BUY IT HERE!!!

I've done away with my journal design for now, I have a new one in the works as I write this here journal. I've got a portfolio design in the works as well, going to integrate it with WordPress and a few other projects underway.

So as the title states, I almost killed myself in an attempt to be healthy, it's a bit of an exaggeration buttt a funny story none the less. When I was in high school I ran track, played football, soccer, ect. I was fit, I was in shape and running 5-6 miles was but a warm up run for me. Well I got caught up in school in my Senior year and didn't partake in any sports and barely had time to sleep let alone work out. So yesterday I decided, "Today is the day I start getting myself on track," the weather in Michigan was brisk and cool but felt nice once you'd work up a sweat... Had I made it that far. My mother jokingly said to take my cell phone with me in case she needed to pick me up, oh now how I wish I had taken that joke serious.

I attempted to do a mile run yesterday, not the best idea in 40 degree weather, when you're physically out of shape. (Everyone has this misconception that just because I'm skinny and look fit, I'm in shape, thanks metabolism but it's not the truth by any means). So I make it about 3/4's of the way through my mile run and spray the side of some poor chaps house with what was a Big Mac and French Fries from my lunch earlier that day. I then was finding myself back where I was in 8th grade, and asthma attack, I hadn't had one of these since then. Admittedly I was in physical shape after my last asthma attack, and since the ceased to be physical at all. So I put my hands above my head and power walk the last 1/4 mile.

My trouble breathing increases, I'm getting breaths, but it's still that suffocation feeling. I walk in the back door, my mom looks at me smiles, and starts to say something, before I even hear the first word, I black out and hit the kitchen floor. Now I'm on a breathing treatment for the next few days and docs orders is to take it light, and work up to it. I'm not disappointed in myself at all, 3/4's of the mile after being what you could say the laziest twat on earth, isn't bad. It gives me something to work for now.

In other news, I have a new project underway, another pair of shoessssss.

This is the Photoshop mock up of the shoes. I'm going to have to solve on how doing the black and pink pin stripes, I've been using a vinyl film to mask the areas and paint, and using a heat gun, I can heat it up and peel it off without a problem. Over that doesn't seem to really work with the silver area. I'm thinking of just applying a quick coat or two of clear coat, to give it a layer of protection when I stick down the vinyl, so when I peel it up, I'll peel up clear coat and not the silver.
I'll figure it all out soon enough.

In other news of my life, my parents are letting me put an office in the basement, which is rather exciting. Redoing my bedroom as well since I'll then no longer have a love seat, a computer, and my gaming equipment in my room. I bought a pair of high-top black converse all-stars, and a an all white pair of high-top Air Force ones. That's all for now, stay tuned for the finishing of the shoes.

Turning 21

So some of you may or may not know, I turn 21 on Tuesday. I figured I'd write this little journal to explain why it feels so odd to me. I'm not a partier, I don't drink, never really have and I have zero desire to do so. And I guess as a 21 year old American kid, that feels pretty odd to me. I'm not one to conform, nor will I change my views to fit the bill of a typical 21 year old. But still it feels odd. I've also been less than the normal +18 child. I've never been to a gentleman's club, purchased pornography, or gone to Canada since being 19 to drink either. I haven't even bought so much as a lottery ticket. The only thing I ever did was purchase cigarette's, and then they weren't even for me. Age has become just a number to me, as I don't take advantage or use the privileges given to me making it this far in life without dying due to doing something stupid. I guess that's just weird to me. Maybe it isn't, maybe it is.

MLG, GOF, and LIFE

Well sheesh, another journal only within 2 weeks of each other. I'm spoiling you guys!

Start off with the #1, MLG. Major League Gaming. Some of you may know and some of you may not, I'm a competitive gamer and avidly game Halo. I made it to disappointingly only one big tournament for EGL when I played Halo 2 (did a lot of small locals otherwise.) Well Halo 3 is a different game and I finally have a team I say I can trust and know we can help each other go far. We're looking to have our break out season in 2009. I'll keep you guys posted, first tournament is in April for us. On that note, if you guys know anyone that could help with a sponsorship (maybe paying our entry fee, our flights, or whatever please let me know, every little bit helps).

GOF - Gamers Outreach Foundation, very cool stuff you guys. Click here to view the website. I'm working closely with the foundation to redesign and code their MySpace. I have a design done but I've undertaken it for revamping already. Make it a bit more functional and useful, instead of just making it a graphical overhaul of the standard MySpace layout. So stay tuned for that. A huge LAN is being hosted February 27-March 1st and registration is open to come. It's at Eastern Michigan University, so if you guys can make it, please come. Game for charity, game for a cause.

LIFE - Okay this isn't an acronym for anything. Life is going well, I'm in my final semester at Macomb before I either A. go into a bachelors program right away or take a year off to work. I'm inclined to take a year off work, and catch my portfolio up to standards I believe to be acceptable. But anyways, that's all for now. I shall catch you kids later.

OH EMM GEE!

Well shoot it's been 6 months since I've posted a general, deviation or anything. Well guess what?!?! I'm going to post a new one in the next two days. Yes I've finally sat my ass down and cut a new stencil to print on a shirt. Astounding I know. And just to prove it exists here we go....

Yup there it is, it exists. All gosh, I cut the thing I'm not counting the lines I cut. It's going to be 3 different colors for the lettering. But instead of wasting more posterboard and such per color, I decided a piece of card stock will do to cover up the area's that need to be hidden while I apply each color. I just have to go to Royal Oak tomorrow to get the colors, as I'm doing this on a shirt I'm using screen printing inks opposed to when I used to use Spray paint on occasion. So there we go!

Here's another I did but I won't officially post on dA as the stencil work primarily belongs to TrueMarmalade.
So I've done work, just nothing I wanted to post....

Munny, munny, munny!

Mo' Munny, Mo' problems.

Alright, so I haven't posted any deviations as of late. Been quite busy with work. However, I should have a deviation coming up by late Sunday or Monday afternoon. There's a Munny art show in Royal Oak, at the LiFT that I'm partaking in. Though my entry is quite last minute, I have faith in myself to pull off something decent. This will be my first ever attempt at Munny, yikes. But I purchased Montana Gold Spray paint, and some Golden Acrylics which from the research I did, seem to be best. Tonight I'm going to sit down and sketch out my design, so I may post up a sketch shot, then Saturday/Sunday will be dedicated to fully painting it, sculpting, and customizing it. There will be a 1st place, 2nd place, Best Youth Artist (under 18), Best New Artist, (No previous entries or art sales), and then crowd favorite. So it'd be interesting to win one of the 4 I'm eligible for. I'm not putting to much into that though, just mainly want to have something to display.

Start of a shop

So, I haven't posted a Deviation in what, just over a month now? That's cool of myself. However, there is always that one factor I never foresee in life, and that's dealing with it lol. In the past month though, I've put together quite an idea for something that I hope to get started in the next month. Selling items such as custom shoes, shirts, hats, bags, jewelry, and the main flagship for the idea are the plushies that will be available. Of course none of this is being done without the help and touch of a lady. Who is this lady? Why it's les-cerceaux of course! At the moment we are both working quite diligently on getting the idea of the ground. So stay tuned for updates, and directions for where to purchase the items. Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer, I know I am (sometimes).

Sorry this got messed up guys, I didn't expect in a million years such a thing would happen. As said before, "Sorry this is restricted to people within the United States and Canada only." Thanks to a certain Deviant, finding it hilarious refresh my page and get the 5K view, doesn't want any of the prizes. How nice is that? Records, Battles, and... Dandelions?

Records:

Yesterday I ventured to my old hometown, as I found a listing on Craigslist for someone selling a lot of 50 albums for 25 bucks. Nice deal right? 50 cents a piece? Considering I'm just going to spray paint on them anyway. I go and pick them up, the guy hands me a huge crate, and I think to myself, "Damn this thing is heavy!" I get home and start looking through, primarily rap music, but that's not the important thing here. The important thing is, when all was said and done, there was 155 records... not 50 : D. A nice 16 cents a record. That should provide me with quite a few canvases to paint on for a while.

Battles:

I finally got off my ass and signed up for MarkerWars. I got a note from the person that runs it this morning for an upcoming stencil battle. I guess this first one will be up against a few heavy hitters, so who knows if I'm up to par or have the skill to compete with them, but as they say, don't dip your toe in the pool, just dive right in. I'm sure I have the ability to do so, it's just going to take a lot of concentration and focus on my part to pull it off. So hopefully I don't get my ass totally handed to me on a silver platter.

Dandelions?:

There are no dandelions, but there is a puppy! A brand new puppy : D. His name is Ferdinand and he's cute as can be. As soon as he sits for 2 seconds I'll snap a couple pictures. He's a Shih tzu, he's 6 weeks old, and flippin' adorable.

The Love Note: A Paradox

This is the title of the book I've began to write. A few people have seen the opening paragraph's to the book, which begs the question, "How is this a love note?" Which I guess is good, considering that if you don't now, you'll want to keep reading to figure it out! As far as that goes, the small excerpt I've let a few people read, I've received nothing but positive reviews about it. As stated by Truemarmalade, "you're fucked up."

Shoes:

I bought myself a pair of nice slip ons, and I'm purchasing the supplies to design them. So hopefully within the next week or two, I'll have a sample to show you guys.

Photography:

Well I was suppose to re-shoot some of the stuff in my gallery but that doesnt' really work when some of it is MIA lol, as I sold it or gave it away. So I'll have to redo them, which is okay, just going to take a few days. Also I need a better place to shoot, there is just not enough light in my room for my DSLR to properly work, unless I use flash and a diffuser. Which, actually I'll shut up because I just solved my own problem.

Media:
I'm going to start trying to different medias for stenciling, new to myself at least. I might take my girlfriend to Forever 21 to buy a nice summer dress and stencil the shit out of it. We'll see how it goes

The contest, far more formulated.

The contest is to create your own shoe design and/or skateboard. I will be picking two winners for each, 1 female and male for each. So four winners and all. You can enter as many times as you want!

Rules and guidelines.

1. Skateboard must be created in Illustrator, for file size sake, scaling purposes, ect.
2. Shoe design can be done in either Illustrator or Photoshop (I PREFER Illustrator), if created in Photoshop, please make it a little larger than the size shoe you wear or designing for.
3. Please use the templates provided, it's the reason I made them, also those are the shoes I will be replicating your design on.
4. Do not use any copyrighted images in your design. Please make it fully original. This means no Element, Volcom, no logo's or designs from major brands.
5. Keep it appropriate please, no half naked girls in a bra feeling up on herself.
6. Once I pick the winners, you will have 48 hours to submit the file to me to being the process of refining and readying for production. This 48 hour clock starts from the time I send you a note. You can either note me back, or I will leave contact information at the bottom. If you fail to respond in the given 48 hours, another design will be choosen in your place. Also recommend I'm always on AIM and MSN, send me a note for proof and an IM. In case something happens, and my CPU randomly restarts; or things of the like.
7. When a winner is picked, I will be picking one female slip on, and one male slip on, and then for the skateboard, I will be picking a male and female winner for that as well. Four winners in all.
8. I'm doing this for credibility to eventually sell shoes in the future, for reference on what a finished producted may look like, I advise you to take a look at =Bobsmade
9. A general guideline for the skateboard, I do have to hand create the stencils for them, and I can pretty much pull off anything you guys have in mind, so don't let that hold you back. But do keep it within reason.
10. This is not a fully assembled skateboard, with trucks and all. This is just the deck, so please be aware of that.

A lot to read, and a new contest!

Okay. So... I'm back. A few found my new dA, but I realized that changing my name wasn't going to help. I've always been and always will be Jacob Ryan. The only thing that has changed about me is my style of art, which isn't a bad thing. Also, my artwork wasn't getting no where near as much exposure as it did here. I'm not popular by any means on this account, and I'm good with that. Pageviews isn't what it's about, but I didn't like going and seeing that a deviation, something I had worked extremely hard on was not being seen. Not anyones fault but my own, I had built a little street credit here with the people on this account.

Now, for that t-shirt contest I'm sure all of you are wondering about. To my disappointment I didn't get too many designs that were print capable, so, with this being said, I have chosen ~livelyarsenic's design and she will receive 10 shirts, printed to her specifications. Nissa has choosen for me to do 10 small shirts, on a gray shirt. So everyone congratulate her for winning. I mean like seriously, go now and congratulate her! WAIT! I'm kidding, read this journal then go. I promise, it's worth it.

BUT! With that being said, I am announcing the start of a new contest! Yes, a new contest everyone! This one is a bit different, mainly due to the prize and what you're designing. There are two different prizes actually, yes, count them two! TWO! TWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! What are these prizes you ask? WELL WHAT ARE THEY?!?! HUH!!!!!!!!!!!! Shoes and skateboards! DUH! DUH! DUHHHHHHH!

As for real news, I'm going to be posting a lot more deviations and taking my existing ones and shooting them in a much more glamorous manner. I have employed a few friends/models to help with this (in the clothing aspect of it). Also, I will be doing a redesign of my journal. So stay tuned for that.

In life, I got a new job, it's not a dream job but it's doing layout and design for a tool company. They pay me very well, and the hours are great, so that I can't complain about. Especially since I don't even have a degree yet.

The Dove

To start off with, the contest, I've been very busy guys. I do want more entries, because in the month I extended I got a whole whopping one! I will end the contest now when I find three entries I see fit for print. On the news of that, I am purchasing actual screen printing equipment.

Now to the topic at hand, The Dove. Very few people know from DeviantArt, but a family member of mine passed away in late November; three days prior to Thanksgiving. To honor my Uncle, a man that was a second father to me, I'm starting the Dove project on myself. Something else many of you may not know is that I have tattoo's, 8 so far.

What is the Dove project?

In short it's a collection of tattoo's. What exactly is it? For each family member that takes the unfortunate trip into the next life, I want to honor them and take pride in the life they lived with a tattoo of a dove. Taking each dove and making it personal to the family member that it will represent, as the dove itself is personal to me. For instance, my late Uncle, the way we spent our Saturday's was in his living room watching U of M College Football. So for his dove I'm going to put a U of M football helmet on it. This is what I needs everyone's opinion on, would drawing the dove in a cartoonish manner (a style I personally like) make the tattoo lose some of it's meaning? Or does the style in which it's drawn not matter and the mean itself is the only thing that's important?

These tattoo's I've decided will grace the left side of my ribcage/stomach area, keeping them closer to my heart and having a reminder of that person I love so dearly on me at all times.

A Reposting

Alright everyone I feel the need to repost this, this is a review of the information that is crucial to the contest being held. I've been asked many questions through notes and journal comments, which all the information can be found in the original journal. But I will single it out for those you that don't feel like reading. (If you do not know what contest I am talking about, view that information here.)

DEADLINE!: DECEMBER 1ST, at 5PM EST (WILL BE PUSHED BACK IF NEEDED)

Seeing the way things are going, I will most likely change the deadline, if it does get changed I will notify everyone.

WHAT KIND OF DESIGN ARE WE DOING?!?

Anything you want, but make sure it's vector in illustrator so I can size the properly, or if all you have is photoshop, make them as big as you actually want the design in photoshop. You want a blood splatter 5 inches by 5 inches, make your canvas size 5 inches by 5 inches.

WILL YOU BE SILKSCREENING THESE?

NO. I'm hand cutting the designs with a razor blade on acetate film transparency.

The Contest

Yes, a contest. Aren't you all so excited? What's the prize? Well if you win, you get to keep your life! HAHAHA! *Cough* Okay, just joking. This isn't Saw I, II, III, or IV, so we'll skip that. Though, I am dying to see that flick, get it? ALRIGHT! I'm done with the dumb jokes, geeze lay off! Now really, down to the real reason you are reading this journal.

What am I providing as a prize for this competition? Well number one, I'm giving you guys a few deviations to throw up on your own DeviantArt. Yes, this is a sort of design competition with a prize and purpose. What everyone will be submitting to me is a t-shirt design. It can be anything you want, this is all for you guys. I don't have any stipulations. I have restrictions on what I can replicate and produce, but make it whatever you want. You can enter as many times as you want, enter once, twice, 400 times; I don't care. From all the submissions, I can sadly only pick THREE winners. The winners once announced, will need to contact me, because I will be taking their design that they submitted and making them FIVE shirts in the sizes they specify. The design can go on the front or back, where ever really.

Now what are the restrictions?

1. Don't go bat shit crazy with colors. I'm not made of money for starts, and it becomes a pain in the ass doing too many colors. Try and keep it down to 4 colors please.

2. Try and avoid excessive amounts of text, cursive/script fonts, and very very small text. I know this may suck, but I do want you guys to understand, I cut these stencils by hand on acetate plastic with a razor blade. I mean, I'm not a surgeon okay? However guys, if you have a great idea for your shirt, and it needs a script font, contact me personally, let me know and show me what you got. I will okay it if I like the idea, otherwise I will let you know.

3. Try and avoid floaters, I will explain and show you what this all in a moment. If it's completely necessary and you don't use a large amount of them, it will be okay.

4. Try and avoid layers upon layers of ink, once again, pain in the ass and is trouble when it comes to me cutting the stencil.

Here is an amazing example, the only thing I would avoid here is the stroked outline, it is possible to do though.

This, is awesome, just avoid any potential floaters.

Very cool, multiple colors, but possible none the less.

Simple cute, text isn't too bad, maybe a bit bigger, also the gradient wouldn't be possible to replicate but none the less a good example.

Totally cool, I would totally do this, just avoid doing the hands, that'd make me want to commit suicide.
