oh little baby stella, daughter of brett and louise barnes. brett is the cool guy who does all the audio and sound mixing for our promos at work and this was a little favour to him and louise, his wife. keeping in mind theyre musicians and hippies, you know they can be so much fun and incredibly friendly.

it started out easy enough, and i came to terms very quickly of how quickly little babies move, get hungry, vom , fall over and drool, and how hard it is to make them smile, move , look and even in some cases stay awake.

i was hoping to shoot with entirely natural lighting, but the cloudy day didnt play fair and had to use my one studio flash, and also made me realise i should in future bring too.

all in all, the shoot was a success and i really enjoyed doing it. i learnt so so much and one day in the future , stella will be gracing my portfolio again, but only onces she's old enough to sit-up on her own.

So, Its been over a month since my last journal.

And what a month that has been !

I cant even explain to you how busy its been and how much Ive missed you all.
Ive come to the realization that I HAVE TO get an internet connection at home.
So if your South African and have any recommendations, please let me know. :)

So, in my usual fashion. Ill give you a blast of whats happened.

Canon 7D and Studio

I have bought myself a Canon 7D. My work deals with animation and broadcast and this will help with that greatly. Once I can get people to "act" / "pose" for me then youll be seeing a lot more film work from me.

Also, I have usage of the studio at work, but I will be gaining another studio spot too... Which Ill mention shortly. :)
Moving Out

If all goes to plan, I will be moving BACK into the house I grew up in , here in Johannesburg. We moved about 3 years ago into a new house and rented out our previous one to make a little cash. Were quite a broke family. Its a beautiful BIG 4 Bedroom house, with garden you can fit like 20 cars in. The estate agent said, when we first moved in there in 1995 ( I was 8. Lol ) that it was a killer house. :)

I will probably be moving in there with a guy my dad works with and split the rent and we will have a 4 bedroom house to live in.

However I am going to say this, a few of you that Ive known for a while now, are also looking for a place to live. If you want, contact me and maybe we can chat and if alls cool , you can move in too. I will be turning the lounge into a collapsible studio, and the one room will be a study with my computer and stuff.

So if your keen, note me. :)

Ive done one or two more shoots, including a baby shoot. So lil baby Stella will be gracing my gallery soon. But I have so many images to go through and upload but, I just cant get around to them. Im trying to organize all my photography images so I can get to them easier but... yeah.

The Logolessness

Im trying to get my "business" off the ground , that being Kreation , but In having one big problem, thats apparently quite common.

I CANT DESIGN MY OWN LOGO !!

Its killing me !!

I need a logo and watermark thing for my work ,but I change it so often, and never happy with my own work. So if someone wants to be so uber uber sweet and help me out, there might be a little reward in it for you. ^_^

I just find myself in a good mood ! Im enjoying helping people out and trying to meet more people in the new year, get some cool friends and stuff.

Like, whenever I have a cool idea for a photo, I have go out and try find some model, who most of the time is a lil skeptical as most of them just want pictures that make them look hot. Not for art. Not for concept.

Location : Brother in laws family lodge out , North of Pretoria.



I took these shots ages ago during my brother-in-law's bachelor party, and it was the 1st day I had gotten my 50mm f1.8 lens ( which eventually fell down a cliff and survived ). These shots were taken back then but I didnt work on them for lack of reason or meaning.


However I decided to work on it recently as they had a feeling for me, yet I couldnt place it. So, I just did what I felt. Ive been having mixed feelings.

but my mind is getting out of the despair now and into hope. I didnt know what to do and that complete loss of ... all that is me. So, with that low, I almost lost my mind and that lead to me stop thinking, stop caring and do the things i missed most in my life. which in a round about way lead to my happiness now. it lead to me being really happy and now im just going on and beginning to enjoy my life again.

moral of the story


when you feel like you have nothing left to do, your at your end. your wanting just one part of your life to be going right that you can lean on, that you can say ,"im doing a great job with [whatever]." when your at that point, stop worrying, stop thinking, almost stop caring, and do what makes you you. re-inspire yourself, dont visit friends and hide from it, go out and enjoy something you love.

The cycle spins faster each time.


So, heres a very quick re-cap of whats going on in my life.
Ive decided to do a monthly recap instead of bugging you all , all the time with my emo-then-happy-thenfuckinbrill-thenomgnoooes .
So the catch-up.



A week ago I broke up with my boyfriend.

Yeah, we broke up. He couldn't deal with my self-esteem issues and wasnt happy with the amount of time we spent seeing each other. (Too much apparently). So I respect his choice and thats that, theres nothing more to say really. Hes still a great guy and I respect and care for him so much but things will just be on a friendship level.


It has however broken me down to the core so, erh. In time Ill be feeling better but one thing I know is true. For the foreseeable future ,Ive given up on the chance of finding love. Im going to neglect that badly and focus on everything else in my life and if something comes along, hopefully It will last and the person will put the effort in to make it work.



I won a "Silver Muse Award" for my "Godfather II Promo"


Theres an awards event called Promax/BDA which happens every year for all the people involved in the broadcast, design, print and animation worlds , including categories for copywriting and promos. Orijin this year did the graphics for it too which was pretty awesome, even if I didnt have any part of that.


Anyway, so I went there not expecting any of my work to be entered and surprisingly the Godfather II promo was entered and came in 2nd in the "Best Sponsored Spot" category. Sadly it doesnt say my name on it , says Orijin.


However, I dont care. Its so cool to win SOMETHING for my less-than-one-year work here at Orijin so I was pretty chuffed. :D



My Berry is Black

I own a Blackberry Curve 8250 now. And it rocks. Those of you who are already on my GTalk, MSN or Yahoo lists know that I am much more connected now and with that Im saying to all of you who have those things. Add me and we can chat !


However the phone itself works amazingly well, I get my emails on the go and even though it doesnt have 3G, its amazingly fast and for the price I pay per month, its amazingly affordable. I love it :heart:

I have a man.


Yup, I am no longer single, I have a very sweet and caring boyfriend.


Were taking things slow and doing things right and Im really happy with him. Ya gotta love how life surprises you sometimes, with a gift you didnt know you had received until that one lil trigger in your brain is pulled by the smallest of things.



I have new equipment.


I havent yet uploaded anything that used them yet but.. I got myself some new equipment recently. A portable flash kit. 2x Cactus KF36 Full Manual Adjustable Flash's. If you want to see what the whole kit was , goto my website, [link] , and click on equipment. I wont go into details about it but what it means is, my location photography will be uber times better.

I cant wait to shoot with them and just thought Id let you into what shoots Im doing soon. Heres two images to show you what movies Ill be covering.

My-Ex 21st Birthday


So tomorrow is officially the day I leave 21st-dom and ripen to the age of 22. Scary thought that but not really. I got my birthday present early from my parents. I was a lil bit of cash, which was really sweet of them as I just spent a lot of money on some equipment.



A while ago, I got my full studio kit. Fantastic cool amazing. Wait...


I didnt really have a space for it, at all. So, thusly you didnt see to many shoots with my studio lights.


However, For my birthday, I said screw it. Ive been saving cash for no apparent reason aside from my moving out fund. I havent gone out in ages. Seriously. Its like hermit V2.

So, I bought myself a 23" Full HD widescreen monitor to plug into my laptop for when Im editing pictures. Also bought myself a GPS since pretty soon, Ill be much more active and driving a lot more. Because.*drumroll* I also bought myself a portable flash kit from America. 2x portable flashes along with 8 color gels and transmitters and recievers and light modifiers galore, with a hand strap for the camera and flash adapter thingie to fit onto my stands.


Portablity FTW.


So I am broke and awaiting my package which will be here 15 days.


But the best news is that thanks to work, I will have a studio space !

Ironically enough, Tomorrow being my birthday. I was asked to take a series of photographs for a promo were doing for Breast-Cancer Awareness. Which I thought was pretty cool that I would be doing something I loved on my birthday for work. Fan-fecking-tastic. So, Ill be able to use my kit properly for the 1st time ever. Yay !


In exchange of my photographic services,which will be used whenever ORIJIN wants.


So all in all , I think this will be the birthday where Ive been the most happiest.



I hope to believe that this will be the next chapter in my life and want to thank you all for being a part of my story so far. The support that all my friends and watchers give me on my work is what got me here in the first place. My dream to become a designer came from deviantART as did my photography. And through all the pain of my exes, my life and whatnot. Youve all be there for me. Helping me grow as a person. Even if you just say ,"I liek ur wurk." , its meant a lot to me and the support has really gotten me through a lot of pain. Saturday , 22 August 09,



I did my shoot with Carla a lovely french-styled guesthouse and it really made the world of difference. After a shake start and us buying some eye shadow which I now own ( my inner drag queen would've been filled with glee but sadly, she/he doesnt exsist. :) ). The owner wasnt there, so she told her daughter to open up for us and we proceeded to get set-up in one of the two rooms we were allowed to use. Carla did her own make-up and hair and did a great job at that.



Two looks turned into four, and thusly there is now four series on the way. This has to be some of my best work and I learnt so much from the experience its uncanny. ( Like how chunky jam looks a lot like blood and gore. Oh dear. ). It made me learn so much and I am happy with the results. I hope I did Carla proud.



I would like to thank Cathy and Ron for the Venue too.


Please tell me which series you want first too, as Im indecisive as all hell today, and have over 100 favourites. :P

ModelBASE Feature

So today, I was busy at work, trying not to kill or anything, animating a cool retro DOS-like promo. Time for a break and finish editing a picture , My Late Valentine.


Its upload time. The lady who gave it to me has been so sweet and kind to me and keeps mentioning how she would kill to learn from me and asked me to edit some pictures for her from a shoot she did.



So anyway I finish the picture and log onto ModelBASE, which for those of you who dont know is a place where models and photographers and make-up-artists chat online and get together for shoots and whatnot here in South Africa. Its like ModelMayhem except South African.

Greatest Of Thank You's

I would like to thank and prop these two talented photographers for a very serious and sincere reason


We all lost contact a few months ago, and as our lives progressed we kept in contact here and there but nothing serious. However recently we got back in touch with each other and lo-and-behold, it was just like old times. It was really great to see them and both of their work has improved so much. Please check em out, you wont be disappointed. /p>

However the main reason for this was to thank them.


They contributed to the charity-initiative two backdrops for the studio shoots. This is a HUUGE boon for me, and Itll allow for so much more chance to do more shoots and more donated to the initiative. Which by the way, my friend has left. So, Its just me for now, till I find some people interested in joining.



So do yourselves a favour and check them out. Seriously, its worth it !



The Sister and Brother In Law

On the 1st of August, its was my amazing sister's wedding, Erin.


Not being one to be one of the norm and also a passionate rocker, along with her now husband, Martin, who's a sound engineer who works on a lot of National Geographic shows, they decided to do the wedding in the best way they knew how and also for the reason they started speaking in the first place.


Music.



It was a rock wedding, with the most beautiful and elegant twist.
Imagine everything being pure white, pale goldish beige, and pitch black.



She was a beauty to behold and in all honesty, I cried a bit as it was just so amazingly beautiful.


So, naturally ,I took many shots during the wedding. There were the official photographers there, but I was able to sneak a few shots around them.



I wish you both the most amazing time of your lives, and hope that you live to the lyrics of your first waltz song :

Emperium



Band : Emperium


Location : Underground Parking Lot




Due to some unforeseen reasons ,
~lordfruitecake wasnt able to assist me for the shoot as planned and from that point I knew it was going to be a bit of a rough shoot , considering that the people didnt want to print my business cards as their graphic designer was resting.
Not a good start.



However ,
Black Death Metal bands are so friendly. :)
They were all so cool and werent all psycho rip your heads off and the shoot slowly got back on track leading to some amazing shots.



The ISO for this shoot was always pretty high on purpose ( I had my flash diffuser and reflector ready and in use too ). The grainy feel I think gives it a much harder, dirtier look and the shots which came out... werent my best but I was happy nevertheless. :)



Best part was to see Bradley , the guy who organised the shoot , since we last saw each other in Matric ( final year of highschool ). He hasnt changed at all , cept for the black hair, but its amazing that the two outcasts ( Heavy Metal Head and Art Fag Rocker ) are the ones doing well.



Regardless , heres some of the shots, which I hope came out alright.

It can be such a roller coaster ride, its not even funny.
It seems to just twist and twirl till it loops into itself and crashes.


As you all know , Ive been going through a rough patch as of late which , hasn't actually been stopping.

Yesterday, my huge big fuzzy bear of a Rottweiler passed away.
He had to get put down due to his back legs becoming paralyzed due to a common problem in big dogs : High impact on the spine.
Long story short, his vertebrae became compacted together due to him jumping down steps and falling down and whatnot and it caused pinching of his nerves.
Surgery couldn't fix it , and for a dog his size, not being able to move is... pure torment.

...It was in his best interest, we say to ourselves but.. the selfish parts of us , want our bear back...



This along with all this hell made me realize , I needed change.

Deleted all the messages off my phone. ( Took 40 minutes to do , and that's when I say "delete all messages" and wait. )
Deleted all my Facebook Messages ( When it hit 666 , I realized , things arnt boding well for me. )
Facebook and DeviantART friend cull.
Removing myself from the dating websites. ( So my Friday nights are going to be even more alone. *growl* )
Reworking my website. ( Where no-one goes to. )
Going to be uploading work onto Youtube ( all my animation work )

When Orijin Meets Kreation

So people ,
Finally after a kak long time , a bit of good news has come my way.

I got an internship at a small company called Orijin , which has only been in Johannesburg ( our fair city ) for a year.

They have just come back from an awards ceremony ( last week ) and they won four awards and its the first time they have entered.
They being around 5 people in total.

And now , Im the intern.
So yeah !

*is very happy*

No pay but if I do well , they'll hire me as a Production Assistant.
How cool is that ?

Its been different , so far ( 1st day :D ) , made lil 3D buildings and yeah.

Awesome bunch of people and so talented I mean , OMG.
Its so awesome , Im really excited.

So lets all hope for the best , please.

How ironic is it that theyre called Orijin and my website is Kreation ?
