No. I am sick of being in the middle of nowhere with no job. I even applied at a brand-new Forever 21 in Danvers hoping that since they were new they needed to hire people, but nooooo, they apparently don't need to hire Jafaria. I will be broke when I go back to school. But at least I'll be back.

And at least I'll still have my scholarship when I get back. I managed to take five classes, all above the 200 level, and pull two A's and three B's. And I need the scholarship, because even with my financial aid I'm getting charged more money because I have a single room. At least this coming year is the last year I'll live on campus.

Whenever I miss school I just play The Sims 2 and send the Sim version of me to school. She's a History major, and going to be a politician when she graduates. (Her housemate and current best friend is none other than a How Not To Slay Dragons character. Guess which one.)

2. I failed NaNoWriMo. Yes, old news, but since my old journal was about starting it I figured I'd say I messed up. I had roughly 35,000 words.

1. I'm attempting NaNoWriMo this year. Haven't actually signed up yet, but I'll do that soon. I already have a plot outline and lots of character profiles for my novel. Including one where the 'character' has her stats listed as 'length: 2'8"' and description 'four legged and scaly' because she's, well, a pet lizard.

2. I'm submitting an application for a scholarship to study Arabic in Egypt over the summer. If I get in, my entire trip including instruction, housing and travel is paid for courtesy of the State Department. And if I don't, well, I won't have lost anything except a little time writing. And I can't exactly complain about writing.

3. My new glasses are going to be awesome. I'm getting them tomorrow. And I'll have to take a picture with them on because they're better than my old ones.

4. Not that anyone is still reading this trainwreck, but I think I'll have the Discworld fanfic wrapped up around Thanksgiving. That's when I'll have time for writing that doesn't involve my Nano novel or trying to go to Egypt.

5. Found new books to love. The Bartimaeus Trilogy by Jonathan Stroud is awesome. I think I'll pimp it in the books forum.

Because people that join it are, however insignificantly and indirectly, saying that they don't mind being friends with a nazi.

Because one of my best dA friends had to seek my advice about whether he should leave or not, and I almost cried.

Because being legitimately offended by something is treated as if you're just another butthurt drama whore.

Because even if half of the forum flamed this journal, I wouldn't care. I'm beyond caring. You want to be associated with someone who was "disgusted" by a DD of an interracial couple, who frequents Stormfront, and who despite things like that has convinced all of you that she's some kind of "cute, friendly" Nazi, go right ahead, but I'm not going to do it myself and I'm not going to think well of it. Being subscribed is cool. Now I'm subscribed for a whole year. Ain't that great? Also, rather obviously since I'm subscribed, I have a credit card now. Well, a debit card. And I just wiped out most of the money on it by getting a subscription. But I get paid next week for serving coffee to tired college students, so it's all good.

I'm thinking about going to see The Little Mermaid again. The next UMass theater guild New York trip is April 26th...I'll buy my bus ticket and then buy a show ticket online so that I can hopefully save some money and anxiety. But seriously, that show is amazing. I'm still deciding between that and Mary Poppins, but I think TLM will win out. I just hope the Broadway musical of Aladdin isn't just a rumor and comes out sometime soon so that I can use the theater guild for cheap bus tickets again.

Also I'm pretty sure I passed another Greek Mythology exam with the minimum of studying. I read the book once, find out, "Hey I know this stuff" and then take the exam. I knew having been raised on Greek mythology would help me out sooner or later. And I'm pretty sure I've never done better on an Arabic quiz than I did today. And I finished a paper that's due tomorrow--I have a work shift and an hour of class tomorrow, and then my break starts. Yay. I'm going to take pictures of my cat over vacation, but I'll probably make them into lolcats instead of posting them all here.

The campus pond has a wood duck. I just saw it the other day. The day I posted the picture of the mallard duck and the stuffed osprey? Yeah. I saw a wood duck. But I couldn't get a picture. Stupid shy snapping turtles.

Also, I keep promising to post literature here but the last time I tried dA crapped out on me, so I'll have to try again later. No advances on the Discworld-fanfic front, sadly (I can't write the Thieves' Guild to save my frigging life) but I do have two fantasy stories.

Don't blame me if that didn't make any sense. Blame the can of pomegranate energy drink I had today. Stupid energy drink. I didn't even need one, but I drank it because it was the only pomegranate-flavored thing, and now I'm running around like some kind of hyper Persephone. (lol Greek myth allusion.) Will be changing my display name [you know, the name that appears under 'LadyJafaria'] accordingly because I was sick of having my real name up there anyway. And here's some delicious copypasta describing my alignment.
A chaotic evil character does whatever his greed, hatred, and lust for destruction drive him to do. He is hot-tempered, vicious, arbitrarily violent, and unpredictable. If simply out for whatever he can get, he is ruthless and brutal. If he is committed to the spread of evil and chaos, he is even worse. I also have a Jeopardy! contestant audition in May...so yes, there is a slim possibility of me getting on TV. Better make myself more photogenic between then and now, right? The Jeopardy contestant audition is the day after my last final and three days before I go to Florida. Lots of Disney World photos will be posted here, if not in my gallery than in my scraps. This time I WILL find Jafar. I have been to Disney FOUR TIMES and not found Jafar. Which is pretty damn embarrassing for someone called Lady Jafaria. *The picture of him in my scraps doesn't count, as that was a parade, not an ordinary character appearance.* Oh, and I have to see if there's anything with Esmeralda on it. I'm not asking for a completely awesome Esmeralda T-shirt or anything, just a pin or something--anything! The most kick-ass girl in Disney history should not be ignored because she's not a princess. Esmeralda could kick the princesses' butts with one hand tied behind her back. *You will notice, if you go into my favorites, that there is quite a bit of Esmeralda in there. I am not at all obsessed with her. No of course not.*

On that note, I shall leave off writing. I should technically be reading my political science homework, but what did political science ever do for anybody?

Original title: Reptiles, books and ears
Title because I've been thinking about doing a news article featuring reptile photography. Cats and birds get all the attention around here, so I'm going to give some love to scaly creatures. Wait, that came out wrong. Pretend that didn't sound as freaky as it did. I am not going around and snogging lizards. Maybe I should have said "give some recognition to scaly creatures." Anyway, I'll be doing that because I have amazing techniques of procrastinating.
I rediscovered two awesome book series while I was home for spring break: Robert Asprin's Myth Adventures and Patricia C. Wrede's Enchanted Forest Chronicles. I really, really, really want to draw Princess Cimorene even if nobody's ever heard of her. Also, I want more Fables dammit! I read the comic Fables religiously but the sci-fi club hasn't gotten the new issue if it even exists. I've read all the issues of Sandman, Fables, AND Fullmetal Alchemist that they have. And I'm way more into books than comics! [I may also draw Death from the Sandman comics, but I'd still rather stick with book fanart since it's easier to draw what you picture in your head than draw someone that already has a set appearance.]
I've decided I need to face the fact that I never draw people with ears. You know how certain DA artists don't/can't draw noses? I'm like that with ears. I always draw people with hair or headdresses covering their ears. I think it's because I started out by drawing characters whose ears WERE always covered, like Jafar and Mozenrath. Rest assured, when I draw Princess Cimorene, I will endeavor to give her ears.
EDIT: I appear to owe *k-a-t-w-a-l-k pictures of me in the turban I wore when I dressed up as Jafar. I promise, the next time I go home, I will take a picture of me in what you insist upon calling the funny hat.

Nothing takes the place of Aladdin of course since that movie has my Jafar in it [mmm, what a sexy villain...], but here's a close second: The Hunchback of Notre Dame. I put it in the same category as Hercules. You can think it's an inaccurate retelling of the original story and still like it. I see entirely too many people who refuse to try this movie just because OMG DISNEY CAN'T GIVE A TRAGIC BOOK A HAPPY ENDING! Sure they can, so long as they make all the characters lions so nobody notices*, but if they do it with the original characters they're making a travesty of the book. Well I'm all for people being high-minded but HoND is a great movie even if it isn't the most faithful retelling of the book. The musical Wicked wasn't exactly the most faithful retelling of that book either and everyone loved it...Okay I stop ranting now. I also found a copy of a Disney movie I've loved forever but never saw a DVD of before, Bedknobs and Broomsticks. Needless to say, this new Disneyness has given me some art inspirations, but it'll be a while before you see Clopin or Frollo or Esmeralda in my gallery, since I've got classes that suck the life out of you even when you aren't sick. Then there's the matter of the Discworld fanfic...I only have one chapter left to write but I've really let it fall into abeyance. Only I would get the idea to write an Aladdin/Discworld crossover. That will be the last fanfic you see in my DA gallery though, as I'm now on fanfiction.net as well, not that I ever visit. I'm going to put chapter 7 here so that nobody has to chase me for it, but if I write other fanfics you probably won't even know I've written them.

1. Starting a Jafar fanclub. Yes you read me right.
2. Dragons of Argonath fanart. "Dragons of Argonath" is a fantasy series by Christopher Rowley, largely focusing on the adventures of one dragon, Bazil. I really like the concept of dragons that walk on two legs and carry swords, so...there will be Bazil in my gallery sooner or later.
3. A picture of me and my cat Sasha. The interesting part? We'll be posing as Vetinari and his dog Wuffles as seen in the book "The Art of Discworld." Honestly, my cat reminds me so much of Vetinari's dog it's not even funny.
4. I will finish the fanfic. I promise that one. None of the other ones are promises, but I wouldn't leave an unfinished fanfic lying around for very long.
