my mom a heart attack (figuratively).

After that, I ate some candy and my lunch, drank a shitload of warm water, and took a nap. I feel fine now, but I still have to take a blood test tomorrow. D:

What I feel I don't deserve is to miss 12 points on a section because of my calculator.

The thing is, my calculator does not give out answers in pi form--such as pi/4, or 3pi/5--everything comes out in decimals. So instead of pi/4, the actual value of pi being divided by four comes out (0.785...).

This is a major problem when my test asks for the exact value of certain answers. So while the answer I gave and the pi form answers are the same, I still missed all of those points. I didn't even get half a point, even though I did everything right.

Since I can't get those points back, I'll just have to deal with the grade curve the teachers are giving and buy a new calculator. D<

Life sucks.

The main character, Oga, is the strongest and most demon-like delinquent around. While beating up some punks one day, he sees a strange baby pop out of a strange old man. It turns out that this baby is the demon king's son (and the next demon king) and the baby, Beelzebub, has chosen Oga to be his parent. Oga also has to deal with the baby's maid, Hilda, who comes to the human world to watch over the prince. With the responsibility of being a demon prince's parent and indirectly saving the world from destruction, Oga struggles to live a normal life.

I think the way they portray Oga and Beelzebub's relationship is pretty funny, mostly because Oga wants to get rid of the baby or face being influenced by the demon world. However, all the scary faces and the beating up and the general acting like a demon is what pleases the baby (being the demon prince and all). But if he sees blood, Oga getting hurt, or being separated from Oga too far, he'll start crying, which releases a million-volt electric charge from his body.

There isn't much plot right now in the story, but it's looking to be a good read.

I've dropped piano to take advanced Japanese lessons. Yay.

I've felt that time has gone by very quickly for some reason. When I was still in elementary school or middle school, it felt as though every day dragged on and I had all the time in the world. But now, I feel that nothing can be done with the amount of time I have (having long bus rides also doesn't help), before I know it, I'll be in 12th grade already with so little done. D:

That's right, JESUS, and BUDDHA.

What happens is that Jesus and Buddha are vacationing in Japan (posing as real people instead of two holy religious figures) and the whole story just focuses on their daily life events. They go grocery shopping, have fun at amusement parks, pay the rent, etc. It's a very light-hearted manga full of humorous references at Christianity and Buddhism. For example, Jesus and Buddha always wear t-shirts with phrases pertaining to their respective religion; Jesus wears a shirt in one chapter that says "My father and me and the holy spirit" which refers to the Holy Trinity while Buddha has a "Nirvana" shirt.

The thing I love the most is how human Jesus and Buddha are portrayed. They have their likes and dislikes and flaws. (Buddha, for example, does not like statues of himself. Jesus also is childishly selfish, which is rather adorable.)

There are only 5 chapter out, unfortunately, on OneManga, but more updates are likely to come later.

Anyway, here's another movie directed by him; it's called Millenium Actress.

This movie is rather interesting for it's storytelling. The main character is a director who goes to interview an old elderly actress who was very famous a long time ago, but now resides in solitude. He gives her a key that she lost a long time ago, and she proceeds to tell about her life. A unique part about this movie is that it incorporates her roles in the movies she played in with her real life experience. Therefore, the viewer can never tell if the events shown are true to what she is saying (ex: she was looking for the owner of the key, and is always shown as saying that she needs to find him. Likewise, her movie roles also relay those same lines thus blurring the lines between reality and fiction).

While this movie does not have the good-hearted humor of Tokyo Godfathers, nor the intense fantasy-like settings of Paprika, it is a movie that will touch your hearts through one person's struggles in love.

The three main characters are Gin (gruff, old, yet somewhat responsible...not), Hana (an okama aka crossdresser, energetic, and optimistic), and Miyuki (a teenage runaway girl who's full of sarcastic wit). And they're all homeless, living on the streets of Tokyo.

It's Christmas Eve at the start of the story, and the three go search for a present Hana found for Miyuki (a set of literature thrown out, which isn't exactly wanted). They find an abandoned infant in the recycling and Hana believes the baby to be a gift from God to them (Hana has always wanted a child despite being a man, and names the baby girl Kiyoko), and brings her home despite Gin and Miyuki's protests. After promising to bring her to the police the next day, Hana changes his mind and decides to find the parents of the baby, leading to the trio searching all over Tokyo with the few clues left in the baby's basket for the identity of Kiyoko's parents.

The whole story is very well planned, as well as a huge plot twist that adds to all the fun. It has a happy ending though, reflecting very well on the miracles that can befall anyone.

In other news, I have to go to school and take a test so I can move up to A level Economics. But since I had to return my old Eco. textbook for O level, I've gotta go tomorrow morning to borrow a book so I can study. I just hope there isn't anything on the test that isn't in the textbook like the last time I tried to move up. -__-;;

MANGA REC!

Some might know the anime of this story, it's Romeo x Juliet. Basically the same story but with a lot of twists, Juliet is pretty rocking though Romeo could stand to be a bit more manly. lol I've never seen the anime but I've heard that it's well done, the manga is a lot shorter and coming to a close soon it seems. You can find the series at OneManga though there're only 7 chapters.

I've been in Shenzhen and Beijing for the break so I've had no internet at all, right now I'm still in Beijing for the Chinese "niu" (only ppl who know Chinese will get the lame pun) year and my dad got internet.

Oh god, those numbers make me wanna cry. I'm gonna wait till I'm back at home before trying to clear everything out.

In other news, my fave manga series D.Gray-Man's mangaka has given out the reason for her three-month-long hiatus (wrist injury) and will be returning around April.

Even though I probably won't have internet, I'm definately brining my laptop the next vacation. It's also really hard typing on my dad's laptop.

I did ok for my finals, my math and physics were of course my worst but I did well in other areas. History was pretty low which surprised, and at the same time didn't surprise, me.

A more detailed journal will be written once I get back home.

So bascially there's a special machine called the DC Mini which allows the user to go into a person's dream and experience it, it is currently being developed and tested by a psychiatric center to help people by dream analysis.

Then things start to go wrong, very wrong, when it is discovered that some of the DC Minis have been stolen and are being abused.

The dreams are kinda WTF in some parts, there's also some (out-of-nowhere) romance but overall it is intense and amazing. The animation is something to die for.


I've gotten stuck on Axis Power Hetalia, god help us all.

Bakuman a relatively new series by Ooba Tsugumi(writer) and Obata Takeshi (artist). Many of you would probably know their popular works: Death Note and Hikaru no Go. This time, the story takes a more normal setting. It deals with the main character Mashiro, who likes a girl in his class named Azuki and to draw. One day, his classmate Tamaki comes up to him and suggest they draw a manga and publish it. Thus, the story begins...

It's a very interesting read, as expected of Ooba and Obata. The characters are very charming and the romance is rather cute. It deals with drawing manga, using real terms and aspects of it (I get some tips from it sometimes lol) and how companies such as Shueisha edit and publish their manga.

There are only 14 chapters out on OneManga, so enjoy reading along with the manga's progress.

I've gotten an English project about the story "Ender's Game". It's pretty ok, interesting at the best. The project I picked (there were choices) was to draw a comic of the scenes. So I'm gonna be busy for a while.

Kuroshitsuji (Black Butler) is one of the most amusing mangas I've read so far. It combines a nice deal of Victorian aristocracy along with the English underground and black magic. The main character is Sebastian Michaels, the notorious butler of the Phantomhive head, Ciel (who's actually only 12). There aren't many scanlations out but lately the scans have been picking up in speed on OneManga.

I highly recommend the manga, but not the anime. Though I guess the anime is good enough for some apathetic amusement.

It consisted of my black pants, my normal Converses, a long black hoodie pulled up (though it had short sleeves so that looked kinda funny), and my black scarf that covered my face (I could still see through though).

And it worked, people freaked out at the sight of a black...thing with legs (no arms though) screaming and running towards them. XD

If I had a picture I'd upload it immediately, apparently it was actually really scary. I scared a lot of freshman girls by attacking them (which was really just running after them sporadically).

Aah, that was fun.

I've always wondered if there was a tutorial that taught you how to make a tutorial. Or maybe it's too simple to put in a tutorial. I feel like making one one day, for simple things like panel design and character design and stuff.
