Short Update: If the "I LOVE MY CAR" displayed below my User ID didn't give you a hint, I managed to get a another car. It is sweetness....and its wheels have managed to stay on for TWO WHOLE MONTHS!

Current Ponderings/Issues: I'm totally loving Stephen King's Cell. The plot is totally preposterous--an electrical signal or "pulse" wipes everything but the id from human cell phone users, creating a bunch of wacked out zombies who are becoming increasingly more organized and powerful--but I'm becoming more drawn into the story, and hence more freaked out, every time I pick up the book. Maybe it's partly due to the intense gratitude I have to be reading anything INTERESTING in general.

The last book I read was Gregory Maguire's Lost, which is supposed to be related to Dickens' A Christmas Carol. I had been on a bit of Maguire binge; I blew through Wicked and Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister like Lindsey Lohan through a bottle of Vodka when the nurses aren't looking. And I loved both novels! As a reader/writer of fanfiction, I can't help but admire Maguire's work. I mean, the guy literally makes a living (and a good one at that) out of writing fanfiction. His novel Lost deviates most from fanfiction, and I would take that as an indication/warning that I should stay away from all of Maguire's non-fanfiction works. The only real reference to Dickens' tale is an assumption that a rarely mentioned relative of the novel's protagonist may have told young Dickens' his lifestory that inspired Dickens' later tale. :whatever: Whatever :whatever:. I ABSOLUTELY, COMPLETELY, TOTALLY LOATHED GREGORY MAGUIRE'S LOST!!!! The real plot encompassed the last 75 pages of an almost 400 page novel and meandered uncomprehendingly through mental-illness/drama-masking-itself-as-a-real-ghost-story to real-ghost-story to utterly-boring-and-uninvolving-crap. I literally forced myself to finish it, thinking that given Maguire's utterly pretentious reader's group notes in the back of the book (which I was able to ignore in Wicked and Confessions) there might be some sort of plot twist that would give the story some meaning and make it worth a damn.

True, this is only my opinion of the book, so you can take it with a grain (or boulder) of salt. But here's a warning/plot-summary to anyone who would think of plodding through this muck of a novel. Yes, this is a **SPOILER ALERT**. The plot in a nutshell: Woman goes to England to write a novel (the reader is forced to read excerpts of said novel--which really sucks even more than the one the reader is currently torturing him/herself with--interspersed with the actual story) and some spooky-occurences-that-could-be-viewed-as-a-ghost-story begin to distract her. It turns out that her "novel in progress" is actually her real life story (the novel's protagonist is really her middle name and married name), which consists of her traveling to Romania with her cousin to pick up an adopted Romanian baby, having bad sex with said cousin, getting snowed in and being revolted by thought having sex with cousin but doing it anyway, and finally making it to the orphanage to find out that the adopted baby has meanwhile died of exposure when the nun tending the fire in his room suddenly (and conveniently for the plot) died and let the fire go out. Her husband divorces her over many things, least of all her having sex with her cousin. What an effin' tearjerker--and you will feel all of the sarcasm in that statement by the time you actually get to this plot revelation. The reader finds this out at the very end of the novel. Why? Because we're supposed to wonder whether or not she's experiencing a real ghost story or just a temporary mental fugue induced by all of the events in her sad-sack life. The answer is both: a real ghost finally surfaces and possesses her in the last 75 pages and drives her to try to relinquish her body to the ghost so that the ghost can kill the body and experience a real death of sorts. The ghost has absolutely nothing to do with either Dickens' Scrooge or Jack the Ripper. Believe me, if you make it this point in the story you won't care about any of the characters, least of all the protagonist and her trashy medieval French ghost.

Go read Stephen King's Cell. Go read anything else except for the utter crap that is Lost.

It's around finals time and crazy stories tend to start flying, usually in an effort to avoid presentations/project due dates/tests/etc. Wheels on automobiles usually do not fly, though.

Crap, I forgot to "usually".

It was teh amazing! And teh scary! And teh true! But enough with intentional spelling errors for effect. With Carlos O Kelly's as my witness, the wheel of my car actually flew off last week.

I was driving to work around lunchtime with no more problems than my car usually gives me. I began to hear this buzzing noise coming from that wheel and figured that the tire was rubbing up against something inside the wheel-well. The buzzing soon became a disjointed rumble and I figured that I better make a stop at my mechanic's garage, which was on the way, for a quick look-see. No sooner had the thought entered my head when the front of my car suddenly hit the ground. I was in the far-left lane of Coliseum Ave., which is a fairly large bypass in Ft. Wayne. My first action was to bring the car to a stop while not fishtailing out into traffic, which was luckily quite easy to do given the Insta-Brake effect the front of a car grinding onto a road has.

When my wheel fell off, the car probably fell on top of it first, which was just enough force to send the entire wheel bouncing into the air high above the tops of all vehicles on the road. While I watched, the wheel bounced over the median to the other side of the road, where it struck the rear passenger door of another vehicle. The impact of that sent the wheel careening back onto my side of the road, where it rolled all the way to the side of the road (cars were weaving back and forth trying to dodge it), bounced off the curb, and then rolled back across to land on top of the median at the head of the intersection at Coldwater Rd.

Meanwhile, the car that was struck by the wheel pulled to a stop beside the median and the car behind (who had not yet been struck by anything) does the same just because it was lunchtime traffic and he couldn't move into another lane. I was shaking behind the wheel wondering if somehow I had received some sort of nasty head-injury that made me hallucinate all of the wheel acrobatics.
Just as I'm stepping out of my car I hear a huge crash. Another driver, whom I assume was distracted by the sight of my pitiful 3-wheeler nose-diving into the pavement, had rear-ended the car that had been forced to stop behind the car that was struck by my wheel. The whole situation seemed unreal and impossible, like some crappy Michael Bay action sequence (without explosions and fire, thank God).

I had happened to pull to a stop right when the left turn lane was forming, which would have left me stranded between two lanes of streaming traffic had the woman who had been entering said turn lane next to me not stopped. Had she not, I probably would have ended up a road pancake because I was far too flabbergasted to think much beyond "OMG, my wheel just flew off my car and caused a multiple car accident on Coliseum!" This very kind person was already dialing 911 when I exited my car and comforted me. She wisely kept me away from the occupants of the vehicles who had been involved in the rear collision. I knew that I was not legally at fault in that accident, but I still felt extremely bad since the person who was had probably been distracted by what had happened.

My new-found Mediator and I spoke with the woman whose car had been struck by my wheel, and both she and her passenger had not been harmed by the impact (which probably wouldn't have been the case if the wheel had struck higher and possibly gone through a window). So all was good there. The police, an ambulance, a tow-truck, and my mother showed up shortly after that, and we began to get things sorted out. The man who had been rear-ended complained of some neck pain and ended up taking the ambulance the hospital. Since he was walking around after the accident, I would like to hope that his pain turned out to be nothing more than a combination of shock and mild whip-lash. The police confirmed that I was not at fault for the rear-collision and that a separate accident report was being filed for that.

So everything went as well as it possibly could after that. My car was towed to the garage I had been heading towards in the first place. My mechanic concluded that the wheel was loose due to faulty alignment work done by another mechanic back in April. My mechanic concluded that the reason the wheel ended up falling off in DECEMBER was probably because someone tried to steal one or more of my wheels but was interrupted before he could take off all of the nuts. I think that was the scariest part of the whole ordeal, learning that a dumbass criminal contributed to a 4-car accident on a large and busy road.

I've been floating onto DevArt every few days, responding to messages and leaving ones of my own. I'm waiting for some more time to go and read all of 's gorgeous Sessh/Rin fanmanga goodness. I could use a little inspiration. Heck, I could use a little energy.

I spent a lot of last night wading through amino acid and nucleotide sequences for HSV-1 and their analogs in VZV. That's all for my grad school thesis project. My prof works with herpes viruses (I tell people that and they usually tend to scoot a few feet away from me ), specifically VZV (that's the chickenpox and shingles virus) so I get to work with them too since I'll be doing my thesis in his lab. It's exciting stuff and he's a great prof. I've already sent a letter to the chancellor of my university about him, and I need to remember to send an equally glowing one to the chair of the Biology Department for tenure purposes. I'm thinking about using a phrase like "His enthusiasm for his subject matter is as infectious as the viruses he studies." I know, I'm weird.

But anyway, we've been discussing what I should do for my thesis and he's come up with phage display & bio-panning. The names are all techy sounding, but they basically just sum up to me using macrophages (viruses that infect bacteria) to find out if certain proteins in VZV interact. Bio-panning is kind of a take off panning for gold, and the technique is similar. If I find anything, that information could be used to develop vaccines or medicines to combat not just VZV (cuz' shingles sucks) but potentially all other herpes viruses. And that would be sweet for lots and lots of people.

The hardest part right now is the waiting. I haven't actually done any in-lab work yet, and probably won't be until next semester. Right now I'm just supposed to be researching journal papers and the manuals for the phage display/bio-panning kits and developing a plan of action. I feel kind of like a little kid because I have almost no concept for the amount of money ($600+ for 5 panning experiments?!!) and the time-frame (No panning until summer?!!) that real research requires. The journals and especially the manuals are pretty dry stuff, not fun like reading fanfics at all!

I'm actually trying not to work on fics right now so that that dry technical writing style doesn't bleed through into the fic. Just imagine a rousing chapter on Inuyasha's cold sore or Kagome getting shingles . Nope. Probably not going to be enjoyed by fangirls or fanboys.

I've just finished Stephen King's Dark Tower series and have been trying to read through all of his Dark Tower-related books and stories and make all of the connections. It's a pretty rewarding experience, and I found it more so when I found out that Stephen King actually lived in Fort Wayne, IN (my hometown) for awhile when he was a kid. The knowledge that he may have seen Slippage (read the DT books, people, and find out for yourselves) in old Fort Fun helps to counteract all of the dry journals and make me feel more inspired. On the otherhand, I tend to feel pretty insecure and intimidated when I start to analyze the writing of real authors. So it's a toss-up on whether or not I'll be adding any more chapters to Danketsu in the recent future.

And then, there's 's wedding coming up November 4th! Maid of Honor reporting for duty! We're gearing up for the bachelorette party right now. It's going to be on Halloween so us fangirls can get in costume and party hardy --with assorted male genitalia (fake not real ) for atmosphere. Maybe I'll even print off some good SDS to add to the fangirl ambiance. Either way you look at it, it's going to be cuh-razy! And 4 days later is the Big Day itself!

So...

DEVART MENU CHANGE INSANITY: Fangirls unite strongly to battle the forces of mental breaks in the fast lane!

Or something like that. I'll add a funky emoticon to the end: Now that's sweet.

Anyway, what's up people? It's been a hella long time since I've blogged on DevArt (reminds self that she despises blogs with a passion ) and I have plenty of excuses for that, the first being that I've been lazy and have had a bunch of cuh-raziness going on this summer.

Let's summarize. First of all I had to get my costume made for SogenCon 2006 in Marshall, MN. Very cool, very small Con. I dressed up as Youko/Queen Kei from The Twelve Kingdoms (if you haven't seen it yet, please go out and do so because you won't ever regret it), my boyfriend, Nate, dressed up as Rakushun, and ~QueenOfTheCute dressed up as Shoukei. Our costumes were most sweet and we won the Best Craftsmanship Award. You can see some pics of these costumes if you go onto CosplayLab (click www.cosplaylab.com) and perform an anime search for "Twelve Kingdoms". I'm going to post more detailed pics here when I get the time to do it and play with the wig a little more. Heck, I might just make the Stupid Hat to go with it.

Anyways, after getting back from the Con I was busy with work stuff...and with finishing up my application for grad school. I just read over that sentence, and to me, those 22 words and 5 punctuation marks indicate a simplicity that simply does not exist. At least not in my situation. Let's see. First of all, I had to wait for one of my profs to change a grade for a class. He called me up at the end of the spring semester to say he'd misgraded and instead of a "C" I had actually earned a "B" in the class and that he would fix it. I wanted that nice shiny "B" on my transcript, after all I'd earned it, so I decided to wait...and wait...and wait. My nice and shiny "B" didn't end up appearing on my transcript until late June/early July, which is no big deal as the due date for the application was July 27. No sweat there, because I had everything else--my GRE, application form, statement of purpose, letters of recommendation--all ready to go. Or so I thought. You see, I received a bit, well a crap-load, of misinformation from a certain person (who from now on will be referred to as "CP") in the department, who for his position should have known what the hell he was talking about, that ended up screwing me over and putting me past the due date for both the application and class payment. I was told to NOT submit my application online to the big university that my university is affiliated with but to print it out and include it with my application materials. This shouldn't have been a really big problem, because the grad school booklet (written by CP) said I could pay the application fee at my school's Bursar and also I had everything else together. Well, it turns out that submitting the application online to the big university happened to be a really BIG deal. You see, the grad school book was misprinted (that's a nice word for totally screwed up) and I couldn't pay the application fee at my school's bursar and the application had to be submitted online to the big university. Tied to the latter is the fact that the profs I had asked for letters of recommendation would not be notified and sent the proper forms until the application was submitted online (which is also where you pay the app fee) and everything had now snowballed out of control. Being the person he is, CP declares that none of this is his fault, but this holds absolutely no water as he did the same thing a year ago by neglecting to tell me that I was missing one class I needed to graduate and I was forced to take an extra year of classes. That situation did benefit me in the end as I was able to walk with my classmates at the graduation ceremony before I took the class, and also earned minors in Chemistry and Psychology that following year, but the point is is that I was misled and misadvised. So after careful thought and discussion with relatives and other close friends I decided to pull a trump card and arranged to have a certain powerful someone (I will call...

Rules : The 1st player of this "game" starts with the topic "6 weird habits/things about yourself" and people who get tagged need to write a journal about their 6 weird habits/things as well as state this rule clearly. (The s were my idea) In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says "you are tagged" in their devpage comments and tell them to read yours....
1. When I eat french fries I arrange them systematically as I pull them from the box. The shortest ones are grouped together in 3's or 4's depending on how hungry I am and eaten. Then I move up to the larger fries, saving the big long ones for last.

2. I like to have my groups of fries even at the ends for equal dippage area in ketchup.

3. Like ~QueenOfTheCute, I also have a series of noises that I use exclusively. Somehow everyone else can translate and understand them.

4. I have two bunnies and I like to put rabbit words into songs I hear. For example, ~mentalbaka is a huge Doors fan so one day when she was playing "Riders on the Storm" I started thinking: "Rabbits have the Worms."

5. Ever since I started following the Go Fug Yourself website (www.gofugyourself.com), I've developed this habit of analyzing the clothes of other people and using GFY catchphrases to describe them. Example: "Sweet fancy Spears! Target must have the fug out on young girls since they're advertising spandex capri tights with jean minis! Maybe they can cinch a too-small belt around their waists to develop the dreaded quadra-butt."

6. I like things that make other people squeamish like viruses, bacteria, parasites, and nasty diseases. Did you know that a particular parasitic infection was (and still is) so common in Egypt that the ancient Egyptians believed that young boys hit puberty when they started pissing blood (a symptom of the infection)? Gross but true. I dig it.

This will be a quickie entry. Basically I just want the opinion of fellow Deviants on a particular issue I and ~mentalbaka are having with another Deviant, ~VenomousInk. A while back, Mentalbaka posted this pic: [link] In the background you can see various graffiti, which turns out is by a gang of kids who weren't too happy to be called a gang. You can read through the various replies and comments.

Anyway, I and the dictionary have always considered graffiti to be a crime because it is a defacement of public and private property characteristically without the permission of the owner. And if a group of people commit a crime, they are a gang, correct? Well, this guy (who has tagged defenseless trees in a public park no less) seems to think that I'm incredibly close-minded, ignorant, and not in the "hip-hop-graff-writer-in-Fort-Wayne,-Indiana" scene. Whatever. :whatev:

What do you guys think? Let me know, and if you want, let ~VenomousInk know too!

Okay, that felt good.

Now, back to the blogging. Well, a lot of things have happened since May 8, 2005 (yes, this was the date on my last blog ) Mainly, I was busy getting costumes made for AnimeNorth 2005. The costume making: stressful. The payoff: major.

I went as Kourin from the anime The Twelve Kingdoms, which I highly recommend to everyone to watch. The covers may be all pastelly and girly-looking, but the content is anything but. The Twelve Kingdoms--or Junni Kokki as it is also called--is based on a series of books of the same name. The easiest way to explain the series is to say that it's like a Chinese Lord of the Rings series, except without elves, orcs, wizards, or rings. Yeah. The world of the Twelve Kingdoms is richly populated with many 3-dimensional characters in a unique and highly defined cultural setting. Don't believe me? Each dvd comes with an insert containing a mini-encyclopedia of useful terms to help you understand the series. Don't let that scare you off though, it's takes a bit of thinking and careful listening to get into the series, but the payoff is well worth the initial confusion.

Plug aside, I will post my sketches and photos of me wearing the actual outfit as soon as possible. I'm planning on making more Twelve Kingdoms costumes and I've got ~QueenOfTheCute into it as well. I'm going as Youko/Queen Kei/Sekishi (most characters have many names) in her everyday outfit sans silly hat and shoes, and Megan is going as Shoukei/Princess Sanshou/Gyoukuyou in her princess outfit sans silly headress.

So, back to the past, ~mentalbaka, ~QueenOfTheCute, and I drove to AnimeNorth. We drove from our home in Fort Wayne, Indiana, USA all the way up to Toronto, Ontario, Canada. It was a long trip. We had a really good time with everything (you can probably go read their blogs for a better description) and we got to finally meet *tarkheki, which was most sweet! We had almost given up hope of finding her because we didn't really know what she looked like other than she would be dressed as Rin and her identical twin sister would be dressed as Robin and that they would be manning an art booth. We looked through the art booths several times with no luck, but happened, by chance, to run into both Tark-chan (whose real name is Bernice) and her sister Iris (that is her real name ) when we were walking back to the DoubleTree hotel. So that was most sweet to finally meet one of the most vehemently pro-Rin&Sessh people on DevArt !!!!

I got a chance to purchase prints of some of Tark-chan's gorgeous artwork, including the 6 title pictures she made for Fluffy Love. I finally found frames for all of them and hung them up in my living room, and, as promised, will post a pic of them on my wall soon! Thank you so much, Tark-chan!

The rest of AnimeNorth was most cool as well! Not only did we get to meet another fellow Deviant, :devurdchan: (or is it ~Urd-chan?), who is not a Sessh&Rin fan, but is still cool because she's from Indiana just like us! for Hoosierness! She conducted an Inuyasha panel with her daughters and had a lot of great info about where th...

You ever have those random ideas that just sort of pop in your head? And when you get one, you're like "Gee, that's kind of a good idea, but I'm about 99.96% (I'm all about the sig figs) certain it won't happen." And then the gears start clicking (in your head as well as in your life) and your random idea suddenly becomes a very clear reality? Yeah...it's happening to me. And it all started because of a conversation between myself, ~ QueenOfTheCute, and ~mentalbaka about where in the heck ~tarkheki lives.

Here's how the conversation started:

~Kena: "Tark must live way the hell west because she's always online when it's the butt crack of dawn in Ft. Wayne." [Consequently that's where I, Queen-chan, and MB-chan live]

~mentalbaka: "No, she lives in Canada, I think in Toronto."

~Kena: "Really? Is Toronto in Western Canada?"

~mentalbaka: "No, it's like above Lake Erie. She must just like to surf the web at the butt crack of dawn."

~Kena: "Oh I see!"

~QueenOfTheCute: "That would be so cool to visit her sometime."

~mentalbaka: "She's so funny!"

~Kena: "Yeah! But how the hell would we get over the lakes?"

~mentalbaka: "You bonehead, we would just drive around them!"

~QueenOfTheCute: "Yeah, we would drive through like 4 states. Or is it 5? It's 4 definitely. But wait, Pennsylvania is a state so that would make it 5. And...." [Consequently, we all spent several minutes demonstrating our almost complete lack of geography skills trying to figure out exactly how many states we would have to drive through to get to Toronto]

~Kena: "Okay, that sounds cool! And we could see moose!"

~QueenOfTheCute, ~mentalbaka, ~Kena : "Yay! Moose!"

This conversation started the balls rolling [Consequently, we're all girls, so the balls here would be metaphysical, not literal, besides the fact that if we were male having our balls rolling would probably be both intensely painful and lead to future infertility, which we would blame on our metaphysical girlfriends, which wouldn't be metaphysical if we were, in fact, male *nods sagely*] Hanyways, Tark-chan sent me a note regarding the TFIIB Contest on ~YoungInfatuation (please go and check it out!), and I mentioned the conversation MentalBaka and I had had. She responded very enthusiastically, as she tends to do , that we should come up to visit her when she's at the Anime North convention. She also clarified the fact that we didn't need to know how many states we needed to drive through because we could take a "fairy" across the lake. She also said that there weren't many moose, but we could see Mounties. I was disappointed on the lack of moose-age, but parking my vehicle on a mystical, winged being the size of a toothpick and flying on fairy dust across one of the great lakes greatly excited me.

More balls started rolling (this is also the point in time where that whole idea thing that I mentioned in the beginning of this journal started forming in it's little gelatinous ball of neuronical...-ness in the back of my head.

And it wasn't just in my head either! See, us girls don't have balls (well, the metaphysical ones, but that's besides the point ), but we sure do think alike (the whole 'great minds' thing, maybe, or the presence of the metaphysical balls, whatev *shrugs*). When I forwarded Tark's response to Queen-chan and MentalBaka saying that we had been commanded, both replied fairly enthusiastically, Queen-chan more so because MentalBaka is already going to Europe this summer, so at the time, going to Canada wasn't very feasible for her.

So some more time passed. La dee da dee da....

I can not believe this, but it's been over a month and a half since I've last written in my DevArt journal. So, here I am, sitting in one of the computer labs at school, writing. I know I should I be trying to find a topic for my senior seminar class, or studying for one of my other classes, but darnit I want to play around on DevArt!

Hmmm, so what's been happening in my life since Dec. 3? Well, I did the whole Christmas thing. Apparently I my aunt during Christmas brunch with the family. She was asking me what I was going to do with my life now that I've decided not to go to med school. I told her that I was going to get my master's in micro and work in industry. Apparently that wasn't specific enough for her (maybe she wanted me to say that I was going to study the sphincter muscles of the Indiana gray squirrel or something?), and I got a bit snarky with her about it at the table. The rest of the holiday was really good, though.

Now I'm back in school and, in general, I'm enjoying my classes. I'm taking Immunology, Analytical Chemistry, Senior Seminar, Child Psych, and this really easy First Aid class. I've been stressing about Senior Sem for sometime, but now I'm a bit relieved since one of my fave profs agreed to be my mentor for the class. Now I just need to find a topic, which sounds a lot easier than it's turning out to be. The Immunology class is great; the prof is a hoot and always joking about how he has people constantly breeding in his basement so that he can have a constant human stock on which he can perform experiments.

Work is starting to really suck, because everyone has switched over to this new computer network (which is run by the afore-mentioned Nazi bastards ). I'd like to think that we're all lemmings plowing blindly over a digital, metaphysical cliff by the name of sanity. That sounds semi-poetic (bad poetry; I'm no good), but it's really the truth, because not only does it block out DevArt, but all email servers and messenger services as well. If you've been wondering why I've been such a ghost on DevArt lately, it's not because I dislike you or DevArt, but because of the stupid firewall.

My biggest frustration by far, though, is all the with this ski trip my friend Matt has been organizing. Get this: I've been wanting to go since our last trip 2yrs ago and have been bugging him to start making plans for it since this past fall. I was even more excited when I found out one of our friends who I haven't seen in almost a year is flying up from Florida to go as well. Apparently Matt just called me to tell me the details on Monday, and I finally got to talk to him last night. Now this is what really gets me :steamed: : I've been left to fend for my own ride since Matt gave my seat in the car to his boring as hell, living and breathing luggage with a vagina of a girlfriend whom he's been dating for all of 3-4 months. That means if I want to go, I'll have to drive the 8hrs myself and carpool the other rejects whom I don't know very well, and one of those happens to be a guy that decided it would be fun one day to leave obscene and threatening messages on my answering machine.

Real nice friend, huh? Letting his dry as burnt toast girlfriend have my seat in the car with all my friends plus the guy I haven't seen in a long time (whom she doesn't know) and relegating me, the person who has been about falling over on her face to go since the fall (before he started dating this loser) to basically find my own way there. Yeah, thanks a lot, Matt. Yeah, I realize that you've been really busy and haven't had time to plan. And I also remem...

So, I've been on this horror/supernatural/spooky kick at the moment. Nothing unusual, because I used to read up on the occult all the time (I'm a big Anne Rice fan ). My interest in the occult never fades when it comes to books, but I have a limited amount of desire to watch horror movies (Except for the Evil Dead movies; those are great!).

As I mentioned earlier, though, I'm on a kick. My source of media for this kick: my father. My dad tends to get obsessed about things. If I were to chronicle his obsessions they would run as so: beer brewing, fish, video library (400+ recorded vhs!), guns, computers, and dvds, with the latter three effectively blending together.

To all you gun-poo-pooing liberals out there, let me tell you that my dad taught both my brother and I at an early age that whenever we wanted to see the guns all we had to do was ask and he would either show us or take us out shooting, otherwise they were off-limits. Being that he was obsessed with them at the time (he's not a hunter, just enjoys the technology and going out target-shooting at a couple of ranges), every time he got a new gun he had to show it to us, so my brother and I soon became disinterested in the guns. To sum it up: my bro and I are both more than proficient with a wide variety of guns and this familiarity never sparked any desire to handle the guns without our father around, thus proving that firearms are not a universally "bad thing" when knowledge and experience are fostered in the user.

Random Gripe: I hate it when these self-labeled "open-minded" people rank things like movies and other forms of entertainment on a completely objective scale when such things as entertainment are anything but. Do you realize how much that limits your entertainment options? You can enjoy so much less of what this wide, diverse world of ours has to offer. And this only contributes to the narrowing of your so-called "open mind" even more. *Shakes head* So sad.

Hanyways, I was saying that my dad's newest obsession is dvds. Remember me mentioning that the vhs collection of movies is currently above the number of 400? Yeah, the dvd collection is expanding even faster than the vhs, and I wouldn't be surprised if he has over 200 at the moment (more come in almost every day). So I've been borrowing a lot of the dvds to watch for myself. This latest batch included some classic horror/thriller movie staples including Rosemary's Baby, The Omen, The Prophecy Movies (Christopher Walken-tastic ), and several other titles.

Yes, now here's my observation on The Omen. Maybe I'm crazy and a moron, but immediately my interest was peaked after hearing the opening theme of the movie. To all of the Hellsing fans out there who own the soundtracks, did you realize how similar The Omen's opening theme is to one of the songs (I think it's titled "Original Sin For Not Keeping Virginity") on the "Raid" soundtrack? I was like , the composer of Hellsing, Kenji Kawai, gave a total nod to Jerry Goldsmith (the composer of The Omen's soundtrack) with that track! Call me naive, but how cool is it that!

I also purveyed for myself the dvds for 2 different Dracula movies--the 1970s version with Laurence Olivier and the 90s version with Gary Oldman. As you've probaby realized, I'm a big Hellsing fan, which is probably the reason I'm on this kick in the first place. I had to watch the Dracula movies, and when I did, thoughts of Alucard and the rest of the Hellsing organization kept running through my head. I've scribbled down a few notes for a tentative Seras/Alucard fic, but am too cowardly, not to mention too busy, at the moment to really do anything constructive with it.

Speaking of fanfiction, I'm pysched to start writing the Fluffy Love sequel. Yes, I know I need to find a better title for it than that. And the thing is, I'm going to let this fic go with the flow, so I have no clue what to title it! Which also means that DevArt is the only archive I can post it on, si...

Wow, a month between journal entries?! I can't believe that time has gone so quickly!

So what's been happening that I should chronicle.....
Ah! Well, I've made it halfway through the semester with no major mishaps. I've done well on all my tests, not managed to kill my self or anyone else in the Virology lab, became infected with the Doodling Disease, and got a way cool apron with the General Dynamics (where I work) moniker on it.

And that about brings us up to date. Well....not quite....

First of all, I had another fangirl attack today, thanks to , who produced yet another beautiful piece of artwork for my Fluffy Love fic! This one was for Chap5, and has a demonic Sessh facing down one of the boar youkai in a very eery setting! Oh, it's just gorgeous. *Deep breaths Deep breaths* Please, please go check out her gallery! Thank you so much, Tark-chan!

My second piece of big news for the day is that I've started writing the second installment of Fluffy Love. I have no clue what to title it, and given my title horrors (and believe me, I have been belageured--or whatev--by people who do not care for that title), I think that I'll release the first chapter and leave it up to the readers to decide. Everything is currently handwritten in one of my notebooks that just seem to lie all over my apartment, so I need to go about typing and editing it. Nothing is really set in stone as far as the plot is concerned. I think that I'm just going to let the story go where it wants to, but I do have some specific ideas and curve balls that I want to through in eventually...

No worries to people who want to see a resolution to the Kouga/Ayame fic! I'm also finishing that up, and I'm waiting for the story to kind of dim in my mind so I can go back and perform some major editing to it, since it really needs some guidance.

Third piece of news: I've been afflicted by the horrible Doodling Illness. I've been doodling on everything everwhere all the time, and even got in trouble for drawing all over my notes in Immunology class. This tends to happen (the Doodling Disease, not the trouble in Immunology ) every few years, and to diffuse it I have to draw some things. So I sat down one night, and for the most part I think I've got it out of my system. The products are a collection of sketchy, smudgy drawings of Kouga, Ayame, Ginta, and Hakkaku--the youkai wolves from Inuyasha. For some odd reason, these pics turned out halfway decent from the most part. In light of that, I would like to draw more, at least ink out what I have now, but I think that the Fever may have passed. *Sigh*

Well, it's 5pm and my shift is over!

So many cool things have happened lately I just don't know where to start! Well, I do know where to start, but I like using the phrase "don't know where to start." Ahem. Well first of all, I ended up having fall break with no homework or exams to study for (at least, none that I know of ), and then finally had some freetime in her busy stalker-filled schedule (don't ask) to spend time with me! Unfortunately, had weekend commitments that kept her from seeing us, which is a rare occasion.

Hanyways, Megan and I watched Inuyasha and some Hellsing (interesting mix, I know). I just had to show her IY episode 162 since we both love Rin and Sesshy. And oh, the angsty goodness! And then we watched Inu and Sessh fight the Demon Pants in movie 3. It was very exciting! And then we watched Hellsing, amid laughs, because since I saw the pic of Alucard by confusing him with Carmen Sandiego I just can't help but laughing when I watch Hellsing.

But what was probably the coolest thing to happen to me in a long time was seeing the awesome piece of artwork that made as a cover piece for the first chappie of Fluffy Love! You can either look at chapter 1 on my page for it, but definitely make sure to leave your comments for her at this [link] for the picture. It's absolutely beautiful! Make sure you check out her gallery too!

Wow! I'm so excited to have found so many SesshxRin fanatics like myself! . As stated, we have all been whacked by that horny houshi Miroku! For all you who don't know, there is a group for all of us Sessh and Rin addicts! It's called Young Infatuation . Please go check it out and send the group a note if you want to join!

There have been several ideas for additional fun group projects that are open to all members! You don't have to contribute any fanfiction, fanart, etc. to the group to be a member, all you have to be is a rabid SesshxRin fanperson! (*props to the pc-ness in "fanperson" *).

There has been a contest running this month, and so far two entries have been submitted (you can read mine at this [link] ). You can view all entries at . They're turning out pretty lemony so far, and the eventual goal of the contest is to co-produce fanfiction, art, etc. from the entries.
Now that I have some free time on my hands, I can go through all of the piles and piles of IY fanfiction I've come upon on DevArt. Please check out 's fic "Bishies Without Shirts" [link] ! Besides having my favourite two dog demons running around topless, there are some absolutely hilarious moments!

For Trigun Fans:
Check out the coolest self-insertion Trigun fic ever (and forgive me for the shameless plug ). It's at 's page and you can read it here: [link]

The lac operon can be used for alpha complementation in a recombinant plasmid experiment by......AHHH! NO MORE!!!!!! Save me please from the horrors of college! I've had four exams in the past two weeks and one coming up this tuesday! Not to mention the 10+ page lab report for my BioTech class.

And then there's the research credit I'm going for in the virology lab. Yesterday I had to watch while a rabbit was injected with chickenpox antigen. The poor thing's back was covered with these huge red hives from previous injections. I understand that it's a test animal and that all conditions for humane treatment are being met and that it's sacrifice truly is going for the greater good. But...I'm a rabbit person....I have two of my own who are like my kids. So it's hard to watch.

The point of this rant? All of this school stuff is keeping me from finishing my Sessoumaru x Rin fanfiction! All that's left to finish is the lemon, and possibly a short epilogue. Thank you to all the kind peeps who have been reviewing the story. It really means a lot!
I promise, cross me heart and swear to die, stick a needle in my eye, that I'll post the chapter this weekend at the very latest!

Two years ago, in the basement of a modest suburban home in Ft. Wayne, IN, four girls shared an idea, an idea so devious, so creative, so off-the-wall, so time-consuming that it wasn't until this very week that it was brought to DeviantArt for your viewing enjoyment.

And what was this idea? A Trigun Fanfiction. But not just any Trigun fanfic, mind you--a self-insertion on the grandest scale imaginable! All four girls took turns writing--one chapter here, one chapter there--and arguing over which guy their character would end up with.

Well, it's still far from done (*pesters ), but you can at least read the first few chapters on 's page. also has a bunch of art for the story which you can find in her gallery (along with a lot of other really cool shtuff!) Melissa is the fourth writer of this quartet, and I'm currently bugging her in her supreme busy-ness to get setup with a DevArt account.

Sometimes I feel like the most lazy person. Honestly, now. About a year ago, for fun, I thought I would write this Inuyasha fanfic. It would be a lemon with an older Rin x Sesshoumaru. Like most things I start writing, it began to seem like it would become too big a project to handle so I shelved it. Megan--all around InuYasha fanfiction connissuer (French-speaking people, please forgive my horrible spelling)--kept bugging me to finish it whilst I kept bugging her to finish her chapter of our Trigun RPG (*bug bug*)! Then all of a sudden I get the urge to write, so I pulled it out and now the 5 or 6 handwritten pages have turned into this nearly 20-page long fanfiction.

Go figure, right?

Well, Megan, I have decided to dedicate the fic to you not only because you love IY, but because you need some lemony goodness to keep you company when your Chris is away. *wink wink*

The story is told from Rin's POV. I know better than trying to write Fluffy's POV since he's so damn unemotional. On that note, there is some OOC as Sesshoumaru shows an emotion other than anger and Rin gets a little angsty. I tried to go for rich details and some cutesy sweet humor in bits, but I'm not sure if those will pan out and I would really appreciate some criticism. The title, "Fluffy Love," sounds horrible to me, but so far I haven't been able to think of anything better.

I'm not quite sure what to list it under on DevArt. I mean, is it a polished deviation or a scrap or something else? *sigh* And while I'm on that note: what in the heck is a shell?

I take up Cyber-Space now! He he! Megan posted a couple of pics from her photoessay for school. The theme was women with swords looking all badass. There are two pics, the first one with our friend Malina looking all badass in my kimono, and then the second one with me looking badass in my kimono. I put the one with me in it on my favorites list so that I could direct people I chat with on messenger to it. (Gripe: You're online. Why do you need to know what your aim-buddies look like? Random thought: It takes skill to use the restroom while wearing the kimono without getting the sleeves (which go down to the knees) in the toilet or sink.

If you've wandered here I guess you've seen my little buddy icon devart thingie and wondered to yourself: "Gee, that sure looks like a screencap of someone else's drawing." So while you're wandering and wondering I'll give a simple explanation.

The drawing that this screencap was taken from was drawn and colored by my wonderfully talented friend Megan (www.queenofthecute@deviantart.com). The char's name is Oritsu and Megan drew her for me way back in the day (I'm thinking almost 5yrs ago) when I was hot and heavy writing this DBZ fanfiction. Well, I'm still writing the fanfiction. Yeah...I know....21 years old is a little old for DBZ, but what the hell. Even though I'm not really into DBZ anymore, I still enjoy writing the fic, and other people seem to like it too, and I'm just fine and dandy with that. I'm not sure yet if I'll post the fic here, but if you just happen to be interested, you can catch my website at [link]

Enough with shameless plugs and back to the reason for this journal entry. I used this screencap of Megan's art because not only do I love the pic and want to pay ultimate homage to the goddess who made it (all hail Megan!) but I needed some little buddy icon pic for the time being because I'm not all to fond of the little green devart one. Even though I don't care for the icon, DevArt rocks!

So, to tie in the title of this entry, until I change my icon, realize that it is flattery to Megan and that other than the original character concept, I had no part in the creation of the artwork.

Oh yeah, and my advice to the kiddies out there is to never imitate Michael Jackson, in either looks or deeds. That's not flattery. That's psychosis. Very scary.
