summer semester is in full swing. finished my web design class in 3 weeks. got an a-. i know. it's an a. but i'm not thrilled because it ruined by perfect 4.0. emailed the professor. asked if i could redo one of the websites i created that i hated. he said yes. trying to fix it as we speak. not. going. well. any web gurus out there?

taking another class (literacy) that will end next week. that one was a 6 week course. thank god.

working in financial aid as a grad assistant and i'll start my other summer job (summer kids program) which lasts a month at the end of july. need more money. need another job.

holy crap people. i never expected when i joined this site that i would ever get a dd let alone two!

i would like to thank ^2dazed for giving a dd. i would like to thank my mom for having me. i would like to thank my instructor of ceramics for making me do this project. and i would like to thank all the little people too.

in other news, classes are crazy. i'm taking a web design class normally designed for 12 weeks in 3 weeks. holy stressful. but i bet i'll learn a heck of a lot.

so please bear with me as i wade through all the comments and such.

Â So... my ceramics class is going well for the most part. I really do like it but I'm having a hell of a time making pinch pots. I honestly suck at ceramics. I told my professor the other day that if he wanted I could draw him a pot instead of making one out of clay. For some reason he didn't go for it.

Â I am currently working on my sketches for my next ceramics project. I have to draw 20 sketches by tomorrow night of a polymorph. I have to use an organic object - fruit, vegetable or nut and an inorganic object like a knife and put them together in an exaggerated kind of way. And I'm stuck. Big time. Any ideas for me people?

Â Just in case you're wondering, while I do have a button at the top of my journal that says website and while it does go to mindysantiago.com, I still haven't done anything with it. So don't yell at me. Kay?

Â My new MacBook arrived last week and I am loving it. It rocks. It really does. It has a silver aluminum body. It has 4 GB of ram and a 320 GB hard drive. It's pretty. I bought the speck satin case and a neoprene sleeve to protect it. It's my baby right now. I'm being extra careful.

Â Graduate classes also started last week and let me just say... CRAZY busy. I have so much reading and writing to do, it's r-i-d-i-c-u-l-o-u-s. But if I can make it through this semester, I think I'll be okay. I'm just feeling a bit overwhelmed right now.

Â AND! I am now a godmother and aunt to a beautiful baby girl named Sophia Ann. How exciting?!

Â Well hello my fellow deviants. I am well on my way to being an Art teacher. I quit my job on Monday and my last day will be January 23rd. I start my graduate classes as a full time student on January 26th. And if all goes according to plan, I'll be doing my student teaching during the winter of 2010 and I'll graduate in May of 2010! Phew, that's quite a plan I have in store. Wish me luck because I'm nervous as hell.

Â currently i'm working on two drawings and both are of dogs. one is for my father and the other is for a co-worker; both are christmas presents. i'll be posting them soon enough.

Â my first semester of graduate work begins next semester. i'm very nervous but also very happy to finally begin. i'll be taking a sculpture/ceramics class. i'm really excited because it's been a long since i've taken ANY art class let alone a sculpture class. i'm really looking forward to it.

My Ramblings

Â I'm working on a couple commissions. One is for a co-worker of mine who's son is in Iraq. He wanted to give his wife something different for her birthday. And decided to have me draw a photo of him in his fatigues. She doesn't know it but I'm doing it for free.

Â Hopefully I'll be meeting with an advisor at my graduate school next week so I can figure out what classes to start taking. I've made a big decision regarding going full time in January but I'm hoping to take 2 classes for the Fall term. I really want to get my masters quickly and going 2 classes each semester just isn't going to cut it. For those who don't know, I'm going back to school to get my masters in art education. I'll be teaching all the little ones all I know about art.

Â So this past Saturday I participated all day in the Syracuse New Times Street Painting Contest which coincided with the Syracuse Art Festival that was held all weekend. The weather for most of the day was beautiful until the rain began later in the afternoon. And while I didn't actually place in the competition, I really enjoyed being part of the contest. I love talking to art enthusiasts as they walked by and commented on my work. The rain began right before the award ceremony. And I then watched as my artwork was washed away by torrential down pour.

Â So... what a shock I had when I logged onto DA yesterday and looked at my message box. It had exploded. I thought to myself, "Well, the only way for that to happen is I either have a glitch or a DD". It was SOOO not a glitch, it was a DD! I couldn't believe it and I seriously almost passed out. I honestly never thought that little old me would get one. I'm absolutely thrilled. Thank you to the wonderful =Inqy for suggesting it and to the lovely ^oilsoaked for featuring it . And I must thank ~Tony-Guerrero again for allowing me to use his beautiful photo -> [link] . I really appreciate it and I'm absolutely thrilled. Â I'm a 28-year old soon to be grad student and a children's book illustrator wannabe.

Â I was born in Puerto Rico, raised in Connecticut and now live in Central NY with my husband Mike, my dog Gala and my beta fish Rojo.

Â I love to travel. I love to dance salsa and merengue.

Â I'm extremely self-conscious. I am a huge bookworm.

About My Art

Â I've always had a passion for art. I don't remember a time where I didn't like to draw.

Â I have a A.A.S in Graphic Illustration and a B.F.A in Fine Arts. This Fall I'm returning to school for a M.A.T in Art Education.

Â My life's ambition is to publish my own children's book.

Â As of right now, I make no money off doing art commissions nor do I work in an art field. This really is my fault due to the fact that I am horrible at marketing myself. I do however am open to doing commissions if the job suits me.

So...day after my birthday, had a car accident. Lady went through stop sign. Car is totaled. Now I have a new car. Jeep Liberty to be exact. Yesterday, I had two job offers. I took one. I start in March. 6 months until my wedding. Must find a new place to live. That's my life in a nutshell.

Ramblings...

I'm sorry for my lack of thank yous for favorites and adds and replies. And for my lack of comments on new deviations. I've been a bit busy at work and with the holidays I feel like my head is spinning. So I apologize for clearing them but I was a bit overwhelmed. I do appreciate them all. And I thank all of you for supporting me.

I still haven't done anything with my prints account. I feel as though I need better quality scans or photos of my work before I can sell prints of them.

I haven't picked up a pencil in quite awhile. I hope to tonight. I just need a mighty big push. I've been a bit disenchanted with the whole creating art thing. I really want to pursue some sort of career in art. But I feel like I've lost the drive to do so. Maybe it's just a block...

My apologies to everyone about my late responses to comments, favorites and watches. With work being so busy and the upcoming holidays, my DA time is limited. I seem to be caught up finally.

Unfortunately I have no new work to speak of. This depresses me. I need to start something. I need to do the Holiday contests for the clubs I'm in. Someone make me do it.

Obviously my CSS has not changed. Does anyone want to make me a nifty one? Pretty please?

I would like to do some paid commissions. I have a wedding to pay for and I think this would be a nice way to get some extra cash. So if anyone is interested, send an email my way.

Ramblings...

I didn't realize how much work goes into getting just one print ready to go. I'm a bit flustered on how to get the prints the right resolution and such so hopefully I'll figure it all out soon.

I'm also thinking about doing commissions, specifically for portraits but I'm open to anything. I need to make some extra money for my wedding. So if you or anyone you know is interested in paying a few bucks for a Santiago original , let me know.

I am currently working on some new CSS. I'm terrible at it but I really want to learn to do it myself. If you have any ideas or tips to share. Let me know. Anyone? Ideas? Something?

Artist Spotlight...

is a wonderful and beautiful artist from Australia. I've never actually met her but she's one of the few deviants I've come across on DA that I would love to meet. From her beautiful photos to her amazing paintings, this artist is totally multi-talented.

I have a bought a prints account finally. After talking to a few deviants, it came to my attention that there will be some improvements made to the print accounts. Here's the most important information that I gathered from it.

ALL registered accounts on deviantART will become standard print accounts. Everything that current print account holders have, will now be standard for everyone with a registered account on deviantART.

Premium print accounts, which will require an annual subscription fee, will have extended and more advanced features, priority in print approval and customer service queues, more control, more statistics, more features, and more more. NOTE: ALL *current* print account holders that paid for a print account will automatically have lifetime premium print accounts. The annual fee only applies to new subscriptions after the launch.

So I figure that the $24.99 that I pay for the print account is definitely worth it. So I am hoping in the next couple of days to have my first print ready to be sold.

Woe is me... I did not win the last contest I was waiting for. *sigh* It was to be expected, there were a lot of photos and digital art in this contest. My piece just didn't stand out enough. Oh well, there's always next time.

So I've applied for two jobs in the Syracuse area and hopefully I get hired for one of them. And then I'll be on my way to applying for grad school. I would prefer to go to Syracuse University for my masters because I'm not all that thrilled about commuting to Oswego. But like always money is an issue.

Ramblings...

I'm still working on my tuning my drawing abilities. I look at my gallery and I wonder how I can make everything mesh better. I'm not quite sure how to make it all look like my style. I seem to be all over the place with the mediums I use and the type of work I do. Any suggestions?

So my gallery as officially been cleaned out. I didn't delete very much but I did move a lot over to my scraps because some people did fav some of the work. All that I am focusing now on is my traditional artwork. No more taking photographs for me. Hopefully in time I'll improve but I do believe I have a lot of work ahead of me.

Get my Masters in Education so that I can teach art.

I've decided to focus on two goal instead of the four I had previously posted. I think these two goals are a bit more realistic. I feel I have a lot to work on before I can start selling prints or enter any artshows.

Ramblings...

I cleaned out my gallery and moved all my photos and some artwork over to my scraps. After getting kind of rejected from a club I wanted to be in, the administrator gave me some constructive criticism. He/she told me that my photos needed work because they looked a bit snapshotish. They also said I should stick to traditional art and try to make my work more connected. So in other words, they said I need to improve before I am accepted as a full member. Major blow to my ego but I have to agree with a lot of what this person said. So it's back to the drawing board for me... literally.

Works in progress...

All done! Most likely I'll be editing it again. I need a break from it in order to get an objective look at it. Hope you all like it.

All of you need to check out this AMAZING artist --> Kristy completely blows me out of the water. She is an HUGE inspiration for me. Everytime she submits a new deviation, she shows such improvement. Here are a couple of her works.

Another WONDERFUL artist --> Katarina blows my mind with her talent. At such a young age, she has already mastered more than I can ever imagine. Her patience astounds me. Here are a couple of her works.

I'm hoping to enter *Citizens-of-Ai's SMILE contest. I need to either work on this photo and submit the photo or actually draw this photo and submit the drawing into the contest. I have until September 18th. I better get working!

I am now done with the stipple drawing of Che Guevara for Mike! And I got it done today, our anniversary. Too bad I won't be seeing him today to give it to him.

I also plan on drawing this great photo. I've already gotten the permission from the photographer. I'm eager to start this drawing.

Syracuse Street Painting Sidewalk Art Contest

So yesterday was the Sidewalk Art Contest. Saturday I complained of and Sunday I complained of

Unbearable, sticky, hot, sweaty, dizzy, exhausted, lightheaded are just a few words that come to mind... I was in the direct sun the ENTIRE day which did not help by drawing...

As you can see, I'm not one of the winning pieces... sigh... I know I could have done much better. What's funny about the whole thing was the following...

1) Most of the winning pieces were done by contestants that were in the shade the ENTIRE time.

2) Some of judges REALLY shouldn't have been judges because they lacked the ability to judge properly.

A couple of squares down from me was a 13 year old girl (she was in the teen catergory, I was in the adult catergory) who, like me drew in the sun the entire day. Her brother was there to cheer her on. He (as a joke) drew in an empty square, a stick figure with a fried egg. He wrote on it, "It's hot" & "Sizzle"... That's it. Well, when a couple of the judges came by, they stopped at his picture and proceeded to mark it down, basically giving him a vote. He wasn't even entered in the contest and it took him 2 seconds to do. The mom of the little girl jumped up and said, "WAIT! That's not in the contest". The judges were upset as they walked away because they had wanted to vote for it. How absolutely crazy is that? I'm not saying I should have won but I saw a number of pieces that should have won.

No more complaining! Overall the contest was FUN and I can't wait to do it again next year in the shade and win!!!

Tomorrow I will be participating in the 16th annual Sidewalk Art Contest! How exciting, I get to draw on a sidewalk! Participants can enter the "Copy of a Master" category or they can enter their own work into the adult or teen category. I chose to do one of my own pieces.

The piece I plan on doing is a called "Searching Liberty"

I'll make sure to post how I did in the competition and photos as well.

Even if I don't win, it will still be a lot of fun because I get to spend the day doing what I most: Drawing and getting at the SAME time.

Woo Hoo! 1000 PAGEVIEWS!

I told myself that I would create my first journal entry once I surpassed 1000 pageviews. The day has finally arrived.

Thank you to all the wonderful deviants who've helped me along the way. I should've joined a LONG time ago. Now, my next goal 5000 pageviews.
