Yesterday my car was totaled (1996 Ford Taurus). I was in an accident. I almost died due to a very stupid mistake.

I had a bad day. I'm working freelance right now for spare money till I get a job offer. I was working all morning, and at 2 pm I needed to drive out way south to bring Jason his lunch. This was my fault to begin with, we woke up late and to spare us the time of dealing with me packing him a lunch we just rushed. It sucked, because the next day he was leaving for Scotland... He's gone now for a week. Well, I rushed home and got here at about 4 pm, and I had previously promised his sister I would make a banner for her stand for Vegan Outreach at the 2008 Progressive Agenda... So I got to work. Jason had cat scratch fever... and he was feeling very very ill. (God damn Krr sometimes.) He asked me to pick him up early, like 5 o'clock instead of 5:30 (It takes 45 minutes or more to drive there during rush hour). I was freaking out, and finished the banner at 5:56. I packed up, rushed out, and wanted to save him from his head throbey torment. His flight would be leaving very early, so in order to spend time with him before we needed to sleep time was crucial.

I got out there, got him around 6:30 and drove back. I needed him to direct me to the building his sister was in but the poor thing was just passing out, and felt like he was going to vomit. So, I dropped him off at the house, laid him to rest with some water and set out to hopefully quickly leave the banner with his sister so I could return and have a nice night with him before he left.

Still moving cause of a psycho landlord-- I should be stable around the 1-2nd week of august. Found my tablet (For those of you who I spoke to about it possibly being stolen by crazy landlord, do a big whoopee for me) and it was in the rubble of my current stay in.

OKay, first off so you all know, Ciaras( ) having her contest! It ends tonight but some of you can still manage to whip together a good entry to submit. I'm really sure she'd love it no matter what.

But, thats not all I wanted to talk to you guys about. Honestly. Lets have a serious... serious conversation here on models of contests. Both good, and bad. I'm not doint this to offend anyone, but I am going to use my own experiences, and I think... a lot of you, like me, sell your artwork for money. Of course, commisions are wonderful, tedious, but wonderful. Every so often, people have contests. (McKaela, Zexnon, Ciara) for example. So, we can use them as mu examples through this all. I know contests have large sums of money available (usually) that really work on an artists need to feed themselves. After all a 50-100 sum of money sure beats that 20 you made for that port you spent 6 hours on, right? But there are some thing you, as an artists, should weigh out before you enter. Seriously. Because what seemed like fun, could end up monsterous, and end up ripping a hole in your pocket, let alone heart. So, folks, lets weight out some common question you should ask yourself before joining a contest.

1. Can I trust this person?
This should be a major idea everyone takes into count. Sometimes people hold big contests, and in the end, Never. Pay. Their. Winners. this is a sad account, because like I said before. Potraits can take people anywhere form an hour to 10+ depending on skill level and ammount of detail. Can you imagine working ten hours, getting first prize... and never seeing it? Being an artists who supports themselves THROUGH artwork, I can say.. when you know you've won... usually, you make a reaosn you need that money. 'This hundred could help me tword my rent!/ Cellphone bill!/ Feeding myself!/ Feeding my animal companions!" and then I have a dependancy to get-that-money. If it never shows up... Who gets hurt here?


3.WHO WILL BE JUDGING???!
Okay. For one. Never. Never. never join a contest judged by the contest owner alone. Do not. Not to offend, because I can say that I'm sure this has happened in many other instances, like I feed kee-... lets say moomoo's contest was. It was rated very poorly. With biased opinions. If a contest owners boyfriend or best friend joins, and someone with talent joins, who do you think she'd less liek to offend in time of a contest? her boyfirend/bestfriend of course. Looking back on that particular contest.. the first-place winners entry.. was really.. really.. horrendus. and.. her boyfriend? Doesn't that seem a little odd? I remember seeing an entry by lets call... her.. Porcelain Sea, that though was rated R, blew that entry out of the water! Contests you join should be fair, or as fair as possible. and based on the quality and work you put into your entry. And not your friendship or alligence to a friend. (I hope this makes sense, i'm all hopped up on sudafed)

3. Is this deadline stable?
Deadlines are a major part of any contest. They tell you when the fuck to get your shit done!! If you work your ASS off to make it to a three month deadline, and it gets extended another month for people? Thats allows other people to veiw, and base their submissions off yours. it also allows them to improve their quality to supass yours. Which ruins the whole ideas of 'surpprise look who all entered in the end" which usually shows a lot more diversity in submissions than an extended dealdine contest. I had a recent contest i entered and worked very hard on. You'll know who if you look up my submission assface, which I wrote out of anger and spite. I worked hard, the contest was extended a month. I waited. Another month. Unfair, because these were extensions for more artowkr, and lazy people who needed 5 months to complete a drawing and not three :/ and then finally, another week in the end for people who had 7 months and only made sketches. It's really unfair. And if you can't trust the perosn, if you complain about the unfair situation, they'll cast you out of their contest and refuse to pay for the work put into their submission. So who loses here in the end? The person who's having the contest getting tons of art by slow lazy people? xP or the perosn who did the hard work, depended on the money, and got cast out after waiting 7 months for complaining and making a logical statement? Think about it.

4. Is this worth my time/DO I have time for this?

also. I'm concidering selling some of my alts. I put a 'lot' of time into some of my alts... and all have 1-2 ports on them and like.. pre done character art.

Uvu, and Lippenrot. Is anyone interested? I don't play furc. So if someone wants to play them I mean.. it's better than letting them rot. If you're interested in one... note me or something. Uvu has tri wings, I think, a character sheet, character art, and a portrait. Lippen has two ports like, 6+ character art, a website, and I think her wings expired.
