I am still working on new artwork. I am sorry it is taking so long. I had sketched a few pieces all of last week and am just now preparing to color them. If I push myself I 'may' finish one today, but probably not.

In any case, I wanted to warn you as I will be uploading a lot of photos. I hate to flood folks recent deviations updates, so I will try and only post the best ones.

Then, last night I woke up around 3am with another idea that is out of my norm and yet another one this morning. I know my style is usually very solid and cute, but this new drawing habit (it seems) is more loose and dark. I will not say evil as to me, they are still cute in their own little ways. I also have a feeling that much of my art will be pin-ups.

Something along the lines of character sheets I guess you could say . . . but not. I hope to have some new art uploaded by the weekend. I need to sketch these other ideas and then I will start inking them. Do you all want to see the line art at all, or make it a surprise?

- No CG work . . . none.
- Traditional media only
- size 11 X 14, nothing smaller
- 1-2 finished pieces per week
- use watercolors and or colored pencil
- no pin-ups (background can be abstract or surreal but not blank)
- actually work on shadows . . . no flat coloring
- tell a story. If there is no movement or emotion in the piece, it is to be scrapped


A few of the odd rules:

- unless it is an existing character when references are needed, no sources are to be used. Work from my mind and not a photo as I generally get upset when it does not look the same.
- no blank inked borders . . . this was common practice with me a few years ago
- if the coloring does not work out right, I cannot scrap it. I must press forward and see if I can fix the problem or work around it
- Learn something. I need to teach myself something . . . do something I either am not used to or that I have never done before.
- Fractals do not count toward the 1-2 pieces a week, it must be drawn by hand.

Yup . . . interesting huh? Let's see how I do.

We did other things as well, such as walks. However, my heaviest drawing periods were before 2004. I would just sit down, not care how the anatomy looked and just throw something on paper.

Oddly enough, those pieces are still my favorites and it would seem they were also my most popular. It was because it was something from my own mind, emotions and dreams. I honestly hate using sources. I know it is supposed to help in the long run, but it makes me feel caged in. I end up comparing my work to a photo and in most cases, I give up before the piece is finished.

Sooo, I have a challenge for myself. There are a few pieces I am going to be doing for myself first, but to keep me going, I would like some other ideas. It could be your own character or anything you like. Please note however that I do not do anthros or humans. I also will not draw certain scenes.

I am very weak on backgrounds, so in most cases, these ideas will be pin-ups unless I get some amazing ideas. So, have at it! Please note, posting a reply does not guarantee any art from me. I will look at the suggestions and take on what I see fit. Please do not take this personally. I am only doing this to try and get back into art.

Now there is a new copy cat whom I found this morning. They actually take her own designs, edit them a little bit, add their own color and say it is their own. This pisses me off to no end! Can people not be creative on their own any more? Do they need to mimic just to be popular? Surely others see the copycats as well.

I know that there are many artists out there that do artwork based off of the style of the lion king. However, I do not see that as big of a deal as I see this. I am not sure why, maybe because it is a more personal style?

This is why I hate the idea of putting my art online, especially on DA. I've been stolen from before. I had one of my pieces used on neopets and I have had someone steal Kyva from my gallery, even though I express that she is my own and cannot be used by someone else.

I did an amazing sketch this morning, very different from my norm. I feel that it will draw a lot of attention, but then I worry about damn copy cats that cannot see to think on their own two feet. What the hell?! You call yourself an artist?

While I am waiting for the move in date, I have been actually drawing. Nothing to be proud of yet, as I have not drawn in quite some time. However, I am getting my ideas down on paper, which really helps. I am hoping to become more active on DA and work more on my art once we finish moving. I will have a lot of time to spend on drawing and painting, so I plan to put myself to work.

I must admit however that much of my artwork anymore has become somewhat dark. I am going to try and make it happier before placing anything on DA, but I do not think that is up to me. I draw from my emotions, so I do not think I will have happy illustrations until after the move and if I can find a job locally.

By the time I figure out what it is I want to do, I am so worn out that I end up doing nothing at all. I have been feeling like this for the past week and I have no clue how to get out of it. I would love to paint with encaustics, but I have no masking tape. I would love to make soap, but cannot use the kitchen until tonight. I want to do a large painting with acrylics and watercolors, but have no canvas. I want to order prints of my fractals, but am not sure what sizes to order . . . you see a trend here?

Yeah, me too.

I hate having so much passion, so many ideas that I cannot possibly make up my mind and end up with nothing at the end of the day. Maybe I should get everything out and just have at it to see what happens . . .

While I love apophysis to pieces, it is a controlled chaos. While I can make pretty, sparkelie, shinies for you, they are not exactly what I see in my head. I also cannot sketch my ideas out on paper before I start working on a piece. For me, I open the program and wait for something to pop up for me.

The other evening I looked at over 1000 different possible flames to work with, but none of them caught my eye.

One day I want to get ultra fractal, when I have the funds to spend. I have played with it and have a small understanding of how it works. It would just be a nice toy to play with.

I was going to throw them away . . but they had good memories and so I put them off to the side.

Well, I was down there this morning, prepping my area to do some abstract pieces and I glanced over at where the old pieces were gathered. "They are not done yet .. i never finished them" I thought to myself. And so, taking one of the 18 X 24 pieces, I went to work gluing the canvas back into place.

Once the glue has dried, I plan on re-working these older pieces. They are also pieces of work that were done for me and so I never posted them online.

I will update once I re-work one of them.

Concering wax paintings:

I got some post cards and cards earlier today. I also have my new waxes, iron and stylis tools. I am all set to work on my artwork. However . . . with the size that the cards are, even scanning them into the computer will leave not such nice results if used as a format for prints later on down the line.

So here is the question. If I did encaustic art on cards . . . you think the market would buy them? I was thinking of selling one card for $5 and four for $15. Why this price? The cost of materials and my time and also due to the fact that it is an original piece of art. These cards are not something you would send to someone for a holiday or birthday . . rather they are something to matte, frame or cherish in some other way.

I was thinking I could do "an encaustic a day" thing and at times, I could even do themes that would involve 3+ cards. These of course I might matte and frame myself before selling them. However, you think this would float? Are my prices too high? Too low?

advise please?

Ok . . . so I found a disk with a lot of my old fractal flames on it right?

I'm looking through them, saving them all to the same file so I can find them when i need to and I come across a lot of incomplete fractals. Ones that hev just been waiting to get rendered. I remember about 2 years ago, I had to stop rendering my fractals because mum was blaming me for the high electric bill. These are the unborn fractals, ones that were so close to being seen . . only to be left in the dark.

I completely forgot about them and so now I am going through this disk with hundreds of unused flames on it. Needless to say . . . I have a problem.

I only have one machine to render all of these flames and I also want to re-render all of my old ones as well . . seeing that apophysis has all of these new gadgets and such. I would ask some of you to render some of the flames for me, but i render them at 2400 X 3200 pixles at 200 quality. Even on my new machine, some take over 15 hours to render. I render this large for my prints, both as DA as well as on imagekind.

So, what is my warning? I may . . just may revamp the DA gallery. If I don't, the ones that are remade will have significant chaanges and so you may end up seeing them in your updates box. Just a forewarning. I have a lot to do in a short span of time.

For now at least. I will be taking some time off and away from DA. Though I am working on a lot of artwork at this time . . none if it will be uploaded until my site is up and running.

The other exceptions to this rule aere gift arts and trades I am working on/should be working on. Though these pieces may take a while as well. I've just been too tired lately to sketch out anything. Hence why I am working on my abstract pieces a lot more. I let the brush tell me what it wants to do and I am ok with that.

When it comes to illustration . . one line out of place and I get really upset, to the point of where I've actually stopped art for over a year . . . yeah, i know, foolish. I've also torn artwork close to completion up because it was not right . . . instead of trying to work around it.

I've finally made up my mind. I have been dwaddling around the net for ages and have got close to nothing done. I am a writer, an artist, a poet and an unhappy worker. I do not like where I work . . my passion is in my creativity. I am drawn to it and it is on my mind constantly.

I've held myself back, thinking it was not worth the time, money or effort on my part. I was hoping to just post on DA and hit the right mark . . have people come to me. That obviously is not happening and instead of sitting on my ass, I am going to do something about it. So, here is my to-do list:

1. Join a professional artist community (done)
2. Offer prints and strethed canvas of artwork (done)
3. Sign up for artshows and other activities in the area
4. Place an article in the newspaper or a magazine that covers my form of art
5. Make an offical website (for real this time) No more of this playing around.
6. Enchange links with other artists
7. Make it count

Though I do have a site . . . it is one that I am no longer happy with. Eclipticwing was made back when Dask and I were going to share a website. I need something that speaks to my viewers. It cannot be too long or too short . . and not just my name either. I need to make it presentable and organize it in sections. I do not want to make it confusing for my viewers. It should be user friendly and easy to navigate. I need to use meta tags for once and submit my site to search engines . . as I never did that before.

I need to stick to my guns . . do the form of art I am comfortable doing and not what I see the community going for. Every person has a certain interest, I've just been going about it all wrong. This does not mean DA is being dumped. I will still use the site . . . however, it will not be my main one for my works of art.

Each site I use I have used [link] as my website address. Why send viewers to a site that has pop-ups and paid advertisements? It's very unappealing and most times, people do not enjoy waiting for the whole page to load.

I need to do this . . I will do this. Dask has faith in me, Dr. Allendger knows I can do this . . mum told me "nothing ventured, nothing gained" lastnight. She told me to stay at my current job, but to work at my dreams first. Put them in the front of my mind. So, future, here I come. Please . . please accept me.

I know many of you have been awaiting my fractals again. I apologize for the overly long wait. Bad thing is . . I do not have a load of them to upload . . . I am at a road block. It's not like I am not trying .. just whatever apophysis shows me . . it's not fully to my liking. I will sit and tweak designs for hours on end . . but nothing turns out.

I will upload fractals when I have them as I am still working on them, among all my other forms of art. However, would it make the wait more bearable if I did traditional media abstract pieces? I can easily get these to look how I want and so it'd not be a problem. However, I am also trying to work on some new illustrations for the fun of it.

How do you know when to watermark you pieces . . . and when to slather them with a transparent name and date? I look on DA and I see a lot of artists over there who watermark over faces . . . and I'm talking huge watermarks . . . so you cannot see the lovely features. The face to me is the most important part of an image and to cover that up with a watemark that spans over half the page . . . I dunno.

I understand there are rping forums where people like to make icons and claim artwork by an artist as their own personal avatar. I understand this completely as in the past I have seen Kyva claimed by others.

Just because there is a huge-add watermark on a piece of work . . that does not mean it is safe. So many people have access to editing software . . even open canvas I think is a lot like photoshop anymore and they are always handing out freen trials. If I really wanted to . . I could take that image that's been murdered by a huge mark . . . crop it to what I like and either do one of the following . . .

1. Smudge the image so the watermark disappears (messy . . but plausable)
2. Color over the watermark itself
3. Trace over the image using mouse/tablet and color how you like

I do not mean to sound so msuge . . but it pisses me off. I like to see a whole image . . not just parts of it. Even if the © is set to a 30-50 percent transparency . . it's still taking away from the piece. Sorry if I like to full view images that intrigue me . . .

Yes . . I watermark my pieces. I have also marked them like this before and I just could not stand it. It is the internet . . work will get stolen, markings will be mirrored . . . and who knows who had them first. So this is my theory on how I © my work.

The work I post is offically mine once I post it . . even when I sketch it, it is © to me. If someone feels like taking my work . . . whatever. Yes, if I find it, I will confront them .. but the date on my submission to DA and to my LJ will be earlier than their own.

So while I will © my pieces in a not so . . . envasive way . . . I will not destory the piece I worked hours on and put my heart into by placing a huge-ass cloudy layer on top.

Ok, so I have been trying to take on a lot lately as my arting skills are seriously out of wack. And since not many peeps asked for art trades, i am trying other forms of artwork . . you know, besides personal things. I do have a lot of works planned . . but who knows how long it will take me to get past the planning stages. As for what is in the works . . here is a taste of what is to come:

Because everyone likes a little love. I am opening trades to anyone who wishes to trade with me. However, my part of the trade will be through art, as it is my stronger point at the moment. The subject will be and only will be Kyva. I do not want her standing on two legs and have huge breasts . . or casting magic or anything of that sort. She can either look cute or feral, it does not matter to me. However, self-injury images are not acceptable and if you have thoughts of such, keep them to yourself.

NOTE: Please give me some time to complete the piece as I am working and have other things I must tend to as well. I will try and color all the trades that I do . . though i cannot promise a background. It depends on my mood and the amount of detail that the character requires (spots, stripes, detailed feathers). However, I will always post a B&W version of the trade once I get it inked. That way if anything is amiss, you can let me know. I will not color the piece until I am given the Ok by the one whom I am trading with, as it would waste my time if the tradee was to change his/her mind.

Also keep in mind of my freedom of expression. I can place it in a pose, however I like. However, if the markings are not right, wings are too big/too small or such like that, those are things I would be able to change.

Ok . . not just yet, but soon. I need to make a ref sheet or at least a decent picture of Kyva before I can open up to trades, but I think I am ready. I am also going to take part in GAX when I can.

However, something I cannot stress enough . . . Kyva is a cat . . short and simple. I do not want her to be a gryphon, or a phoenix or anything of that sort. All other creations are of course fine by me . . . saev for the fact that she is not and cannot be anthro. She is a sentient being. capable of speech and emotion.

Errm, sorry . . kinda went off the edge for a moment there. Umm . .. not even sure why i am writing this at this time. Oh well, something to look forward to maybe?

Ok, I know it has been a long time and I apologize for my absence as well as that of my artwork and poetry. I have been taking therapy and promised myself I would focus on that and work as well as my healing more than anything else.

It has been over 6 months since I started therapy and now I can peacefully say that it is helping. Each session was a very, very small step and it has taken me a long while to see a difference in myself, even though those around me has been seeing it for a while.

I am more pleased and willing to try new things than I was before . . . willing to go out on my own and also accepting myself. So now, I must tell each of you this. There are going to be some changes . . . of which I will try to include you in.

It is kind of hard to explain, but i prmise to share it soon.

Why is it that when i open up apophysis before the end of the night (have about 30 minutes left before logging off) why is it at that time that apophysis decides to show me some awesome flames? Seriously . . . each night, before logging off, i open the program to load one of my flames that need to be rendered. This is due to the fact that quite a few take a few hours if not more than that to render, so it is time well used.
However, when i log on with very little time to tweak and play, why apophysis, why must you taunt me with more eye cadies???

For example, i only have 10 minutes left before logging off tonight . . I open up the program to render one of the pieces waiting in line and what happens?? The first flame . . the first random flame i see, I like. But, do i just stop there? NO! I figure, hell, if one looks good, there's bound to be more! So here I am, looking through 100 flames with 10 minutes left of my time . . . saving all the ones i can so I can work on them later.

Soo, if you ever wonder why i upload so many at one time, this is the reason!

Well, upon looking at my prints statistics page, I have two of my prints added to a wishlist thus far . . . soo squee and that sort of thing. There is hope nee??

Yeah, I know, not really much to say. it's almost 12:30pm here and have had a long day, just felt I needed to let you all know. Also, i am trying a new project, I hope to complete it before tomorrow night . . but we shall see. Been keeping it hush hush and only two people know what this "test" is . . . so yeah.

Whoo, we got prints now! Not all of them are available as I did not have the right size images to offer them as a prnt, however, I shall remedy that shortly. The prices were awefully high, so I did my best to tone them down. Basically each print will only net me between 50 cents to around 2 dollars. This is ok with me, but I shall tell you the reason why, if you feel they are still too highly priced.

Each print has a minimum cost, which is what DA takes from my sales to pay for supplies and materials needed and used in each print. Then, whatever amount I place above the minimum, I only will recieve half of it. They keep the other wages . . . so in reality you are generally paying 4 dollars over the minimum price for my prints . . . save for the ones that had a minimum under 1 dollar.

For example, the 16 X 20 inch canvas prints (available on a few of my prints) has a minimum of $55.14. They had the price of the selling cost upped to $132.00! I lookes at this, amazed at how high it was and almost chocked. So, being of sound mind and quite reasonable, I downed the price to 60 dollars, only 5 over the minimum selling rate.

So, i do hope you find my prices reasonable. I will be running a special closer to X-mas, where you can buy the prints from me, I purchase them from DA and send them to your house. Say, 5 8 X 10 prints, usualy over 50 dollars .. I would sell for about 30.00. This way, you save money and I make a higher rate as well. I just need to be sure I can get away with it. So watch on here after Halloween, that is when I will be doing my best to lower the prices, or make good deals. Hopefully a calendar too.

Ahh, finally got most of my fractals uploaded. I do realize that I am missing a few of my older pieces, ones such as "Kitsune Star" as well as "Center of the Sun" and "Woven Path." My reason for leaving these out is due to the low quality of the images. I will however, be uploading at a later date.

All that you see in the gallery currently are up for prints submissions. So please, keep an eye out as many will be available to order. Also keep in mind, prints and poster will not have a copyright on them, just the image itself. Much more to come, but I think I may take a short break, give you time to soak it all in

This is where I try to answer mot of the questions that you may have for me at this point. Should your question not be answered here, or you need me to add on to it, just note me and I shall do my best to get back to you whenever humanly possible.


Q. When did you stat making fractals?

I made my first fractal back in November of 2004. It was actually dated November 27th 2004 and entitled “Shattered.” It was not much, just a practice really, to see what I could get away with. I was so amazed by the thrill it delivered that I made another . . . and then another . . . and I continue to do so even now. Each fractal that I make and post in my gallery is another step I have taken, another small bit of information I have discovered.

Q. How did you learn about fractals?

It happened by chance. I was surfing the recent deviations over at Deviantart and stumbled across an abstract piece I found quite appealing. Just as I do with any art I like, I continued to browse through the artist’s gallery and then their favorites. That is when I first discovered Creativ82’s gallery. I was mystified by the works that I saw in his gallery and that is when I decided to try and make fractals of my own. So, that same day, I downloaded Ultra Fractal which is the program that he used, as well as any other fractal program I could get my hands on; either for free or a small price.

Q. What programs do you use to make your fractals now?

While ultra fractal was more versatile in the way of layers and layer options, I could never fully bring myself to understand the program enough to enjoy it. I tried others and it was not long until I learned about Apophysis. I have been using this program ever sine. It offers me so many options and in a way that I can easily understand. Every now and again I dapple with UF, but have not made a piece worth showing as of yet.

Q. How long does a piece generally take you to complete?

Rendering times put aside, a piece can take me anywhere from 15 minutes to tweak the way I like it, to a few weeks. It all depends on if I am looking for a certain feeling, or waiting for one to come and find me. It’s a lot easier to open my mind and just let it happen, than to try and get a specific shape to work the way I’d like it to.

Q. Why fractals?

To be honest, I’m not big on math, but I have a greater love for pieces of abstract work. This covers paintings, vector images, sculptures, fractals and whatever else you can fit into that category . . . possibly even making things with your food. Fractals for me are just fast (generally) and easy for me to create. I like to do a piece of work when the mood strikes and most times, the time it takes me to get my paper and mix my paints, the feeling is gone. Using a program like photoshop for abstract images besides vectors also feel as though I am cheating myself in a way.

Q. What would you have to say to those just starting out with apophysis or any other fractal making program?

Do not let the presence of mathematical codes and numbers keep you from at least trying it out. While the numbers are used in every aspect of these amazing programs, they are transformed into an image to work with, making it a lot easier. You need a little understanding of the program itself, which is easy to do with the tutorials all over the net as well as communities you can join. Keep practicing and always try out new ideas, formulas, scripts or whatever else you can find. Most importantly, do it to enjoy and for yourself before anyone else.
