What are Dream Pets?

Dream Pets (as I'm tenatively calling them) are adoptables, or vitual pets, drawn and designed by Jianre M. (me.)

For those of you unfamiliar with 'Adoptables' or 'Virtual Pets' in general, they are online 'animals' that one can own, collect, and display. Some times there are more options, including a stat-building effect of some kind or beauty contests. But for now, my Dream Pets, are just cute, collectible critters that you can claim individually as yours. (the concept of each animal and the rights to them still belong to me.)

How to Claim your own Dream Pet!

For the most part, unless I specify otherwise, the new 'eggs' I post up, can be claimed by posting a story for them. "Why you want it, or how you found it", these stories are judged individually by creativity, effort, and the suitability of the story to the Critter in question. I hope that the new owners would be inspired to continue their stories as their pet grows, as I will be posting the story within each adoptable's description!

For those of you less comfortable with writing projects, I will also be holding drawing contests, with Mystery Dream Pets as the prizes!

And if that still doesn't work for you, you can purchase a commission of your own CUSTOM Pet of your choice... though I'll post more details on that further down.

So far, there is only two types of Dream Pet, but I promise more are on the way. ^_^

What is the "Complexity Rating"?

As some of you may have noticed, each Dream Pet has a complexity rating!

The complexity rating, has to do with how difficult or complex the creature's design is, and therefore, how much more time it might take to make Custom versions. So the complexity rating also determines how much it would cost to commission your own pet of that variety or a similar one.

The Ratings go from 1 to 5 stars and work like this:

- 1 star: Extremely Simple - Little to no detail.
- 2 stars: Simple - Small Details

Hello Again!

It's been a really long time I know, far too long really.

In case any are curious, I haven't really been online at ALL... as in 'anywhere'. Haven't been answering e-mails or messages of any sort.

BUT ... to calm some worries, I'm perfectly fine! ... I just got burned out for a bit, ... and I was reading... alot.

I don't really have an adequate excuse/explaination for my absense aside from apathy, I just found myself inordinately uninterested in creative endeavors the last few months... My best guess is a little overload,... but I'm not really sure, I wasn't depressed or unhappy, just unmotivated.

ANYways, it seems to be fading fast now, so I'm trying to get back on track with my usual hobbies.

I'm sorry if I was ignoring people, I know I pretty much WAS, but I'll try to make up for it.

CONVENTIONS!! ... I'm sure alot of you are very curious what happened here... well... um... ~Jayetta and I need to work out some issues, and really restructure our business. Alot of red-tape stuff, and building up our stock, but suffice it to say we ended up having to cut BACK on our conventions due to unforseen complications. I'll be updating the list of attended conventions really soon.

I HAVEN'T actually been writing, though I do have the next chapter of "Once More, With Feeling" half finished... never-the-less, This is one of the first projects I'm reviving. (now that the strange apathy is gone.) I just don't know how thoroughly or how soon I'll get back into the swing of it.

... It's been a while hasn't it? I've been rather scarce around here, and I very much realize that. (and appologize for any whom I worried.)

I'll explain that, I promise, but first let me give a breif synopsis of the last two conventions I attended!

COMIC-CON.

As some of you may have noticed, ~Jayetta and I only had Art-Show tables at Comic-Con, as opposed to Artist Alley tables like we prefer.

Now the upside to Art-Show is that we aren't required to man the tables, (in fact it's discouraged.) the downside is that not nearly as many people see that stuff, and it's ALOT harder to sell one's work.

... in fact, I didn't sell ANYTHING at Comic-Con... which was... rather dissapointing. But we're gonna make a solid effort for Artist Alley tables next year!

BESIDES that... we actually had a WHOLE lotta fun at the convention itself! as we expected, there was tons of free swag to get, and lots of awesome things and people to see.

~Jayetta and I actually ended up picking up Naruto Shippoden Plushies (for FREE) since she actually WON both of them, she gets to have Kakashi, and she gave me Naruto. (though we share them of course.) ... contrary to what alot of people might think... I actually kinda like Naruto, the series is entertaining... (though I prefer reading the manga to listening to "BELEIVE IT!") So I'm quite happy with a Naruto plushie, even though I haven't gotten as far as Shippoden. (by a long shot.)

got alot of other swag too, Shonen-Jump bags, note-pads, Sticky notes, Jump ropes, t-shirts... I also got a Carlisle Crest Twilight Ring. :dances: I'm REALLY happy with that! (though I might touch up the paint job. ... ) I also got a Scooby-Doo collar. (which I actually wear... XD I think it's fun!) and other miscellanious stuff.

We saw alot of anime, and got to hang out with some cool people, so it was very fun, and quite the learning experience.

We did take a loss though with the convention itself, ... which is a pity. Ah well... better luck next year!

Anime Festival Orlando (AFO)

~Jayetta and I had one Artist Alley table between the two of us for this convention. (partially due to some communication issues, and partially due to fund issues.) but we had an EXCELLENT spot! So it was great!

The plane ride was rather tiring, (being a 5 hour trip all together, not including Layover and time differences.) but thanks to my great friend "Kitsune13" (from Fanfiction.net) we were able to get excellent rates on a close-by hotel... and it was a COMFORTABLE hotel too!

Florida was beautiful! Everything was so GREEN!! ... and there was plant-life and lakes everywhere! didn't see too many bugs and never spotted any snakes or gaters, but we were in the middle of Orlando... so maybe that's not as much of a hot-spot. XD ... it was a whole heckuva lot muggier than I've ever experienced before... I'm much more used to hot and DRY ... not hot and "steam room".

Anyways, as to the convention itself... I had an absolute blast! That was one of the most relaxing conventions I've ever done! ... mighta had something to do with the fact I kept taking off to attend panels and get signatures from Voice Actors. (of which they had an awesome selection.

Greetings and Salutations Watchers and Passerby,

My Convention Partner, ~Jayetta and I just got back from the 2009 Anime Expo Convention.

This convention was our BIGGEST convention last year, and so far it has kept that record for this year as well!

I am very pleased with the outcome of the con itself, even though it's rather expensive to attend and work at, we had ALOT of business and great opportunities! We sold a ton of buttons, and potions, those seemed to be the real hot items this year, and with the sheer quantity we sold, ~Jayetta and I will be footing for a bigger better button press! ... what that means, is we will have more sizes, and we can drop our prices a little since they will be easier to make on the new machine. ^_^ (YAY!! No more hand-cramps!!) We've got alot of styles, and I'll be uploading a picture of the new ones soon. :3

We met alot of people this con. Saw some old faces and some new ones, hung out with friends and made a few more.

Most notably, I met up with my old friend ~Sordoth, whom I had not seen in 7 years!! We used to go to school together! and he only very recently found my deviantART and we started chatting again. Meeting him once more in person, and catching up with stuff was great fun!

~seru-crescent was a MUCH MORE official Table-stalker at this con, since we signed her up as a helper, and she was a GREAT HELP! I don't know how we would have kept up with everything without her!! She's also adopted a new screen-name based on the nickname we dubber her last year ~bishi-lover.

I was shocked and a bit thrilled on the last day when ^budgie came over to ~Jayetta's and my tables and requested an art-trade. (HECK YEAH!!) so we got some LOVELY prints in exchange! and bought some adorable buttons 'cause we couldn't resist! XD (Reno of course.)

We got to hang out quite a bit with the other artists this year, it was a real blast. ^_^ didn't wander much though... the booth was always crazy-busy. I also got a complimentary Copic reference "how-to" book thingy, but mor...

~Jayetta and I, had been particularly excited to try and attend A-kon together this year. Last year was alot of fun for me, and I was looking forward to hanging out with *KrisCynical again.

However, as far as we can tell, this will NOT be happening. As much as I tried to stalk the A-Kon website, I couldn't locate the specific information as to WHEN and HOW to register for the Artist's Alley until it was too late.

I am STILL not entirely certain how I was supposed to go about it.

So much to the dissapointment of all involved, it seems we will be unable to attend.

We WILL be putting in extra effort to attend Anime Fest.

but unless someone knows something I don't about A-Kon. Or has a table they'd be willing to sell me. (HIGHLY unlikely.) I just don't see how we can do it.

they were QUITE fast and easy to do for me. So I think a good size stock of various characters would be QUITE doable.

HOWEVER, ... Since I never consider myself a good judge of what other people want to see. I'll be taking REQUESTS for characters to do. (no this does not entitle you to a free charm. I will simply be making these characters available.)

Greetings and Salutations Watchers and Passerby!

Over Easter Weekend, ~Jayetta, ~amascusmage, and I drove out to Arizona to attend the Anizona convention. My older brother ~amascusmage was the self-dubbed "Convention Mom" of the trip, he did the driving, goffering, and chauffering, and since we were staying at an "Extended Stay" hotel, it had a kitchen, so he cooked our meals, (which was really nice. ^_^ ... even if he cooked more than we could eat. >.> )

~Jayetta and I shared a table for most of the convention. but with our new setup it actually worked out pretty well. ^_^ My booth was more popular than I'd anticipated (more people than I can count stalked by multiple times to buy things.) I had alot of fun, and it was very interesting. As far as I can tell ~Jayetta and I broke even for the trips expenses, for CERTAIN we made enough to fund the next one! XD which is awesome!

The convention supposedly had about a 1,000 attendees total, ... and while that's smaller than SOME conventions we've been to, it wasn't the smallest, and it was still alot of fun. I'm very glad we went!

While we were there we met some friends and made some new ones, most notably, we got to hang out with ~DragnixianFireheart, meeting her was one of the main reasons ~Jayetta and I opted to attend the convention over Easter Weekend.

we also met ~StuckOnSandAndBugs ... A.K.A. "Reno" ... Because she actually answers to that. (which is hillarious in my oppinion.) and her friends, ... Reno delightfully displayed the first fangirl-spazz I've ever seen directed at me or my work. XD (I've seen some squeals, and lots of drooling, but this was the first spazz-attack.) For that alone, she gets the honorary title of my "Anizona fan-stalker". ... I seem to get at least one of those at most conventions. but that's fine by me, It keeps things from getting boring.

So all in all, I very much enjoyed Anizona, I have a handful of commissions pieces and a couple of "spare-time boredom" pieces I'll be uploading the next few weeks, as well as the display sets for mine and ~Jayetta's new "Test-run" convention sets (which did QUITE well.). So I have plenty of work in the upload-que, shouldn't be slow.

I'd love to go back to Anizona, but we heard a ru...

It has come to my attention that someone may be trying to impersonate me.

I have been informed that at least one of my DEVIANTART friends recieved an e-mail, supposedly from me, asking for money.

I do not need money, and would not ask like that.

However, if someone IS impersonating me, I suspect they are going through my DA friends, because the person in question was NOT on my e-mail address book. And in fact, I had never before e-mailed them at all.

... I will explain the title to this journal in a moment, ... but first off, the good news! ^_^

As I mentioned in my previous Journal, ~Jayetta, ~amascusmage and I all went to *raiagirl's wedding this weekend! ^_^ we drove from Southern California to Colorado. it was a VERY LONG drive, (but not the longest one I've done.) The scenery however, was gorgeous! and despite being quite tired when we arrived, it was one of the more pleasant trips I've taken. :3

*raiagirl and *dragonsthatservegod were awesome! and I met some NEW friends too! XD with whom my party and I just seemed to hit it off. The visit was a blast! Meeting all of the lil' critters Raia owns was very fun...

and of course, the wedding was GORGEOUS! the rehearsal dinner was very welcoming and friendly, the Wedding Ceremony was flawless and interesting to watch, and the Reception was amazing! ... AMAZING! I have to say I was terribly impressed! It was just awesome! the food was great, the guests very pleasant, and the music was the best I'd heard at such a formal event! All in all, it was a great weekend! ^_^ and I hope the two newlyweds have a GREAT Honeymoon!

On the way back from Colorado, my group and I decided that splitting up our trip would be ideal, and so even though visiting ~ScreamingLama wasn't exactly on our way, it was totally worth it! It was great to see her again.

we spent the night at her place, and had an absolute blast! (and if she EVER uploads that movie I know where she lives... )

left monday morning to head home.

Now comes the reason for the title... the trip home should have been about 12 hours.... meaning that we should have been back home and in bed Monday night. ... we didn't make it back till AFTER Noon on Tuesday. (today) ... we hit a freak blizzard half-way through Arizona.

the Irony of Ironies... I had been mourning the lack of snow through-out the entire trip, ... I LOVE snow, and I miss it... since we do NOT get snow in So-Cal. That said, I had WAY MORE SNOW than I ever wanted!! we got stuck outside of Flagstaff Arizona for an hour and a half when the snow got so thick Semi-Trucks were Jack-knifing everywhere and had to be towed off. It only got worse, when trying to get through the mountains we got stuck behind ANOTHER accident, this one a Semi-Truck THOROUGHLY CRASHED, and crushed, ... in the 2.5 hour wait for that one, it blizzarded, rained, snowed, rained, and then fogged before we got moving. SO the DOWNHILL mountain slope was BLACK ICE... absolutely covered in FEET of snow-slush, with Semi-Trucks sliding in front and behind us, mere rear-wheel drive on our SUV, less than 15-feet visability at 2 in the morning, and it was snowing, windy, and foggy... and did I mention it was a STEEP downgrade? and I don't own any snow-chains... (I'm a spoiled Californian after all...) we crawled along at 2 miles per hour, sliding for every foot of traction, skittering between both sides of the road without warning, ... we traveled like that for 2 hours before we could pull off the road a...

Hello again folks!

I kinda-sorta have a new job.

In a manner of speaking at least, ... my brother introduced me to it as he had started on it himself, (I don't know where he learned ... but oh-well.)

anyways, due to being a full-time Student and a Part-Time Free-Lance artist, I don't really have the time for a "real" job, but I've found something that so far is working decently, ... and it has the potential to pay for what I need.

It's called "Blood-Plasma" donation, And yes,... they do pay me to do this.

Unlike "Whole-Blood" donation, (which is what you do when you donate with Red Cross most of the time.) Blood-Plasma donations don't actually deprive you of Red Blood Cells. ... "Plasmapherisis"(sp?) ... is the process by which they remove whole-blood from your body, seperate the blood-cells and the plasma, and restore the blood cells to your system along with a saline solution.

Due to the fact I'm not actually losing blood (just plasma) I can donate as often as twice a week, (2 times within a 7 day period.) Each time I go to donate they pay me for the service.

Blood Plasma is used to make medicine, because a person's plasma contains alot of the Anti-bodies your body produces.

The whole process takes about 1-2 hours.

Now of course,... like most people... I DO NOT LIKE NEEDLES. ... I can't look when they stab me with the things, and let me tell you... the needles they use are HUGE!! about as thick as a coffee-stirrer. and a good inch long. (17 gauge they call it.)

but the pay is good, and they're very proffesional about the whole process...

On the other hand, it inspires me to be more fit, ... in order to donate regularly you have to take care of yourself, they won't let you donate if you aren't hydrated enough or if you don't have enough blood-cell count, or blood pressure, and as I have learned the HARD WAY... not eating quite soon enough before hand, OR not getting enough sleep during the days before hand, OR not being hydrated enough, ... makes me get faint and sick during the donation.

I've never thrown up ,... but it SUCKS!! yech, ... You get dizzy, light-headed, extremely nauseous, hot and sweaty, and I've even had my hearing buzz out, ... Forget the needle, I've found I hate the sickness-spells even more.

The on-hand doctors are good at dealing with it, fast with ice-packs and more than willing to stand by and fan you till it's over. the spiffy chairs also slide into reclined positions without me having to move.

But if you still think this whole thing is intruiging, let me add more.

The Blood-Plasma donation has two "programs" in addition to just regular donations.

one program is their "Tetanus Program" ... what that means, is if your plasma has a high count of Tetanus anti-bodies, (recent Tetanus boosters) you can get on the program, ... they'll pay you more for your plasma, (they can use it for people with Lock-Jaw) and every six months they'll give you another small Tetanus booster.

The Second Program is their "Hepatitus Program" ... if you have high "Hep. B" immunities ... which are a little harder to get, ... they'll pay you alot more (more than double) for your donations (if you do it twice a week.) and your plasma is quite valuable.

If one is on BOTH programs, it's actually possible to make enough money to live on.

I'm still waiting for my test results to see if I qualify for the programs or not. ^_^

With an extremely heartfelt Thank You to my Grandparents, I am now in possession of a New (to me at least) car.

a 1999 Ford Explorer SUV, ... which is roughly a Gold color, (though my mom argues "tan" my brother "light-brown" and others say simply "metallic-brown" you kinda get the idea of what color it is. )

This was a blessing I never expected, since there's no way I could afford a new car right now, and transportation has been very difficult. The timing was absolutely perfect, and even though it's not the kind of car I ever would have chosen for myself, I love it! ^_^

Suffice it to say it's a bright spot in what was otherwise a very stressful week for me. XD

Just wanted to pass on the news.

Since we are coming up on a new year, and the usual "New Years resolutions" (A.K.A. unacheivable goals) are expected to be set. I've been pondering trying to do another larger contiguous project set. Whether or not it'll actually happen awaits to be seen. but I want to try...

the real question is... what should I DO? I have several ideas, but I can't really decide which would be better, so I figured I pose them to you and let you guys offer your suggestions!

1. a 2010 Calender. (and if so... what should the theme be?)

2. A set of "7 Heavenly Virtues" ... the counter-point to my "7 deadly Sins"

3. the 12 (13?) chinese zodiac animals... (as characters)

4. the Western Zodiac (as characters)

5. Other? (suggestions??)

PLEASE keep in mind.... that I would LOVE to do any of these! so please don't answer "whatever you want"... the point is I can't decide.

Greetings and Salutations Watchers and Passerby!

As I'm sure most of you are curious, today I wanted to explain the phenomenon I've dubbed "Loss of Ignorance Syndrome" ... I do believe there are other terms and names for this problem as well.

But basically, LoIS is what occures when a person enters a field of study or dedicates themselves to a certain area of knowledge, PARTICULARLY in the entertainment industry. It's what happens when you are learning to become a Game Designer... the more you learn and practice about games, the things you love... the less you can just sit down and ENJOY them. Everything you touch, you begin to critique, it becomes habit! So that glorious state of involvement where time disapears and nothing but the game matters becomes increasingly difficult to find. You analyze and ponder the game you're playing ... taking it apart in your mind...

LoIS also occures in film and animation, it occures in Novels and books, it occures in Music.

Things slowly lose some of that magical wonder as you learn how and why they work.

More and more I've found myself suffering from LoIS, particularly as I've been studying more than one thing, Books, Movies, Games, and slowly Music have all been slowly creeping away, becoming less and less enrapturing... Perhaps that is why people who are true proffessionals will only get the best work in their feilds... because everything else becomes a critique fest and loses much of it's enjoyment factor.

Now.... I'm not saying I would give up anything I have learned in favor of the ignorance, but sometimes I get this wistfull regret when I can no longer just ENJOY something for the sake of enjoyment....

I was just linked to this petition, and while I usually don't bother much with those, I'd love to help this one!

Due to the leakage of about 12 chapters of the rough draft of "Midnight Sun" (the book "Twilight" from Edward's perspective ... written by Stephenie Meyer.) Stephenie has indefinetally cancelled writing the book. This petition is mostly a show of hands from her loyal fans who want to see her continue writing! Hopefully we can encourage her to do so. ^_^

the weekend before last, I was invited to attend the first ever "Montecito Anime Art Expo". Which was held at a fine arts school approximately half an hours drive North-East of where I live.

The Art Expo, was small, as was to be anticipated by the convention's first run. But was never-the-less quite enjoyable. The people there were friendly, and though the Artist's Alley was small and a bit crowded, we became good friends during the two days of each other's constant company. aside from small music competitions, and general advice tossed around, we goofed off, and had a great deal of fun while at the same time doing what we could to sell what we had.

Hopefully I can get a copy of the collaberative poster we all sketched on, to show off to you guys! But if any of the rest of you are in the area next year, I'd offer the suggestion to stop by, it was small but very nice.

The fires have been pretty much contained or put out now, though the air quality still leaves much to be desired, the sky above is blue again, and they don't believe there is any more dangers from the dying fires.

I'm fine, the fires turned away before they got too close to where I live, but hundreds of homes were burned by the multiple blazes.

the thousands of people currently without homes or much possessions still need your prayers.

Just thought I'd tack on an update for you guys, in case any of you had heard of the Annual Southern California Fires, and were concerned.

(I will give you my damaged report on the Montecito Anime Art Expo next journal. Promise! )

Yes, it's true... So-Cal has fires every single year, and every year I have to breath in smoke, and watch the ash filled sky.

but this year, was a bit worse than some... more home damage from the fires, (particularly the ones in Los Angeles) a LOT of fires in a very short period of time... but even more worrisome.... they're alot closer to home than they have been before. Cutting off Freeways that run by my house, JUMPING freeways I travel to get to school. there are several "Orange County" fires. (which is where I live)

and though I'm not in the immediate danger area, I've been warned to be ready to evacuate if need be... my home is in the middle zone between three of the biggest flames. 20-30 miles North and East in particular... Southward is where the fires came from. and the winds until this morning, were blowing west-ward. now they've shifted East, which is better, and they're not the 70mph Santa Ana's they started as.

Suffice it to say, it's been a nerve-wracking weekend, I could WATCH the smoke darken and spread across the sky, I could see the actual flames licking in the distance from the lookout point near my house.

But fires do happen EVERY YEAR. and we know what to do, so I'm fine, and will continue to be so. But alot of people have lost their homes...

So send a prayer to those less fortunate and hope we can contain the rest of these fires quickly. :3

Thanks so much! and Don't worry, Southern Cali residents are good at handling these Weather issues, just as much as the foul weather you get where you live.

Hello again all! ^_^ as some of you already know, last weekend I attended a convention up in Lancaster California, called "Autumn Dream".... which USED to be called "Animagic".

It was quite a bit smaller than the conventions I was attending over the summer but never-the-less I found it to be alot of fun. for the attendance costs, it was worth the effort to go, I feel I did well there, and I met alot of great people! ^_^

Being stationed in the Artist's Alley, (in the BACK of the Alley) ... I found much to my delight, that I could see and hear all the panels and performances from the comfort and convenience of my seat. At times the noise was a little loud, but that had alot more to do with the poor acoustics of the room, than with the talented sound team.

I definetally plan to attend again next year! ^_^ and if any of you Californians are close enough, I would recommend it as a fun "in-between" convention during the slow months.

The only downside of the convention for me, was the dryness of the air, which I am NOT used to, (I live closer to the ocean...) and the unfortunate timing of a stomach bug I caught from my brother.

neither of which are really the fault of the con.

Anyways, I had fun, and that's what counts! ^_^ ... There is STILL HOPE that I can get an Artist's Alley Table or two for Anime L.A. and if I do, that'll be the next convention I attend!

If not, it's Sakuracon Next for me... I wasn't on top of the registration over the busy summer and missed a couple deadlines...

MOST of you do not know this, but I actually Teach and Tutor art proffessionally. Mostly fine arts and the basics... but never-the-less...

The reason I'm telling you all this NOW, is because as part of our lessons, I encouraged my Primary Art student to join DeviantART! My hope is that with input from more people than myself and her parents as to her progress, and other artist's giving constructive critisism, will help her develop more confidence in her work!

As for the second half of the mentioned Journal Subject... I (and mine) have recently aquired a few NIFTY new toys, that I keep meaning to mention and totally forget to!

as you may know, ~Jayetta picked up a Button Maker that she and I have been happily using! ^_^

what you do NOT know... is that as a birthday present to me ~Jayetta gave me a Copic Airbrush system tip and converter, ... well at first we thought it was an air-can and that I was all ready to go with the airbrushing stuff, but it turns out it was just a converter...

But THAT problem was solved by ~fader48080 (who, by the way, LOVES solving problems...) He bought me a full out Air Compressor, when he learned I couldn't use the present I was given yet. ... but I have to clean my room to get the space to play with it... :3 .... I'm quite eager to give it a run! XD

Lastly, my older brother, ~Khodexus has been spending A LONG TIME, slowly saving up money for a PS3.... but when he found out last week that the specific kind he wanted (namely backwards compatible) were no longer being manufactured, and were in fact... already a rare commodity, he added a little to his savings and footed for one before they became marketably extinct!

One of my favorite stories, complete with some of my favorite characters. This tale takes a whole different twist on MAGIC. and with characters like Simkin running around, this story is NEVER boring! I think any good fantasy buff or even Sci-Fi buff should definetally give this series a read!

The Deathgate Cycle by: Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman.

Star Craft: The Speed of Darkness by: Tracy Hickman.

A great read for any true gamer, this story sheds a whole new eerie light on the wars between Zergs and Terrans, it'll keep you on the edge of your couch but it won't disappoint you!

The Obsidian Trilogy by: Mercedes Lackey and James Mallory.

A very intruiging story with all the wonderfully classic fantasy elements, her races have so much character and depth! I absolutely fell in love with her portrayal of elven society. And you love to hate her demons!

The Heralds of Valdemar by: Mercedes Lackey.

While this series contains more books than I can count, it's so much fun to read! so many different enthralling characters, and intruiging settings! my personal favorites are "By the Sword" and "Take a Theif". :3

The Belgariad by: David Eddings.

A facinating story of a young man with an amazing destiny! David Eddings never fails to add a great intruige and humorous characters to his tales, but I do warn that his over-powered protagonists tend to be a drawback of this author.

"Magician's Gambit"
"Castle of Wizardry"
"Enchanters' End Game"

Icewind Dale Trilogy by: R.A. Salvatore.

Also known as the first "Drizzt" trilogy. while these three books do have a prequel, it actually makes more sense to read Icewind Dale first! Drizzt is probably the most recognisable single character in any D&D story ever created. and he's an absolutely facinating protagonist! So far the stories have been great! but I'm a little concerned about a "soap opera" trend I've noticed in the last edition or two to the saga.

The Immortals by: Tamora Pierce.

Since I imagine MOST of you have never Heard of "Siggraph" lemme offer an explanation. SIGGRAPH is the number one Computer Animation Convention. I had the privilege of attending it one day last week. I hadn't really been planning on it, since I hadn't realized it was actually in California This year, but the day before I ended up going, I found out that my school was offering Free passes for the students to attend! (Exhibition hall and Job Fair.) It was AMAZING!!! flippin' EVERYONE was there! a whole slew of game companies and animation companies, everyone who was anyone. Blizzard, Insomniac Games, Cartoon Network, Pixar, Disney, Obsidian, Intel, and even some odd ones like ESPN and NVIDIA. (there's alot more than that but I'm not going to list all hundred+ names.) I basically came to the conclusion that I don't really know diddly squat about 3-D and even my 2-D needs a WHOLE LOTTA WORK. (though I did get the compliment of having really good Ink work.) and the suggestion to try and submitt some work to TokyoPop. Which I'd considered before but I had a few misconceptions cleared up by "Jim Rivers" who used to work at my school. (He now works for Obsidian.)

Suffice it to say, I HIGHLY, HIGHLY recommend attendance to ANYONE who has interest in the industries. Animation OR game. it was a very inspiring and educational experience. :3

This is an issue which has been bothering me for a while now....

Everywhere I go, I run into more experienced artists, and over the years I have been warned and carefully introduced to the idea that as I progressed as an artist there would be those people who saw fit to do nothing more than tear down my work and "flame" me.

So for years I have been waiting, biding my breath, plotting my responses to the most likely uninformed and possibly hippocritical statements meant to degrade my work and my proffession.

I have waited... I have watched...

I have committed SO MANY crimes by which I could have the accusing fingers pointed!

I draw Anime,
I draw Fanart,
I draw Comics,
Doujinshi,
Furries/Anthros,
Monsters,
Dragons and other mythological beings,
Chimeras,
I write Fanfiction,
and (horror of horrors) CROSSOVER fanfiction!!
I draw shirtless and sometimes nude humans...

and yet... despite my many and repeated transgressions...

there has been absolute silence from the antagonistic critisism department.

Being flammed for one's work is an artist's MILESTONE! a Trial to be overcome that marks a new level of accomplishment.

So what have I not done wrong? why have I never heard one single biased complaint?

I feel disapointed! where are all the petty flamers? where are all the n00bs and chatspeak-oriented anarchists?

Last Year, I had unintentionally upset a few people by not giving them Forwarning about my impending yearly aging process. So here's your heads up! though admittedly not much of one.

My Birthday is this Coming Friday, July 25th! ^_^ my brother ~Khodexus ages the day after, July 26th! XD (Said brother also already gave me a B-Day Present! :3 he took me to see "Dark Knight" on the first day! it was a GREAT movie! )

and for those of you who are invited, our Joint Swim-party will be on August 2nd. (Yes... AFTER I've bought myself "Breaking Dawn" the night before! X3 )

That said, I'm not really expecting any presents from you guys, you don't have to do anything I won't be disappointed, but I've discovered that some people don't want to be denied the OPPORTUNITY to provide something special.

On an unrelated Topic... My Family, Freinds, and I have finally settled on our "Company Name". Since I almost never go to conventions alone if I can help it, and I have many creative Siblings and Freinds who want to join me in my business efforts, and I'm fine with that. But going by "Jianre Moriancomer" as my "DBA" (Doing Business As) title wouldn't really allow me to include other people well. And so after months of collaborating and Brain Storming...

"Star Dragon Studios" Has been Born!! From this point onward it's most likely that you'll find me at Conventions selling work under this name. ^_^

I've already reserved a DeviantART name, ~StarDragonStudios though I've yet to put anything on that or our new website [link] but that will all be coming soon!!

The logo is in it's final stages of preparation and we should have something more impressive soon!

Greetings and Salutations Watchers, and Passerby!

I just finished playing through the Second "Kingdom Hearts" game this week, entirely due to the fact that so many of my watchers enthusiastically requested an "Organization 13" bookmark set.
And since I'm a bit of a perfectionist and certainly very insistant on doing the best I can with any project I put effort towards, I've been doing my research, trying to learn about the characters and their personalities.

I will admit one thing right off the bat, ... I LIKE Organization XIII! ... I didn't entirely expect to, I've never been much impressed with KH as a general rule. But the Organization had some decent character designs.

THAT outta the way... I actually don't like the game itself. I Dislike it MORE having played through it, than my minor beefs with the game concept before hand. I was VERY dissatisfied with the story, I think it's poorly written and most of the characters are flat and entirely predictable. I hated the plot-twists and story-arcs. and I actually really dislike Sora as a character. He's so flat it's painful to watch him... even the corny hokey aspects of the game wouldn't have bothered me except for the poor execution of the story itself. (and the inherent weaknesses in the story.)

Now It has been suggested that I might like the first game better, an oppinion I'm highly dubious about, but I'm willing to give it the benefit of a trial play. ... I also will TRY to refrain from venting too much of my frustrations with KH2 here online, since I know alot of you like it, and I can respect that.

I can also admitt that the game play and core mechanics of the game were solid and fun.

Now that I've THAT outta my system... I actually have an IMPORTANT question to pose to those of you who are big fans of Kingdom Hearts....

I'm still doing the bookmark set, like I said, I LIKED the Organization, I like them alot. (my favorites being Demyx, Axel, and Roxas... though Xigbar also amuses me alot.)

but I noticed as I was finishing the game, that the number of Organization members I had encountered didn't add up... there was some missing, and I've seen enough fanart to identify them too. So ... where are the rest of them?

I still need to find: Marluxia, Vexen, Lexaeus, Zexion, and Larxene. ....

My suspicion is that they must be in another game, but I'm pretty sure they don't appear in the first one...

Alrighty, now for the more Official Convention report!

Anime Expo was a blast! And I have to say I originally was a little concerned I wouldn't enjoy myself as much as previous years due to being stuck in the Artist's Alley, but I found this wasn't the case! My table ironically, got moved to facing the back wall, instead of being somewhere in the third row, but I didn't mind, we still got alot of traffic there!

I doubt I would have been able to handle it all without the help of my best friend ~Jayetta who faithfully sat at my table the whole convention, I couldn't convince her to leave!! and for those of you who visited my table, ~Jayetta was responsible for all of the lovely jewelry we had displayed there! Stuff like this:

my newest fan ~seru-crescent not only spent more money buying my work than any other single buyer, but she also kept me and Jay company during the entire convention and fetched us lunch each day which was an amazing help for us poor starving Artists. (mmm... hotdogs... )

As I mentioned before, I did manage to run off and get some bookmarks signed, Both Edward Elric, and Winry Rockbell, from their respective Voice Actors (Vic and Caitlin). And I happily exchanged them signed bookmarks from Yours Truely.

I saw alot of new faces and several familiar ones! Some from A-Kon, and Some from Califurr, which was facinating in and off itself! X3

But despite all my best efforts, I have not made enough money to get out of the "red" yet as far as business matters are concerned, and I won't be able to afford to attend Anime Fest in Texas.

But I'm on the lookout for some (preferably local) conventions later in the year, so if anyone has some good suggestions I'm all ears!

Sometimes I really hate being resistant to pain-killers!!

I just finished getting a Root-Canal at the Dentist's office... and not only did he have to use twice the amount of anesthetic to begin with, but just outta the office and already my tooth and jaw aches!! the numbness is wearing off fast and I'm not a happy camper...

Thankfully he proscribed Vicodin, and I'm hoping that'll do the trick for the next couple days... (interspersed with IBuprophen of course.)

Not having to attend School for a bit feels great! I finished my Finals the week before last, and I've been keeping busy on Commissions and Bookmarks the last couple weeks. I just submitted for review the last piece of a six-part commission for *canology, so here's to hoping he likes it. Once those pieces are published I'll post them here on DA as per his request.

Thanks to the conventions I've been attending I have ALOT of commissions lined up! ^_^ and I'm quite happy with that! However if you DID commission something from me and you're not on the list, or else you WANT to commission something from me, please let me know!! I keep the list there both for YOUR benefit, and for mine. (horrible memory... )

Anime Expo is coming up fast! So I'm trying to get those bookmarks finished! I have the "Fullmetal Alchemist - Resembool Set" almost fully inked, but I haven't had the chance to color either set due to my frantic work on above mentioned commission. Unfortunetally it's also horrendously hot in Southern California right now... (well.. more last week than today) it was getting up in the high-ninties and sometimes in the hundreds... ... and since my room has NO Air Conditioning what-so-ever, the amount of time I could committ to computer coloring was very limited... anyways, the forcast says it should be cooling down a bit so I hope it does and stays! :3

Hello again Watchers and Random Passerby,

I'm back from Texas! Where I spent the Weekend at =moral-extremist's house, and attended A-Kon for the first time! I also was selling prints and merchandise at an ANIME convention for the first time! (sharing a table with Yukio.)

For my first attempt at selling at an Anime Con I thought things went pretty well! I met alot of new people and learned alot of things, and although I didn't sell as much work as I would have liked, I hope that this stepping stone will help me do even better in the future!

For those of you who attended the convention I was stationed with Yukio (=moral-extremist) at the "PikaPirate Studios" Table... the one with the glittery yellow table-cloth and the custom chibi badge commissions.

right next to me (to my right, or YOUR left.) was *KrisCynical who, by the way, in addition to being an AWSOME table-mate/neighbor, is an absolutely INCREDIBLE artist!! (seriously! Check out her pretty stuffs!! ... I bought a print too! XD )

IF Yukio is attending AnimeFest this year, I might try to go to that one too! which could be alot of fun, but I'll have to see what things look like after Anime Expo! (during which I'm hoping to sell off the remaining merchandise I DIDN'T sell at A-Kon.. )

For those of you who missed me at A-Kon, or who wanted something and couldn't get it there... I'm willing to e-mail order out anything you've seen at my booth or ALMOST anything I have displayed here on DA. I still have lots of prints and bookmarks left, and I'll be posting up the other miscellanious items as well...

All in all, the con was great fun! And I hope to be able to do it again next year! (and see some of the people's I missed.)

In the aftermath of the Convention... I seem to have come down with whatever the rest of my family has been getting ... (long incubation period on this bug.) So In addition to Jet-Lag and Convention-Lag I've been sleeping off this nasty cold. I seem to be on the mend after lots of food and copious amounts of rest, so hopefully you'll be seeing more work from me soon! (Most notably, I've pretty much finished the next "Artistic Compulsion" Comic! :3 it's kinda a long one, so I hope you enjoy it.)

Greetings and Salutations Watchers of mine,

First off.... I want to put up a very important notation and guide for those of my fellow deviants who are collecting their own dragons from the "DragCave" site.

unfortunately I have found that it's nearly impossible to get enough views for your dragons on Deviantart.... they just won't get enough clicks and unique views within the time-frame alloted before they would die. And since I am primarily responsible for the spreading popularity of the little dragon eggs, I thought I should explain how to keep your baby dragons from dying (since I can't seem to catch everyone before they snag eggs, and not everyone tells me.)

Basically it boils down to this: The best way to keep your dragons alive is to post them in the DragCave Guild on Gaia.... You're going to want to post them in The Egg Sanctuary (using the "BB" style code)... once your hatchlings or eggs have been posted there, I can almost guarantee that they'll survive! ... but please be courteous and if you can click the other eggs there to return the favor. ^_^

..... Wow.....

I am one TIRED wolfess. =.= But that convention was great! I learned a lot and made some new friends! and although I didn't get to participate in very many of the convention activities I enjoyed watching the con attendees having so much fun, and listening to regaling tales of the various events.

I sold some prints and a few bookmarks, and a good number of commissions! both big and small. And I was very INSISTANTLY informed of one particular shortcoming in my attempted business...

Apparently I am NOT charging enough. .... Every single person who commissioned an Index Card piece from me, (and several people who didn't.) told me I was definitely not charging enough for my work. I was charging $5 for them... and I was told that I should be charging a MINIMUM of $15 for them. Apparently people were selling the same kind of artwork (sometimes not even as high a quality) in the Dealer's Den for $35 + .... That's around what I was charging for a COLORED inked piece...

So due to the general consensus.... I'm going to be raising my prices... , now before anyone freaks out... I'm not going to make the prices for everything jump upwards immediately, nor will I be tacking on an extra charge for anyone who already has a Commission agreement with me. But I'll be raising the prices steadily until they reach a point where I'm earning what I should for my work.

As a general rule I am very pleased with the results from this Con. I made enough money to pay for my costs and a little extra! A-kon should go over even better. I'm very excited about it.... even though I'm completely exhausted already...

Oh... and I want a Furrsuit now... Before I had been hesitant to go for a furrsuit because I have a very particular idea in mind for what I would want and I hadn't really seen anything that indicated it could be done very well.....

however, after attending Califurr, I know that not only is it possible, it can look REALLY cool! so I might save up to get myself a good suit! I'll probably commission ~StripedWolf since she already knows what I would want and I like the quality of her work!

Now for those who are waiting on the Contest Decision, I'll be posting the final decision in my next Journal Update!

Pertaining to Polls and Bookmarks!!

Rather than explain this repeatedly on a case-by-case basis, Allow me to explain the method by which I will be making my bookmark sets!

First off, I'm sure most of you have noticed the numerous polls I've created, inquiring about bookmarks. While I'm sure this might get annoying, it DOES serve a valid purpose!!

I eventually intend to make as many bookmark fanart sets as possible, but I wanted to get opinions on which sets should come in what priority, hence the polls! Now I basically split it up into "Type of Media" and I then make one big poll with the top-two choices from each of the specific polls, to determine what to add to my list!

To determine which bookmark sets I'll do next please vote on my poll!! Each vote is carefully counted, and often the secondary choices mentioned in comments serve as tie-breakers!!

Hello again folks! I keep forgetting to update my journal while I'm on DeviantART so here we go!

The first matter to attend to, is my CONTEST! The Deadline has passed, though I have been very busy these last few weeks and haven't been able to attend to it. IF there are no more submissions as of this point I will end the contest and start the judging!

HOWEVER... if you have an In-Progress Contest Entry Peice, PLEASE Note me Right away, and I might be able to give you a little time to finish it. I like to let people participate if they want to!!

The Second Order of business is just that... my business.. I'm terribly swamped with responsibilities right now, and peices are slow to progress at this point. With Commission work and preparing for my First Convention Tables, ... tied up with Homework and Work-work. I'm trying to better manage my time with all of this, but it's not something that comes easily to me... however you may rest easy with the knowledge that I AM working on stuff! ... just slowly.

My bookmarks and my commissions are my current top-priority. I'll also be selling my Board game "Ternion Tribes" for the very first time at Califurr! I MIGHT also be able to sell it here! XD I hope so at least!

which brings me to yet ANOTHER point of interest! The Game Company I work with... "Victory Point Games" is really a place you guys should check out! We specialize in small easy-to-play games, board games, war games, any kinda games really... but the best part is that Victory Point Games is designed for the ASPIRING Game Designer. Alrighty folks! I'm back from Sakuracon! Seattle was beautiful! and quite a learning experience to visit! someone had told me they were having a "heatwave" down there... and so... being a spoiled So-Californian, I only packed a jacked or two and then my normal fare of dress... Eee-gads!! It was SNOWING! it was about 30 degrees in Seattle, whereas here in So-cal it's about 80-90 degrees.... so that 50* difference was quite a shock. I loved the scenery though, So many trees! I can totally envision how the "Cullens" could survive in that area! XD
Speaking of books... I picked up "Sunshine" as per another deviant's recomendation... and I liked it! But I really hope it has a sequel because that story is NOT finished..
I also had the wonderful fortune of my older brother purchasing "Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core" before our trip! That game is AWSOME!

So aside from freezing while I was outdoors, The convention was a blast! They had some really interesting Panels. (Including the "Turk's Coffee Break" which had cake! ) Great Karaoke, and the Exibiters hall was really awsome! A whole lot more diverse than AX... they were selling all SORTS of stuff! it was facinating!

I got a few little figurines, (dragon statue) a new Edward Elric Plushie, which I also got signed by Vic Mignogna. A model of "Diablos" from FF8, and poster from *jiuge it was a toss-up between that one and this one, but I have to admit... I like Vincent better.

BY THE WAY... that "17 hour" drive? ... no such thing... it was 22 HOURS!!! each way! I'm totally blasted... when I got home, I couldn't walk straight! Mind you... I didn't take the LAST driving shift... but I did get to drive the morning shift... watch the sunrise and all that fun stuff... even averaging 80-90 mph, It took that long... T-T

Just as recap! I went down with ~amascusmage, ~Khodexus, and ~Jayetta! We shared a hotel room... and between the lot of us, there's plenty of pictures! XD

Heya folks! I'm headin' out for a while! I'll be attending Sakuracon this weekend down in Seatle Washington! (I live in Southern California..... it's an 18 hour drive... ) We leave tomorrow morning at 7:00am PST.

"Freyr Brandr Svaldifari"

Since my Poll question seemed to be a bust... Let me try again where I can use my literary skills to my advantage!!

The question I'm trying to pose is:

IF I were to write an ORIGINAL story using my Original Character "Freyr". What should the story be about?

Now, some of you know who Freyr is, and what he's like. But the majority of you barely know diddly squat right?... right. so let me explain.

Freyr was originally a character I created to play in a Final Fantasy 7 Role-Play.

Now I like to RP alot! and I'd already made one other character for the stories my fellow RPers and I were playing. THAT character, was:

"Vaizel Dammarung Tuefel"

Vaizel was designed to be an angsty, revenge-driven, borderline psychopath. A character stereotype I hadn't really played with Prior to Vaizel. When I was asked to play another character, I decided I wanted to do something kinda the opposite of Vai, and almost instantaniously, Freyr popped into my head!

Freyr is intentionally goofy, over-the-top teasing, and bubbly happy-go-lucky, without ACTUALLY being stupid. His "never serious" attitude allows people to always underestimate him. He's alot of fun to play, and is generally dreaded by the other Characters in the game, (and loved by the players.) I've since fallen quite in love with Freyr, and never really wanted to desert him as simply "an RP character".

I've since started a story that has a temporary title of "FF Modified". Where I took the aspects of Final Fantasy 7 that were required for the fun original storylines we had devised in our many RPs, and created an entirely new world to work with. I am working on creating a Graphic Novel of that one.

But someone mentioned to me that they would LOVE to see Freyr in an actual Novel! and it occured to me, that he might make a fun literature character too!

But I haven't the foggiest Idea what kind of story would best suite him,... I would want to do something different than our "FF Modified". Without losing what is classically Freyr.

Hence my asking for suggestions!

As many of you may have already guessed... I'm trying hard to make it obvious that I'm still offering Commissions.

Now as a breif disclaimer, I am still working on Commissions for my "Taskmaster". *canology, I will keep working on those steadily, but I'm the kind of person who tends to work on multiple projects at one time. (as many of you may have noticed). and I have some types of peices I can work on during times that I can't work on other projects.

Anyways, I want to pull up some new examples of peices I can do. I know alot of you don't have money, so I tried to come up with faster, cheaper types of commissions I can offer.

Index Card art. $5.

done on a 3x5 Index Card, rendered in ball-point pen. These come fully shaded, and the original will be mailed to the commissioner. (S&H included in the cost.)

Larger Card art. $8.

done on a 4x6 Index Card, rendered in ball-point pen. These come fully shaded, and the original will be mailed to the commissioner. (S&H included in the cost.)

Vector / Tatoo art. $5 - $15 *depending on complexity.

I am more than willing to further experiment with this style if requested. (Vectorization by ~amascusmage included in the cost.)

I can do badges if anyone's interested as well.

Note me if you decide you want to purchase a commission, My prefered method of payment is "Money Order" but I can take Check and Paypal as well.

Now on to my suspicion!!

I've always had the suspicion that perhaps some people think I can only do the kinds of work I portray here, and they don't want to ask me to do something if I haven't done something like it before...

THIS IS NOT TRUE!!! ... I LOVE a good challenge! Probably my greatest skill is in conceptual work, I'm good at drawing things from descriptions, I'm good at creating visuals where none existed before! I love making new creatures and new characters and I'm not afraid to delve into genres I haven't previously.

So please, Don't be afraid to commission me to do work that is very different from my usual stuff, or...

Guns! ... now for those of you who don't know this about me.. I'm very anti-gun-control. I'm very fond of the phrase "Gun Control is Using Both Hands!". But despite my personal veiws on weapon possession, I got my first experience of going down to a range and actually getting to fire off some guns!!

Now I'm not certain I remember exactly what the types of guns all were... perhaps ~fader48080 can correct me if I get them wrong.

I know I got to fire a Bolt-action .22 rifle with peep sight, and a semi-auto .22 with scope.
I fired 3 different .22 pistols, one semi-auto, and two revolvers, one regular and one dual-action.
There was a stronger revolver that I fired off, but I didn't catch the caliber, and another couple pistols I wasn't certain on the specs for. but I also had alot of fun with the .17 bolt-action with scope! that one had good sights on it.

suffice it to say it was a learning experience, but more importantly... I had a whole lotta fun! XD definetally want to go back next chance I get!

HEYA WATCHERS!!!

Thanks so much for all of you who expressed well wishes and concern over my knee from the journal previous... it's not hurting me anymore, some pain releivers and taking it easy healed that up really quickly.

So anyways, My Family Tradition... In our house we open presents on Christmas Eve Night... this started when I was a little kid, and my family lived in Utah, because we would go Skiing EARLY Christmas Morning!

So despite the fact that we now live in So-Cal, and no Skiing occures, we still uphold this tradition.

This means I opened the majority of my christmas presents tonight! Now normally I wouldn't make a big deal of such things, 'cause I don't like to sound like a braggart or something, but I want to give some extra fame and thanks to my older brother ~Khodexus

Who gave me a PSP for Christmas!! I have no idea how he afforded it!! But I never saw it coming!! He even loaned me HIS memory stick and HIS games to play with!
So I want all of you to go say hi and maybe comment on his artwork if you could! After all... I learned from him originally... even though the tables have turned since I got into art school, he's still very creative and has great concept work!

EDIT: perhaps I need to clarify a little... it's not ALWAYS hurting, and in fact the pain has been fading as the day progresses. It MOSTLY hurts when my knee is bent and weight is on it at the same time... so climbing stairs, or transitioning between sitting and standing... it's not really an issue when I'm walking, nor when I'm just sitting and chilling.

Nor is the pain so severe that I need surgery or even a doctors appointment, ( at least... I don't think so.) I just wanted suggestions as how best to help it heal, or how not to aggravate it more y'know? I'm trying to stay off it as much as possible and take it easy and stuff.

I hurt my knee.... though actually more like my knee is spazzing out, I haven't had knee problems in years! Though I used to get 'em in High School alot... see... I have an issue where the tendons and ligaments under my knee cap swell up,... making it really painful to walk and stuff...

except this time it's just painful to bend the knee... a little different than the usual chronic problem I had before... ... been takin' IB Profen and stuff, (anti-inflamitory pain-killers) but does anyone else have a suggestion? the pain just popped up during work yesterday, (while I was takin' orders and stuff) and it got steadily worse during my shift... it's not hurting as much now as it did last night, but it's still really tender and painful to bend.

Gonna toss several ideas your way guys, so I'll separate them out into categories, whatever you're interested in, lemme know k?

FINALS!

EDIT: Monday has come... and so far I passed everything, didn't get great grades in either U.S. History or Art History, but then history was never my best subject....

I got a "B" in Story Writing. and I haven't gotten a grade yet for 3-D Modeling... I'm really hopin' I did okay in that one... >.>

My finals are DONE!!! won't get back all my grades until more like Monday, but there's that certain feeling of absolute releif,... when it doesn't matter anymore if you did good or bad... but just that it's OVER!

I did get back a grade from my "Visual Language and Culture" class.... the one where I played Halo?... And I got a solid "A". guess I'm good at FPS eh?

ADDICTION!

The Halo demo I snagged from school, kinda got frusterating after a while, I mean. we could only get 4 players on the LAN and we could only play one level y'know?
So I wanted to play something else... and my brother ~amascusmage had mentioned that Unreal Tournament 2003, had just about the same controls as Halo for the PC.
Now I'm completely addicted... We downloaded all the RPG mode stuff, and the new game modes like "Invasion" and "mutant" and I just can't seem to get enough of it!
My character is lvl 2232. I have maxed all the abilities, though I just keep racking up the percentage of health and damage reduction. (though I'm thinking of trading Ultima for Ghost at this point.) and I slaughter most any bot in one hit. Invasion is still fun though, I'm just looking for a weapon with "Sturdy" on it, 'cause all that flying around from rockets and shock rifles is giving me a headache.

I'm also gonna be starting back up on Final Fantasy XI this week. My brother ~Khodexus and I bought the "Wings of the Goddess" expansion, so my goal is to learn and play the game well enough to qualify to be a "Game Master" for Squeenix.

INSPIRATION!

We had my "Stake Conference" meeting for church a few weeks back, we get one of those every so many months and all. It's a more special church service where we have talks from some of the people who are more.... respected if you will... in the Mormon Church.
Anyways, this one was really special, we had a member of the "Quorum of the Twelve" visit and speak. Elder David A. Bednar. Its not every day they get the chance to come and speak to individual congregations! Anyways... I have to say, it was one of the most inspiring talks I've ever heard. I'll never think of Christmas trees and decorations the same way.

Now, I'll try to explain a little bit why, though understand it may not make as much sense to those of you not famili...

Alright, so monday afternoons I have a class called "Visual Language and Culture". .... nobody knows what exactly you're supposed to do in that class... even the teacher is pretty vauge, but it's a general ed course and required so he teaches it.
Anyways, it's probably the single most 'random' class I have ever had.... everything from photography to AMV's to comics we've had to do as homework for that class..... but THIS week, our homework ... well... it was just awsome.
The teacher sat us down, linked us to a folder on the network, and for two hours in-class we played Halo as our homework assignment.
You heard right... MY HOMEWORK WAS TO PLAY GAMES!!!! I don't have to write up a paper on the games or anything I just have to PLAY THEM!!!

... man... that just cracks me up!

So anyways, I found out some interesting news, turns out my website hosting provider changed their policies, nowadays one can use their hosting space for more than one URL at a time! so the cost of one set of hosting and as many .com names as you care to purchase! That sounds pretty sweet to me! XD

EDIT: Hey everybody!! I'm back from the convention! XD

I gotta say, it was a real blast! Just being there, even though I was working most of the time, it was great!

Now the convention I'm talking about is the "FINAL FANTASY XI Fan Festival 2007." The focus this year was the new expansion "Wings of the Goddess".
It was pretty awsome! They had all sorts of games and prizes and cool stuff, every person who got a ticket also got an FFXI backpack, and free stuff for their online character. They had a tour preview of the two new classes featured in "Wings of the Goddess", which are "Scholar" and "Dancer". They also listed all the new updates and answered some requests and questions. (by popular demand they are adding a 'cheese sandwich' recipe to the game.)

Now I was staff, so I got to man the game booths and help gaurd the doors. I also had an assignment that involved walking around the con with a camcorder recording the various events... ( *cough* stalking people *cough* ) There was alot to see, lotsa great FFXI cosplayers and cool stuff. I ended up getting a couple of small items from the left-over booths, and of course... the nifty black "staff" t-shirt that isn't even available for purchase anywhere! (even though I think it's way cooler than the other T-Shirts one could find... )

Now I don't have much in the way of photos... I WAS working, but I did manage to get my picture taken with the Mythra and Hume girls at the photo booth. (During my break) So I'll upload that for ya guys k? XD

Definetally a convention I'd recommend for any FFXI fan! I was very impressed... it was smoothly operated, and well staffed (of course) but they also had lunches (for $5... totally worth it! ) provided by Square-Enix that were available for sale each day of the 3 day con. (I think... at least they were there both days I worked.) There were quests (for special items on FFXI ) and games (playing FFXI also) and even tournaments. (Tarutaru races... contests for new players... team competitions... cosplay competitions... ect... ) Awsome con!

but now I'm kinda bushed... (clocked in almost 20 hours of work the last two days... and only 8 or so of that was today...)

ANOTHER UPDATE: They are still working on containing the Irvine Fire. (more officially called the "Santiago Fire" ) Now the containment is up to 35%.

But aside from that tidbit, much better news has spread across the horizon. The sky that was a horrendous Yellow-grey all week, has turned a glorious blue, streaked with thick blue-grey clouds. The air is sharp with moisture now and smells absolutely delicious. (still burns my nose though... but for different reasons) The winds have shifted and now the sea-breezes are bringing rain clouds. It hasn't started raining yet, (that I know of) but you can feel it coming! XD

Hopefully the rain, (despite the change in wind-direction which isn't always helpful) will assist in these fires.

UPDATE: More than half of the fires have been contained, and many evacuees are being allowed to return to their homes. The fire nearest me, (25 miles give or take) is still burning, only about 30% contained as of the last update.

a red sun rises... blood has been spilt this night.
That rather 'cool' sounding line from "Lord of the Rings" takes on an eerie reality for me now, the smoke is so thick the sun is scarlet, and sometimes even purple, in the sky. Everywhere you go your surroundings are painted a sickly orange. the washed out-grey sky seems so close, it eats up the mountains until you can't see them anymore. Lethargy and headache's persist. And even when the sun is directly overhead it seems sullen and over-cast. (on a cloudless day)
Though individually the fires are not incredibly huge compared to some we've had in the past few years, there are so MANY of them... you can't find a direction to look that isn't choked in smoke.
The ash has been in the air so long I can't hardly smell it anymore, but I can still feel the effects of too much exposure when I do go outside. Never-the-less the progress being made on the fires is encouraging.
I'm still in no danger, (except from being tired and cranky and a little sick) so don't worry about me...

EDIT: I found out more about the fires this morning, It turns out that they are closer than I thought, with Fires ranging down in Irvine and even as close as North Tustin has been evacuated.

The real irony is that the fires closest to me were Arson Fires. Meaning some Pyro...

About the Contest

Basically this is how it works. I made a list of songs, (my goal was 10,... but ... well... I may add more choices later...)
All of the songs I chose had lyrics with a very specific sort of ... Imagery. I wanted something that was somewhat specific, but unrealistic. Fantasy based as it were. My inspiration for the contest was the first song "Last Rose of Summer / Walking in the Air". Where the lyrics have very specific kinds of images but ones that are completely fantastical.

What I want from YOU ... (for the contest) is this: I want a scene. Pick any ONE song and draw/paint or otherwise create some sort of scene/character/feeling from any of the songs below. I don't want a mix of songs, I want one song to be used per image. But I want to see what YOU see in your head when you listen to the words....
The feeling of the music should be taken into account. so keep in mind whether it's a soft song, a jaunty song, or a harsh song.

I am NOT looking for Abstract paintings, that would be for a different contest entirely. Please give me something with a little substance.

Other than that I tried to provide some variety.

You can submit as many entries as you like, but I would prefer if you limited yourself to Three Main Entries.

I tried to choose Music Videos without any... VIDEO portion, but I didn't always succeed, please be original with your work, I want to see YOUR rendition not something inspired from the MV's.

Prizes

1st Place Prize - A Full Colored image of one character (second character negotiable) with Full Color Background!

2nd Place Prize - A full colored image of one character. No background or Simple Background!

3rd Place Prize - A full ink drawing of one character.

Honorable Mentions - Penciled drawings.

Note: Depending on the number of submissions, there might be more than one winner for each place...

The RULES

The judging is ultimately up to me, regardless of whether or not I use other opinions.

No more than 3 entries per artist, each ARTIST can only win once.

1. Work harder at my school classes, (IE, stop slacking off so much.)

2. Register for a P.E. Class at the community college. (equivelent to "work out more".)

3. Aquire a good anatomy reference book and use it... ALOT.

4. Apply for more scholarships.

5. Make certain my short story is at a prospective publisher whenever possible

6. Finish an Analogue game and submitt it for publishing.

7. FINALLY FINISH ALL ART-TRADE / REQUEST PEICES... and stop accepting new ones for a while.

8. Work faster on Commissions

9. Aquire a "table" for at least one Convention. (preferably more.)

10. Watermark all my work, and update my website.
