My gaming PC is about to die, and I'm not sure if I should try to salvage it and patch it up for a while with new parts, or if I should just go ahead and finally get an Xbox 360 since the price went down (don't tell me to get a PS3 or Wii - there aren't enough games I want for those systems).

The thing is, if I update my computer, I don't know how long I'll be able to keep it running because I'm actually not sure of its real age (it was a gift), and I don't know enough about keeping drivers and virus-software up to date.
So there's a big gamble. I would probably be better off just buying a whole new tower and software/hardware with warranties and tech-support and all that.

On the other hand, if I get an Xbox, I'll have to get a newer tv to go with it, or it just won't be worth it (no point in playing games so blurry you can't see what's going on)...
Then there's the dilemma of loosing access to my PC-only games, like Dreamfall, City of Heroes, and Champions (for now at least).

Gah.

I'll have to consult with my brother before I make any final choice...

Can't post any details about my experience over at Activision as a gametester, but I can say that it was an awesome experience. If you want to know more, ask me about it IRL.

Also got a new car thanks to that "Cash for Clunkers" government thing, and the very clever negotiations of my Dad. Her name's Alice; a little red Pontiac G3. I may or may not upload photos of her to my scraps later.


So anyways, now it's back to the grinding stone which is Ringling College.
First week of classes almost through, and I keep having to remind myself not to freak out over all the anticipated work ahead.

Note to Self: Things'll happen when they happen, as they're meant to happen, and there's no point in stressing out about it. Remember that.

I am happy to announce that after weeks and weeks of job-hunting, I finally got one! And it's not just some sales or restaurant job, like I was worried I'd have to take... nope... I actually landed a spot as a game tester at Activision for the rest of the summer!
I start next Monday, and I am SO excited to see what working in a game-studio environment is really like. I hope my time at Ringling will have left me a bit more prepared than I would have been otherwise...

The only other thing I was worried about before I got the job offer was transportation, which leads me to my other bit of good news: I got my very first car today!!
It's a junker - a cute little red '91 Civic, that we got for under 2k. It could use some new breaks, but it runs great and should serve me well for the next couple years.

That's really all the update I have for now.
As soon as I actually start at Activision, I probably won't be able to talk about the games I'm testing (contract of silence, and whatnot), but I'll try to update what I can, when I can.

I wanted to donate blood today (there was a blood-drive bus on campus today), and you're supposed to avoid caffeine and calcium 48 hours before you donate. Supposedly those things inhibit the absorption of iron in the blood, and you need at least 30% (but less than 50%) iron-count to donate.
I was still too low to donate again
but that's not the point.

The point is that over the last 2 days when I avoided caffeine, I started going through withdrawal. O_o
I've had a constant annoying headache since Monday night, and I hardly ever get headaches.

But then right after I came home from the blood-bus, I made a pot of coffee - and during that "ritual" of making coffee and the anticipation of drinking that coffee, my headache went away.

So there you have it - I'm addicted to coffee.
What I'm going to do about it yet, I'm not sure...

I remember Halloween was always my favorite holiday back in elementary school and middle school, and even some highschool. Always had pretty good memories of dressing up and trick-or-treating, but now it's been 3 years since I've even bothered to dress up.
Halloween's still my favorite holiday, but now it's more for the real spirit of the season, and especially the weather.

There's a dance over in the commons tonight, followed by a costume-contest. I don't have a costume... but I might go over just to see what other people have made - even though I hate parties.


Other than that, life updates:
- I have officially absentee-voted (I won't say who - unless you ask me in person)
- the final "game mod" project for Game Design is officially underway
- the "lip-sync" animation has begun for Traditional Animation
- we've started modeling in polygons for Computer Animation

Just got my mid-term grades back from my major-classes a few days ago, and I'm feeling pretty good about them.
Anywhere else folks probably wouldn't be too happy to get these grades... but from the hardass teachers here at Ringling, they're pretty all right.
Currently pulling C's and B's which would technically be B's and A's anywhere else.

I'm improving though, so there's a good sign...


In other news; I watched the first presidential debates on YouTube the other day... and I'm starting to kindof semi-partially side with McCain.
Still pretty sure I'm going to vote for Obama, but they both make some pretty good arguments. Gotta see how the next debate goes...

Spore.
That's right, Spore is really comin' out, finally.
September 7th. Get ready.
But don't uncross your fingers just yet
y'know... just in case...

You know why I'm so excited for these two games to come out?
It's not just the crazy-awesome graphics, or the open-ended gameplay. Nope.
It's the originality.
FINALLY two original games that AREN'T sequels to something.
All the great "new" games being produced lately have just been recycled ideas from old successes with some minor technological "update." Totally lame.

You guys know what I'm talking about, right?
Grand Theft Auto 4, Metal Gear Solid 4, Fable 2, Beautiful Katamari, eventually Assassin's Creed 2, and Bioshock 2, and there's even been talk of Portal 2... the list just goes on and on.

No doubt they'll be "upgrading" [Prototype] and Spore to franchise status, but for now they're fresh and one-of-a-kind.
Well... I guess I should correct that statement since they are releasing a creature-stage-only version of Spore for the Nintendo DS at the same time as the full-game. Heheh....

As some of you may know, today was my moving day.
I had totally wiped my schedule clean in order to totally clear out my room of everything I'm not bringing home with me on Wednesday.
Everything's in order, all packed and ready to go.
Hired a very friendly gentleman to help me move my stuff into storage.
We got the first load in with my stupid bike and a few boxes of nick-knacks.
Then when we finally get down to the storage place, wouldn't you know it,
They close at 1pm on Saturdays.
Just my luck, eh?

Well, we got there and the guy was just locking up,
so I was able to get him to stay just the little bit longer and me and my helper got that first-batch moved in. At least that's a little less to worry about...
Sunday the place is closed too, so that totally sucks.
Can't make it back Monday, so Tuesday's my last shot.
Cutting it a little too close for my comfort...
Tuesday evening is going to be a madhouse over here.

So, anyway, after we left the storage-place, we made a stop at the nearby post office so I could ship a couple packages home.
Stupid freaking place closed at 12.
Gawd, do I hate the United States Postal Service.
Seriously, it freakin' sucks.
Never open more than absolutely necessary... lazy bastards.
So now I've got to mail these packages on Monday or Tuesday as well... *sigh*

Almost two weeks ago I forgot my 2G-flash drive in the library computer lab. When I finally realized it was missing (two freakin' days later), the drive was LONG gone.
I had back-ups of everything on the drive elsewhere, but still...
it was a really nice flash drive...

I put up signs in the lab I lost it in,
pleading to the morality of whoever took it to turn it in to the campus lost-and-found.

I didn't really think I'd ever see it again, but for some reason I kept checking in the lost-and-found every day for it.

And you know what?
Someone found it!
They found it and returned it!!

I got my flash-drive back and all the files are totally in tact.

I'm so happy right now

2) When I accept your request, please send the agreed payment to the paypal or street address I give you. I do not work until I receive at least half the agreed amount. As soon as payment is confirmed, I will begin your drawing.

Preferred Currency is USA DOLLARS.

3) Completion time will vary, depending heavily on my schedule IRL. I will give you a time-estimate in my reply to your request.

4) As soon as I finish your commission, I will send it to you via email. If I was not paid in full, I will send you a watermarked version, until the rest of the agreed payment is received.

Most artwork I offer is digital, but if you would like a hard-copy, I can send you a signed print for an extra printing and shipping/handling fee.

I think I'm fine for the last projects in all my classes,
but what I'm really freaking out about is moving-day. >_<

I've got all this junk, and I've got to find a friend (with a car) willing to help me move it from here to the storage-place my dad found.
Not only that, but I've got to pack it all up, figure out what I don't need, and send that junk home.
This totally sucks.
I hate moving...

I need to try harder to find a place off-campus but nearby to stay next year. The dorms totally suck (and are way overpriced).

And it wasn't just one.
Oh no...
Two all-nighters, pulled back to back.

Wednesday was working on a painting project thing for "Observational Color" from 5 in the afternoon until 7:30 in the morning. Got the thing done, finally, and it looked fine for the critique on Thursday. I kindof like it... I'll upload it sometime if it fits in the scanner, or I feel like taking a photo of it.

Then yesterday, after that damn 3-hour critique, I was painting again for a project for "Communication Design." Was working on the two pieces from 7pm until 7am. Ridiculous.
You can't "rush" painting without making it look like crap either -- that's what took so long. You'll see what I mean when I upload them too.
And it's not like I'd been procrastinating the things either -- they were just both due at really inopportune times.... consecutively.

Gawd, I think I might have arthritis now, or pinched a nerve, or something. There's a pain in my hand that's just not going away!

I don't understand how I can possibly feel as awake as I do right now.
I'm gonna go ahead and chalk it up to the Red Bull I had this afternoon before class...
my gosh, those things are potent
and not so awful tasting that I would consider using it again sometime if the need so arises...
(first time drinking a Red Bull energy drink too, wouldn't you know it)


Well, I think my sacrifice payed off anyway...
My professors seemed impressed.

My anal-perfectionist prof. for O.C. didn't have anything real negative to say about my craftsmanship, or design, or presentation, or anything ~ so that was good.

The reaction from my C.D. prof. was,
(and I quote)
"Holy Crap!"

that made my day, right there.






This weekend I'll be finishing my bouncing-ball animations so I can do the "Take" on Monday during class.

but now I sleep.

I just finished this game called Dreamfall and
whoa
this game totally blows my mind
not so much in graphics (although they're pretty okay)
