                <description><![CDATA[ SWOT Analysis (Strength, Weakness, Opportunity/ Potential, Threat)<br /><br />Strengths & USP (Unique Selling Proposition/Point):<br /><br />1. Storage 8GB memory and High Speed USB<br /><br />2. 4 Band EDGE GSM phone<br /><br />3. Tap n Go TM: <br />a) Minimo can pay for small purchases at convenience stores, public transporatation, Visa or MasterCard purchases.<br />b)Use Minimo TM to access your office building, login to your computer.<br /><br />Weaknesses:<br /><br />1. No 3G<br />2. No sound recorder<br />3. 2.0 mega pixels<br /><br />According to my research at Sony Ericsson's mobile shop, market now is running for 3.5G and 5 megapixels. But Minimo has it own reasons:<br /><br />1. The mobile device market (and mobile phone market) is overload with new technology, yet consumer are not rushing to adopt these new technologies because:<br />a) They want simpler product/ services, not the increasingly complicated "smartphones" which are developed by tech oriented companies.<br />b) They want cheaper services or more services or more services for the same price. They do not want to pay more for anything. Most middle class consumers are paying too much already for mobile services (mostly voice and SMS) and will only consider new products if they are free or cheaper that existing services.<br /><br />2. By comparison, 3G has been a commercial failure because it is complicated, costly (expensive handsets and higher service costs) and offer limited added value (nobody will use video calls while walking, driving or in the train, web browsing is still unattractive on a small screen watching TV on a phone has limited appeal).<br /><br />3. Most of these new features come with a price increase or additional usage costs which make them even more unlikely to succeed in a marketplace where consumer already feel they are paying too much.<br /><br />CelDesign focus is to use existing technologies (EDGE and/or 3G networks, WiFi, NFC, multimedia) and provide unique new service integration delivering free or low cost services to consumers, together with service  providers.<br /><br />Opportunity/ Potential:<br /> <br /><br />Threats:<br /><br />1. The reason of the meeting is to make myself clear about the company, the product and the project.<br /><br />The CelDesign is introducing three consumer mobile phones models which are M1, M2 and M3.                 <description><![CDATA[ On the first review of Research Major 2 Project, I was assessed by three evaluators for the first review of Research Major 2 Project. Their comments assisted me in improvising the project. <br /><br />My first evaluator told me that my problem statement was not persuasive and she was not happy that I picked Sony Ericsson as my client. <br /><br />The second evaluator also thought that Sony Ericsson was not an ideal client for the project as the company is already well established. In fact, they have been ranked among the top 10 mobile phone producers in the global and have advertising company which is Saatchi & Saatchi. They can solve their own problem by themselves. He said that I should choose client which has problems and weak, so that my design will helps the company to move further. He suggested me to change my client.  <br /><br />Evaluator 3 suggested me to change my client too. If I want to go on with Sony Ericsson, my design must better than their design, if not you will have a big problem. "Go to Minimo product. Create the design solution. Do it as soon as possible"<br /><br />It's hard for me to change the client because the project dateline is nearer and I had done a lot of research on Sony Ericsson Z555i product. Then, I started thinking and thinking... If one evaluator suggested me to choose different client, i no need to do that because 1:3. The problem is 3 evaluators suggested me to change for different client.                 <description><![CDATA[ Problem Statements, Project Objectives & Creative Solutions<br /><br />Problem Statements<br />                                                                                                                             <br />1. Even though Sony Ericsson sounds like the most popular mobile phone company, it is actually the second most popular and profitable phone maker behind Nokia.<br /><br />2. Nokia Prism series have a same design concept with Sony Ericsson Z555i which is diamond shaped design but Z555i's outlook design is too simple and old feshion compares to Nokia's Prism series.<br /><br />3. Sometimes, Sony Ericsson has lack of promotion for some its mobile phone. For example not many of us know that Z558i has the convenience of writing messages with touch screen handwriting recognition. The problem is its advertising pamphlet just showing the Z558i's outlook design but there's no touchscreen pen besides the phone. This will affect viewer's attention.   I'm the user of Z558i and I've founded that Z558i's touch screen handwriting recognition is an interesting feature. We're not only can write the ABC capital letters and 123 numbers, but we also can write chinese letters. This is good because we can learn how to write letters in Chinese.<br /><a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TDubA9yxdRg">[link]</a><br /><br />4. Because lack of promotion, mobile phone's accessories shops do not sell a casing for Z558i. They just sell for Z550i. Even though the shape is look alike, its front casing just not fit at all and after using the casing in several days without dropping it, the cracks suddenly appears at the front of the casing. Hopefully, Sony Ericsson will provide a mobile phone casing for each of their mobile phone series.<br />                     <br />5. Although Z555i is an upcoming model for the year of 2008, it has only 1.3 megapixel and no 3G. Now the hand phone market is running for 5 mega pixels and 3.5G.<br /><br />                                                                                                                             <br />Project Objectives<br />                                                                                                                             <br />1. To bring up Sony Ericsson to the top of the mobile phone ranking and make sure that this company will achieve their aims to move up rankings in 2008.<br /><br />2. It has "Gesture Control" which means that it has an interaction without touching. Simply, by waving your hand over the Z555i can mute an incoming call or snooze the alarm. Sony Ericsson promises that "it works like magic!"<br />   <br />2. It has new style-conscious diamond design and interface design features that are very different than any previous Sony Ericsson's mobile phone.<br /><br />3. Everchanging themes to suit the season. The themes will change automatically every season.<br /><br />4. Z555i is complete with essential features, such as:<br /><br />    - Camera: <br />      1.3 megapixel,  4x digital zoom and picture blogging (a function that lets you take a <br />      picture and send it to a live blog).<br /><br />    - Entertainment:<br />      3D games and Java (add extra aplications and games to your phone)<br /><br />    - Communication:<br />      Polyphonic ringtones, speaker phone and Vibrating Alert.<br /><br />    - Music:<br />      Bluetooth Stereo A2DP (music from phone to headset over a wireless connection), <br />      Media Player and Play Now.<br /><br />    - Connectivity:<br />      Bluetooth technology, Modem, USB Mass storage and USB support.<br /><br />    - Design:<br />      Navigation key, picture wallpaper and wallpaper animation<br /><br />    - Internet:<br />      WAP 2.0 (a mobile internet standard enabling you to access specially designed <br />      internet sites WAP 2.0 supports colour and interactive lists)<br /><br />    - Messaging:<br />      MMS (Multimedia Messaging), sound recorder, SMS (text messaging)<br /><br />    - Organiser:<br />      Alarm clock, calculator, calendar, notes, phonebook, stopwatch, tasks (list of things to <br />      do) and timer. The Z555i is tri band (GSM 850/1800/1900) and it supports EDGE <br />      networks.<br /><br />5. The Z555i's has outside display which shows you who is calling even without opening the clamshell. When it's in idle mode, the outside display remains discretely invisible.<br /><br />                                                                                                                            <br />Weaknesses:<br /><br />1. The Sony Ericsson Z555i is a simple and old fashion phone.<br /><br />2. It has camera with 1.3 megapixels.Most phones equipped with a camera nowadays have 2.0 megapixels or more.<br /><br />3. Small screen which is 176 x 220 pixel, 262 144 color TFT.<br /><br />4. No 3G<br /><br />Actually, all the weaknesses are not a bad specifications, but it does position the Z555i in the lower end of the midrange market. According to my research at Sony Ericsson's mobile shop, market now is running for 3.5G and megapixels.<br /><br />                                                                                                                  <br />Opportunity/ Potential:<br /><br />Sony Ericsson Z555i has its own unique features and design-style but if Sony Ericsson try to remedy all the weaknesses with creative and innovative ideas with adding up more interesting features, i'm sure that Z555i will get market and give Sony Ericsson company a huge amount of money.<br /><br />                                                                                                                             <br />Threats:<br /><br />Nokia is a great competitor to Sony Ericsson.<br /><br />1. Today, Sony Ericsson is the second most profitable phone maker behind Nokia and has achieved this status because of its growth in high end handset market.<br /><br />2. In 2007, Sony Ericsson had surpassed Nokia to become the most profitable mobile phone maker in terms of net profit rate, and behind Nokia in gross profit. It had been achieved by her marketshare growth in high end handset market. <br /><br />3. Sony Ericsson Z555i's has the same concept design with Nokia's Prism series which is diamond-shape design concept. <br /><br />4. Nokia's prism series outlook design is more attractive as compared to Sony Ericsson Z555i.<br /><br /> ]]></description>

                <description><![CDATA[ I choose Sony Ericsson as my client for my Research Major 2 project because to me this company is unique. As compared to other mobile phone companies such as Alcatel, Apple, Ben Q, Ben Q-Siemens, BlackBerry, Casio, FIC, Haier, Helio, Hitachi, HP, HTC, Kyocera, LG, Motorola, M.Mobile, NEC, Neonode, Nokia, NTT Docomo, Palm, Panasonic, Pantech, Philips, Sagem, Samsung, Sanyo, Sharp, Spyker, Toshiba and etc, Sony Ericsson is a successful joint venture company (Sony Corporation, Japanese consumer electronics company and Ericsson, the Swedish telecommunications company). It established in 2001. The stated reason for this joint venture is to combine SonyÂs consumer electronics expertise with EricssonÂs technological leadership in the communication sector.
