Overfeeding!

I am a bad fishy mom! Come to find out these algae wafers are NOT good for the fish because they reabsorb water...get huge...float off...and cause the ammonia to rise. And while rearranging my tank this morning I found a gazillion off-white fuzz balls floating around. So, I got an air stone (like I needed...but I had to buy another extension cord too...ugh) and the air pump has gotten the watter really moving and helping the filter clean up the crud. Was advised to do a 30% water change tonight then go back to the fish store with a water sample this weekend. And hopefully then I can get another guppy to replace Leo.

Well, last night I noticed my newest cory acting odd. Decided to let things slide. He was probably just being...a cory. But this morning I saw him floating half-dead. Had no time to pull him out the tank as I was called in to work and rushing out the house. 4 hours later on my lunch break I removed the bronze cory who was by then dead. Grabbed a water sample and put the fish in a baggy then put them in the fridge at work for another 4 hours until I got off and went to Petco shortly after. They checked my water and they said everything was fine. The ammonia was slightly elevated, but they said that may be due to the fish being dead in the tank for a little while.

Figured it was just that one fish was a "bad" fish, but still to keep from getting any more "bad" ones I bought a new fish at another store rather than Petco. So, I ran to the local fish store and bought a new cory as I heard rumors from a friend that almost all the new fish at Petco in their last shipment have been dying. Came home, added the new cory and everything looked fine in the tank. Just looked at the tank and saw my FAVORITE guppy stuck to the filter. Tapped him and he swam off, but was not swimming well. So, I have him now in a quarantine bowl.

I don't know what is going on. This came on suddenly. My guppy and all the others excluding the cory, were swimming around begging for food as usual. My guppy Leo keeps swimming rapidly then stopping, sinking, and lying on his side or head down. The only noticeable damage of any sort on him is his gills on one side, but it happens to be the side that was being sucked up by the filter.

I'm just freaking out now. I don't know what they are dying from...if they are related...nothing! And now my other 2 guppies as well as my brand new cory and my albino are at risk of dying!! I wish I could say they had some sort of creature growing on their head or something, but I have nothing to work off of. They're just...dying and suddenly with no previous signs. Have not sprayed anything over my tanks. Nothing new. I occasionally overfeed, but I have cut back the last few days. The only difference in anything is that the weather here has gotten warmer and I've had to leave the light off or my tank will hit 80 degrees in just a couple hours time.

Tomorrow I am going to take Leo, my guppy, who I presume will be dead in the next hour, to the LFS and hoping they can help me out!!

The man there told me I should get a 5 gallon minimum next time since smaller tanks are hard to keep healthy. Oops.

Well, lo and behold there were 2 tanks at church last night that had been donated for a large yard sale. I most likely won't be present the day of the sale so I went ahead and brought the 5 and 10 gallon tanks home. I'll have to contact the head of the yard sale and ask her how much she wants me to give for the 2 tanks.

May not ever use the 10 gallon for fish. Why? It is 17 years old! It has a manufacturing date of 1992! I don't know how well the caulking will hold up. Would not like fretting about the tank exploding in the middle of the night, but it can still be used for other creatures. did fill it up last night and left it sitting on the back porch. It's holding water just fine as far as I can tell.

Will definitely use the 5 gallon. Might move around some things in my room so I can use it in place of the 2.5 gallon. If I get another extension cord I could possibly stick it on top my computer desk. If not my brother can use it in the future for his 2 guppies.

I plan on probably just keeping guppies. Everyone is saying anything more than 4 is too much. I guess they haven't seen how SMALL a guppy is. I probably can fit 5 as long as I don't attempt to put anymore fish in there.

I want to have at least 2 males. I already have 1. Should I get 2 females too? And for those with experience...do you think I can get by with 2 zebra danios and 2 guppies?

Everyone I talk to is whining that a 2.5 gallon tank is useless, but I saw on a youtube video some rather LARGE fish in a 2.5 doing perfectly fine. And they had like 7 fish (to include those large ones)

Two of them are black with white paws. One is a solid black kitten. The last born is a calico. It's mainly white with black and orange across her back and face. With a black tail to top it off.

Trying to see about keeping the calico. My parents both really like it as do I! We shall see.

Also, Tuesday evening I went and saw the CATS Broadway musical. First my mom and I went to California Dreaming for dinner. We topped it off with some cheesecake. YUM!

CATS was fun, but there were a few scenes I found a bit boring. I never liked them a whole lot in the movie version either. The scene (Growltiger's scene with the pirates) I'd never heard/seen before as it was not included in the video version. It was long and seemed rather off-subject from the whole storyline. I didn't care for it.

I loved most of the others. Loved Skimbleshanks, Munkustrap (well casted), and of course Rum Tum Tugger. I usually love Mistoffelees, but I couldn't take the man who was playing him very seriously. He was an incredible dancer, but he was shaped a bit like a girl and talked like a girl...he probably doesn't like girls. It comes with the territory I suppose, but at least the other guys dancing didn't draw so much attention to themselves.

Granted, the owner did not have the control he should have over his own 2 dogs (especially the blue one that was not letting go of the red one)

But, these dogs are bred to behave in such a matter. I'd hate to think my dog I love so very much would just snatch on to another dog and I couldn't physically pull it off the other dog.

The children were anxious, crabby, and mean. With visions of new video games dancing in their heads. Mamma in her new sweater and papa in a new shirt, were all, but nestled down for a long winter nap.

When out on the lawn their arose such a clatter. They ignored the sounds, what is was didn't matter...

It was the dogs running around afraid they'd be left!

Okay, yes...I was bored and that didn't make a whole lot of sense. Our dogs are running like crazy people through the house afraid we won't take them out of town. And I have 3 hamsters in my room at the moment. One belongs to my best friend and she wants to make sure Hammy doesn't get killed by her mom when she goes out of town.

And, you can't imagine how much time you have to spend making sure all the pets being left behind are well provided for while we're gone. We have to make sure the doves and pigeons have water and food. And the snake has water. The cats are fed. The rabbit fed. We're going be gone about 4 days. Not THAT long, but when you have as many pets as we do it sure seems that way. And now I am worried Crash, one of our pigeons is ill. They live outside and it's been below freezing. Hopefully he isn't dead in the cage while we're gone. 0_o

Anyway, Merry Christmas!!!

And I actually cried and am still sad about his passing. I was expecting after 4 days he was on his way to growing into a fine little mouse. I think I was more attached to him than my 2 hamsters! I was feeding him ever 2 1/2 hours since Thursday. Hard not to get emotional over something you spend so much effort into keeping alive only to have it die over something you have no power over.

Due to less time on the computer I am cutting down on my sites and I would have taken more time to stick around here and keep my galleries updated, but nobody, but ONE person, suggested me to stick around. Sad. Very sad. My art may not be amazing, but it isn't awful.

I am most definitely keeping them on Flickr because I have an account linked to my church's account (where with some help I've started a Photo club) I figured I may as well keep my gallery on SA considering it is my largest and oldest one. I've been pretty routinely updating Myspace so friends can see, but it seems like 60 percent of my friends get on Facebook more than Myspace.

And then we've got the issue with DA. I don't normally keep it updated that well, but I do like to share photos there as it is the biggest art community on the web. I don't have an established group of buddies there though.

Chocolate just posted a journal about the works of hers that seemed to be different than her usual stuff and pieces that though flawed she seems to love for one reason or another. So, I am going to discuss a few that trigger in my brain.

This is the first thing I thought of when I thought about lighting. [link] I normally am not very good with lighting. And even this piece is pretty darn simple. However, I had this sudden urge to just draw something that reflected my life at the time. I was applying for a short term job working with seabirds down on the coast. I didn't get the job, but it inspired this which I drew a few months back on Adobe. I still find myself drawn to the dog's body in the bird's mouth. It gives what would be a very boring picture a bit of depth.

I have a thing for eyes. If I can't get them right I am never happy with an image. This one [link] does not have that great of eyes. Obviously. Yet, every time I look at it I am happy with it. I guess their is some hidden emotion in it since it does reflect two (human characters not dog characters) from a story of mine. It has a story behind it that others probably are not aware of.

[link] This one I can stare at for a very long time. At the time of making it I was just starting to change around my style in dogs. Again, I think the eye attracts me and the overall expression and this one is about a friend of mine.

Here is an extremely old piece that still defies me. [link] I have tried in recent years to redo this old image, but I never can get the pose right. For the time, this was REALLY good for me. And every single attempt I make at redrawing a similar to pose with the style I have now...I fail. I don't understand why. By now I should easily be able to draw something that I drew 2 years ago. I don't know. *shrug* I will try again soon.

Well, let's see...I haven't gone trick-or-treating in years. So, nothing! But I've been lots of things in the past. I was cat back in the day. I was a Renaissance princess once. I was also Tinkerbell when I was like 10. XD The last thing I dressed up as was probably a baby and that was when a friend and I went together in middle school. It's been a while!
