As some of you may know, there isn't a forum on DA to discuss religious topics. Many deviants would like the DA admins to establish a religion forum so that political and religious topics can each have their own space.

If you are interested in having a group petition for a religion forum on DA posted in the club journal, please comment on this entry or send me a note with your ideas.

From sunset on Monday to sunset on Tuesday, our people will solemnly mark Tisha B'Av — the anniversary of the destruction of the First Temple and also, our tradition tells us, the destruction of the Second Temple. Tisha B'Av is also the anniversary of the expulsion of the Jews in Spain in 1492, and many other tragedies in the history of our people fell on or near this day.

"The ways of Zion do mourn, because none come to the solemn assembly; all her gates are desolate, her priests sigh; her virgins are afflicted, and she herself is in bitterness." Lamentations 1:4

While Tisha B'Av is a solemn holy day, I hope that by remembering the trials suffered by our ancestors in ages past we will unite to bring the world closer to wholeness in this day and all the days to come.
Deuteronomy 25: 17-19
“Remember what Amalek did to you on the way as you came out of Egypt, how he attacked you on the way when you were faint and weary, and cut off your tail, those who were lagging behind you, and he did not fear God. Therefore when the Lord your God has given you rest from all your enemies around you, in the land that the Lord your God is giving you for an inheritance to possess, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven; you shall not forget."

Shalom everyone!
So far we've gotten the gallery back on track. Many thanks to *alizap and *hbrodsly for giving us permission to display their works here.

We have two new members:
~littlegeek42
~LilyDreams

If you or someone you know is interested in renewing his/her membership or becoming a new member, please send a note to the club or to my home account, ~helen-namroque.

Once we've gotten a more substantial members list, I'll be drafting our ground rules and mission statement.

We also have a new affiliate, ~deviants4darfur; they are a new group seeking to spread awareness of the current genocide in Sudan.

Shalom everyone,
The DeviantART Jewish Community Center is going to be starting back up again. In order to keep the JCC active, we need your input and support!

Our current priorities are setting up a members' list and updating the gallery. If you would like to re-join the JCC and/or know someone who's Jewish who would be interested in joining, please send a note to or my home account, .

Please keep in mind that the JCC will keep its artistic and communal focus on religious Judaism rather than cultural/ethnic Judaism.

Have a good week,
Allison
