So begins my first job search since senior year of high school. There's all sorts of choices ahead of me, I could return to the theater business, but to be honest I'd rather try something new. Art supply stores, EB Games, electronic stores, clothing retail, all viable choices, none all that appealing.

I'm also considering setting up a commission system, though I don't expect that will substitute for a regular paycheck any time soon.

In order to get ahead, I'm going to challenge myself to go beyond where they expect I should be in the illustration of the figure. I'm spending Saturdays from 12-4 at CCS working on figure illustration from now on...I've got about a month and a half or two months. I'm also going to see what my current illustration teacher has to say.

I'll be posting some of my Maya stuff, it's all crappy, as well as whatever figure stuff I whip up in my class.

Also, new fun project, Nintendo Land! I posted my "thumbnail" of it, so far it's the only piece in my gallery and it'll be gone very shortly.

I have a lot of choices, I think I want to change my major at school. It might not be the best course to quick graduation, and some parties might be displeased with that choice, but I don't really think animation is for me.

I prefer drawing, but it seems as if traditional animation is falling to the wind and the classes that are offered at CCS pander more towards "film making" and CG. CG, to me, is more or less an office job with a lot of artistic merit, but it's so pipelined.

I'm leaning toward switching to illustration, Fine Art is pretty much reserved for the avant-garde and I can't see myself in that capacity. Illustration seems a sound choice, so long as I can draw well, I could do a lot of things that seemed to be outsourced more and more these days, I feel it's a skill that I just want to improve and master. I'm going to discuss it with an advisory, ideally they can point me in the right direction, until then, I'll muddle along.

Nothing new to post, just haven't had the will nor do I have anything I'd like to show.

Well I made it through my first year of college, but now I have to decide if I'm going to continue at CCS or find out what else to do with my life. I like CCS a lot, but I need to go in at least like once a week extra and just work on stuff if I'm to continue, and work more at home too. I love it there, but I just have to really get more involved.

James Bond: Operation: Lighting-Ball

The movie will open with a high-speed unicycle chase between James Bond and a man who has some kind of information through Redoaks Elementary School and Playground. The scene will mostly consist of the informant performing impossible stunts with the Unicycle and Bond riding through walls to catch up with him. Upon catching him, Bond asks him politely to explain himself, and the man does. He explains that he’s involved in a multimillion dollar drug trafficking deal.

The opening titles begin, the song will be called You'll Never Forget Me and will not contain the words Lighting-Ball anywhere, nor will it contain any women.

The next major sequence occurs at MI6, when now life-support bound Dame Judi Dench reprises her role as M, and informs Bond that the chase through Redoaks was a blemish on MI6's records and that he needs to grow up. Angered, Bond leaves and breaks M's flower vase. He hops into his Ford Taurus and drives well within the speed limit home.

Upon his arrival home, he goes to bed. He gets the morning paper and finds out that 20 million dollars with of drugs are being smuggled into the USA to support terrorists. He pours some breakfast cereal and eats it for a few minutes whilst reviewing the paper’s contents. He heads back to MI6, but gets pulled over because his left tail light’s out.

At MI6, M says it’s Bond’s job to get to the bottom of this American ordeal for some reason, and Bond is chosen because word around the office is he’s pretty good at doing drugs.

Bond catches the next train ride to America and meets his sexy female assistant named Monie Penni, but not to be confused Money Penny . After some witty banter, Bond is provided his “gadgets” by Ms. Penni, which include a PSP which doubles as a disc launcher, a Sony Ericson cell phone for making calls and a Sony waterproof digital wristwatch for the use of noting the proper time, it also includes a backlight, stopwatch feature, and multiple time zones.

Bond arrives in New York where he completely intentionally meets his US liaison, Felix Leiter, played by a Hispanic/African American single mom. She explains to Bond that the organization is going to use the sale of the drugs to support an illegal mouse fighting right, which will then supply the terrorists with additional profits from bets. The two in charge of the operation happen to be Mr. and Mrs. Largo. Bond catches the next subway ride to California where he looks up the Largo manner.

Mr. Largo is an albino 110 year old with back problems and chronic urination, Mrs. Largo is 90 and happens to be rendered immobile by an iron lung. Bond has to sneak past their Brinks Home Security System to interrogate the elderly couple, then vanquishes them to an amusement part where they will never return.

Operation Lightning-Ball was a success, however, a few weeks later, Bond finds out that the terrorists still got their money, and it was all the work of his current lover, Miss Penni. Miss Penni, herself, turns out to be a trans-sexual, in a highly climatic finale, she abruptly kills herself after Bond finds out. Heart-broken, Bond returns home, shoots his Gardner in the leg and says “The name’s Bond, James Bond”.

(The intention is for it to be the third remake of Thunderball)

Supposedly, the person I chose to walk with is the most important person in my life, the animal represents my troubles and my interaction with the beast demonstrates how I deal with my problems. The size of my dream house represents my ambitions, blah blah. The water was supposed to represent my sexual desire, and how wet I get during my crossing shows how far I'll go to satisfy it. I dunno, I was thinking "water" and what kind of water I like to see, some of my fonder memories have been by or in the Great Lakes of Michigan and the only way to cross would be by boat, otherwise I'd drown.

It all seemed pretty arbitrary and silly, but I did start thinking about the most important person in my life...I really can't say that I have one, and if the question had asked me if I was walking with anyone, I'd say no.


I just finished with the first section of my animation studio at CCS, I feel a bit more accomplished but I could have put more effort into it, in fact, I could put more effort into everything I do. Although the fox may not have represented the size of my problems, I'd say my reaction to them is pretty true, I just hope they go away...but they don't, they keep building.

Another portion revealed that I am unhappy, which is true, I'm not very happy at all. I have opportunities, I'm in a pretty nice spot, but I'm just unhappy, and I've been that way my entire life and I don't know if I ever will be happy.

Anyway, I have a lot of work to do in my stupid Drawing II class at Wayne State, my interest in the class has always been pretty low as it's simply what I did in Drawing I, it's even in the same room. The whole class is about capturing details, yet in animation, the emphasis is on the opposite. It's just annoying. In design class, I feel the same way, we're just doing construction projects in 3D, they're so irrelevant and boring.

Well maybe the animation half of my animation studio will inspire me to pick up the slack I've been slacking...

Anyway, it's late and I'm gonna hit the hay...

Okay, so in an effort to suppress any rising depression and get back on the "A" train, I'm going to evaluate my current status as it related to each one of my resolutions:


My New Years Resolutions 2007

1. Give it my all in school

Why haven't I?

To put it simply I'm a terrible procrastinator and I really spend my time quite poorly.

How to fix it?

I think I just have to do what I need to do immediately and stop putting it off for later. I just need to remember that I DON'T have all the time in the world.

2. Find a girlfriend

Why haven't I?

Uhhhhhh...I haven't met the right girl yet?

How do I fix it?

Beats the hell out of me.

3. Find a better job

I'm crossing this one off the list, until I become in need of more money the job I have now is fine.

4. Be more independent and assertive

I've actually been doing pretty well with this!

5. Develop some kind of work out plan and stick with it

Why haven't I?

I guess every time I make a plan, I never stick with it. It all ties back to that not doing it now issue.

How can I fix it?

Well, just do it now, make it tomorrow at work and start tomorrow night!

6. Cut back on video games and WoW to 2 hours a day or 14 hours a week

I haven't touched WoW in a while, almost two weeks, other than that I pick up the Wii occasionally but I don't play for long, so I'm doing well there.

I'd like to have some help making The Last Link a reality. I find myself incapable of creating the same kind of creative spark with the project and am looking for someone, or some people who'd be interested in working on a fairly large scale Zelda fan project.

Since it's a non-profit fan project I'm not holding super high standards, and I have a few positions in mind. These positions are meant to be broad, if you have artistic talent but also feel you're a pretty creative person as far as storytelling goes, feel free to tell me. In my experience with making the game, I found that being overly ambitious and inflexible caused the downfall. For the manga, I'm looking for a smaller team, it may only consist of two or three more people if I can find that many.

Here are the current positions, and requirements:

For the position of co-writer:

1. Basic working knowledge of the Zelda franchise.

For obvious reasons, it's a Zelda story, so you should know about Zelda as a series. You don't have to be able to name the sages from Ocarina of Time in the order you meet them, but I expect you know the general plot of the key games.

2. You're literate beyond the sixth grade level

This one is imperative, you should be able to have an understanding of how to write characters, events and have some descriptive ability. I'm not asking for Shakespeare, I'm just asking you know how to write

3. Understand this isn't something you'll be writing from the ground up.

Trust me, the story as a whole is largely incomplete and much of it may be asking for a rewrite, but this isn't something that we're going to spend a lot of time brainstorming and creating something from the ground up. The key characters have distinct personalities, the first act is ready to go(but it needs tweaking), and the overall concept is set--but, heed my earlier statement, 85% of the story is unfinished/foggy On the plus side, much of the leg work is done so we can get into the good stuff.

4. Have some spare time

I'm busy too, and this isn't something that's going to get done in a few months, but if you can't keep up with the team, don't apply.

Art Positions

To be honest, I dunno what I'm going to do as far as artists go, I'm not against drawing the whole thing myself, but if I can find someone who can draw well and is willing to do an issue on the occasion then I might go with that. You can apply for one posistion or multiple positions.

Here's the jobs I might need help with:

Inking/Toning: I think that's how we're going to handle the manga, if you have any experience with digitally inking/toning that's your only requirement.

Coloring: Most likely we'll only be doing covers with color, certain pages of the manga itself, and official artwork and character illustrations.

Illustration: This would cover anything from actually illustrating the manga to doing conceptual work.

I ask that you at least know what you're going, if you've yet to master the stick figure, save yourself the trouble and don't apply.

Well the Burning Crusade came out and I spent WAAAAY too much time playing it, as a result I started falling behind in school, and when I started falling behind I fell more behind because I didn't want to go to school without work. I also got a touch of the stomach virus my mom had, it didn't really phase me, but I had problems digesting, we won't get into that though. AND its been freezing balls, so sometimes I just feel like staying in bed a bit longer...

BUT things are looking up! I haven't played WoW all week and I'm doing more of what I should be doing, which is school work.

I still have time, time enough to repair whatever damage I've done, I think...

Anyway, TLL is progressing slowly, I did a few looooooooose pages the other night just to give me an idea of how many pages it'll take to get the issue done. I'll be posting more and moving stuff to scraps over time.

Personal

Well my breaks been something of a whirlwind; I faced rejection in the present and nearly broke down in the midst of my meandering through the past. AND I bought a PS2...but it's all good because I get to do the one thing I've wanted to do since I was little, be an animator!

Yes,, back in June of 2006 I wrote about my dismay of my inability to go to the College for Creative Studies due to financial reasons. However, the road of life takes some odd twists and now I have the means to go to the school without having to worry about repaying loans! However, my grades at Wayne were somewhat lacking, mainly because I wasn't used to the whole idea of actually working hard and getting up and going down to Detroit on a daily basis. That said, I'm half a year older now and half a year wiser. I'm not taking classes that'll toss me up in morning rush hour, which will suck a whole lot more now that the Lodge is being closed(for those of you non-Michigan people, the Lodge is one of the highways connecting the suburbs of Oakland County of the seedy recesses of Detroit).

That said, I'm still only taking two classes there, or six credits. I'm taking two animation studios which should teach me what traditional animation entails. I'm also taking a stupid foundation class in the form of Design 2, which involves the wonderful world of color.

Meanwhile, to make sure I'm still on my Mom's insurance, I'm taking two classes at Wayne. Drawing 2 and Intro To Film. These may very well be my last two classes there...oh well, I won't miss it. CCS is extremely small, intimate, and elite! There's nothing better than feeling elitist.

Granted, it's also going to be tough, I'm going to kiss goodbye the things I've grown very attached to that just eat up time and I'll be limiting the time I play video games(can't detach myself from a field I might go into). As for work, well I'm also gonna work less, and so much the better. Not that I have a hard job shoveling popcorn, but I'm getting sick of it.

Well New Years is good for two things: making a person feel extremely depressed or making a person extremely ambitious to improve whatever state he is in. Well, let's just say I felt both this New Year. After a pretty mediocre round through my first semester of college, a failing social life, and a lack of any great accomplishment, I've decided that I may as well do the thing I have a feeling won't help me, but I'm doing it anyway. I've made six resolutions which I'm going to try to keep track of and one long-term goal! So here they are!

My New Years Resolutions 2007

1. Give it my all in school
2. Find a girlfriend
3. Find a better job
4. Be more independent and assertive
5. Develop some kind of work out plan and stick with it
6. Cut back on video games and WoW to 2 hours a day or 14 hours a week

That last one, I don't think will last a week.

Now my long-term goal is career related:

THE GOAL: I want to graduate from CCS's program in animation, and use the skills I've learned to create entertainment, be it cartoons or video games.

THE STEPS: Sleep well, do projects in a timely fashion, and get to class on time.

Anyway, I'll post these somewhere so I won't forget them and hopefully I'll be a happier human being by this time next year.

What can I say about Dan?

Well when I figure out something meaningful I'll update this, but for the meantime I'll say that one of his major talents is photography, he has a lot of excellent natural photos and has captured moments of "failure" with a dose of humor in the form of an origami snail failing to perform certain tasks. Also, check out his writing, it's got his voice behind it and says a lot about him as a person.

Abstract

Well it's been a while since my last update, and a lot has happened. The most exciting thing is that I have a Wii as well as Twilight Princess, which I just completed about a day ago. The game's certainly bumped up my Zelda fandom so I've been drawing a lot of Zelda stuff, I've got a nice spoiler piece in the works from the final battle cause it was too cool for school. Additionally, I seem to have been doing a lot of The Last Link stuff, but I doubt I'll ever take it anywhere.

I blame this one for me starting new pieces. Anyway, didn't turn out quite as I had hoped, and I'm taking a different approach to Fax as well. These next few are temporary Deviantions:

It's Link and he's in what would be his starting clothes, kinda furry I guess. I need to get a better grasp on the back of his hair in a better pony tail.

Lady Zelda

Her hair's a bit too much like Link's, in the front, I think. Though the bun back is something different! I wanted to take a different approach with her, also the half tabard on her skirt is in vein of the OoT/Twilight Princess ones, but matches the logo of The Last Link. She also gets a change of clothes later on(questing in a dress is kinda taxing I'd imagine).

Fax

I think this Fax is a bit easier for me to draw than the colored one, and I kinda like the hair flip a bit more.

Okay, so I was accepted to Collge for Creative Studies last semester with a partial scholarship, but I didn't exactly have the funds to attend, so I'm down at Wayne State University this semester. Although, now the funds to go there have suddenly become avalible from extremely surprising source. Suffice it to say, I'm excited but I'm also leery because I could be doing better at Wanye, I'm just not taking college seriously enough yet and I'm worried that it might serve as a sign that I shouldn't go to CCS. I'm trying to catch up but it's not easy, especially now that my WoW addiction is coming back into swing...I'm trying to budget my time more effectively, but time is just fleeting.

Otherwise, I'm doing pretty well, work was busy over the weekend and I'm really starting to long for a change of career, I want to give tech support at shot or something, I think I might be moving on from the theater after this summer, two years at that kind of job is more than ample.

I have a Wii reservation at my local EB. I can't believe it's less than a month away! I'm just too excited.

My Mom got The Little Mermaid collectors edition DVD, that was one of my favorites when I was young and watching it again was very strange, it's really a movie that could bridge that age gap. I also watched the commentary/special features and saw the cool digital version of the ride concept they scrapped. I've always been into theme park design.

Other than that, I'm still single and friendless at Wayne. I find it hard to meet people there, for two reasons. The first is I commute, so it's tough to really get to know anybody except between classes or during class, but that time's rare. The second reason is that it's really diverse down there, my high school was basically all white so it's kinda tough to relate to some of the people. I guess that goes hand-in-hand with the old birds of a feather theroy.

I'm just kinda blah these days, and I suspect I shall remain there until something changes.

Behold the merits of having a brand new Debit Card. I am now a deviantArt subscriber.

I took a trip to Florda with a few of my friends in late July. It was fun, although I spent $900 getting my car repaired so it wouldn't break down during the journey. I haven't drawn too much, or too much I can post here. I'll make some flashy journal stuff in the meantime, if I can stave off my WoW addiction for more than a few moments...

I saw Superman and Pirates II, both were exciting event movies, Superman being my favorite event movie for the summer thus far. I bought a new video card so I can run WoW in full detial and Oblivion on High; the elusive Ultra High mode would require some more RAM...or a better video card, IS 512 MEGS NOT ENOUGH!? I've also purchused the first half of Gundam Wing on DVD as well as Star Trek II: The Wrath of Kahn.

Eagerly waiting for more Wii/Zelda news and trying to come up with something new, I'm sure I'll have something soon.

I'm feeling plenary right now, there's not too much else I desire, besides maybe a girlfriend. I'll probabily meet someone in college. I'll be glad to start anew, it seems easier to meet people when you don't have any social stigma or "legacy" that's been on your back since 3rd grade.

They cut Chrono Cross and Chrono Trigger as well as Aerith's Theme to make way for Shadow of the Colossus which was really boring, also Battlefield 1942 and Morrowind felt needlessly tacked on. Metal Gear, Liberi Fatali, Shenmue, Sonic, Mario, World of Warcraft, Halo, Zelda and One Winged Angel were all excellent(although the players seem pretty tired when Zelda and One Winged Angel game along. I also got some swag; a program, a T-Shirt, which may currently be in the process of being signed by one of the special guests, and the More Friends CD.

I have one new piece of lousy The Last Link art, enjoy it. I moved many a deviation into the scrap bin, because they just suck. I'm working on a little Family Guy joke, wherein Peter kills Kenny, from South Park. Other than that, I'm in sort of a creative stands till, which sucks but I can't do jack about it. If you have any suggestions, please tell me.

I'm going to Wayne State University in the heart of Detroit Tuesday for an orientation. I have to wake up at freaking 6:00 in the morning to get there at 8:30. I've fallen asleep after 5:00 AM some days this summer, so it's going to suck. While I'm at Wayne for a semester or two, I'm going to take a curriculum that consists almosts exclusvely in art so I can transfer to College for Creative Studies without putting me into a pit of debt.

Other than that, life is moving along, hopefully after I get this Wayne State thing taken care of, I can get back to my virtually care-free summer.

Well, it sounds like something he’d say. Anyway, tomorrow is my last day of school, with the exception of graduation practice on Friday and the actual commencement itself on Sunday, that’s the last time I have to go to the building(though I’ll drop by from time to time to visit my art teacher and my computer tech teacher). This last year was a whirlwind, in all honesty. Something about getting a job, a car, and a greater perspective on life just speeds things up to the point where I feel as if time is slipping through my fingers.

But that’s life and this is deviantArt. I’ve been doing through my MS Paint phase and I have to say it’s probably the worst program ever made and I have a feeling that Windows Vista will get the exact same version. I did a flash piece as well for multimedia, but as a friend of mine so eloquently put, I’d rather not air my dirty laundry around in public.

Blurry? I just visted CCS(College for Creative Studies) in Detroit to see how my prospects are for getting in. They said my portfolio is strong enough, but the cost of the deal is my main advisary. It's over $26k a year to go there, I have college paid for at any four year public University in the State of Michigan, but once I cash it out, its worth drops to about 6,700 a year. Even if I get a $6k shcolarship for each year, that's still not gonna cut it, my alternatives are to go to public for a lot of the credits then try to transfer over. Where there's a will, there's a way I guess.

Which reminds me, I'm going to visit an advertizing studio this Wednesday. I've got a connection there, an unsual one, but it's a good connection so maybe I can go for some sort of job there in the summer, maybe.

So that's the shing-dig for today, just scoping out colleges and figuring out ways to make stuff happen, my break is drawing to a close before it really even started. I've got a new PC; HP Pavillion with an AMD Athlon 64 x2 4200+ processor, a gig of ram and a 19-inch flat pannel display as well as the entire Outlaw Star series on DVD for $40(and Star Trek: First Contact Collectors edition for $10!).

I got a hold of a digital camera, it's kinda junky(1.3 Mega Pixels) but it's free. So, I'll be sure to photograph some of my portfolio pieces and put them in my gallery. Otherwise, I haven't had much time to do anything else, besides the stuff you see in my scaps.

Well I haven't been posting much of anything because my computer is only half living at this point. I've got the RAM and clockspeed but no video card due to over-heating issues. I plan to buy a new one in the coming weeks(the reason I already don't have one is because I'm unsure of exactly what to get) although I do know I want a desktop.

As for my current art life, I'm focusing on large-scale lose paintings of ancient mythological places and ideas with a modern twist at art class in school. I'll post some of the sketchwork when I get some free time. In my art class at our locale art centre, I had to draw a nude, middle aged woman(as a teen, it's not the most attractive thing in the world) but it is a good experience for drawing I will admit, but we're working main in charcoal, which I'm not a big fan of so most of my studies turn out rather impercise. Other than that, I've been doing a lot of work in photoshop in both my Multimedia and Web Design II class, and even I, a veteran of Photoshop for some three years almost, have learned a lot.

I've also been working a lot and I was so busy last week I was ready to kill myself. I had to do something every day of the week. Though I made some nice money and was pretty active so it's all good. As far as I know I have the next two days to myself as well, as far as the weekend goes...I dunno.

In terms of art. I got a new sketch book to dedicate soley to my class art as my teacher isn't exactly an advocate of anime. So I'm just going to use my cheap one for personal purposes.
