My plans are to stick to the conventions unless I get offered to illustrate Detective Comics I have no real desire to do anything else publishing wise execept Detective. I do like working the conventions in artist alley and I like the freedom to do whatever I want artistically and if I can score a little scratch doing it great!
I don't know when I'll be posting any new art work hopefully in a few months. I have been drawing everyday and practicing inking almost everyday. I think I missed a couple of days here and there in last few months. I have been reading some books on architechture and detective oriented stuff. So I have some ideas for Batman and anything hardboiled crime related. That is going to be my theme at conventions, hardboiled crime. In addition to the Batman Univ I also plan to do some Spirit and Dick Tracy stuff and maybe some Black Mask inspired art as well. I don't plan to post most of the stuff I'll do for conventions just maybe one or two pieces.

I thought I would post my comments about my latest deviation here. I was almost done drawing this one yesterday when I came across this photo: [link]

I didn't use it as a reference so much as inspiration. I think it's a tasteful, cute photo and the shift of the face is what I really used more than anything. Plus it's <<Ma meilleur actrice>>

The drawing is another pinup I plan to sell as a print in Texas next month. If you are wondering about the heart and the words I've written on it you need to check out the RIP series right now with the Bat-books. Specifically Detective. So here is a drawing of who I think will soon be departed from the DCU.
I thought I would relegate my comments on my recent deviations to a journal entry. Nobody reads these things anyway right?
The first two were ink practices over the respective artists. I like John Busecma's story telling and just the characterization of his drawings. In this one the cat in the drunken stupor was my favorite to ink. The second one was by Randy Green. I liked the simplicity and design to this page. Skottie Young's style reminds me of Randy's. I am referring to the pencils. In the pencil stage Randy's style is very angular and exact, however I tried to make the square round so to speak. In both drawings I wanted to experiment with using a crayon to obtain different effects. I now have a good idea how I will incorporate this in future drawings.

The last one is completely original moi. This will be a print I plan to sell in Texas at the Wizard Con. As a matter of fact it will be part of a 20+ pin-up set I plan to sell as prints. I am going to redraw all my Australia X-Men with some improvements i.e. hands and hair. After I'm done warming up with the pinups then it's onto drawing/inking the little samples stories involving the Batman Univ. Hopefully after 20+ pin-ups I'll be dialed in, tuned up and ready to go!

No I haven't stopped drawing or moved onto something else. Recently I started a temp job that is full time. However it hasn't stopped the demon that drives my creativity. I've been practicing some simple things, namely brush control, drawing hands and hair and recently I've been practicing my lettering technique. I hope to make the Texas Con this November. I have the hotel room secured all I need now is the time and funds. I've really been focusing on how I would handle drawing Bruce Wayne and Alfred at the moment. I've been practicing their facial features and getting a good feel for who they are. Next I plan to do the same with Commissioner Gordon and the Penguin. I've got a somewhat grasp on the Joker however there are somethings I still plan to work out with that one. Batgirl is also on my list, both in and out of costume. Gotham is also something I've been working on too. For the Texas Con I would like to go with some re-draws and new Batman related pieces that I plan to make as prints and sell. If I'm able to go I plan to redraw my X-Men drawings on Canson paper and use my improved inking skills to make some great pieces that will hopefully sell.
Well back to the drawing board.
No rest for the wicked...

<img src="http://e.deviantart.com/emoticons/d/devil.gif" width="15" height="18" alt=">:)" title=">:) (Devil)" />

I bought a bottle of Night Train as a memento from my past. So I thought I would describe my ride on the Night Train with a pic! I suggest right clicking this [link] and opening it another window so you can follow along...

At the red mark is where my trip used to begin. At this point I'm enjoying the sweet citric taste of the wine, things are fine it tastes nice

When I would reach the magenta point I would start to get introspective and contemplative about the universe and my place in it. I'm getting tipsy here...

By the time I got to the purple mark I would be working on a PhD in Philosophy. At this point I would began to really get deep...

And when I would reach my destination at the blue stop I would have my arm around the toilet giving back to nature. And once I gave till I couldn't give no more the dry heaves would start and I wasn't having fun at this point. No by the time I would get to blue was a time when I really needed a friend

I used to start my ride at around 8-9PM and be done at around 12AM-1AM or so. That was caaarrrrrraaaazzzyyy! I probably should have taken it easy and maybe started at around 5PM and finished at 2AM. What can I say, I was young and naive. I never want to start drinking again! I just shake my head and chuckle when I look at this bottle of this beautiful reddish, cheap wine with the gorgeous label. Ahhhh fond memories. And that's where they'll stay...

Choo Choo, baby!

Recently I read an article about plans to build a magnetic train that could reach speeds of up to 300 MPH. It is planned as a route between Anaheim, CA and Las Vegas, NV. I think this should be considered as an option for all intercontinental travel within the US. Now how this ties into world problems. In most developing countries there is a serious problem of no running water or electricity. My solution for the lack of electricity would be to look to experiments conducted by Nikola Tesla that drew electric current from the ionosphere. One problem with this was that it could cause airplanes to crash. To remedy this problem if air travel was only limited to over seas travel and travel was conducted within an continent by ground, such as the electric magnetic train this could provide a means for these developing countries to use ionosphere electricity without the problem of air traffic disasters. If the world is going to send billions of dollars to these countries I think someone needs to develop a master plan to efficiently utilize these financial resources and break the terrible cycle of pouring money into programs that are well intended but really do not address the bigger issues faced by developing countries.

Thanks for reading...

I'm getting excited about next month. I'm drawing these sample pages for DC. But I'm trying to keep my expectations real. While getting a chance to illustrate Detective Comics even for one issue would be RAD! I would really like to find an independent with some readership, just to get the exposure. I'm having fun drawing Batman so there's no loss there. I'm also looking forward to drawing under the pressure of a convention. I've got a knack for tuning things out around me, so I think I should have no problem. As far as these pages go I'm starting to get comfortable with the shadowing. The scene for these pages is at night so there is a lot of dark moody atmosphere. I would really like to work on the rain technique I used in my comic book I drew. I think if I could improve that the rain element would really set the mood for a good crime story.

Ten years ago today my grandfather died. I would say I was somewhat close to him. We talked about a lot of things. I was 22 when it happened and I had just moved back to the Midwest. It hit me pretty hard. The last time I saw him alive was the weekend before it happened. May 15th, 1998 was on a Friday. It really bothered me for a long time. I had planned to call the day before it happened. I didn’t have anything important to say. He was here one day and gone the next. No explanation as to why. I’ve known people who’ve died before. When I was a kid there were these two kids I knew that drowned, one trying to save the other. I had an Uncle that I only have a few memories of and one of my other grandparents had passed prior to this. But the thing that really bothered me about my Grandfather’s death was his was a suicide. Here one day gone the next.

This week has been a real learning lesson for me.

Lesson #1
I learned just how hard it is to draw when your mind is zipping all over the place. I find out that I failed one of my classes. One class has kept me from getting my degree. I was fighting depression and frustration at the same time yesterday. I couldn't focus and I wasn't getting the anatomy on something I was drawing yesterday while in this state of mind. Today after I regained my mental stability I was able to correct the anatomy problem and it was easy as a piece of cake. Lesson learned: when your mind can't focus don't expect the simple things to be easy.

Lesson #2
Five days a week as part of my regular exercise routine I run 3 miles in the morning. Usually I eat a bag a spinach a day however I haven't been able to afford it lately. This week I bought four bags and have been eating one bag a day. Today as part of my routine I ran my 3 miles, well in addition to this I also walked about 8 miles. Now in case you're wondering why I walked 8 miles, it's simple I don't have a car and I had some errands that required it. Now onto what I learned, I learned just how important that bag of spinach a day is. I come home eat dinner and now I'm finishing up one of my sample pages. And I'm not really tired! I eat the bag of spinach because what I've learned from the Dept. of Ag's website. It's a good place to learn what you should eat specific to you. It takes into account your body type age etc. I can't wait till I can afford to make strawberry smoothies in my Jack LaLane Juicer on a daily basis

I just finished the first issue in a self-published comic that I'm working on. I did the penciling, lettering and inking. I gotta say that I like all three stages of the process. I like the control that the penciling gives me, I like the artistic expression of the lettering and I like inking because it brings the pencils to a new level. Now onto the second issue. I plan to combine both issues into a graphic novel format. It seems this is the best option for the project. Hopefully I'll have issue two done by mid March.
