somebody found this and e-mailed it to all my managers this morning and they showed it to me. haha! I love it.

I was actually pretty surprised by how much I enjoyed the whole American Idol Experience, even just as a guest watching the show the first couple of times. I thought there was no way they would be able to find enough decent singers every day to fill many shows, but everybody was pretty good. It's not very repeatable, though, because every show seems to be pretty much the exact same. however BEING in it was like the funnest thing ever.

Here's the whole costume as well as the whole group! YEAH THAT'S RIGHT WE HAD A WILBUR TOO! WE SURE DID!!!! that's my friend patrick and he was just FAR too perfect for the costume. i was trying to jump him all night.

freakin' JOHN LASSETER was on the Great Movie Ride yesterday. Who was his tour guide? NOT ME, that's for sure. Oh no, of course it was only one of my ARCH ENEMIES. He came on the ride along with some other really super important people, like the president of the Studios and the guy who originally designed GMR, and they were treated to twenty-two minutes of the most horrifically obnoxious voice ever blaring in their ears.

Oh, oh, and you know what else? IF they had decided they wanted to ride again, and see it with a bandit instead of a gangster, like my manager said they might be doing... THEN they would have been on my show. But of course they were far too traumatized by their first experience to do THAT. They told our manager thank you and left, as I stood there, eight feet away, clutching my rotation, whimpering pitifully, and watching them walk away.

I am pretty sure this is what would have happened if they had decided to ride a bandit show:

Important Guys: "Wow, that was really great! I'm so glad we rode again! Let's go talk to the tour guide!"
Me: "Well, hello, everyone! I am a perfectly well-behaved, calm cast member who is not a creepy fangirl who begged to take this show at all! It sure is nice to meet you!"
John Lasseter: "Nice to meet you too. Say, you sure do look like somebody who would make a good animator! You know, I happen to do a little bit of that myself."
Me: "Really? How fascinating! As a matter of fact, I would LOVE to be an animator someday."
John: "Great! You want a job?"

I just wanted to say that I'm sorry I've been such a terrible terrible deviantartistperson for so long. I never post anymore, and I never comment on anything, and I feel like I'm doing good when I go through and clear out a bunch of old deviations at a time. (at the moment I have 1,061 in my inbox. it's a process.)

I was just randomly reading through all my old journals on a whim, and I didn't even realize just HOW involved here I used to be. And I miss it. I miss all of you!

Yeah, I've been busy, and I've been letting real life take precedence on purpose, but really, I've just been lazy online. Is that an oxymoron? It's true.

But every time I get around to drawing, it reminds me of how happy it makes me, and I resolve to do more of it. So I'm getting back in there.

so in case you didn't know, I became a trainer at my work location at the beginning of the summer. it's a pretty big deal for us cause you're passing on the disney magic and all that, and for a few months it was really great, cause I really wasn't doing much training, I would just do a day or two here and there, and I just kept getting my beautiful beautiful mostly-gangster-with-2-days-of-bandit schedules each week.

but every August we get about twelve million new college program kids, and we were understaffed anyway, so that means even more new people, so for the past month and a half I have done absolutely nothing BUT train.

the problem? all training means no more bandit shifts.
bandit is my official sitting around and working on art time!
so these days, if I want to get some art done, I actually have to do it on my own free time!
when I'm not getting paid!
I am having trouble with this concept!!!

but seriously. I am enjoying training and I am reeeally working on some lovely new projects. so hopefully I will have something nice to share soon. we'll see!

Well. Almost.

Recently I've gotten back on track, motivated, and lots of bandit shifts which means lots of free time. I've gone through and finished the few commissions I was paid for aaaages ago, and now I think I'm fully ready to take on a few more.

There are a couple different ways things will be different this time, though. First, my prices are going to be a good deal higher than you may remember, because the last time I did headshots, they ended up taking a LOT longer than I planned, and I got overwhelmed, and stressed, and it just wasn't worth it. As it stands I'm really happy with all of my finished products, and I don't think I would be if I spent less time on them, so I think this is the best solution even if it means I get fewer commissions.

Also, I'm going to be selling through Etsy. It will be so much more orderly and nice and reliable - instead of just having you throw money at me through Paypal! It will also allow me to relist whenever I have an opening, and list more or less commissions depending on how much work I can do at the moment. I think it's far more organized than keeping a list here.

Basically, this is going to be a process, but hopefully it will be an ongoing one. I'm going to start with just a couple slots for painted headshots like I did last year, and as I finish things up I might change prices, list more, and hopefully add some new categories.

At any rate, like I said, it's ALMOST time, because I have to wait for the recipients of the last commissions to give their approval before I post them and use them as examples. But I should have everything ready within a couple days! I wanted to let everyone know in advance so you all have plenty of time to get nice and excited! I know I'M excited!!!

About a month ago I moved into a new house that's literally about 100 feet off Disney property, right behind Magic Kingdom.

During the day we hear the train and every night at 10:00 it's like BANG and we're like what's that? oh wait it's just Wishes. So I'm listening to the fireworks right now. They're really loud.

We can also hear the water pageant and the parade when our AC isn't on.

just thought I'd share.

Also, do you realize I have NEVER had a piece be so popular so quickly as my silly little Cinderella picture? I mean, well over 100 faves within 24 hours. It's CRAZY!!!

Okay, I've seen it three times now, since midnight Thursday. I figured it might be time to figure out what I really think about the movie.

And what I think is, can we please stop killing people and have some real magic? please? I mean, come on... isn't the whole point of being the good guys that you DON'T kill a lot of people unnecessarily??

I also don't think the whole Aslan situation was handled very well. "Things never happen the same way twice... EXCEPT FOR RIGHT NOW!!!"

And can the Bulgy Bears please have more lines? seriously.

That said, there was rather more eye candy in this movie than the first one, yes?? I also happen to work in a very good location.

Last Tuesday! I'm 22 now. Isn't that just ridiculously OLD?!

I had basically the BEST BIRTHDAY EVER too. I went to Epcot with a couple of my closest friends, and we had lunch in Japan and it was deeeelicious. Then another of my friends showed up by surprise right before we were going to go on Spaceship Earth, and gave me my present. I opened it up and almost cried. Five of my friends, the gangsters I work allll the time with, all chipped in and got me a freakin' Nintendo DS. WITH Animal Crossing!!! So I'm never going to be bored at work again!!!!!

Then we sat and ate homemade cake in the middle of Epcot.

IT WAS AMAZING!!!

guuyyyysss Etsy has taken over my life. Nobody told me it would be this addictive!!! But I swear every single night all I can think about is rushing home and checking my store and thinking "Is today the day? Have I sold something??" And then if I haven't, I just think, "Well, then I have to make MORE stuff!!" So I've been making ALL KINDS of REALLY PRETTY THINGS! but my DA page has been languishing a bit if you haven't noticed.

The past couple of weeks have been rather exciting for me because finally, at long last, I got trained as a gangster and bandit at the Great Movie Ride!!! I had my first bandit shift on Friday and yesterday was my first real day as a gangster.

Sadly, I forgot my camera on my bandit day, but we had a great time messing around on the set last night and got some fabulous pictures of me as Mugsi!!!

If you've never been on the ride, none of that probably makes sense, but hopefully this will help you get an idea.

First, my favorite: the classic gangster pose on the stairs.

Then I took a couple of action shots over with Squid and Beans!! (the animatronics)

And then of course there's this nonsense.

And finally... trespassing! because we are just that bad!!!

But that's not all!!!! ~Kitty17794, who's also a castmember, was kind enough to stop by on my first day and ride my show. She even had her friend record my show and put it on youtube! So just in case you're really terribly interested in seeing what I do for a living, here's the link to the video of the first section of my show. So yeah! that's my job. I'm really happy that I got trained - I've waited for it for a long time. But being a tour guide is really fun too, and I work with the [mostly] best people in the world! And I hope that gives some of you a better idea of what I'm talking about when I blab about my job.

Yep, I'm all set and moved into my brand-new apartment! I'm here for the long term too - it's amazing how grown-up it feels to be in my own apartment in my name and everything, knowing I'll be here for a good long while and I don't have to leave in a couple of months.

I was planning on writing a "goodbye, I don't know when I'll have internet again" journal this afternoon before I moved out of my old place but it turns out I'm glad I didn't, because I obviously have the internet right now. Yay for neighbors with wireless!!!

I've finally scraped together what's supposed to be the first chapter/section of the first Castlehill book. I saw it Saturday night and ever since then I've been writhing in an agony of needing to see it again. Seriously, guys, I am so proud of Disney. They finally came through in the CG department. Obviously, I'm a lot happier about the whole situation knowing they're going back to 2D soon, but you gotta give 'em credit for a job well done.

Well, I'm back home in Missouri now. I had an absolutely amazing two weeks though!!! I'm not sure I could have lasted any longer anyway. I'd been running on not much more than caffeine and Disney magic most of the time I was there and I was ready to crash. I slept for five hours this afternoon.

Anyway, leaving was a lot easier this time because I know I'll be back in less than 2 months. We even have a move-in day: May 20! I can not wait. We drove by the place we're going to live and it is SO NICE. This summer is going to be SPLENDID.

Oh yeah, my audition! Well, it's the same as last time: I made it, but they don't need my height range right now, so I've got to sit around and wait and hope they need me soon.

Oh, and I didn't get to work on any very elaborate pieces, but I did some sketches I'm pretty happy with, so prepare for a substantial sketchdump coming soon as well.

Yesterday my best friend and I got up at 4 AM and drove down from Raleigh and got into Orlando at 4 PM. We got our cast ID's and went straight into the park to play!!!

It is so, so, so, so, so wonderful to be back, I can't even begin to describe it. I feel like I've never been gone. Today was my first day back at work, and I needed to take one empty show around the track to practice my spiel and make sure I still knew everything, and I did. It was just like any other day but I met all the new people and it was SO GREAT to just walk into the break room and see people from last summer and see the look on their faces when they saw me!!!

And then after I got off work, we went and saw Fantasmic, and I loved it. I went crazy. It just really completely cemented my feeling that coming here was the best thing I've done since I left last August. I'm just one big swooning puddle of Disney LOVE.

So yeah... basically, I'm very, very happy.

Well kids, this is pretty much it. My flight leaves at 6AM tomorrow, which means I will be leaving for the airport in just about exactly 12 hours!!! I'm definitely not going to sleep tonight. I don't think I could, even if I WAS all packed and ready... which I'm definitely not.

You can't imagine how bouncing-off-the-walls excited I've been all day. I've been dancing around the house and singing and laughing at nothing... because... I'M GOING BACK TO DISNEY!!! It has been far, far too long. I'm actually not flying directly to Orlando, but to Raleigh, where my roommate lives, and then verrry early on Thursday morning we're going to leave and drive down together. And then on Friday I start work!!!

Anyway, I don't know what kind of internet access I'll have while I'm in Florida, and while I'll try to log onto DA when I can, you probably won't see me around much for the next two weeks. My pageviews are probably going to totally die but oh well.

OH IT'S SO GOOD TO BE GOING BACK.

SO if you are anywhere close to as much of a Disney loser as I am, you are probably aware that the platinum 2-disc edition of Peter Pan came out today.

What you may NOT know is that if you are planning to buy the DVD, you should really go to Best Buy. Because not only do you get a free action figure (they actually have Wendy!) you can also get an EXCLUSIVE LUNCHBOX. Okay so it's $5. But it's HOTT.

Anyway! Talking to ~NovellineArt about the release last night got me all excited and I decided to do some fanart to celebrate. Well it's not done. But it's coming!!! So to make up for my own art delay, I went and found some other AMAZING Peter Pan artwork to share with all of you... and I'm finally using my feature box in my journal! Hurrah!!!

If I seem even more excited than usual, I am. I have been gradually disintegrating over the past few weeks into one big MESS of Disney excitement. That's because I leave for Disney World A WEEK FROM TOMORROW!!! My roommate and I will be heading down for a week and a half to work and play and I ABSOLUTELY CAN NOT WAIT. I've been going through such terrible Disney withdrawal for months I don't think you can even understand.

So here are 6 [more] reasons I am weird.

1. I am really really revolted by chalk! I don't know why, but I just can NOT handle touching it for too long, and even some stuffed animal fur freaks me out because I think it feels chalky. I actually can use pastels when I need to, but I have to dash to a sink really quickly and really often... ugghhh, I have to stop thinking about it now.

2. I'm never on time. If it looks like I might be early for something, I'll loiter, because I can use that extra minute or two! I got in big trouble all the time in high school because I would always dash through the classroom door two seconds after the tardy bell stopped ringing.

3. I write my Q's backwards! I make the little tail go off to the left. I didn't even notice until I was in middle school or something and by then it was too late. I have to force myself to write them correctly on job applications and it's rather uncomfortable.

4. I can not do cartwheels. I would very much like to, but I can't. Nor have I been able to at any point in my life, although it's not from lack of trying.

5. I absolutely love the smell of down. You know, the stuff from geese? Nobody else even realizes down has a smell, but it does, and it's marvelous. Sometimes I wander into the home section of Kohl's just to bury my face into their down pillows and comforters and inhale. mmmmm.

6. I recently noticed how, when I'm drawing, I have this weird phobia of covering up people's ears with their hair. I don't know why, but it makes me cringe, and if you look at my art, every single person will have their ears showing, whether it makes sense with their hairstyle or not.

I've been slaving over my computer the past couple days, providing my site with a few much-needed snazzifications. First I updated the gallery and reworked that page, and finally today I set up the two most seriously fabulous developments yet:

1. The jewelry store is up and running, and I have to say, it looks pretty fine. There will be many more items listed over the next few weeks. If I don't get any orders for a while, I might lower the prices. If I get a ton at once, I will raise them. I mean it. I'm also working on setting up a more sophisticated purchasing system, but I'm too tired for that tonight.

2. I have a guestbook! My site is now officially interactive!!! After tearing my hair out over several different horrifically impossible scripts, I finally worked out the first one I'd tried. I'm not completely happy with it, but you know what? It WORKS. So hooray!!!

Several months ago *loish posted a journal showing a lot of her older drawings from years past and how her art has evolved. I'd been wanting to do the same sort of thing for a while now, but as I looked through my old drawings and basically laughed my face off, this became less of a serious chronicle of the development of my style, and much more of an "LOL" sort of thing.


Let's start off with the only known instance of Kecky fanart drawn before high school, probably done at age 8 or so. Drawn of Lisa Frank's Ballerina Bunnies, of course. I was OBSESSED. This would have accompanied what you might call fanfiction, except I never got around to writing it. This illustrates the pattern my writing would take for the rest of my life... I have these really great story ideas, and I draw the pictures for them, and then I'm bored.


This really doesn't have any particular significance towards my artistic journey... but I LOVE IT. I'm really sad that the stickers on the back made it all gross. Probably done around the same time as the previous picture.


I would say that my first real original characters - that I drew often and had established personalities and histories for - were these 4 girls that were heavily based on the concept of American Girl dolls. I designed outfits for all their different situations and everything. I drew them the most at age 11 or 12.

This is Katie, the sporty one, and Taylor, the preppy one. There was also Shanda, the artsy one, and ummm... one I can't remember. They solved mysteries.


My technique of drawing enormous pupils worked all right when the character was looking to the side, but it could cause problems when I wanted to draw somebody looking forward:

I started creating more characters and writing more stories, and became really truly convinced throughout middle school that I was going to be a writer, but I kept drawing my characters more than I wrote about them. In 9th grade (age 14) I started writing a story about this girl named Autumn who saved the world or something. Obviously, I was trying harder to draw believable emotions, with variable results. I don't think I've gotten any better at drawing men since this one.


In the summer of 2003 I started trying to draw people with open mouths well. I remember being SO impressed with these sketches. The style of them, especially the slightly newer ones with narrower faces, were strongly influenced by X-Men Evolution, with which I was obsessed at the time. The character is also obviously strongly influenced by Jim Hawkins, which I vehemently denied.


I drew this in 2002 and I was fairly convinced it was the coolest thing ever. I loved the anime doodles inside the liner notes of the new CD by Superchick - a band which influenced basically every aspect of my life at that point.


I was going to say smugly that my rocker chick was my one brief foray into anime, but OH WAIT THEN I FOUND THIS. Along with several other pages of more of the same.

Wow... what a week it's been. After the second wave of the ice storm hit, our power finally went out on Sunday night. We toughed it out for a couple of days while our leftover heat slowly leaked away, but by Tuesday it was about 45 degrees in our living room so we packed up and ran off to stay at my aunt and uncle's house for a couple nights.

My uncle was lucky enough to get a generator while their power was out a few days ago, so last night we came trotting back home and set that up. So at least now we have some lights and a furnace. Except right now the furnace isn't even working.

So yeah, still no power, and it's sounding like it might be a long time till we get any.

Everything is just so bizarre right now.

I'm not gonna lie, a lot of this week has been a Fun Exciting Adventure. Having a picnic and eating barbecue sandwiches on our living room floor was fun. Playing board games by candlelight was fun. Roasting marshmallows in our neighbor's fireplace was fun. Freezing my toes off..... not so fun.

The ice is FINALLY starting to melt today... but there's a snow forecast for this weekend. :\

So it's been raining all day and by now there's about a half inch of ice coating everything, and I really have no idea how long I'm going to have power. Or internet, for that matter!!! The cable's already been out once.

Anyway, if you don't hear from me over the next couple of days, don't worry. I'll just be huddled with the rest of my family in the basement, around our new propane heater, clutching an ever-dimming flashlight in my poor frozen little fingers.

Yippee!!!

Edit:We just got declared a national disaster area!!!

Amazingly, we still have power at my house, although everything's down within a block or two in any direction. All you can hear when you go outside is the BANG BANG of huge branches falling... I don't know if there are going to be any trees left in Springfield at all when this is done.

And it's supposed to get even worse tomorrow!!!

They only pay you if you've made $20 or more, and if you haven't, the amount just carries over to the next quarter. Well, it's taken quite a bit of time, but I'll be getting a check for $21.80 someday soon!!!!

....do you realize what this means? I made MONEY. I'm a PROFESSIONAL ARTIST.

While I'm on the subject of prints, I'd like to give a belated shout-out to ~HerrHoff. A few days before Christmas I got a mysterious poster tube in the mail - he got a print of *luminatii's Drops of Jupiter for me!!! I was sooo surprised and touched and it looks so beautiful hanging on my wall.
