Well, Happy December everyone! Less than one month until Christmas!
I have almost all of my shopping done, I only have 2 classes left to teach at WCSU, one being tonight! Hoping my last couple of days go really well : )
It's a busy time of year. I had a fun shoot with Kevin Michael Reed in New York on Friday after visiting my grandmother- who kept guilt tripping me about not staying for dinner ( I wanted to beat traffic).
I also shot last Tuesday with Marc Mauro aka Questionmarc- He was a lot of fun to work with, great guy- LOVE the images so far. I'll definitely be visiting him again : )

In a couple weeks, things will calm down- I'll return to NYC with Chris to visit my Aunt V and perhaps see the tree all lit up- something I do enjoy doing even though its freezing. Shooting soon with my buddy Kvon: he is taking photos of Chris's heart surgery scar, and also some ballroom photos for Chris and my wedding. The office Xmas party is coming up as well. Lots to look forward too! Christmas eve is when my family celebrates and opens presents. I'm pleased that we will have a nice quiet Christmas, joined by Dennis Chunga (who Im trying to convince to go to Mohegan Sun for New Years EVE)- Come with us Dennis, you know you don't want to sit home!

On an irritated note, I'm still waiting on photos from a NY photographer. I shot on October 18th and have not seen ANYTHING. I've been very calm about it, but have emailed her a few times about sending me the images- she said she would send them ASAP- but of course, Nothing yet. I'm now going to put a stipulation that if part of the agreement is for photos to be given to me as well- they must arrive within a month unless other outside sources are involved. I've had this happen a few times, and I'm just tired of it. If I'm ready to work and on time and am using my own wardrobe ETC then I deserve to have my images at a reasonable time. It's been over a month now- and apparently there is nothing more to edit - its just lazyness. No excuse!

So, anyone doing anything fun for Xmas?

Sooo,

being super busy as per usual, I have piled a bunch of stuff on my plate for this week. My shoot with Questionmarc was postponed from Friday until tonight (I canceled class knowing my students wouldnt show up the night before vacation.) So in a few min, I have to leave my job to go to the Bronx. Then, working all day tomorrow, coming home, and cooking for Turkey Day- which is of course an all day event. Mr. Chunga is gracing my family with his presence as well.
Friday- Black Friday- I am going to NYC to both shoot and visit with my grandparents who live near the theater district. I'm shooting with Kevin Michael Reed who is working on a series featuring models and their tattoos, and as he is only a few blocks from my grandma's, I figured I'd stop by to visit them as well. Little brother might come, but he hasn't confirmed yet.
Then, the rest of the weekend I get to SLEEEEEEEEEPPPP- at least, that would be the plan....
Only 2 more classes left of the semester- I should def. check out what i have on my lesson plan as well....
Anyone doing anything crazy this week?

So this weekend I am shooting at the New England Air Museum! I'm so very excited about this shoot. I will get to play three characters. A stewardess, a very haughty rich passenger and Amelia. Not so excited right now about the Amelia one just because I think with the timing of the movie coming out, Im afraid that it will look like we were inspired by the movie, as well as the worry that now on Modelmayhem.com/ its very probable that many models will be doing the same thing. However, I will get to model with real vintage planes so it might make our image ahead of the game. They are allowing us into the actual planes, something that museum visitors are not typically allowed to do.
The shoot will be so much fun. The team is Ron Compton and Jessica Lynn Hill- the fabulous make up artist from the gallery images. Should be a great time, and a chance to see these really old planes up close!
Images to follow next week!!!!

So,
The fantastic news is that my fiance did not need the defibrulator! They went in through the artery in his thigh with some thick tube, and snaked it upward. From what I understand, they zapped is heart, played with different rhythms and discovered that for now, he is perfectly safe. I got to take him home Friday night. It was such a relief.

Now, let me take a moment to tell you how demented Yale hospital can be... I got up at 5:30am and drove my fiance for his 7am appointment. The first person we spoke to gave us the wrong floor, it was obvious he didn't feel like working and wanted to chat with his buddies in the empty waiting room. So right away, we were on the wrong floor. After they took him away for testing, I was informed that there were no waiting rooms where he was going, and that they'd call me in 2.5 hours to let me know how the test went, and if they were going to proceed with surgery. I found a quiet room and wrote out my lesson plan for my next class. After 3.5 hours, no one had called me- so I ran around the hospital bugging front desk people as to the wherabouts of my fiance. It was so irritating. One guy told me he was going to have a procedure on a different floor, then another woman couldn't find him in the computer. One bitchy desk lady didnt see him immediately in the system and in a shrill tone said "Maam, I dont know what to tell you. You can stand her if you want and see if he comes through the door"; offering absolutely zero assistance. I walked away in tears. Thankfully her boss saw me upset and decided to take up my hunt herself. I made sure to tell her how horrid the desk lady had been- she seemed mortified. Again, he couldnt be found in the system- I half wondered if people thought I was hallucinating my fiance and I really belonged in a padded cell?
Finally they realized he'd been moved from the in patient computer program to the outpatient- Yale works on 2 different computer systems and not all patients are in both systems. I finally found him after a nice long jog around the hospital. It was sooo frustrating and silly. In any news. Yes people, even big shot places like Yale are too large to provide proper communication- Lesson learned for me : )

Looking forward to shooting tomorrow while Gunn feels well enough to go watch football. After all the stress, I'm just so relieved that for now, his heart is alright ; ) Thanks to everyone who has been so supportive : )

Well,

My students were completely out of it this week. Most of them did not have their rough drafts in class (or even started them) and most did not finish reading the book we were supposed to discuss. I ended up making up a lesson plan on the fly. It kinda sucked. I'm supposed to keep the class for 2.5 hours, and I could only stretch it to almost 2- not bad, but not fantastic either. I am nervous about finding more for them to do, and keeping them interested and up to date with their writing.

In other news, I did have a shred of good news this week. I recently worked on a shoot in the basement of my apartment. It's very dark, made of old stone- very dungeon looking. The shoot was with photographer Chelsea Franks and Make up artist "Manhattan Mak up" both from Brooklyn. Apparently the shots we took will be submitted in the hopes of being published. I can't post the shots until they are published, but the photographer seems confident that they will be accepted! yay! It was a high fashion/goth shoot.

Tomorrow is my visit to Yale with my fiance. I am keeping my fingers crossed that he will not need the defibrullator. If he doesn't, I can bring him home- if he does, I will have to pick him up on Saturday. Not excited about having to sit with his parents (who don't really love me at all and probably wish I wasn't marrying him) but whatever. I will bury myself in my work and try to develop a decent class lesson for Tuesday.

Sunday I have lots to look forward too. A shoot with 2 other models, a great MUA and Photographer Kevin Stiles aka tattoostiles! I won't give much away as to the content of the shoot, but we have cool gowns to wear and a great concept. Nina Pak will be doing the post editing- it will be a wonderful collaboration!

Well MMers, that's how things are over on my side of the universe : )

xoxoox
E

So,

We found out recently that my fiance's heart monitor showed that his heart beats too quickly, and that he is still suffering from arrhythmia. The Doctors gave us a shock, telling us that something like this could lead to his passing out, and even death as apparently his heart could suddenly stop.
They, of course, can't know for certain until they put him under for some serious testing. As they conduct the test, if they find that his heart is beating strangely as they suspect, they will immediately put a defibrullator in his chest. It is a device that zaps the heart into beating at a regular rate, or zaps it into beating again should it stop. It's a mini version of the paddles you see doctors zapping people in the chest with on television. It would go right over his heart. It will also be able to provide updates on how his heart is doing- straight to his Dr. at Yale without needing an appointment.
I knew we were in for some troubles with his heart problem, but I honestly thought (as the dr.s did) that the heart surgery would make everything normal, or as normal as possible, and it would be smooth sailing until the wedding- but life seems to never go as expected. Its kinda a blow to find that now something else is happening that isn't quite right.
We will know more at the beginning of November when he has the testing- I'm just praying he won't need this mechanical device in his chest- he's already been through so much.

He was fantastic at giving direction and though I was incredibly nervous (anticipation of working with him had been building up for about 2 years) he was very friendly, down to earth and a joy to work with. I didn't feel nervous after the 1st 5 min of shooting.

His wife is a lovely Australian woman, very pretty and very kind- she helped us out during the shoot, offering suggestions, moving props ETC.

The make up artist, Anita aka Manhattan Makeup, was fabulous! I cannot wait to see more from this shoot- it was a wonderful experience, and I do hope to be asked back again in the future to work with this team!

So. this photographer I've been speaking with on and off for a year always says he want's to set something up with me. We discuss ideas briefly and every time I think we are closing in on a date, he vanishes! Last time he said he was going to be shooting 30min from me, and then disappeared all weekend. The only times there were definite dates possible where when he had a shoot all ready to go, and asked me last minute to join- which anyone who knows my schedule knows that that I can't do last minute, I book in advance.
This time I get a message asking if I can shoot for a designer this weekend- I write that I'd love too but that I am already booked to shoot in Manhattan, and crunching in 2 gigs in a weekend is difficult, especially when I work a 40 hr week. I told him I'd again, LOVE to set something up for a different date and email him. I thank him for offering me the gig, and let him know that had I been free, I'd have loved to shoot. Then ask about possible future dates, and stressed that even though I'm cutting down shooting for fall due to my teaching job, that I'd still love to set something up so we could finally work together. His response "xoxoxoxox" and that's it. What is that supposed to mean? that I'm only good for last minute?

So, after being given the constant run around by the lawyer working for my landlady, we finally heard back through his assistant that section 12 on our lease regarding "holdover" tenants says that we are to give 30 days notice even if we went month to month and our first agreement came to a close. After re-reading the document I still found no wording saying anything about termination as a month to month renter. I called the assistant back and SHE couldn't even make sense of it to explain it to me. So, my fiance and I sent the information to his mother, who happens to be a lawyer herself. After looking at the info she said we have a really good shot of getting our deposit back, or more if we go to court or to the deposit investigator of Danbury. So, it's good news. She also said that threatening the office with court may make them pay quickly out of court since the landlady wouldn't wnt to pay legal fees and the law office would not want to look stupid. We shall see- I'm hopeful now, more to come...

So, I received a letter in the mail that my deposit on my former apartment is not to be returned to me, but instead, is to be used as July rent! I was not living there in July! I cleaned the place on the 31st, and had the power and gas turned off, and my fiance handed the keys in on the 1st. The place was spic n span! Also, my lease ran out April 2009, and from then on is just oral month to month agreement. I sent a letter before July saying that we were vacating the apartment by July 1st. There is no stipulation in the contract that expired that I had to give X amount of notice once we go month to month. I called CL&amp who told me they have record of the electric being moved into my landlady's name as of July 1st which proves we were not living there- therefore, I believe it is illegal for them to use our deposit as rent. I am hoping that the law office who handles the landlady's payments will say they made a mistake- if not, off to small claims court I go....

So, this weekend I am taking a break from modeling and going to NYC with my fiance Chris, my brother Jameson, and my BFF Dennis Chunga to walk around and visit my crazy grandparents. It is a visit long overdue. My crazy Puerto Rican grandmother is already fighting over making a huge meal for the middle of the afternoon. Hopefully my mom will be able to intervene and convince her to get some cold cuts and those amazing New York hard rolls that are elusive in CT! Its both my grandmothers, and my step-grandfathers bdays. I got grandma 2 Dvd's, one with Lana Turner, and the other with Barbara Stanwyck. My grandpa Oreste will be receiving a bottle of Argentine wine (as he loves drinking). We are hoping to also hang out, visit Virgin megastore and perhaps snap some fun photos since it will be one of the last times we visit NY before it gets frosty and windy in the city.

This week has been different, Chris had writers residency all week, which has kept him at school morning until night. I've had every afternoon to myself- which I use to get some much needed exercise! Aside from that, my syllabus is almost complete for Fall semester and most of my shoots for August are in place. It's been one crazy summer- I don't want it to end. Not looking forward to snow. Well, now I'm off on a tangent. Just felt like blogging I guess : )

xoxoxo
E

So we are settled in our new apartment, and we LOVE it. It's so large, three bedrooms- One bedroom is the closet/ dressing room, fully equipped with garment racks, vanity and lingerie chest, one is our bedroom, and the last one is the "gaming room" Home of my fiances PS3 and our computer. We just went out and bought a huge television for our living room too! Loving it! Life is good right now. Gunn is pretty much all healed from his heart surgery, he is energetic and very happy- we are both grateful its behind us, at least for the next 15-20 years. I just accepted another adjunct teaching position for Fall, which means less shooting during the fall, but that's alright. More experience toward my ultimate goal.
For now, I'm just working through summer, creating my syllabus, and booking up remaining paid gigs up through August whenever I can. On top of that, I will need to start focusing on Bridesmaids gowns, and honeymoon plans for my wedding next year. Oh yeah, and I will have to hire a florist at some point too- but I have time : )

So, I have decided in the middle of all that is going on to move from my little apartment to a larger one. It's huge actually. Chris and I will be comfortable there, it has 3 bedrooms, a large living room and eat in kitchen. We've already decided that one of the bedroooms will be a huge closet (yay), and the other will be Chris's video game room. Though Chris can't really carry anything, he has been diligently packing up our belongings while I've been at work, and my totally awesome Dad and brother have been carrying all our stuff out for us. I am blessed. I hope this relocation works out for us, I truly hope we will be happy there. I liked my current apartment, but the parking situation was never resolved completely, which was a big issue for me. Because there were no assigned spaces people brought all their friends up in the drive, let them park wherever, regardless if there was enough parking for tenants, and then a couple weeks ago someone's friend hit my neighbors car. I figured it was time for a change. And as my brother said "The kitties will LOVE it". I have to agree!

Apparently, when you have heart surgery one of the many reactions people can have is fluid build up in the lungs. He had to go back to Yale for an Xray and discovered that his entire right lung was filled. It had to be drained overnight, which was extremely painful. No sleep for either of us, but Im again, grateful this is now over. Hopefully he will be on the road to recovery again and not have to go back for this painful procedure again. He deserves a gold medal in my opinion.

In other news, I'm salivating over a new car. Hoping to make enough money so I can buy it soon. MMMM New Car....

Well, my fiance is home from his heart surgery, he is in a lot of pain, but doing well, starting to eat more, trying to walk around more. It was a rough surgery though. It was longer since this was his 2nd time around. They had to cut through scar tissue, and old wires left in from the 1st time ETC. So it took a while for them to get to his heart. Then he had a problem with having not enough platelets so they had to give him an infusion so his blood would clot.It was mortifying seeing him on a breathing tube after they put him in ICU- I held back tears as I promised I wouldn't cry. All in all, the Dr.s and Nurses were great with him, took good care of him. I was at the hospital for 16 hours on surgery day, then visited him everyday afterward. Now I'm trying to fatten him up as he lost weight, but he is doing well. He can't drive for a month I think, they said he should feel a lot better after a month has passed- 6 months till totally normal and able to play sports. I'm happy I took work off last week and hiatus from modeling for a month- he needs me as he cannot pick up anything over 10lbs yet. Though we will be having many follow up appointments. I am proud to say he is "out of the woods", and want to thank those of you who have been so supportive and checked in to see how things were developing. I'm so grateful that the surgery seems to be a success, and that I can look forward to a long healthy life with him- and a wedding in 2010!

Eastwick

The Gallery show of the costumes from Goodspeed Opera House will be on February 8th (Sunday) in Simsbury CT. The photos were entirely a collaboration of myself, photographer Ron Compton, MUA Jessica Lynn Hill and the costume rental division of Goodspeed Opera. The Gallery information can be obtained via this website:
[link]

It will be an afternoon show. I am very excited about this project. As I worked on it for about 1 year, finally seeing the finished products and the reaction of viewers is very important and exciting! Anyone in the area is welcome to come and stop by as I should be there all afternoon!

Eastwick

So... I'm moving. Not too far away. Nice big apartment with hardwood floors, big windows, allows cats!
Gunn and I will be right down the road from a cool little restaurant with great vegetarian food, also a chinese place, and a few spanish stores. We both love spanish food and are psyched it will be a hop, skip and a jump away. Its a nice little area. the only issue thus far is an irate neighbor across the way, and an issue with parking that we have voiced our concerns to our landlady about. She has promised to remedy that at least. The irate neighbor is a cop who does not want anyone parking next to his motorcycle because it costs so much money. He was very intimidating and rude. sort of a bum out. Although we came to a sort of peace treaty "Gunn moving his car" it was still annoying as hell.
We should be officially moved in by Saturday morning. In the meantime, its been crazy. Ive been working full time, going to my apartment after to move and clean up, and modeling for the gallery project on the weekends. Im exhausted! but happy. Going for an interview at my college to discuss becoming an adjunct professor for Fall semester. Nervous, but following my dream! Lets pray everything works out for the best in the next couple months!
