In other news that is warm and fuzzy. On Thursday 8th October (after the NZ Vodafone Music Awards) I GOT ENGAGED to my partner of 7 years (see more reason to buy my prints...haha).
Before you ask though...No, he didn't get down on one knee; it was the other way around (although still no "on one knee" thing). And Yes, I have a ring; he brought it a few weeks earlier.

I found out later in the evening after I had asked him and what not that he had been thinking about it for the past 2 months, just that he didnÂt know how to ask and I kind of beat him to the punch.

We are looking at doing the deed in October/November next year. It's a weird feeling...excitement and total fear all at the same time. It's such a big move to make.

So I think that is all for now. Will hopefully have a few prints up in time for Halloween...you know pumpkins and things like that!

What makes one successful artist different from the next is their level of success, where they decided to place the bar, how high they keep placing the bar, shifting it, and moving it, adapting.

We all have to adapt at some point. Things change, they never stay the same...or at least not for too long.

I have 2 months left of my DeviantART subscription and now I am asking myself am I successful or just not as successful as I would like to be?

It's the question that has plagued artists for centuries. We are so hard on ourselves that we donÂt see how good we really are; even if we hear it a thousand times we never believe it.

How do I get seen more on this site? A question that still plagues me after 4...almost 5 years.

Anywho so I don't rant on any more...what do you think makes an artist success and do you believe that you are a successful artist?

Push The Button Like This...

Another week (well not quite a week) and IÂm still not 100% sure on the benefits of having a premium membership.
I seem to have more people visiting my page now (although there is no steady pattern to it) and itÂs awesome to not have ads, choose how many thumbnails you view and change around the look of your profile, but other than that, IÂm like a priest without a little boy; not quite sure what to do (I can hear the hissing from here).

As some of you might know I can also be found on the JPG website. Not overly active on there, but last night I submitted my photo "Ellie & The Radio" for Nostalgia in Issue 23. Would be awesome if you guys could check it out and vote.

I have just started up a new blog called "119 Plus" on blogger.
119 days was originally the place of ramblings while a friend, ~Aflickion, was on his O.E. Leading up to his return & since his return IÂve wanted to continue blogging (like the geek I am), so now we have 119 Plus, the place where we rant on about music, events, art, fashion and whatever else comes up.

Tomorrow I'm working as an extra on the set of Outrageous Fortune (a New Zealand drama); should be a fun day. Then itÂs haul ass into the weekend.
Face painting for Roller Derby on early Saturday evening, possibly doing body painting a friend for Godskitchen, then there is the task of getting myself ready for Godskitchen. Hopefully manage to make it into Ginger Minx at some point over the weekend (it would be nice, but it happening is wellÂup in the air).

Then it is time to get ready to the New Zealand Vodafone Music Awards. I found out that I won a couple of tickets this afternoon, thanks to Vodafone. This all means that I have to find something to wear and I have to say it didnÂt take much deciding. IÂm not going to give it all away yet, but expect to see some new custom stuff sometime over the next week. Good way to get yourself out there huh?

I have been thinking long and hard about my art and what I want to do/achieve lately. I think it is time that we give it a good hard kick up the arse, but it is something I can't do without the help of you...my followers. To help encourage you to help me promote my work, over the next few days I am going to go through all of my followers and either comment or favour some of your work. So if you have a certain piece that you would like me to check out let me know.

One of my goals is to get a DeviantART subscription so I can really go to town on this and show other people your fantastic work via my journal. But at the moment itÂs all just baby steps.

I canÂt believe that it is already August. It's quite scary, especially when I'm competing in the body art section of Style Pasifika in couple of weeks. This year is my fourth year in this competition; I really have a good feeling about what I am doing and I have to say I am really proud of the progress I am making on all the additional bits & piece that will make this body paint pop.

Also canÂt forget...a good friend of mine has just come onto DeviantART and has started putting up some of his photography (just of his OE at the moment, as he is half way around the world and doesn't have originals of his other work). Anywho you should pop over and check out ~Aflickion BUY A PRINT...he has some beautiful work, but IÂm bias...ahem!

ItÂs been a month since I last posted somethingÂalmost sound like I should be in church confessing something...haha.

8 days to go till the 2009 NZ Body Art Awards. And I have to say this year IÂm not at all worried about the competition. I donÂt mean that in an egotistical way (eg. IÂm way better than the other, they ainÂt got nothing on me), I mean it in a IÂm totally relaxed about this way. ItÂs a first really.
It is also the first time since my first year entering (2006) that I will only be entering one section. This year I take on the Hand Painted section, but sadly at this point I donÂt want to give much awayÂhowever I can say it is based on Horimono (Japanese tattoo).

The event is being held at the Bruce Mason Center in Takapuna on Saturday 25th July. Tickets range from $35 Â $95.
If you donÂt want to or canÂt make it to the Body Art Awards a group of us are going to be hanging out at Ginger Minx after the event (from about 10.30 Â 11pm). So if you are in the area or would like to come hang out head down to 117 Valley Road, Mount Eden.

Today the North Shore Times interviewed me about body art. So if you live on the shore, look out for it. And if you are from overseas, I will have a link up for it as soon as itÂs online.

I have been busy lately working on a couple of tv programs as an extra and also create a few new goodies (Biccie & Doughnut Pendants), they are super duper cute and for sale. So if you want one or any, hit me up.

So I guess you could say that I have been M.I.A lately, but what's new?!?!

I haven't been up to a hell of a lot of late. I should be sorting out my designs for body art awards, but I'm not and I have to say I'm not overly fussed by it this year. I guess it's because I am in a different head space this year.
I don't feel like that I have to do it to get my name out there, it's purely for fun this year...so I guess that's why I'm not phased by the impending doom that is July 25th 2009. And maybe also why I'm not worried if I do it or not.

Lacking inspiration, lacking a muse...should be creating, but I'm not in the mood. Lots of ideas, I just can't get them out.

It's been about a month since I did any on scene photography (scene being club/nightlife/dance scene). I supose I should go out sometime soon.

Moved house the other weekend. That was a stress and a half as moving always is, but on top of moving I had 7days work as an extra on a new tv program that is being filmed over here in New Zealand (which meant I was doing anywhere between 12 - 15hours a day on set).
Still not settled in, but these things take time right?

RULE #1...don't be a dick!

I feel like one, don't know if I have been. Just in a bit of a creative funk...

So I have been super busy lately...well not super busy, itÂs a nice level of busy. But itÂs that type of busy where one project takes up a lot of your time.

LetÂs see...
Friday night (April 24th) was The Season Premiere at Ginger Minx in Mt Eden. It was a very awesome night. I was body painting at the event (view here) and Ginger Minx was also giving away a pair of my Custom Painted Chuck Taylors on the night. So it was very, very exciting for me.

I had also been painting a dress for Kyla Hei Hei for the Miss World New Zealand pageant all week. She popped into The Season Premiere to pick it up and the look on her face when she saw it was priceless. And since Aflickion was there we got some quick photos of her in the dress. This weekend we are doing a photoshoot of Kyla in the dress, so you will have to wait till to see photos (unless you are a member of the Facebook fan page).

On Saturday night I got a very unexpected and exciting text message from Kyla, informing me that the dress I had painted for her picked up Best National Costume at the Miss World New Zealand competition. How awesome is that? Kyla also picked up 2nd Runner Up and Best Talent.

Painted up a new pair of shoes this week, Pop'N'Lock theme, they are for sale (check em out). Have also made a few concept charms, have put the "Screaming Alien" into the coming soon folder AND IÂm just putting the final touches on a new character called Om Nom Nom. I think I am finally starting to take myself seriously as an artist...well starting to do something productive with my artistic skills. However this new attitude towards my art...what I do, is somewhat conflicting. I have never thought that you should take yourself too seriously with art. As we all know there is a massive grey area with art (What is art? What isnÂt art?), but there will always be people around that say art is black or white (I have been known to do this, although I never tell the artist because art is an expressionÂfor most people).

It is the black and white of art that has at times made me not want to study art at a higher level, but it is also the thing that has made me want study.
Studying art at university for me at the moment is "a nice idea". It would be nice to have a piece of paper that says, "yup IÂm creative", but do I really need it? I want it to have it, to say that I have it.

To attend university or not? I would really like a PHD in Fine Arts...that has been one of my dreams since high school, however I have always felt that I wouldnÂt truly be ready to do it till I was 30+. But now I am thinking I may already be ready (possibly been ready for sometime), that am just denying myself because I feel I will miss other things I want to do and because some people would prefer that I didnÂt become a student (basically holding me back from achieving a dream...see I should be allowed to think)

I have always thought that there is no possible way that you know yourself as an artist straight out of high school, and unless you have had a super shit life and some experience, what are you going to paint or create? WouldnÂt you just end up being a lesser version of your favourite artists? When you should be pushing yourself to create something original, something that is your best, something that is you!

IÂm serious about my art? Sounds like something that every artist should be, and I guess the reason I havenÂt been is because art is just something I have always done. Never really had to work terribly hard at it, it just comes naturally. I have never gone around saying how much I love art or that IÂm super passionate about it, but people somehow just pick up that I am. I also feel like a toss cock if IÂm that person standing there says "yeah arts my passion man", but I will toot my own horn and tell people about all the art I do.

The custom shoe painting is taking off and I think that has a lot to do with my change of attitude towards my art. IÂm not sure how I am going to make this serious, because sure I might be feeling that way, but it doesnÂt mean that the rest of the world sees it like that.
Website (needs re-designing & I need a domain), DeviantART subscription (maybe), business cards (need those by Friday), Facebook fan page (done that)...but then how the heck do you get your name known, without kissing ass or selling your soul to the devil?

My main goals for my art this year is toÂ
a) Become successful (make money from it)
b) Become known
c) To hold my first exhibition (near the end of the year)

Seems like a fair bit to do in 7 months, especially with how quick some months go. I think it is possible though, if I stick to it and really go after it. It just comes down to if I am held back or not.

Life throws you a curve ball every once in a while and lately I have had my fair share of them. Nothing seriously bad. Just a whole heap of ups and downs, that leave me thinking, "what the hell".

I have had plenty of good stuff happening lately, or plenty of stuff that has made me happy/brought a smile to my face. But if IÂm not on that happiness high, we start heading back to where I was heading around about this time last year. Seems to be this fucked up circle that I keep getting trapped in. It would be all rainbows and lollypops if I could stay out of it for more than a year.

Every time I start to roll down this road, I try to re-evaluate my life. And it always comes up looking like shit (well too me it does).
Sadly it also always seems to be the same things triggering me off (or close enough to be the same thing). And that trigger is something that I donÂt know how to fix with out getting messed up along the way, and it will be messy, I know it will be. There will be tears. Geez it all sounds so emo.

I know the right thing to do is talk it out with them and sort it all out that way, but GAH! How are you meant to say "IÂm not ready for that type of commitment, it feels like your rushing it now because you think you will loose me"?
Really donÂt feel appreciated sometimes, taken for granted. Cry me a fucking river, I know.

Everthing has been a bit confusing of late, and life really has been an emoitional rollercoaster over the last couple of weeks. I have bee overly inspired and then no inspired at all...a little bit jaded maybe.

I have been fairly productive when it comes to creating though, three new photo manipulations (I know it's been forever since I have done any) and some new photography.

Two awesome pieces of news...
1. Last Wednesday I flew down to Christchurch for an interview at D&A (Design & Arts Collage) for a job as a Special Effects Make-Up Design Tutor. I am in the final two. Now I am just waiting for the phone call to tell me if I got the job or not.
2. I sold some more prints (Thank you very much Tasha).

2009 NZ BODY ART AWARDS are on Saturday 25th July at the Bruce Mason Centre. The theme this year is Fantasia Asia, so there should be some weird and wonderful creations as always. I'm thinking lots of dragons.
ONLY 18 WEEKS TO GO!!! And I have so much to do in that 18 weeks...ahhhhhh.

Yesterday I decided that it is time that I gt a new camera, I'm had my current one for some time now and I really think I have gone as far as I can on that one. So I need something new. I was thinking the Canon EOS450D DSLR.

I have decided that I'm leaving DeviantART! just kidding. Seriously not something that I have been thinking about or will be thinking about any time soon.

What has been going through my mind since my last journal here on DA is that I think it is high time that I take my work seriously. I'm not saying that I don't take it seriously at the present time, I just think that I need to look at things in a different way.

As you know in 2009 I am wanting to become more recognised...successful with my art.
I'm told time & time again by friends how talented I am; but if I am so talented then why can't I see the positive out comes that you expect as an artist?

So in saying that I am going to go through a complete gallery overhaul. Editing, scraping and adding.

It's all to hopefully move further towards reaching one of my many life long goals, becoming a self sufficient artist.

How do you become a successful artist? What makes somebody a successful artist? What the hell makes you a successful (and popular) artist now days, with the internet (on DeviantART)?

Well we have a new version of DeviantART now. What do people think about it? I'm still not sure, but I always say that about the new versions of DeviantART...till I get use to it.
I like the new message centre, I like the thumbnail view of images...it's great!

Anyways the 2008 NZ Body Art Awards have been and gone for another year. It was a long day but as always well worth it. I will get some photos up of what I did a.s.a.p, I've been a bit slack at doing it.
This year I entered into Masquerade and UV. I didn't place but well you can't always come somewhere.

MODEL WANTED
I am currently looking for a female model to wear my entry in the Masquerade section of the 2008 NZ Body Art Awards.

Last year I recieved third place in this section, so I am looking to improve from last year.

This entry does not involve body painting, however the model must be prepared to be somewhat topless.

- Model MUST be 18 years of age or older.
- Not afraid to preform on stage.
- MUST live in New Zealand (of course) and preferably live in Auckland.
- MUST be available the evening of Friday 13th June & for the complete day of Saturday 14th June 20...

I am starting to believe that the break that took away from DeviantART and the internet was a good thing.

This week alone I have created three (yes, THREE) new photo manipulations.
Also I FINALLY made a new ID!!! And on top of that my latest photo manipulation is #300 in my gallery!!! Woohoo

Hello everybody! Long time no hear right?
Well I am currently coming to you from an internet cafe in town. I have some time to kill so I thought that I would come in here and drop you all a line.

I can't believe that I haven't been on here since November 12th. And I have to say not a heck of a lot has been happening. Since I last wrote on this journal I have moved house, from good old Western Springs/Grey Lynn all the way out to Greenhithe.
The new place is great. Nice and peaceful...and the sunsets are pretty wicked...the bonus of living out in what a lot of people from Auckland would call the middle of nowhere.

I've got a bunch of new photography to add, but I won't be adding that until I either have the internet at home or gain access via a friends house or something.
I've also been doing a bunch of painting. Our neighbor recently took down their old fence and replaced it with a new one. So I have been using the old fence as a canvas. And some of the paintings I have done are well...a lot different to previous works.
So there will be images of those put up on here too when I get the net back. And I will also be selling them as well...although that offer is really only for those who live in Auckland (or New Zealand) or those who can afford the cost of them to be sent overseas.

I can't think of much else to write about. But I'm sure I will think of a bunch of stuff as soon as I leave this place...haha!
Oh yeah I have already started working on my entry for this years New Zealand Body Art competition. Although I might re-work it...we will see. I mean I do have a fair amount of time till the competition, although thats...

So, so tired.

Anyway, a few weekends ago was Body Art Rocks 2007. I went down to Wellington, did the competition, didn't come anywhere. Oh well. Had a great time down in Wellington (I love that place).

This week I am getting ready to move. Packing, cleaning, the normal things that you do when you move. But yes am very tired, so who knows what I will get done today.
However you can prop all figure that one of the last things to move will be the computer and it will (of course) be one of the first things to set up.

Anyways, I better go wake myself up and do some packing.

PLEASE NOTE: Body Art Rocks is held in Wellington, and is on Saturday 27th October 2007. So you must be able to get to Wellington (I can help cover this cost if you are traveling down from Auckland).
The piece includes a prosthetic face piece, so I will need to see a photo of you so I can visually see if the piece will fit. Also you must be comfortable with wearing a g-string and preforming in front of a crowd.

Journal Entry
I am now on the countdown to Style Pasifika 07.

As most of you know I also entered Style Pasifika last year as well (suprising how fast a year goes by).
My piece last year, Legends: The Stories of Maui, was inspired by the Maui books that I read as a child. And depicted five stories of Maui.

I was shocked, surprised...and SHOCKED last year when they called me out as the winner. I was shocked enough when they told me that I was one of the two finalist. We (Belle & myself) really didn't expect it.

I have had a little bit of pressure put on me by my pairs for this years competition. It's a bit scary when people ask "so are you going to defend your title this year?".
I've also been told by a few people that you can't win the Style Pasifika body art section more than once, because nobody has done it yet. So in a way I am trying to prove that wrong...I mean people didn't think that you could win it in your first year of entering, but we did.

It's not about winning and it's not about losing. It's about having fun, enjoying the experience and getting your name out there.

Journal Entry
You might notice that my journal is looking a bit flash at the moment. I entered the Bewitched Competition. that $Moonbeam13 was running the other week. I didn't come anywhere in the competition, but $Moonbeam13 being the nice person that she is credited everybody who entered but didn't place with a 1 month sub. COOL HUH?

So I am pretty new to this whole CSS journal thing. Heck I have never had a sub (except for once for 1 week on my stock account), but I never ended up really using it. So HOPEFULLY I will get more use out of having a sub on this account. Never know might make me want one (more so).

I haven't been up to much. I have Style Pasifika coming up in a couple of weeks...but I can't say that I am working on it. Haha! Just chilling at the moment before the big stress.

Hmmm yesterday I had a headache and today I have a...yup you guessed it...HEADACHE! Bastard!

Been working pretty hard out on one of my sites. I run a Backstreet Boys fansite and have for just over a year now, although it has only been in the last few weeks that I have really dug in and worked on it.

4 WEEKS TILL SPRING! Woohoo. I can't wait, I am so over this weather. Sunny, wet, sunny, wet...MAKE UP YOUR GOD DAMN MIND!

As you may of read earlier in the week I hit 7000 page views. I know It's not all about page views, but come on you can't tell me you don't get excited when you reach a milestone in page views.

As you will see we have some new photography up. One of them was taken in July, while the other two were taken today. Hope you like them. Comments are always welcome.
I will more than likely have some new photo up after the weekend. I'm off down to Hamilton on Sunday for the day, so hopefully the weather is good and I can get some pretty pictures. (Mental note to self: charge camera)

Why hello there monkies!
It's currently 6.41am and your tuned into JadedSphnix's Journal with Sniffles. YES, I have a COLD!

Last weekend we helped a friend move house, yeah thats all good I enjoy helping people, BUT the weather was shit! It was rainning all day (besides the odd break in the weather). I got rainned on when I got out the car to guide Russell as he backed the trailer up the drive , I guess that is how I got sick. So now I am Sniffles!

Leon Wharekura was on Good Morning yesterday to promote his debut album. It went on sale the other day. It was so cool to see something that I designed on TV (his album). I'll be putting images of it up on here (maybe today), so look out for that.
Leon also has a new website coming soon, which I am also designing. Will let you know when that is up.

Okie dokie people I am back from Hamilton. Man I had a fair few deviantions sitting here when I got back (didn't go online while I was away).

I took a few photos while I was away but you will have to wait to see those. You see I brought a game (CSI) last week before I went away...and well you need a DVD-Rom to play it. So I took out the burner and put in the DVD-Rom ...problem is I (somewhere along the line) must of bumped the cable for my drive...so at the present time I can't get into my drive. Yes I could just put them onto another drive, but that would only work if I hadn't already uploaded those images on to my computer.
On top of that my drive is where all my work is...so yeah no worky for me today...haha!

Will sort that problem out tonight. So hopefully either later tonight OR tomorrow there will be some new images on here. *hint* lots of kitties. meow.

Other than that I am in the works of hopefully heading down to Wellington for one of the workshops that the good people at Weta Workshop are putting on. And yes I may even have a portfolio by then and maybe even I might get in touch with them to maybe get in interview...

Saturday was the day of the New Zealand Body Art Awards, and boy IÂm glad it's over. I was so incredibly tired after it all.

Friday night was the rehearsal and I donÂt think we got home from that till about half 10 or later. It was good that we weÂre able to have a run through on the stage this year. Last year we did the rehearsal at a community centre and the stage was just marked out with tapeÂso it was a lot better this year.

My day on Saturday started at about half 7 in the morning. Belle got here just after 9 and we loaded the car. Thank god we could use the 4W-Drive, because well there wouldnÂt of been enough space to fit everything in her mumÂs car.
Rolled up to the venue (North Shore Event Centre) just after 10am and had enough time to have a coffee before unloading everything.

It was a very long day. I started working on Russell (the goat) at about 11am (by time we had set up etc) and my masquerade modelÂs arrived at about 3.30pm.
The judges (Richard Taylor, Gino Acevedo, Gabe Bartalos, David Minifie and Elizabeth Osborn) arrived at the event at about 1pm. All the judges remembered me from last year (except Gabe, as he wasnÂt at last years competition).
Russell (aka Goat Man, aka Hircosus) had A LOT of photos taken of him and received a fair bit of attention. We even got interviewed for TV3 NewsÂand as we all know just because you get interviewed for the news you donÂt always get on. But Goat Man made it on to the news; there was a snip of him telling the camera what he was and then another c...

1 DAY TO GO, thats not counting today. The 2007 New Zealand Body Art Awards are this Saturday. It is now a mad dash to the end.

WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE?
- Skirt for bird mask needs to be completed. Expand by 10cm & finish sewing.
- Necklace/choker for bird mask needs to be completed. Hook & Eyes sewn on back.
- Add hook & eyes to goat costume and diry up to look worn.
- Open goat horn mould and run in latex. (paint as well)
- Pad goat feet to fit. (and paint)
- Goat face needs to be run once more in foam latex.

COMPLETED! - as of 1.24am (Friday)

So as you can see you won't see much of me at all over the next few days. But there WILL BE an "update" before the competition...and of course massive posting after the competition.

Okie dokie monkey's...FINALLY an update on what the heck I have been up to and where I am up to etc.

FIRST THE COMPETITION STUFF
The competition is now only 16 days away. Which still means i have 2weeks...but yeah 16 days is 16 days. So now its arghhhhh run around like a nut and finish it all off. Oh yeah...and I was accepted into the competition, if you didn't guess.

The Masqurade Section (Enlightenment)
The bird mask (the one with all the feathers) is pretty much finished. It has all it's feathers, just need a few more paintings on a beak and the ribbon put on (ribbon will be black & red).
The skull bird mask now has some feathers on it (on the forehead/brow). Needs more paint on the beak and ribbon (red, black & white). So pretty much done.
The skull just needs a bit more painting & ribbon (White & black) and will be done.
Got a black corset for the bird mask this evening. Will be going to book the costumes next weekend. And I need to make the necklace for the bird too.

Okie dokie monkies and monketts, at the request of *joharasaluki I am going to be keeping track of the process of the masquee masks.

Yes all of them, not just one. So you are all in for a treat of lots of images of the process and also you get to discover how these things that I make "come to life" (I may also add the goat to this as well).

A tag will be placed next to new image links each time I update.

My entries for the competition now have names. The masks are titled Enlightenment and the goat is called Hircosus.
The other night I was up to 3.30am working on the music for the characters...for Enlightenment, "Gitan" by Cirque Du Soleli, from the Varekai album. And for Hircosus "The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game" by Massive Attack.

Would you believe that yesterday was the first time that I spent money on this competition. Yes, up until now i have been either recycling stuff that I already had or stuff that had been given.

Will prob be doing my photographic entry on Monday. So look out for that one as well.

Can you believe that it is May already? Man this year is just flying past, its almost like if you blink you'll miss it.

Been super busy lately. Hope you had a good weekend and week last week!

NZ Body Art Awards is next month and the masks are coming a long nicely. Mask 1 of 3 (Bird Mask) is up to being painted. Mask 2 of 3 (the Skull) has one more layer of paper mache to go. Mask 3 of 3 is in the process of being painted. So look out for a big update of all of them soon.
Goat Man FINALLY has a name, Hircosus, Latin for of a goat, goat like and I have also written his "story".

On top of all that I think I have also found my model for the photographic section. I have an idea of what I am going to do on it although it needs a lot more work...all I know is that the photo is going to be black on black (black background & model painted black) with maori (or maori like) designs painted up his back.

Once NZ Body Art Awards is over I'll be getting my designs ready (and done) for Style Pasifika 07.

I have also update the image of Pinned Wings 1. Because NOW I have a scanner, printer, copier. I know about time! So now maybe you might see more of my drawings etc...Although I haven't done any drawing in a while. Well I have done drawing, but they are all concept designs for the competition, I just haven't sat down and spent a day drawing.

And what a great start to the week, this morning I recieved a poster from WetaBug (yes Wetabug as in from Weta Workshop in Wellington).

Anywho must be off have a busy day. Look out for the updates on the masks...they might be up today (maybe but we will see how we go).

Firstly, as you may of noticed I have made a sculpture of Beezl (I'm sure you all remember him).
I have plans for the Beezl sculpture. He is the first of the three main characters (Bunny, Kitty & Beezl) from the Happy Families image.

Beezl stands at a tiny 6cm (2.3 inch), is painted with arcylics and has a clear nail varnish finish.

I am thinking about selling the character, either single or as a group. But I am still thinking about it and need your feedback to help me decide. If I have enough people wanting to own/buy these character then I will start running them in resin...but like I said it depends on interest...so let me know.

I also added photos of another sculpture that I finished about a week ago. Just something that I did for fun...to pass time...to think while working on other projects.

Yesterday I had a nature day.
Started off by helping out Russell's mum, by doing part of her garden. Then yesterday afternoon/evening at sunset I took a walk down to Western Springs to take some photos. I took a few photos, but feel I need to look through them again before I decide which one/s to put up. So you can look forward to them sometime in the next few days.

In other news, tomorrow is Anzac Day and I will be up super earlier (about 5am). I'm going on a wee tiki tour up north a bit (not that far) to take some photos of the Anzac sunrise. I think that it is one of the most beautiful and amazing sunrises of the year. I would love to take photos of the Anzac dawn service, but so many people will be there and god knows how many camera's (papers & tv crews) I can't be assed.
So I am going to hopefully document it with...

Well I had a crap end to the week last week.

Russell hurt his head at work, on Friday morning we found his bike had been stolen and on Friday night I found out that one of my grandma's has cancer.

So yippee.

Got a bit of a headache today. So meh!

Last weekend (Easter Weekend) I went down to Hamilton to see my mum, grandma, grandad and uncle. Spent four days there. Nothing very exciting.

Yesterday I started the paper mache process of one of my masks for NZ Body Art Awards. I took photos of sculpted piece, you can view it HERE.
Did a fair bit of sculpting yesterday...will submit the image of what I sculpted tomorrow sometime.

Suffering from a bad headache today...

On Sunday I went to the Nostalgia Drags in Meremere. Was a very cool day and I needed a mop at some points of the day (to wipe up the drool ), there were some very nice cars there...some just went to park up and show off their goods, and others were also there to race.

I'm suprised I could hear after spending the day at the track. Was great fun.
I took some photos, although not as many as I would of liked to of taken...I didn't know I was going to the drags till that morning, so I hadn't charged my camera & it decided that it would die on me.

One of the cars that I took a photo of in 2005 was there as well, looking as beautiful as ever...so if you haven't seen it before check out Classic I as well.

Well today I thought that I would update (or backdate) my gallery a bit and share with all of you some of my older artworks...the work that I did before I found photoshop and DeviantArt.
The five images that I added today have also been made as prints as well, so I hope that maybe some of you may like them enough to maybe buy a print.

Holy Geebuz can the weather be any worse at the moment. The weekend was beautiful and now...now nothing but crap weather. Last night was strong wind, lighting and thunder...and at the present time its pissing down with rain (has been rainning on and off all day).
I was going to go to kickboxing tonight, but I ain't walking in this weather I'd prob. get blown away. Would also be drowned like a rat and prob. get sick.

So anywho today I decided to do something for somebody here on DeviantArt...something that I have never done. I drew up my addaptation of *goldenpuppy's character Ash.
Was really interesting, because I have never done an addaptation of somebody character. Also got me thinking about doing some more stuff like what I did. But I need to get some ideas first...

Waiting to hear the results from the Dead Silence competition. Very tough competition because there are so many good entries. So we will wait and see. Was cool to do that too, especially because I have never entered an Official DeviantArt competition before...which is a bit weird because I have been on here since 2004.

Sounds like it's been a period of trying "new things" here on DeviantArt for me.

Also been thinking about starting a group/club thing here on DeviantArt to do with make-up, bodyart and sfx. I know that there are already those kind of clubs on here, but they don't get updated that often...which is a shame.

Been watching a fair few movies this week. Thus far I have watched about 6 or 7 this week. Yeah!

Can't think of anything else worth writting for now so I shall let you get back to looking around...

Well if you don't live in New Zealand or in Auckland then you have no idea what went on yesterday. Yesterday was the Pasifika Festival. A massive yearly event that basicially celebrates the Pasific Islands, the culture, music, food etc...it was a great day out, beautiful weather as always as well.

Seeings as it is held down the road from where I live, Belle, John, Hope and Belle's mum & dad turned up at my place at about 8.30am. We were at Pasifika ALL DAY! From about 9am till about 5.30pm. Was a long day, but it didn't seem all that long. Was great fun though.

I took a few photos while at the event, and I would of taken more but I have to save memory space for Mo'Reece. He preformed at Pasifika yesterday so I had to go take photos of him for his site.

I've added three photos to my gallery. Might added a few more photos from last week on here later on at some point.

Eight new deviantions...yes today I did my photoshoot with Ellie. I've wanted to use Ellie since sometime last year, but she's normally busy with uni stuff...until today!

So she came over, I did her hair and make-up and then took photos. We took a bunch of photos 232 in total, and as you can see I haven't added all of them.

Okay I am so going to burn in hell and possibly could get a bit of a backlash for what I will write in this journal.

So I was cruising around the good ol DA forums (in the Help with Life section), I came across the post that posed the question: "What Drives You To Make Art?"

My response was pretty straightforward, "I do art because as simple as it sounds...it's just what I have always done."
I started doing art (well scribbles) as soon as I could hold a crayon and since then I have always been doing it. I wouldnt say that I am passionate about art and I wouldnt say that I love art either, (maybe its just the way I think) but if you asked my friends they would tell you that my passion for what I do pours out from my skin and I stink of it.

Now when I see people posting that its their "passion", that they "love it" etc...I just cant help but laugh to myself and think tosspot.
I guess it is because I think that we shouldnt have to say that we are passionate about something such as art, people should be able to see it in you and in your work.
I believe that you shouldnt have to tell people, it almost seems like you are trying to convince everybody that it is. Maybe that is part to that it is so hard to get recognised as an artist and we (the artists) believe that the only way that we can get people behind is if we tell them that its our passion.

I feel that passion and love are two words that get flung around so easily that it is hard to believe and they are such strong and powerful words to use when expressing your emotion towards something.
If we go by the old saying of "you dont know what love is until youve lost it" then we cant say that we do love it or are passionate about it, because for most of us we have never had to go through a period of time when we have been unable to use our limbs to prevent us from doing what we "love".

I think for most of us we dont know how to describe how we feel about art, because it is something that is unexplainable and there are no words that can sum up exactly what it is that we feel about this thing we do. So we are left with using passion and love, even though it doesnt really encapsulate all that we feel.

Do you think that there is another word out there that we could use or should we just stick with "I dont know life without it"?
And while we are at it, What drives you to do art?

And in other news that isn't a rant my piece titled Kitty was accepted into the prints gallery the other day. YAY!
Oh yeah and the little mood emotion that will be me later on tonight (I'm going to kickboxing)...hehe!

I had a small clean out of my gallery this morning, which means that some of my work has been moved in to Scraps.

At the moment I have a stack of stuff that I am working on. I'm doing a website (online portfolio) for Miss Ma and also her resume layout, she's giving me her foam latex kit for doing it for her...which will be a huge help with the goat that I am going to be making for the NZ Body Art Awards.

Also been working on my business plan, but the plans for what I am doing with that is something that I'm not going to share online (i'm sure you understand why).

The NZ Body Art Awards are on June 16th. By then I have to sculpt and make the goat prosthetic, hooves (hands and feet) and horns...pref. all done by the end of April so I have a month to pratice and get the paint scheme right. Also I am wanting to enter the Masquerade section, and for my idea for that I need to make 2 or 3 masks. So busy busy...and its not too far off March now!

Added a couple of new photos this morning, as always the links for those can be found at the top of the page. They are both in my print shop as well!

Still looking for my missing disk, I really hope that I find it because it has photos of my work on it...yes I did a backup disk of my photos (did it a while ago) and hmmm can't find it now...I'm sure it's somewhere around here, just need to hunt it down.

Yes folks that day has come around again, the day that single people dread and the females in a serious relationship wait for just incase their man decides to pop that question.

Well I took some photos this morning...Jellybeans and hearts. Yes I did some Valentine photos...I think I might be sick or something because we all know that Valentines Day is only good for chocolate. Other than that retail feel that it is their duty to bump the prices up, especially roses. And of course I like roses, red ones, pref. deep red and the ones that have just started to open...they look best like that and as soon as I get them I just hang them to dry anyway.

But at least I have somebody...unlike some people who will be really down today about the whole thing, I don't understand why though...it's just another day. I can be 100% sure in tell you I ain't getting nothing for valentines day.

Anywho enough with that crap...its a really nice day here today...deciding if I will go walks down to the lake take some photos or not...

Anyways since some of you ain't on Valentines Day yet...in advanced I hope you have a good Valentines Day and really who cares if you don't get anything...nothings stopping you from going out and spoiling yourself.

Been suffering from a bunged up eye for the past few days (think Rocky after he's been in a fight). Not fun waking up in the morning having to pry open your eye.

Yesterday I finished a digitial work of mine that I started way back in 2004 (Pills). Pretty amazing huh? It's available as a print and I also submitted Bunny (who is in Pills) and you can get him as a print as well.
I'm going to be using the Deviant Dollars that I make from sales of my work to get myself a Deviant subscription. So if you do buy one of my prints you'll be helping me achieve that goal.

Still haven't written the story for Fairytales: II. Will TRY to get around to doing that this week. About a week ago I added an image of my new layout for my Online Make-Up Portfolio. You can check it out HERE

Started a new painting this week. It's a revisit of my 7th form art boards. Acrylic on wood board, measures about 34cm x 180cm.
Went to Natcoll on Friday to check out their courses, I'm thinking about doing a website design course to fill in all the gaps that are missing (i'm self taught).

Working on a new layout for Jaded.Designs and will be splitting my website and art apart, so my art will have its own site soon...and website design and graphics will be on another site.

This Tuesday is Waitangi Day (another public hoilday) and depending on my eye I will be working at Groove In The Park, doing airbrush tattoos. SO if you are from Auckland and have nothing to do come along (details at the bottom).

Had a mass clean up the other day and my god the house looks different. I think that is part of the reason why I started the new painting, see I removed my crapped out computer from the table and well now I have somewhere to work on my paintings.

Only a few days since I last added things and I have added more. I also now have a few of my works available as PRINTS now as well.

Now on to the main point of this entry (besides to tell you about the new photos and the prints). Sally has been looking through my works here on Deviantart and she is well lets just say impressed.

Well I need some help...
I have wanted to hold an exhibition of my work for a fair while now. It's something that I have wanted to do for at least the past 7 years, but more so in the past year.
Anywho Sally reckons that I should as well, she doesn't see why i'm not selling my work (hense the prints), but the problem is I have no idea how to go about an exhibition. So ANY information that any of you could give me would be a huge help. Most of the exhibition would most likely be photography but I would also like to involve body art, special effects and make-up through photography.

I have also entered my photo Te Pare: I into the New Zealand Hearld Summer Photo Competition.

Suffering at the moment from a case of itchy sunburn.

I have also edited a couple of my works. Silenced By... prob had the biggest edit, the other edits were just in size.

So I have this print store now, BUT it is a little small at the present time. So I would like to know which (if any) of my works would you like in print. I will see what I can do, but I can't make any promises on if I will be able to put it into print.

I'm back from my holiday in Hahei...I had never been there before so it was nice to go somewhere different.

We went down there on Wednesday 3rd...and what do you know the first night I was in Hahei there was a huge fire (which I took photos of).

The following day was Russell's birthday so we went over to Whitianga to do some shoping (Hahei is a bit expensive...but then again so is Whitianga).

Friday we went for a paddle around to Strig Ray Bay. Was super nice there and well I got a wee bit burnt...a wee bit bleck on the arms and shoulders now...haha!

Saturday was a day of doing a heck of a lot of nothing...I was a bit sore from carrying the Kayakes back from the beach...and the sunburn was a little sore...it was a lazy day really. Bonus...I started a concept design.

Sunday we went for a walk up Te Pare...I forgot my camera so we had to venture back up Te Pare later that afternoon before going to Hot Water Beach...which didn't have too many hot spots.

And what do you know today we came back to Auckland. Anyways I took photos and I have put them up...the worthy ones. As always the list of new photos and art is at the top...

Hope you all had a wicked new years...and all of that stuff...think I might hope of to bed soon...

It's a yippie-de-do-da day people...we have Russell's computer going again AND I have moved my programs across to his computer while mine sits and waits for a new motherboard << sounds a bit like a CCF advert

Over this hoilday period I am going to be working on my ideas for the NZ Body Art Awards, still deciding if to show you guys concepts or not. I have the idea...I just need to nut it out now and get lots of pics of goats.

It's Christmas day...yay...so MERRY CHRISTMAS. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas and get everything that you wished for...etc etc...

My computer died (well the motherboard did) a few days ago, so at the present time i am using Ellie's old computer...which is only good enough to check emails...its VERY SLOW. So I'm not sure how long it will be till I post something in my gallery again. Hopefully it won't be too long though.

On Saturday I did a facecast of Russell...still need to finish cleaning it up. I took his facecast as he is going to be my model for NZ BODY ART AWARDS 07. I will be turning him into a goat.

Well I'm back from Wellington...got back early Saturday evening at about half five. The weather was crazy while we were down there, it was so windy. I swear if I good gust of wind came by and you jumped you would prob. be able to fly.

Wednesday evening (once we got to Wellington) I spent my evening working on Chev's costume for his model as he hadn't made one.

Thursday I met up with my model and brought the jeans for his costume, did a tiny bit of shopping with Hanna and then that night I finished off Chev's costume and had a few drinks .

Friday was my birthday and the day of the competition, had breakfast and went to the competition, that was pretty much my whole day.
I didn't come anywhere in the competition but I guess I could say that it was a good thing that Richard Taylor remembered me from NZ Body Art Awards which were held in Auckland earlier this year. Richard and Gino really liked the story behind my character, so I guess that was a really good thing too.
That evening after the competition, myself and Hanna had a few drinks and yeah that was Friday over and done with.

Saturday morning at about 7am we were woken up by Chev. We left Wellington at about half sevenish.

I have a flu now AND TODAY I CLEAN!

Just uploaded some photos that I took on the way down to Wellington of What do you guys think about the new upload/submit layout? It's a lot easier I think (all on one page) but I found it a bit confusing the first time using it.

The next competition that I do isn't until next year, but I have already begun thinking about what I am going to do for it. Need to draw my concepts though.

WHAT I GOT FOR MY BIRTHDAY...A diskman, a little pig ornament, some coffee chocolates, a king size bar of Whitika's almond chocolate, a little disco ball, a paua neckless, a little box shaped like a pyramid...and a bunch of texts. But that isn't all of my gifts because this Friday I have invited some of my friends to a private screening of Crank (it isn't out here till November 30th) so I will be getting more presents.

Let's see, I haven't been up to a heck of a lot since graduation. I went down to Hamilton last weekend, that was fun, exciting and it was just great to get away from Auckland. Went to a local fair and the local fireworks display...and also went for a spa while I was down there.

On Thursday I got my letter from Body Art Rocks to tell me that i'm into the competition. The competition is on Friday (November 17th) in Wellington. Myself and some others from Cut Above are traveling down to Wellington on Wednesday morning...however no idea what time we will get down to Wellington (depends how many stops we make).

I still have a bit of work to do on my piece before I go down to Wellington, so the next couple of days I will be pretty busy.

Oh yeah it's also my birthday on Friday as well...yes the same day as the competition.

Hmmm I still can't seem to change my mood. Dunno why. argh!

Over the past couple of weeks I have added a couple of new images to my gallery...but since I haven't done an journal entries since I won Style Pasifika I haven't listed them in here...but anyways thats not all that important.

A couple of weekends ago I worked at Armageddon doing make-up for Eve Online (i've just added a photo of that to my gallery).

On Monday I handed in my entry form and concept sketchs/designs for the next competition, Body Art Rocks, which is in Wellington on Friday 17th November.

This evening I have graduation to go to. I finished earlier this year, but Cut Above only hold one graduation a year. I will be graduating with a Diploma in Special FX and Sculpting. And well since I finished the course a while ago I'm not really fussed about it. It is also the four course that I have graduated at Cut Above...so yeah no biggy.

Other than that nothing much going on. Hope you all have a good rest of the week.

ps: I'm not amazed (mood) I just can't change it...

Well Style Pasifika 06 is over. The judging was on Friday evening, it was a suprise enough to be one of the two finalists, but then at the end of the night we (myself & my assistant) found out that we had won...now that was unreal. We didn't expect to be a finalist (let alone win) in our first year of entering the event.

It still hasn't really sunk in, I mean I know I won but was is it meant to feel like?

It was a great event to be apart of with some really amazing artists in my section. I have kept a journal type thing of the event which I will put up on here with other images of the process sometime today or over the next couple of days.

My piece was titled Legends: The Stories of Maui and yes i have uploaded a group of images to my gallery so check it out.

Only a few days to go till Style Pasifika. I've been making nails for the past couple of days, I should finish them today. Tomorrow is the final run through of the show and I want the nails ready for then, so my model can have a pratice with them on stage before the event.

I've been writting a "diary/journal" of what I have been doing for Style Pasifika, keeping track of things and all of that. So I might put that up here this weekend after all the chaos is over.
