Right now we're in Orlando, Florida, putting our feet up after a long day spent at EPCOT. If you attend any Disney park on your birthday before December 31, 2009, you get in free if you regisiter online in advance! This was the first real vacation we've had in years without our kids, so it feels a bit like a second honeymoon. It was really hot -- hotter than normal for October, I hear -- but we had a blast! We really enjoyed the food and wine tasting festival...what's not to love about a tropical breeze, munching on exotic foods and listening to great music (I need to hunt down an "Off Kilter" CD)? We found a few great gifts for our son and daughter (which I won't name here because they may read this before we get home), I got a wonderful Tigger sweatshirt among other things, and it was a fantastic day. I got enough "Happy Birthday" wishes to last the rest of my life!

Tomorrow we're headed to Tampa for dungeness crab legs, a bit of shopping and a walk on the beach before we fly home on Thursday morning.

tells me the weather at home is nasty, so I'll have to suck in all the sunshine I can in the time we've got left.

Good vacations help shake the cobwebs out of your brain. And this has been a terrific one.

This summer has been...interesting. It's been cool so my tomatoes look pathetic (a problem with cold nights, the local farmer tells me), but the parsley and herbs are very happy. We didn't get to go on any vacations thanks to my husbands' 10% pay cut, courtesy of our pathetic Michigan governor and legislature, but we live in a recreational area that's always beautiful. My daughter

celebrated her Sweet 16th birthday on Thursday and she can't wait to go back to school.

I hope everyone had a terrific summer, and have a happy Labor Day weekend! We're having family over for a cookout tomorrow so I need to get busy cleaning (sigh). See you next week!

My mother-in-law passed away late last Thursday. Kudos to anyone who works in hospice -- these people are heroes with big hearts. Ovarian cancer is insidious and nasty, and they were able to keep her relatively pain-free during her final days.

My wonderful husband thinks our house is too big, but I had a purpose in mind when we built. We're having relatives come in sometime soon -- Wednesday is my best guess -- and the space will come in handy. The funeral is set for Friday, so life is -- once again -- on hold until the week is over. DH has the job of coming up with a eulogy for a woman who was unpleasant in life. I don't envy him.

Bear with me, folks. I came back juiced from Marcon and ready to write and work on more art, and I'm not happy to have it shoved to the back burner again. Timothy Zahn is a gentleman and the writing panels were great...I just wished they hadn't coincided at the same time as the art panels!
