When I was young, I wished to continue my father's study of medicine, and marry a good woman. I continue in my studies to this day, but have left behind dreams of a family, in lieu of the circumstances.

Migraines suck. New glasses suck even more for giving me said migraines.

Thursday, The Question played at Velour. Which was awesome, as always (more so because ~Khieki came and it was kewl). Those guys get better every time I see them; if you're in the Utah Valley area, definitely make your way to their next show.

Friday, Fictionist played at Velour. OH EM GEE. They are SO good, and not just by local band standards. They're probably the best new band I've heard since...Oppenheimer, I guess (they might be better, but they're very different and can't really be compared). They played all the songs from their as yet unreleased new album, which were pretty much all awesome, and then played Invisible Hand (title track from their first album, which that pic I drew of the guy and the door in the sky is based on/inspired by), I Want You/She's So Heavy (Beatles cover, for those who don't listen to music), and Noisy Birds (another one from the first album). INVISIBLE HAND LIVE IS THE BEST THING EVER OKAY. They're rapidly gaining favorite band status, and their shirt is the comfiest shirt I currently own. Which doesn't really have anything to do with the band, but...it looks cool and it's comfy, so nyah.
Also I discovered I still like Mexican food, because ~teh-wend wanted to eat dinner at a Mexican place, and I got a freaking tasty enchilada, and some chips with delicious salsa and ranch, and the obligatory rice and refried beans (which I never stopped liking in the first place). The only thing I have against it is that it's really really salty, so you have to drink a lot of water, which left me feeling waterlogged as well as really full after the meal. But that's better than still being hungry.

Today, I woke up ludicrously early, cashed my check (yay money), and went to the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival with my mom and other relatives. Sadly, I wasn't able to go on Thursday or Friday because of work and concerts, but I was very happy to go today, and to go to the Laughin' Night event thingy (where all the storytellers tell funny stories) tonight. If you ever happen to be in Utah around Labor Day weekend, go to the festival. Seriously, it's more than worth it. Sitting in huge tents listening to people tell stories might sound dumb at first, but let me tell you, I laughed my head off at some stories, and almost cried during others, as I have all the other years I've been there. It's seriously good stuff.
Then when we finally got back to my grandma's house, we found out my aunt had decided to get rid of some old jewelry she didn't want, and she left a note saying we could have at it. So I got some jewelry (including a "man repellent" fake diamond ring, to keep the creepers away), which is cool. And my mom gave me my presents she bought in California on her Blizzcon/Disneyland/San Diego Zoo trip: some pretty flip flops (which may get me wearing flip flops again), a cute fuzzy stuffed bat, and a fuzzy stuffed baby Jack Skellington. And OMG Baby Jack is the cutest thing in existence <3 You will get a picture soon, because he's that cute.

Tomorrow is Sunday, which pretty much means church and hanging out at ~teh-wend's house, which is fun, but not very noteworthy since we do that every week. However, there are plans to see Star Trek in IMAX on Monday, and maybe make a day trip out of going up to Salt Lake/West Jordan/that general area 8D I'm soooo excited to see ST on a huuuuuge gigantic screen <3333 Never had the desire to see a movie in IMAX before, but...the allure of big pretty spaceships and stuff getting blown up and Zachary Quinto on a really huge screen is just too overpowering, as evidenced by the fact that it's back in there after being out for several months XD

Oh also sometime this week I got the pattern for my Starfleet uniform, so when that's made (Halloween maybe?) you'll get pictures of Stesha in a ridiculously short skirt.

And also I learned tonight that if I ever needed to film a scene where people were drinking wine, and I couldn't get my hands on grape juice, raspberry Crystal Light powder turns water a really deep, dark red that would be quite suitable. So uh...yeah, all you filmmakers out there can remember that one for later if you want.

Sorry that was so long. I'm in a babbling mood right now. I'll go read or something and leave you nice people alone.

In other news, my sister's cat is adorable. She likes listening to music, so she's sitting on a chair looking happy as can be while my dad's over there playing my guitar. It's really cute XD

I'm kind of working on a picture, with an idea for another. Fictionist is cool and has inspired me to draw some things, and not just little pencil sketches. So...look forward to some big colored cool things. I'll try my hardest to actually do these. If I manage to get them done it'll be my first original stuff in quite a while, so I'm really hoping my spark doesn't fizzle out before I get anything done.

Wow, haven't started a journal like that in a while XD

Thought I'd use this thing for documenting purposes today, just 'cause I feel like it.

Hung out with ~Khieki and =Kanna-Maru this weekend. It was fun :3 I spent something like $50, and $40 of it was on Star Trek stuff X3 Then this evening I saw The Question (local band, for those who don't know; my cousin Mike plays piano and sings and my cousin Steve plays guitar, plus a few other very talented guys). They get better every time I see them, I swear. Steve also brought us Fictionist's CD, which is happy. I've only heard a few of their songs (journal title is their lyrics), but I like them a lot. Kinda reminiscent of Pink Floyd.

Also, my sister (~CurtainRodFace, go say hi if you haven't yet) was at my mom's house this weekend, and for some reason they got me a cumberbund(sp?) XD I dunno why, but now I can wear it with my tuxedo shirt I guess. And go buy a black bowtie to go with it. (I used to have a bowtie, but it was blue, and now I don't know where it is anyway, so yeah.) And...maybe a new suit, too. One that actually fits, and isn't blue pretending to be black. (Stupid deceptive suit.)

I really don't want to wake up at 9:30 to get ready for church tomorrow. And I kinda want to wear a Star Trek t-shirt and be lazy. That's probably frowned upon, especially since I have to lead music, but dangit, too many of my shirts that aren't printed t-shirts are either long-sleeved or not very pretty, and at least Star Trek is cool. I dunno. I like church, I just don't like having to get up early and wear nice clothes. Especially in the summer when it's too hot to wear long sleeves. I wish I could wear printed t-shirts to work, too. I look super frumpy at work and it's not fun. I have these fears lately that one of my coworkers will report me to What Not To Wear and they'll take away all my band shirts and my Star Trek shirts and my Tripp pants and I'll have nothing happy to wear ;_; Heck, I don't even want them to take my boring t-shirts and my huuuuuge cargo pants. They're not very pretty, but they're comfy, and they're not covered in chains, so I can wear them to work...and there are days when looking frumpy is a worthy sacrifice in order to be comfy, even at work.

...k I'm becoming incoherent, so I guess I'll stop typing. You all have a good night/day/whatever time it happens to be when you read this.

I've also been reading about the characters of TOS and the actors who played them tonight. Yeoman Rand did not get enough love, and I don't blame Grace Lee Whitney for being bitter about being dropped from the show. I really hope she's in the next movie. Maybe in this parallel universe they won't need Kirk to be a player, and he can have some kinda thing with her.
Also I think Spock needs to have a thing with Chapel instead of Uhura. Maybe. Unlike some fangirls it often makes me mad when the subject of my affection is paired with another woman XD But Spock/Chapel would be cute, especially if Spock got better at controlling his emotions and it was the "I like you but I can't do anything about it but I still like you" kinda thing.

...I'm gonna either go to sleep or draw some fanart now. Or learn how to draw people interacting, and then draw fanart. One of those.

1. They Might Be Giants - Alt. rock

The Cap'm: This song is just awesome. I don't even know how to describe it. Kind of exhilarating. Go listen to it, you'll know what I mean.

Withered Hope: I know, I'm using up my spaces with two songs from the same album...but I love this one too ;;

I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE THIRD ONE SHOULD BE. Let's just say...Bangs or something. That's a good one. Or Rest Awhile. I love too many of their songs T_T

2. Oppenheimer - Electronic indie pop

The Blue Rose: I really like the sound of this one. It's kinda cacophonous like the rest of that album, but it sounds happy. Like...that sounds dorky, but it does.

My Son, The Astronaut: I like the chorus of this one a lot. And the whole kinda space feeling I get from it. Most of their songs have somewhat nonsensical lyrics, and this is no exception, but it's a good example of how they all fit into the title by mostly feeling right. Plus I can play it on the guitar, and it's really fun and sounds neat.

Only Goal & Winner: I was thinking about putting a different song here, but then I looked at the title of this one and remembered it gives me chills. I think that's all I need to say about it :3

3. Pink Floyd - Some kinda rock, prog maybe, I dunno

Echoes: I don't know if this song quite needed to be 22 minutes long (the weird spacey midsection doesn't quite do it for me, especially after the beautiful stuff that comes before it), but the first and last sections are really really pretty, with really neat lyrics. It's the same kind of poetry that the Beatles used later on, where it's not linear, it just describes things in a weird, cool way. Kinda trippy, but not in the "Whoa dude, that's trippy" way.

Us And Them: Very pretty, very soothing song.

4. Mike Oldfield - iTunes calls him new age; I don't know what to classify him as
I'm going to just do albums for him. Most of the good ones are just one or two continuous pieces of music.

Ommadawn: I loooove this album <3 I've loved Mike Oldfield in general since I was really tiny, and Ommadawn has always been a favorite. Really beautiful.

The Songs of Distant Earth: Didn't really get familiar with this one until high school, but when I did, it blew me away. I love how much emotion is conveyed through the music here...and reading the book while listening to it is a really cool experience.

Tubular Bells II: Another favorite from when I was a little kid. It's a really nifty piece of music. I could say more about it, but I don't really know how to describe it XD Just good ol' Mike Oldfield.

5. Michael Giacchino - Soundtracks (I don't know if he's done anything else)

Enterprising Young Men: Kinda the main theme from the Star Trek soundtrack. It's really big and epic-sounding, I love it X3

Life's Incredible Again: Montage from The Incredibles, where Bob has his new "job" and he's getting in shape and being happy again. It's happy XD

To Boldly Go/End Credits: OH MAN. Old ST theme + new ST theme = EPIC WIN. And he does it so perfectly, it's amazing. This whole soundtrack is amazing. Go buy it.

What kinda celebrity does their own website? And Facebook fan page? And MySpace fan page? Do I have good taste in celebs or what? X3

Also I really wish Funny People wasn't rated R. Adam Sandler's character looks so...not Adam Sandler, (oh no a comma!) you know? I like it when normally obnoxious actors play non-obnoxious characters (like Jim Carrey; I LOVE him when he's not being an idiot). It looks kinda cute...but I guess I get to wait until it's on TV.

Oh, one more thing while we're talking movies: I saw Up yesterday. Once again, Pixar did not disappoint. It was really surreal in kind of a children's book way, and it actually made me laugh out loud, which few movies can do. And I'm really impressed with Michael Giacchino; not many people can write the perfect score to a sci-fi action awesomeness movie and also write the perfect score to a family movie about a little old man who ties balloons to his house and flies to South America. There is a similar flavor to his scores, if you listen to them without the movie on top of them, but they're all very different too, and he really does create the perfect mood for any given scene.

...why are all the good movies coming out now? There was this huge dry spell last year but now all these good movies are happening, I don't get it. Star Trek and Harry Potter were both ready to come out last year, but they waited until this year for some reason. I can't complain about Star Trek; even though I'm dying to show it to Tom and won't get to for a long time, for me it came out right when I needed something to fill a hole in my life, but Harry Potter I don't quite get. It could've been out in time for Tom to see it before he left, and he was all excited about it, but then they changed it. Dumb heads.

This is ridiculously long, I think I'd better stop. All I was going to do was fangirl about ZQ for a few seconds XD Ah well, this is a better way to kill time. I'll try to draw something later. You all have a good day.

My mind is odd. I'm very shy around people I don't know well, and I don't talk much when I'm around said people, because I'm afraid of making a bad first impression and making them think I'm an idiot or something. Now, usually, if I end up spending more time with a person, I stop being quite so shy and quiet, and I let myself be an idiot a little bit more, because if they think I'm an idiot once they already know me and like me, that's fine, because I have friends that are stupid sometimes but I still love them. Usually I won't be my complete weird idiotic self around people unless I've known them for many many years, but sometimes there are exceptions.

However, if I really like someone, it takes even longer than usual to stop being such a clam around them (and it's not a quick process in the first place). I've been with Tom for almost 2 years now, and I would still get shy around him and be afraid to be an idiot, even though he's my boyfriend and has been for a long time, and he already knows I'm an idiot, and he still loves me. I just feel like I'm under pressure when I'm around people I like, and I feel like I need to make sure I'm not doing anything too stupid, even if I know the person I'm with knows I'm stupid but doesn't care.

Does any of that make sense? I've been either in pain or on drugs all day (though those drugs aren't horribly strong), and my hormones have definitely been weird, so I might not make sense right now. If that's the case, I apologize. I'm just still in talk-your-ear-off mode after talking to my one friend for hours and hours. He's one of the aforementioned people I'm not afraid of being an idiot with so we often end up talking until 2 a.m. or later whenever we hang out. So yeah. If you read all this, a) you're awesome and/or b) I'm sorry you don't have anything better to do than read my journal XD I'm gonna maybe go to sleep now. Maybe.

That's pretty much the biggest thing going on in both of our lives at the moment. My brain can't decide how it's handling this, so I've been fluctuating from totally fine and happy about it to crying rather pathetically, and many places in between. I guess you guys don't really need to know this, but I felt like writing it down, especially since my last journal was...happier than I feel right now. (Really, I am happy; this will be really good for both of us, it's just weird and I'm going to miss him an awful lot.)

I got a cell phone last week, after several years of bugging my dad about getting one. Dunno exactly how much good it'll do me with my boyfriend being in Germany and all, but I'm glad to have it, and it'll make the rest of my social life easier/more accessible. Plus I bought some stickers at Borders and put a mushroom on the back of it. ...yeah I'm easily amused

I've been living under a gigantic art block lately. I want to draw, I just am never able to get anything onto the paper, and if by some fluke I do draw something, it looks like crap and I just get disappointed and don't want to draw for a while. I think I need to take an art class again, or...something. I'm just kind of underwhelmed with my drawing ability, or lack thereof. If any of you know ways of fixing this, I could really use them.

Work is good. For those of you that don't know, I'm a page at the public library here. It's easy work, it pays WAY better than any of my other jobs, and everyone there is nice. I really hope I can keep this job.

One more thing. Family Guy has been kind of stupid as of late. They're reusing old jokes, and they're not even the funny ones. Peter running home with a golden ticket and then falling and hurting his knee wasn't funny, and Lois running home with a Fox news paper and then falling and hurting her boob isn't funny either. I mean, I guess I shouldn't be harping on Family Guy for having stupid humor, but sometimes it's really freaking funny, and I think they need more of the funny stupid humor rather than the pure stupidity.

This is really long now, so I'm gonna...probably not go to bed yet, but at least stop typing. Expect a shorter, less pissy entry in the near future.

Don't drink a big cup of something called a super energy drink unless you need to stay up for several hours.

I didn't really need to stay up for several hours, so I played Chrono Trigger since I had nothing else to do. It was actually pretty cool; I got to Zeal, saw it die, got the Epoch and stuff after, and explored the Dimensional Vortex (new areas ftw).

For those of you who will know what this is: Singing Mountain!

I also finally understand the cover art for the game, lol.

I ALSO copied down some of the dialogue/things written in books, because I was bored and felt like copying stuff down so I'd remember it later (because I often try to quote things and mess up the quote, and it makes me sad). So like, if you for some reason want the words to that song the fiends sing to the Magus statue, or his new Lavos-summoning chant, I have those, among other things.

Again, I say: don't drink any kind of energy drink at night. It keeps you up late (early? The sun's up now...) and melts your brain, causing you to write journals like this and copy down things from videogames into Notepad.

I just thought I'd let you all know that my body sucks.

I haven't been able to get to sleep until at least 5 a.m. these past few days/weeks/I forget how long, and today, because I dozed off for a few hours at about 10 p.m., I most likely won't be getting to sleep until well after 6 a.m.

It's a bloody good thing I don't have to be awake in the morning anymore.

On a less stupid note, Tom gave me Odin Sphere for V-Day, and it's pretty awesome. I'm almost done with Gwendolyn; she's awesome and all, but I'm excited to play the other characters XD

And now I'm gonna try to sleep so when my dad wakes up in a few minutes, he won't be all "Are you still up?" because I don't want him thinking I'm any weirder than he already knows I am.

Saw Coraline yesterday. It was pretty much awesome. I didn't really care for the addition of Wybie (I mean, Wybie? Couldn't they even think of a better name for a character that wasn't even in the book?), but overall it was a good movie. However, anyone who knows me knows I really hate it when movies made from books veer too far off, so it's probably a very good thing it's been a looong time since I read the book, otherwise it probably would've made me pretty mad XD But yeah, it was really good, and I liked it a lot, so anyone who likes good movies should go see it.

Why is there no "bored" mood here? Seems like it'd be pretty common and would probably get used a lot...

I stole it from The Simpsons...and I chose it because Elfgirl was taken, but I don't remember why I chose it, of all things XD
