But I am making time to have fun and explore the city.  Just today I went to an exhibition about Monet and his beloved water lilies at the New York Botanical Garden.  It was the perfect autumn day.  The leaves are just beginning to change color and a cool breeze rippled the waters of the lily pond.  You can see a few photographs from the exhibition in my gallery.

Of course, I'm going to miss my family and friends like crazy, and it's odd to realize that this could be my last summer in Florida, where I've lived pretty much my whole life.  I'll be back to visit, but will it ever feel the same after having lived in the big city?  Will I be the same?  These are just a couple of the questions I've been ruminating on as I prepare to take this plunge.

My archaeological adventure was fun and quite a learning experience.  I ate freshly caught oysters and clams for the first time, got very dirty, was nearly eaten alive by gnats, and - believe it or not - saw wild lemurs.

I had food poisoning yesterday in the early hours of the morning.

I have been somewhat productive this week, though.  I moved in and got myself organized, met with my advisor, and got a schedule worked out for my internship - basically, all of that preliminary stuff that needs to get done before the real work begins.  And now that I'm finished with the preparations and I'm staring the hard-core work in the face... it's so tempting to want to put it off a little bit longer.  I feel like I'm standing at the mouth of a cave, where I know some hungry monster is looming in the shadows ready to eat me, but I HAVE to go inside.
