In no real particular order.

ART LIST

-Bone Griffon ships: done, just need to do the removable decking pieces, the trebuchet, and the damned whales (pun totally intended, as they actually are undead whales...)

-Orcs: Still need to touch up the nicked ones, and fully paint about 4 individual pieces.

-Dark Elves: Most are half painted, about about 3-4 are just primed. Thank goodness they aren't toooooo bad. Just need to DO them. I think the assassin'll be the one who ends up giving me the most trouble.

-Put batteries in digital camera (grrr) and see if I can get some decent shots of my finished bottlecap pendants. THEN find the cord that lets me plug in the camera to the computer. Camera was a bust... apparently, the one we have just doesn't like being up close and personal. I HATE digital crap....)

-Finish my new ankh necklace... IF I can find the stones/beads for it that are "just right" (this on in particular sucks, because I REALLY want to work on it, but somehow, until I get the stones/beads, I just can't... talk about artistic frustration, LOL)

-I've got 1/2 to 2/3 of my first short story written, now I just need to type what I've got. One, so it's typed and I can do easy editing, and two, because it wouldn't surprise me that as I type what I have, the rest may come...

-Comic project. I have GOT to sit down and take the thumbs I've done and transfer them to the proper boards. IF I can get over feeling like I'm just not good enough to do it. (note- I hate backgrounds. I'm beginning to think maybe I'm more a pin-up/tattoo sort of artist than a sequential art sort of artist... But we'll see...)

-I found out that they actually sell sets of little artist trading cards, so I picked up a pack. I've always loved little bits of art like that and really, there's no reason I shouldn't. I think my first one is going to be one from a tattoo design I'm in the middle of doing.... CEP, that's all I'm gonna say on that... but the letters will be clear when I get it done. *evil squee sort of laugh* I may even do that one tonight after I'm done here.. DONE! Bwahahahahaha!! I even uploaded it to... and now you shall see what CEP stands for. And hopefully find them as adorably cute as I do.

-Speaking of which, I need to scan said tattoo, so I can print out part of it, to flip it and use a lightbox so I can get both sides symmetrical. Or use the lightbox for the copy, then use it again to get it done... either way. I need to do it, if nothing else so I can make a copy of the FULL piece so I can color it, too.

-I've got a few more prints I'd like to color... BUT.... my art desk is currently in 3D mode, not 2D mode... so until I either finish some of my 3D projects, and/or clean the damn thing off... it's likely to stay that way. Which sucks, because I've kinda been in the mood to work on those, too.

-Sun's project. Working on that a little bit at a time, so it's coming together, if impossibly slowly. (mental note- next time, IF there's a next time, go smaller! LOL)

-Need to find a weekend to take a trip with my dad out to the beach to find shells to fix his picture.

-create the mold I want to try.... learn how to work with resin... If this works, it will be AWESOME! Mold has been started. I lost patience with a bunch of thin layers, so I just dipped the damn thing in the mold compound, and am letting it dry. Will likely do this a few more times... Patience like THAT I can do, because then I can at least do other stuff while I wait... *is much excited*

As for the non-art stuff.... the yard work continues to go well. This will be the fourth weekend in a row, and I'm pleased with the progress made. Especially so since I've been the one to do most of it! Next weekend we clean out the shed- the precursor to it being torn down here in probably a month or so... The inside of the house is, well.. still the inside, BUT we haven't gotten worse. We've KEPT the purple room completely clean. The office is not that far behind (I'd KILL for a small fling cabinet, though, for all my paperwork crap). The living room is likely about on par with the office, if just because we're always in it, but it still only takes a short bit of time to clean. The rest of the house has been likewise pretty much stagnant. Not exactly great news for some of the rooms, but at least they aren't any worse than they were to begin with. And it's looking like "my corner" is going to get a much needed purging sometime here in the next month or so... I'll admit I'm a bit worried, but it probably won't be as bad as I think.

Anyway... that's it for now... I'm going to go either go to bed, or maybe start my trading card. Not sure yet. Either way though, I'm...

Well, technically, there's really no such thing, BUT.. that's the conclusion I came to last night after an almost hour long internal monologue by a hopefully future me.

See, every so often, my mind likes to play the daydream game. You know the one. Where it's the future and you've managed to successfully accomplish whatever it is you are actually currently working on.

In my case, at the moment, that happens to be one of two things- a new secret project concerning my bottlecap jewelry, and the short stories I am trying to write.

Last night's daydream was an internal monologue that happened to be the introduction to a collected edition of a series of my short stories. Simple enough, really, giving little clues as to how the story differed from the "standard" of each of the genres I've mixed together.

Then it tangented off into possible reasons why more people don't do what I'm doing, and THAT in turn led to an almost professor-like lecture on how to change or create even ONE thing, you have to have an entire background structure. A good visual would be the standard iceberg- if you want to change one little thing, or make up one little thing, you can- that's the tip of the iceberg... but in order to be able to DO that, (because "magic" can only explain just so much before it becomes so unreasonable that you lose the reader entirely) you have to understand, research, and create the entire huge rest of the iceberg that is under the water, that no one is ever going to see.

That way, you can write that one sentence with confidence that you know what you are talking about, even if the rest of that iceberg never sees the light of day.

The example I used for this one of my favorite characters in my world, who happens to be a vampiric being that isn't quite like any other. And for a simple 3-4 sentence paragraph, describing how he walks through an open air market during the day, I have an entire notebook dedicated to the base type of being he is- the different kinds, where they live, what they eat, how big they are, their basic temperments, how each is regarded in various areas of the world, their entire biology of how and why they work the way they do, powers, abilities, etc. AND, another half notebook dedicated to his vampire side- their biology, physiology, psychology- how and why they work, powers, abilities, ways they can die or be killed, how they become vampires, how the vampirism is trasmitted, what biologically and psycologocially happens to various classifications of creatures once they are infected (a vampire biting a deer will have different effects than a vampire biting a human, after all)...

And then THAT spiraled off into the actual mechanics of the transmission of the vampirism in my world, which, admittedly, probably gave me as many questions as it did answers.... but still.

Then end result of all of this is the revelation back in the present that I've watched WAY too much Discovery Channel.

Yeah.

My mind works in weird ways sometimes... LOL.

Anyway, just thought I'd share.

So, yeah. I've been really quiet lately... Haven't gone a whole lot art wise.

I got a bunch of bottlecap pendants done before Con, so that's good. (I will try and get a decent pic of them all up soon), and delivered the three I had commissions for (one of which I DO have a pic for)..

Haven't touched the comic in a while, which I REALLY need to do... Such a shame I've only got one art desk, lol. Oh well, even if I did have a second one, I've nowhere to put it..

The one I do have is currently flat, as I have been painting figs instead of drawing comic pages. On the plus side, the Bone Griffon fleet is almost done. Well, the ships are, for the most part. I have some sails and some decks to do, and the 6 undead whales... but the ships are almost done. Once I've got them complete I may take a break and see what I can get done on the comic.

Other than that, I don't have much to report, other than it seems like ever since I decided to do jewelry with bottlecaps, I see it more and more. I don't know if that's just my luck, or if it's just that I started noticing it more, or some combination thereof... It's ALMOST a little discouraging. But, oh well. I'll keep doing what I'm doing, because I DO like them, and I haven't seen anyone else put chainmail on them (thank the gods for THAT)... And I have a few other ideas in the works for them too, as soon as I get the logistics figured out. May go out and look at stuff for that today....

Oh, and if ANYONE has worked with resin, and is willing to tell me what it's like to work with, I'd be much appreciative. I don't need to know WHAT you do with it, just what it is like to work with- easy, hard, time consuming, a pain in the ass but worth it, etc. So far I haven't had any luck fining much about real-world experience with it... the few people I've asked seem terrified I'm going to steal their ideas, despite the fact that I've already been doing the same sort of thing just as well without the resin, and in fact want the resin for making molded type stuff.

Sun's project is progressing. Perhaps not as fast as I'd like, BUT... it IS progressing. That's what I get for trying something overly ambitious, right? LOL. Ya'll will understand when it's done.

I've got some prints I'd like to color here soon too (I'm beginning to think I'm more of a colorist with my watercolors than I am anything else, but hey, we'll see. I may yet "find my voice" with the comic...)

Anywho... um.. I think that's it for now.

Think I'm going to take off to the hardware store for some ideas...

LATER.

There are, upon occasion, times when I should very much like to strangle my muse. I cannot, however, due to the fact that the times when I should most like to strangle her, are the times she gives me some of my best work.

It is just most unfortunate that she does this by allowing me no sleep, or otherwise forcibly rousting me from my bed in order to jot down whatever she has for me before she forgets.

While I am accustomed to being awake at hours that differ drastically from societal norms, and while I am immensely appreciative of the gift that is having her in my life... it does not make it any less irritating to be kept up working, as opposed to having made the choice to remain awake.

I am sure there are those that would claim that I could choose to go to bed at any time, regardless of what my "muse" might want, and for those who are blessed to have a muse that allows that to be a reality, I imagine it is a valid argument.

For myself, however, that is simply not the case, as my muse does not subscribe to the theory that I, and not she, should be in charge.

So in case you wish to make that point, please keep in mind that while I can appreciate where that point comes from, I have no more a frame of reference of what it is like to be in charge of my muse, than you likely have of what it is like to be a slave to yours.

And now that it is after 8:00 in the morning, I am left with a rather annoying headache, as my muse's attention has wandered away from the story she was giving me, and no time in which to lie down in an attempt to get it to go away, as I have to be up in about half an hour to get ready for the day's events.

So... I decided to share with you that which is going through my brain as I try to recover from the last 3 hours while I am still eloquently under the effect of my muse, even though she has moved on to whatever else it is she is doing, bouncing happily about her cage and giggling at my irritated torment.

Such is my life with my muse. Ce la Vie, no?

Yeah, I know. I've been fairly quiet for a while... But not necessarily as busy as I should be.

On the plus side, I've got the old scanner/printer hooked up to the spiffyful new computer I got last week (though I'd KILL for one that scans 11x17!) so I can start scanning stuff directly to my comp without having to bother Loki...

Now, the next couple of months are going to be set aside for me making a HUGE push to get a TON of stuff done. Namely:

1. Comic project- arg, this one's gonna be rough. I've got 3/4 an issue left to do the layouts for, and the first 1/4 to transfer onto comic boards, and when all that's done, I've got to figure out the whole "inking" thing.. and whether or not there's gonna be color (gods, I'm hoping it's not much!!). And of course, I'm still unsure of my abilities, and working on finding a style that I like, that fits what I'm doing, and that I'm comfortable with... Good gods, I don't know how the pros do it, lol.

2. I've a small stock of pendants I need to get cracking on and get finished. Including a few that should have been done AGES ago. I'm a horrible person, lol.

3. Sun's project. I haven't touched it in a while with everything else that's been going on, and I really need to get back to that.

4. I have some figs that need painting, some customs that need finishing and painting, and of course, there's my stories...

5. (though it's really higher on the priority list) Get the side yard fixed up.

Now, if I can just find a way to make myself to all the stuff more often, lol!

Anyway, gotta run.
Welp, an update has been long overdue, but I do at least have a perfectly legitimate reason for being quiet. Well, legitimate to SOME of you anyway, lol. First, I work evenings, and since it feels more like the "middle" of my "day", it causes me to occasionally feel like I have less time than I actually do. Second... I've gotten back into playing CoH a LOT more again, so that's been taking up time in the later hours. THEN, I just plain get lazy. (when I'm not working on various other projects)

So... to appease the non-existent masses, here for your reading amusement, is the next installment of Random Quotes.

And always remember- names have been omitted or changed to protect the innocent/guilty/stupid. (or because I had no idea who said it)

1. WHAT???

2. Ah, geeks hanging out around geek girls....

A: (to B) Did you tell Jack your bra size grew:
B: No.
C: (to A) How do YOU know that?

The following are but a portion of the ones overheard at work.

3.
A: Yeah, I saw it on the discovery channel. I mean, cuz I wasn't playing or anything.
B: Hanging out the the Poker Room, watch the discovery channel?
A: .. Yeaahh....

4.
A: I'm not that much of a nerd. Maybe half a teaspoon.
B: You're half a teaspoon a nerd?
A: Yeah.

5. (talking about one of A's roommates, I think.)
A: He can't get a real woman?
B: Yeah, probably- No.

And, one more for the road.

6. I was a party to this one. Gotta love gaming geeks.

Friend: What's that driving game? The one where you drive over hookers?
3 geeks in UNISON: Grand Theft Auto?
Friend: That's it.

Well, that's all for this issue, folks, But rest assured, I've got material saved up for another 2 full issues in the future.

Until then,

Later!

Mostly random stuff, but still, I probably need an update anyway. Or, need TO update. Bleh.

Mostly I'm just bored and feel like rambling.

I've got a couple of things I need to scan, so I should be trying to get that done here in a few days. And I've got a few bottlecap necklaces that I'll try and get a decent pic of when I get them done. (I'm thinking I'm going to try and use my dad's camera once again, only outside this time, where I KNOW there'll be plenty of light.)

I'm still working on Sun's project, and with luck, it'll be done in time for christmas, lol. Joking aside, I'm sorry it's taking me so long. But, it was also a bit of an experiment, and I think I've found that I'm just too all over the place to be able to really do something like this consistently. That said, it's still going to be an amazing piece, and maybe in the future I will see if I can't "shrink" the project to something a bit more manageable so I can do more of them, more quickly. Maybe like bust portraits or head shots. Something smallish.

And thank you guys for all the advice! I've gone through and made a questionnaire sheet for my story, and have started filling it it. I now know what some of the dots are! Yay!! I will probably still have trouble connecting them, but for now, at least I'm figuring out WHAT needs to be connected.

Other than that, not a lot going on. I'm house-sitting for my parents until tomorrow, then after that, I'm going to try and be more productive. Though, this evening job has thrown my schedule all sorts of out of wack, and I am still adjusting. Not to the hours, mind, because that fits me to a tee, but balancing getting stuff done and hanging out with the husband and such. It's a little crazy. Hopefully thought it won't take me too much longer to get what little motivation I do have at any given point back.

Well, that's all for now. Laters!

Okay, so... well, first off, I have a job! Yay!! Part time, in the evenings, doing data entry stuff. But hey, it helps pay the bills, and besides, I LIKE data entry anyway. Er, well, I like it so long as taking my eyes off it for 5-10 minutes to rest them and my brain doesn't set me back 2 hours... Which, thankfully, does NOT appear to be the case this time! Yay!!

Ahem, anyway.... back to the MAIN reason for this entry...... I have an idea for a story (novel, series of stories...?) and I know WHAT I want to do with it(them), I know WHAT it's (they're) going to be about, I know the setting, and the main character. I even have a killer if I decide to go the serial killer route.

My trouble seems to be in figuring out the details. I know point a, and I know point b (more or less, depending on the route I take), and I know what some of the steps should be along the way, but.. it's like a connect-the-dots puzzle where none of the dots are numbered. I'm fairly certain what it's supposed to look like, I just don't know HOW it's drawn or what dot to begin on.

So, my question, for those of you who write, and would be kind enough to help me along is this:

HOW do you connect the dots, and fill in the blanks?

Research? A special method of "getting in the mood to write/be inspired"? Taking notes on things that are similar to see how someone else connected the dots (not unlike the old technique of copying a master to learn the process)?

Any ideas would be vastly appreciated.

Thanks in advance, ya'll.

Love and hugs!
-D

For no other reason than "let's get together and kick someone's ass."

These are documented, proven cases of premeditation for violence and murder.

But a chimp at a zoo hoarding rocks to throw at visitors when he's pissed is what makes people go "oh shit, they ARE capable of premeditation"??????

Please tell me I'm not the only one who realizes that the universe is laughing at us.

Normally, I don't do 'movie reviews' here, but had such mixed feelings about this one, I figured why not. Soo.... on to the review!

This is a movie that the statement "people will either love it or hate it" does not apply to.

I'm sure some will love it, and some will hate it. But I think a good majority will fall somewhere in between. Like myself.

Overall, it's not a bad movie. But the problem is that it's greatest strength is at the same time its greatest weakness- the storytelling.

Visually, it is stunning. The acting, when taken in context of just itself, is excellent (Rorschach in particular, OMG he's AWESOME).

The sex scenes... (yes, there are 3 of them).. if you are male, and/or like to see such things, you will be in heaven.

If you don't (such as myself- that's why I have the playboy channel, thank you), be prepared. The first one isn't so bad. It takes a little too long to get to the point for MY taste, but it is actually a necessary part of the story, so I don't begrudge the movie that one. The second one is longer than the first, partly story based, and partly gratuitous, though it doesn't get that far. The third one is nothing but gratuitousness. (literally, think the sex scene in 300 between the king and his wife, except LONGER). If this sort of thing ruins movies for you, you are now warned.

Now, what made the movie great was the storytelling concerning the characters. You cared about the characters and who they are, and why they did what they did (well, except for the one with the blue cat- they really didn't deal with him a whole lot).

Unfortunately, that is exactly what made the movie disappointing- the storytelling for most of the characters was so great, that the actual plot of the movie felt more like a hollow afterthought, as did the character with the blue cat. You cared about the rest of the characters, but didn't really give a rats ass what they did in relation to the rest of the world. The threat of nuclear war really didn't feel like it was anywhere near as urgent as it was supposed to be, and it really did seem like the only people worried about it were the government, and the heroes. No one else really seemed all that concerned. It was almost like they felt they had to throw in some kind of plot to justify telling the stories of most of the characters! (I'm hoping -guessing?- that this is not the case in the actual book, and seems to be a little of what I am hearing, so apparently, that part did NOT translate well at all)

My husband and I were talking about it, and I was sort of comparing it to kingdom come (which, if they ever did that as a movie, it would totally SMOKE watchmen!), and he said that in a way, watchmen was a lot like kingdom come in that the heroes had a big decision to make, and that is was sort of the same thing but from a different perspective.

Which, i can kind of see, but in the movie, at least, that "decision" as it were, wasn't covered until the last maybe 20 minutes of the movie, it didn't feel like there was any real weight to it, and then after that, there was absolutely nothing that gave any indication of the consequences or effects of that decision, on either the characters, or the world.

Had the movie been twice as long, or had it been about JUST the characters, it would have been spectacular.

But as it was, it was so great in telling the stories of all but the one character, that the rest of the movie just fell incredibly flat and felt so hollow and almost pointless, making the whole thing rather disappointing.

So much so, that it doesn't even inspire me to read the graphic novel at all! I probably will, someday, but the movie really did not make me want to at all.

Anyway, that's just my few cents.

-LC

I'll get to that when I can, as I have a feeling it's going to take me a while to think of that many!! (and, I'm not doing it now because I've got an idea I wanna work on.)

Which brings me to...

Ideas: I've been toying with the idea of turning the tie into a mini-tie necklace for the ladies (or guys, if you like that sorta thing) and have been debating the best way to do it so that it's not just one even width. To do that, I'd need to add in some sort of material background to adhere it to which created all sorts of other obstacles. However, and I'm not the least bit sure HOW it occurred to me, about 10 minutes ago I was inspired with JUST the material to use. The only trick will be figuring out how to dye it properly (if at all). So... I wanted to do an update, but am super exited to go work on this particular project, sooo..... that's why I'm keeping things short.

Dragons: Dammit all if Sun didn't give me a needlessly silly (yet totally adorable) pointless past-time/thingie...
Or at least, a productive one thus far. Let us hope the trend continues.

First up, I just finished the necklace to go with my bracelet. Which means that just as soon as I can get a good picture of it, I will post it for ya'll to see.

And which means that I can also get a good pic of another necklace I completed a couple weeks ago (didn't post it because I didn't want to break the continuity with the bracelet). It's one that I'd started AGES ago and forgot about until recently. So I will get that posted soon as well.

Other bits of productivity- Got the office just about completely back to being clean, hung up the husband's Raiders clock, and got the bookshelves in the back free of non-book crap and organized(ish) so that when I get all the rest of our books back from the storage unit on saturday they will have someplace to go and will already have a bit of an organizational scheme done.

Also left to do- sew the curtains for the office, take down the old ones, and mount the new ones. The longest part of this will be the sewing (that's what I get for doing it all by hand, lol!).

Also, finally got started on the secret comic project, and Sun's piece is coming along nicely, if a bit slowly (due to me working on 5000 things at once, as usual). BUT, it IS getting done.

And I'll probably be an exhausted wreck the next couple of weeks, as I try to get everything else figured out. The roommate is moving out, and will be gone as of Thursday. (Thankfully, she is still going to pay ALL the rent/bills for January so that will help.)

Saturday is the trip to storage to get all of OUR stuff and turn the unit over to her. And once everything gets back here, I have to sort out what is going where, what's going to whom, and the like, as well as putting away a TON of books and other things. I'll be lucky if I get anything creative done, lol.

Well, anyway, that's all for now. Just thought I'd do an update, since I've been and felt actually productive for a change.

Later.

New year, new random quotes!

1. First up, courtesy of my husband.

Me: Why do you have to be so mean to me?
Him: Because no one else is cuz they're afraid of me.

2. Courtesy of the roommate's boyfriend.
"I'm not gay, I'm just in touch with my feminine side."

3. After the hockey game the other night, again, courtesy of my husband (and me)
Me: Game over?
Him: Yes.
Me: Who won?
Him: Bruins.
Me: Do we care?
Him: No.

Now, mind you, this conversation was being conducted while he was in the back room, and was heading from the living room into the dining room.

4. This one isn't really random, as it's from a TV show, but it is by far one of the funniest lines I have heard in an exceptionally LONG time:

"You want me to tell Jack the Ripper to fetch?"

5. Courtesy of some girl I heard talking to her friends while walking along the street this evening.

Girl: "I generally only have sex with people when I know where they've been."

And now, finally, something that isn't so much of a random quote, as it is a random conversation/encounter/game that I feel the silly urge to pass along to the rest of you.

Do you remember your first ever date movie? (i.e. the first movie you saw at the theater ON A DATE.)

For example:

Mine: Mortal Combat 2 (sad, I know, but not nearly as bad as some)

The husband's was The Sleepwalkers.

The roommate's boyfriend's was Who Framed Roger Rabbit. (see, I told you mine wasn't as bad as some!)

I'm sure you are wondering where this came from. Well, at the movie store the other night, one of the guys working there somehow decided he wanted to know the answer to this question from all the other employees, and was making a list. We found our way into the conversation, and had a good laugh and a bit of fun. So I decided that I'd drag you all in.

Also, I am going to HAVE to go back in Feb to see if he actually DOES use it to do that month's "staff picks". (Valentine's Day, date movie.. you get the idea.)

Anyway, that about does it for this issue of Random Quotes.

Later!

p.s. don't forget to answer the question!

(I'm not sure why, other than because I've got a super cool idea for doing it, and I just want to see how it looks, I think. Otherwise, it's 100% finished.)

Despite having an idea almost immediately, it took me until a couple of hours ago to finally get her out of my head and onto the paper. A bit annoying, as I'd hoped to have it done MUCH sooner, but ultimately, I'm glad it took as long as it did. She turned out beautifully (if different from my initial vision), and I'm extremely happy with how she looks. Now I just hope Draconion is as well.

Second-
's project.

STATUS: I FINALLY have the materials I need! *dances* Well, with the possible exception of another hoop, which I will probably pick up tomorrow while I'm out.

I'm looking forward to working on this one and seeing how it turns out. If it looks as awesome as I think it's going to, I'm going to be elated, and Sun will have a truly unique piece to hang on her wall. *grin*

Third-
New Jewelry piece(s).

I've finally learned myself how to do byzantine chain, and made the mistake of ending up at Hobby Lobby with 50% off all kinds of fun beads and such.

As a result, look for a bracelet to show up within the next couple of days.

I've got a couple of other ideas, but they are only really kind of half formed, so I'm not sure when they will get put into production as I've got to refine and decide on their final designs first. And depending on how things go, I may actually have a choker/bracelet set or two before I'm done as well.

Fourth-
I get to teach myself how to do comics. Should be fun, and at least mildly entertaining to everyone else, so don't be surprised if I put up "practice" pieces every so often (since I won't be putting up the ACTUAL work I'm learning to do this for).

Wish me luck. I have a feeling I'm going to need it, lol.

Well, I think that pretty much about covers everything... Sooo... I will see ya'll later, and in case I don't see ya or talk to ya beforehand, have a happy and SAFE New Years!

-LittleCorax

Even a pound of HIGH QUALITY Floor Sweepings as well. *is extra excited, because those are next to impossible to get* I can't wait!!!!

As it is right now, I've got enough for one definitely, two maybe, more of my newest piece, so on the off chance someone else wants one (I've already sold 2, yay!), I can do that in no time.

And, of course, the husband's company christmas party on saturday is formal. Bleh. But it gives me an excuse to dress up. And wear one of my creations. And make him wear one too.

Gah. Am making his now- a silver and blue chainmail tie to wear on saturday. OMG, it's going to look AWESOME. (it's SOOOOooo going to be a clip on, lol)

BUT. I can't work on it any more tonight. After a bit of set-up to get it going, another 2.5 hours later my fingers are revolting and not letting me continue until tomorrow. The design is one I made up, and am rather proud of, and so far is looking to do exactly what I want- be simple, but look complicated and more intricate than it actually is. So far so good, but given the progress I've made in two and a half hours, I'm estimating I've another 8 ahead of me. *faints* *twitches*

When its done, I will see if I can't get a REALLY good pic of it (yeah right) so you can really see the detail, but don't expect TOO much. We'll see. But I'll still post at least a decent(ish, given my phone) pic of it anyway! Goodness knows I'm going to be proud of it when it's done, lol.

Okay.... I'm off to bed now. Want to get up early to get some work in before heading to lunch to meet the sis-in-law's boyfriend.

Laters!

Let's see...

Found my chainmail stuff, which is good, as I have a piece or two I'd like to finish, and one or two I'd like to try. (Especially regarding the bottlecaps) I will probably do that sometime during the day tomorrow -today, TECHnically- before I head over to Will's for Movie Night.

Of course, there's the chance that I will take it with me and work on it there, too, since we don't always get to the movie until waaaayyy late, lol.

Regarding doing my own renditions of DC's/Gaiman's Endless:
I've posted my version of Destiny, though I may print a copy for myself and see what I can do about inking and/or coloring her. Maybe. Depends on how my time goes.

Also, I have started my piece for Delirium, and I really like how it's going. I've got the pose and everything else, and am now just down to figuring out HOW I want to clothe the figure. It'll be wacky, of course, but the trick is for it to be a cool "that works, somehow" kind of wacky, and not a "OMG, MUST STAB MY EYES" kind of wacky. And believe me, that's harder than it sounds!

's piece: Is now just waiting for me to be able to afford the supplies for the actual piece. Which, incidentally, may take longer than expected. Sorry, Sun! Though I may go and turn the planning sketch into an actual finished piece in the meantime, to make up for it.

Beyond that, the job hunt continues. At this point, I am seriously debating seeing if UPS is hiring. 35-40lbs I can handle, probably 50 as well. 70 might be pushing it, but who knows. If I could get a job there, it'd be part time, with luck the sunrise shift (3:30a to 8:30a), and only around $100 a week... but $100 a week is better than 0 a week, right?

And if I got it, I could build up my strength a bit, still have time for interviews for a more permanent/full-time job, or a second part-time job, still be able to work on art stuff, AND still be able to see my husband!

So I may go look into that next week sometime.

Aaaannnnddd.....

Yeah. That's pretty much about all the news I have. So... Later ya'll!

So. I need some extra cash, I have time on my hands, and due to a surprisingly low level of stress, I'm in a particularly creative sort of mood.

In light of this, I have decided to start doing some commissions. So, here's the rundown:

8x10 Black and White
* Portrait, from waist up: $10.00
* Full Body, portrait or pose: $15.00
* +$5.00 per extra character in the same picture, max of 3 total characters please

8x10 Color
* Portrait, from waist up: $20.00
* Full Body, portrait or pose: $25.00
* +$10.00 per extra character in the same picture, again, max of 3 total characters, please

Simple(ish) Tattoo Design: $10-20.00 depending on size and complexity.

NOTE: Backgrounds for B/W and Color will be extremely simple, if there is one at all.

Process
Note me with what you would like, (including at least one character reference per character) so I know how involved the piece will be, and I will let you know if I think i can do it, and about how long I think it will take. Once I've agreed to do it, I will add your name to the list. Then, when I sit down to start your piece, I will note/email you, and let you know about when to expect your piece, and where to send payment.

Timeframes
I expect these to take no more than a couple of weeks at the outside, and will keep you informed of progress made. If circumstances conspire to extend the time it will take me, I will let you know immediately how much longer it looks to take, and the reasons why.

Please be aware that cybernetic, robotic and mech type characters will probably take me a little longer as that is not something I normally draw.

Payment Paypal only for now, please (sorry for any inconvenience)
* Black and White: I ask for payment in full upfront
* Color, Single Character: I ask for payment in full upfront.
* Color, Multiple Characters: I ask for half upfront, with the rest due upon completion.

Upfront means when I let you now I'm starting your piece.

And of course, if you want to pay everything upfront and/or make your first payment before I start working on your piece, you are certainly welcome to do so.

I guess that about covers it.

Current Commissions:
1.
2.
3.
4.
5.
(will add more if needed)

First, still waiting. Apparently, the people decided to be stupid, and thus things have been delayed in me starting work. Go figure. And really, if you are going to lie, make sure the person you "tried" to contact but "couldn't" can't actually back up the fact that you did not, in fact, try at all. Seriously, people. *shakes her head*

Second, just for the heck of it, I decided to join 's x-mas art swap. I was driving home from the bank when I had to slow down and go around something sitting in the middle of the lane... When I first saw it, I thought it was a rock, but when I went by, I saw that it was actually a little stuffed sloth. He was just sitting there, all dazed looking and not knowing what to do. It was soo sad! so I stopped and picked him up and brought him home. His name is Mr. Slovinski, but we are going to call him Ivan for short. Unless, of course, he tells me otherwise. For now though, it seems to fit quite well. And he's sooooo cute. Mr. Flumpums (the stuffed elephant I rescued from a claw machine in vegas) seems to have taken a quick liking to him as well. I suspect it may have something to do with the fact that he feels a kinship given that Ivan was also rescued.

Other than that, not much to tell, really. Just waiting and trying to keep busy in the meantime.

Laters!

I've got the artwork done, and this evening (hush- I haven't gone to bed yet, so it's still night to me)I was able to get the blueprints done for Sun's project. Now, I just have to wait until I can afford the pick up the supplies.

And given the way things are going, that's looking to be a couple of weeks from now at best.

On the plus side, I have a job. It's temporary, but it's better than nothing and will help put money away what with the holidays and bills and such.

Only real downside is that it IS temporary (I'm not counting on anything permanent- it'd be nice, but planning for it to not be).

The really crappy part is that I know I have it, so instead of wondering IF I got the job and fretting about that, I know I have it. It's just a matter of the background check finally coming back, so I'm waiting to hear WHEN I start, which really has only served to let my mind become paranoid, wondering and fretting if I can really do the job like I think I can, and worrying that I won't learn the stuff fast enough, that kind of thing.

I know I can do it, and I'll pick it up quick enough... and my dad wouldn't have put my name in and had me fill out an app if he didn't think I could do it (since he does some of it also), but still. It's the way my mind works.

In any event, at least I have a job for a couple of months. Yay!

And the inlaws brought down a bunch of deer meat for us too, which helps. Our meat supply was looking pretty bare and fundage is on the low side, so the deer meat couldn't have come at a better time. Here's to small boons.

Okay, well, it's like, 4 am. I'm bored, wide awake and maybe hungry... so I'm off to go find SOMEthing to do.

The trip did not last as long as expected but that's okay. I at least now know where my sense of making things harder and more complicated than they need to be comes from (thanks dad! ).

It was hard, but I am glad I went, as it also gave me a chance to say goodbye to my grandfather who passed in 92. And I know my grandmother was glad I made the trip as well, because she told me as much via a musicbox I hadn't even touched. Which I promptly packed to come back home with me.

On the Potential side of things, there is a new project that looks to be in my future that I am hoping will do me a world of good. A friend approached me about something, and when she gets back from her own trip, I do believe I am going to take her up on it.

No details yet (sorry, gusy!), but I am hoping that it will not only give me something steady to do, but will help teach me self-discipline, as well as perhaps even help my improve my own drawing abilities. On top of which, it looks to be something that can teach me a multitude of other things as well that I've kind of been interested in for quite some time.

If all goes well, by this time next year, I could very well have something amazing to tell and/or show everyone. Details here: [link]

--END REMINDER--

Now, onto my update!

I decided to have a little fun last night. Well, okay, the night before, if you want to be technical since the clock says it's just after 1 am.

Anywho, since having discovered actual, honest to goodness 11x17 picture frames (for only $4, whoo hoo!), I've been slowly collecting them to put up artwork I've had sitting around the house for years.

And, of course, me being me and the frames being the frames.... It takes me a while to figure out exactly which one I want to put up and where. I know the husband is a little goofy, in that he's going to want to switch pictures out, but I plan on mine staying put.

Thankfully, though, despite the frames being pretty much ON the wall once I get the hangers nailed in (it's just because of hte type of frame and the type of hanger I'm using, but that's okay, because it means they don't really shift any), the pics CAN still be changed out. It's not the easiest thing in the world to do, but it can be done.

So anyway, I picked up 3 frames and in the process of trying to figure out what to put where, and which ones I wanted to go ahead and get up, I decided that at least ONE of them needed color.

See, I've got a lot of B/W prints. Most of them from one of my favorite artists whom I bug at DragonCon every year. I've got a few of his that are colored, but mostly I just get the b/w ones as they are cheaper. Or he doesn't have a colored version of the one(s) I want yet.

Well, the one I picked out that I decided NEEDED color before I put it up, I figured I'd see what I could do to color it myself. I don't have any nifty painty brush type pens like the ones I want yet, but I DO have some guache watercolors. I figured I could test it out a little on a small drawing pad I have, then try my hand at coloring the print.

What's the worst could have happened? I ruined it and am out the cost to replace the print?

So I cleaned off my art desk, lifted it up at an angle a bit, got out my watercolors, my brushes, my little ceramic jug for water, my little drawing pad to test colors/thickness of paint on, and went to work.

Bout probably an hour and a half, two hours later I had her done, and I'm quite pleased to say she turned out beautifully. I'm really happy with the result, and may even try coloring one or two more than I've got. (Of course, I may also wait until I get those pens, too, but we'll see.)

Now I just need to see if I can talk David into letting me post it. If nothing else, I can scan it and send it to him, so he can see how it turned out. *grin*

Of course, I may also be able to post PART of it just so you guys can see the coloring job, without seeing the whole print. But David loves me anyway, so I doubt at least THIS option will be much of an issue, but better to be safe than sorry.

So... until next time...

Later!

Well, I noticed today that I've hit 9000 pageviews. Pretty amazing for little ol me.

To which I want to thank EVERYONE. *Hugs for All*

It's taken me a while to get that far, and I know there aren't many people who watch me, which means you guys keep coming back to check on what I've been up to, which means more to me than I can say. And I guess 10K is a milestone that is deserving of SOMEthing.

SOooo.. with that in mind, I've decided to do the "trendy" thing and offer a free piece of original artwork to the person who makes that pageview counter read 10,000 (or as close as possible once it hits 10k). So naturally, I will need a screenshot to prove it.

Please keep in mind the following, though:

1. The piece is going to be fairly simple, but it WILL take me a while to do.

2. While I will most likely be doing the artwork for the piece myself, it IS possible that I might not. It depends on how my muse/hands decide to behave. Regardless of who does the artwork though, the actual piece you will receive WILL be hand-done by ME. (confusing, no? I love mysteries!)

Good luck everyone!

-LC

So I got caught up with housework that, heretofore has been left by the wayside in lieu of... well.. fun. And being tired when we got home from work. Now that I'm not working, I'm trying to use the time productively and get stuff done so that the house stops being quite so cluttered.

Hence why I didn't get this up sooner.

In any case, here's the deal. I'll put the thumbnail, what I'm asking for the piece, and the colors I have available to make it in currently. I shall endeavor to keep it updated with what colors stop being available, should that happen, so that you'll know what I have and don't have on hand. (I've put in the links as well, in case the thumbnails aren't working for some reason.)

If you are interested in a piece, note me with the colors of your choice. I'll confirm if what you want is do-able, and if it is, we'll go from there.

Especially if you want green, as I think some of my smaller green rings are missing, but on the off chance I am as low as it seems, i don't want to promise something I can't give.

So, here we go.

Reg= the normal size rings I use for the piece.
Small= smaller rings than I'd normally use
Large= larger rings than I'd normally use

Large/small will affect the price of most pieces as the overall size of the piece will remain essentially the same, unless otherwise noted.

1. Bottlecap Pendant
:thumb90084795: ( [link] )
$10.00 USD. Pendant only- no necklace.
Colors: Blue, Red, Yellow, Orange, Green, Silver (aluminum).
Notes: I can do customs on these if you supply the bottlecap/s you want done. (my stock of caps is currently limited to like 4 IBC Cream Soda, a single Bud Light, and one from a microbrew berry beer.)

2. Phoenix Wing Choker
:thumb74560013: ( [link] )
Reg: $15.00 USD
Large: $15.00 USD
Colors: Reg: Blue, Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, and Peacock Blue (very limited quantity)
Large: Blue, Orange, Yellow, Green, Gunmetal, Peacock Blue, Ice Blue (really limited quantity)and Black.
*Silver (alluminum) can be put in either Reg or Large if it's one of the "smaller" colors.
Notes: Nice, simple choker that doesn't require a clasp.
Large on this one also means that the piece itself will be bigger.

3. Diamond Pattern Inlay w/Crystals
:thumb68567000: ( [link] )
$27.00 USD
Colors: Blue, Green, Orange, Yellow, Peacock Blue, Black, Gunmetal (inlay only). Silver (alluminum) can be used as the inlay color, but as I haven't made one that way to see if there would be any rub-off, I would not reccomend it, unless you want the main diamond inlay to be two colors (which I can do).
Notes: Elegant enough to wear somewhere nice, but can still be worn whenever.

4. Arrow Stripe w/Crystal
:thumb73395470: ( [link] )
Reg: $30.00 USD
Large: $25.00 USD
Colors: Reg: Blue, Red, Yellow, Orange and Green
Large: Blue, Yellow, Orange, Green, Peacock Blue, Black, Gunmetal and Green.
Notes: Can be worn lower or higher on the neck as desired.

5. Rose-net w/Crytal and Scales:thumb69688148: ( [link] )
Reg: $35.00
Small: $40.00 USD
Colors: Rings: Blue, Black, Green, Orange, Yellow, Peacock Blue, and Red.
Scales: Blue, Black, Silver- please keep these especially in mind when deciding on color.
Notes: Another elegant one that can also be worn whenever.
The rosettes vary in size, so if you want a specific color where the larger ones are, and I don't have rings that color, I will shift the necklace down a size in terms of each size ring used. If I have to do this, it'll be the $40 because I will be using more rings/time to make sure the choker comes out to the right size.
If you don't mind it being smaller overall due to the ring size, then it will stay at the $35.00 price.

So, there ya go. It's what I can do atm, though remember to bear in mind things are first come, first serve. As I use materials, I may not necessarily have them available for the piece you want. So please don't get mad at me if that turns out to be the case.

Anyways, thanks in advance.

Partly, I wanted to clear that depressing journal off my page.

And partly, well... I just wanted to talk about something, and let my poor fingers rest for a bit before getting back to playing some CoH.

Anyway, the clix I mentioned are some custome Heroclix pieces I am working on for my husband. If I had a decent camera, I'd post some of the older ones I've done (way cooler Hawkgirl, and some I did before they came out with them in any set -Mary Marvel, G'nort, newer white-topped Supergirl, Superboy and a repaint or two)

The current project is a team called the Trenchcoat Brigade. They've alreayd put out a Phantom Stranger, but not the other three (four if you count the double fig I'm doing of Dr. Occult and Rose), and those are the ones I'm in the process of customizing.

Progress is as follows:

Constantine- Just needs to be painted and put on his base.

Mr. E- needs arm attached, stake put in other hand so that arm can be attached as well, and then to be painted.

Dr. Occult- Needs one arm attached, then a few seams re-examined to make sure they are smooth in his trenchcoat, then to be painted.

Rose Psychic (Dr. O's Wife)- Just needs to be painted.

After these are done, my next project in the realm of custom clix is... and I can't believe I agreed to this... Captain Carrot and the Zoo Crew. *hangs head* the things we do for the ones we love....

And of course, I've a few others I'm working on in between as well... A Huntress Noir heroclix, for example, and the husband wants one of his main hero Adam Noir, so I'll be getting that one done as well eventually. Plus a couple surprise ones too as I get around to it.

Now, as for the chokers... I've found it impossible to try and figure out what I'll be able to make, because who knows who might want what. So what I'll do is post the price of the pieces and the colors available, and if you want one, note me with the colors (changing the silver to a color or i can't sell it right now), and I'll let you know if I've got the materials available to do it.

I'll edit this entry and post that list probably tomorrow after I get back from lunch with the husband.

Well, that's all for now.

Laters!

Well, the temp company I currently work for called Thursday afternoon to let me know my current assignment was over effective, you guessed it, that day. (Now I just hope they'll let me in long enough to grab a couple personal effects!!)

So, I am once again without a job. I'll still get a paycheck this coming week, for this week's work, but after that.... I dunno. The way things are going, I have to admit I'm a little scared. I'm hoping like crazy I can find something soon, otherwise, we'll have no choice but to dip into the savings to pay bills.

Last time, for all the resumes I submitted and everything, I never even got a call back, let alone an interview. Maybe this time'll be different, but we'll see.

In the meantime, I'm going to see if I can't make a few necklaces that are mostly the annodized alluminum so I can actually try and sell them.

Nothing as ring intensive as the Phoenix Eye piece I sold, or the Rope Chain one, but a few of the others I can do, like the Choker with Crystals which seems to be popular. May do a bunch of the Pheonix Wings in other colors too. That one's simple but still really pretty.

Also the pendants, with whatever caps I happen to have on hand (which reminds me, i need to go buy some clear expoxy)... Someone already asked me about doing customs for those if they send me the caps, and I can do that as well, if you want one (or a few).

I'll sit down and get a list of what patterns I'm looking at being able to do with the supplies I have, and what I'd sell them for, and have that posted up here in a couple of days.

Until then, I hope ya'll are still enjoying your weekend/holiday.

Later.

Mmm... I've been insufferably pleased the last couple of days even if I haven't always shown it. Well... insufferably pleased and mystified, and perhaps a bit giddy as well. Kind of that "OMG Really???" feeling you get when something good happens and you can't quite believe it just did.

Yeah, okay, I know. I'm taking laps...

Anyway, I sold my first choker! *beams*

I still can't quite believe it, and I think I'm actually going to be a little bit in shock once I go to actually mail it, never to see it again... BUT, it's going to a good home (thank you ), so I know it'll pass, and the necklace will be well loved.

It's just kind of strange. When I first started my foray into chainmail, and discovered how much I loved it, I always thought of one day selling some of the stuff I made. But having to wait so long to save the money to make ring orders, and even then not getting as much as I wish I could (so many colors I want!), I just never thought I'd sell one this soon.

Heck, I've even already gotten an inquiry on my pendant! Well, the design, and if I could do custom ones, but still. It's pretty amazing to me.

And to top it off, I still haven't really learned much past the basic Euro 4-1 pattern. (Though I AM particularly fond of the rose-net pattern I did on that one necklace, and the Time and a Half one...)

I'm not really sure where I'm going with this, but I wanted to say something about the whole thing anyway. I just still can't quite believe I actually sold one. *grin*

Now I'm really hoping i can save the money to make a nice BIG ring order, full of tons of rings in LOTS of colors, and some silver ones in a different metal so I can start making the designs I've got up now as real pieces to sell, not just pattern pieces.

Will probably be after DragonCon though. That's where a lot of the saving is going toward right now. *nods* May have to finally... *cringes* ... limit .... my buying of art, just so I can make a huge ring order.

WOW. That should tell you something right there. That I'm willing to NOT buy art just to be able to get the supplies I need to really start trying to sell my stuff.

*sits back in shock*

Wow.

We'll see if it holds, though. I know me. I'm a huge patron of the arts, even if it IS only just prints and stuff... I may get up there and be weak.

Err... anyway, this turned out to be a bit longer than expected, but, oh well. LOL.

Laters!

I actually DO have some new work in progress. Not drawings, I'm afraid, but I've got a nice little pendant in the works that will be done just as soon as I figure out HOW it's done. From there, I might do some kind of set as well, but we'll see.
------
EDIT: I think I've figured it out- now i just need to play with it some, and see if what I'm going to use will actually work. *keeps her fingers crossed*
------

Also, I have a new necklace that needs to be posted which I finished at Rapier this weekend. Not sure if I'm going to put it on the wire like the others or not, though. So far, the tests seem to indicate that it would end up making it NOT lay how I want it to, but those were just prelims. Will probably fuss with that this evening so that I can get a few pics and get it posted here in the next day or two.
------
EDIT: Tis almost done! I need to take out a few rings, as something being too long turned out to be the culprit for it not laying right. Once I do that, I'll get a couple pics and post em.
------

It has, of course, naturally given me an idea or two for yet another necklace.... a fairly simple one, even, so maybe I'll have a second new necklace to post in the next week or two.

Long live chainmail, muses, and swarovsky crystals!! LOL.

As far as teh Pandas I promised you in the title... GO SEE KUNG FU PANDA! NOW!!! It is one the most awesomest CGI I've ever seen, and seriously ranks WAAAYYY up on my list of best animated movies ever.

So GO.

NOW.

That is all.

Laters!

First, I STILL want your recipes, if you have them!! Details here: [link]

Second, time for a bit of an update, I guess.

I've got a job, now. Started on Tuesday... it's temp, but for an undetermined length of time, which means it could be a couple of weeks, or a couple of months. Who knows. BUT, I'm enjoying it, and it's done something no other job I've had has done- kept me 100% totally busy. I don't have time to check unwork related email or anything else- I'm actually working ALL the time. I LOVE it. Who knows, if it goes long enough, maybe I will get lucky and they'll offer me a permanent position. Even if they don't, it is something for now. So I'm happy.

Also, I've got a new necklace in the works. It's probably about... a third done? I'm still working out some of the kinks in the main centerpiece's attachment, but when it's done, I really think I'll have outdone myself. *beams*

AAAaaaannnnnndddd..... Believe it or not, I've got a new drawing in the works. Yup, an actual drawing! I'm hoping to finish her up tonight before either a- the current Ninja Warrior marathon is over, and/or b- I finally decide to go do the dishes, which I've been avoiding. She's mostly done at the moment, though. Just getting details and finishing touches done. She's not in color like I was originally thinking, but that's okay, because I'm still loving the way she's coming out. *grins*

I'm just taking a break now because my wrist is killing me for some reason. Bleh. And I really don't wanna do the dishes...... but I've got to, since I will probably be too busy tomorrow to do it. I think a friend is going to come over and we may go out and do something, which means I should get them done tonight so I don't have to worry about them tomorrow. Though the hot water should do my wrist some good. At least that's a plus.

And whatever I do tomorrow, I'll be home in time for the new Ninja Warrior. I don't particuarly care about the american stuff and g4's contest to find people to go... For some reason, I've found it physically impossible to root for the americans. I honestly think I'd be upset and/or pissed if an american actually managed to win.

BUT... I still get to watch a ton of Ninja Warrior. To which I've only got three words-

Yamamoto, Takeda, and of course, my boy Nagano.

Oh yeah. (I know, I'm SUCH a total fangirl... I'd probably faint if I ever actually got to see them in person... but it'd so be worth it!! *swoons*)

Laters!

Okay, so... while talking with a friend online, I got hungry and decided to make me a snack.

Given my lack of fundage, it was by necessity one of my "poor woman's pizza"s. Primarily because we'd had soft tacos for dinner, and I happened to have the shells around.

So in discussing our respective versions of "poor person's pizza", the thought occured to me to see how other people made theirs.

This in turn made me decide, for no real reason, to put together a cookbook. Don't ask me to explain it, just roll with me on this one. I've been inspired so I'm running with it.

Anyway. We've all been there- living day to day on ramen and various other super cheap stuff. And being all different, I'd imagine we've all got our own versions of some of the standard fare, and wouldn't it be neat if we could see a cookbook with different variations all in one spot?

SOOOooooo.... Here's where ya'll come in, if'n you're willing.

I want your recipes... Poor man's pizza, Ramen (I've found I make them differently than most people), etc. How do YOU make them?? What do YOU use?? What other super cheap meals do you know how to make?

Please note me with your recipes, and how you would like to be credited (if you want me to use your real name, your dA name, etc). Oh, and any anectdotal stories you might have to go along with the recipes would be killer, too!!

I can't promise a free copy or any money or anything (you'd be pretty much donating your recipes as it sits right now), but I think it's a neat idea and would really like to do this.

And if you like the idea, spread the request and have people YOU know send me recipes. Or send them to you, which you can then pass on to me.

It's my hope that I'll be able to gather enough that I can put together a pretty decent little book. If I can find a way to sell it, that might be cool (in which case I'd revisit finding a way to compensate contributors for their recipes/stories, naturally) but if not, I think it'd still be a fun thing to put together regardless.

Sooo.. if you've got em and want to be a part of this, please, send me your recipes!

So... about a month ago, a friend got me to try something I've never done before. He took me for a ride on his bike. Crotch-rocket though it is, I really had a lot of fun, once I got used to the turns. I still don't like to idle at a light, because then I can HEAR the cars come up behind me, but overall, tis a ton of fun.

The reason I mention it is cuz when he gets done breaking up with his on/off gf (*keeps fingers crossed that he reallly does do it*) he's gonna head over here and take me for a ride.

See, it's been a crappy day. As of about noon today, I am ungainfully unemployed. This, after having slammed my thumb in the filing cabinet at work.

Yeah, it's been a day.

On the plus side, though, my Penguins are up 3-0 in their series against the Rangers, with a score of 5-3 for tonights game. This makes me happy.
First and foremost, if ANYONE has heard from Buckeyestar lately, please let me know he's still alive. Or better yet, chain him down and force him to write me. I haven't heard from him in a while, which is odd because he always answers my notes and such, so... yeah... I'm a hair worried.

Second- MegaCon.

It was quite a blast. Tame compared to what I am used to, but fun nonetheless. I accomplished a number of things which, for being the first year I've ever gone, makes it a super good one.

Things accomplished, in no particular order are:
1- Finally got to meet and in person, which I've been DYING to do for a few years now. They are totally awesome!

2- Found a copy of a comic that I've been relentlessly searching the cons for for about oh, six years now. In a SET, even. So I've got double copies of Trenchcoat Brigade issues 1,3, and 4, but I've got issue 2, so I'm happy.

3- scored a gargantuan black dragon for only $10.

4- tons of awesome artwork, one of which is one of only 20 prints the artist was allowed to make.

5- scored a free comic book (which reminds me, I need to go write that review), and as luck would have it, I really enjoyed it! So much so that I've seen the drawings for issue two, and told them that I'd hunt them down and force them to tell me the rest of the story if needbe.

6- got lucky enough that i managed to score one of 's (well, Identity Comics, really, since she did say one of them, not necessarily her, would do it) four free b/w sketches... Peng did mine, and her husband (which I assume from the "thing 2" shirt to her "thing 1" shirt) did my husbands. -An irony that only now dawns on me- and she did an amazing piece of Huntress. OMG it's AWESOME!!!! Now I just need to get the flatbed scanner from my friend, which he said he'd give me since it apparently doesn't like to work with Vista -hooray for me not using vista- so I can scan it, send it to her, and then show you guyses.

7- saw one of my favoritest artists whom I stalk relentlessly because a- he's good, and b- he's a damn riot, and commissioned him to do a drawing for me. Total inside joke, but damn if it isn't funny as hell to the people who were there for the initial spawning of hte concept. *evil grin* I'm so making a shirt out of it too. Hehehehehehe.

Third- Random Quotes.

1. "Sure, if by masculine you mean estrogen-like."
This comment was made by a kid (and by kid, I mean both boys were MAYBE 13 at the oldest) walking past me while I was looking at art.

2. My friend: "Seriously though, as much as we pick on him [my friend's boyfriend] for being a cheap ass, he really does have his good points."

Me: "So? My husband's the most wonderful man in the world. Doesn't change the fact that he's an inconsiderate asshole."

Because really, sometimes it's the random quotes that keep life funny.

Umm... okay, that's all for now, I guess. Laters.

Just, please, let me know if Buckeye's still alive, kk?

A statement which, in all honestly, it totally, completely and 100% false.

It's a statement that's made and repeated over and over again, in a desperate attempt to remain in blissful denial. It's a defense mechanism, meant to repress feelings of pain and loss, so that you can go about your life without dwelling on the hurt.

But it's still a falsehood, and no matter how many times I repeat it to myself, I still know it's just not true.

Maggie wasn't just a dog. She, like any other pet, was a part of the family. She may not have always been the brightest crayon in the box, but she had heart, and personality.

I remember how mom used to call her buzzard bait, because she'd run in circles, looking up and barking at the buzzards as they'd circle on the thermals. Mom always joked that one day she'd bark at them too much, and one would swoop down and get her.

And I remember how after we had to put Coal to sleep, she became listless, and uninterested in playing like she used to do. Can't blame her- she lost her best friend after all. In the last year or two, i guess, it seemed maybe that wound was finally starting to heal a bit... I mean, she's always been okay... it's just that perhaps she'd finally learned to move on more than she had previously.

It's always hard to lose a member of the family.

But even more so, when you have to make that choice. And knowing that it's what is best, that they won't be in pain any longer, that they will be happier and be able to see their old and long lost friends again... That they won't have to suffer until the inevitable slow end....

It doesn't make it a damn bit easier. Or less painful.

I know... I know it was the best thing for her. Her vet, who we've been taking our pets to for 15 years, made a special trip into the office today, just so he could be the one to do it.

She may not have been the smartest of dogs... but she really was a sweet, lovable mutt.

And I'm going to miss her.

R.I.P. The roasted duck specifically, as that is what I had, though it's not for the faint of heart! LOL. Like the husband said- at least they removed the organs. *grin* Yeah, all the bones were in it, but that's fine. Not much different than when I deep fry a game hen, so no biggie. And the seseme seared tuna was really good as well. Our next outing there looks to be a saturday lunch where we are going to try the dim sum. I'm strangely curious to try the pheonix talons in particular....

The bruise on my knee is still quite purple, and very much there. It still hurts like hell if I hit it or try and kneel on it, or bend my knee in pants where the leg is really fitted to me, and right were the impact site is, I still barely have any feeling in the skin. Eeesh... It's been quite some time since I've had a bruise quite like this one! LOL.

Still working on my cross-stitch, still planning to get my drop spindle from my mom and start spinning some yarn for crocheting... doodling here and there (which reminds me- I have new slugbies to upload!), and reading some books.

All in all, things are still pretty quiet.

Though now that my sub has run (I'll fix that this weekend, after I get back from the Scottish Highland Games), dA is officially being STUPID. ARG. I'm not hitting ANY keys but the ones I am typing with, and half the time, when that stupid ad up top changes, it knocks me OUT of being able to type!

Grrr......

Okay, rant over, LOL.

Anywho, I'll be around.

Laters!

Mostly, it's because I get home and just get busy or who knows what. So don't worry, I'm still here, and still doing stuff.

I'm loving my new job. I still feel a little lost on some stuff, but that's okay. I'm learning every day, and the boss is thinking about having us take a day off during the week, and coming in on a saturday so that he can get a chance to really sit down with us and truly teach us some stuff. He's been so swamped, we've been kind of learning as we go, so I think the idea of a saturday like that is a great idea, and will really help us all out a lot.

It's been nice though, waking up, and groaning at the clock "I don't wanna get up yet" instead of "gods I really don't want to go to work to day." I consider that a rather distinct improvement, don't you? *grin* But this getting up 2 hours earlier than I used to is killing me, LOL. I used to "get up" when my husband left, and then slowly wake myself up by setting my alarm for certain intervals. Now that we're getting up at the same time, I can't do that. haha. Oh well. I like going to work again, so it's all good.

On the art front... I started some crosstitch pieces, so I've been working on those. Though I did get the pattern for my next choker figured out at least. Also, there was an Alpaca Expo this past weekend here in town, and now I've got some really nice fleece to spin into yarn (YES, I know how to do that, lol)... which I am thinking about crocheting and dyeing to combine with the chainmail. (I KNOW! I'm just so multi-talented!! )

Also, I learned how to felt... which is basically taking the raw wool (or any fiber really) and making felt by hand... really slowly.... with a (that's right- A) special needle. I could get a holder that actually holds up to five needles at a time, but atm, I just can't justify the $17 they want for it. But anyway, I'm having some fun with that, too, and am slowly making a felt Slugby, just for grins. I'm thinking about making a nice little purse, as well, but we'll see. That'll be SUPER time consuming!!

Speaking of slugbies, I have some more drawn up (gah! which reminds me, I need to do some for V-Day!!) so I'll try to remember to bring those home soon and get them scanned.

On the home front.... got the shelves purchased for the back room. Now, I need to paint the section of wall (we picked a really pretty light blue) where they are going to go, and go buy the hardware to put them up... in the meantime, I need to sand and stain the shelves, but given how things are looking, it may be the end of Feb before that gets done. But we'll see. Since I don't game on sundays anymore, I may take it upon myself to at least sand and stain the shelves...

Beyond that, not a lot going on... though I apparently decided to test gravity today.

For the record: It's still working properly.

And I've got a nice huge bruised knot on my knee to show for it, too. Oh well... it hasn't happened in over 8 years, so I guess I was about due, LOL. Overall, nothing truly wounded but my pride anyway. I just wish my flight instinct would pick a leveler spot to kick in next time...

But it did teach me something- a couple somethings, in fact. One- that I apparently still have triggers that can send me into a panic attack, or, as was the case today, instigate a fight or flight instinct, and two- I don't mind doing field notes..... JUST so long as there's someone else there to do the measuring across streets. Especially BIG streets. With LOTS of traffic. *nods*

Anyway, that's about it for now.

Laters!

--------------------------------------------------------------

Current Projects:

Poem Piece- probably... 85-90%? done. I may work on something Saturday, but maybe not. Depends on how my hand feels. I already suspect it'll be sore as hell tomorrow, my wrist especially.

But that's ok. It's worth it.

Even going to my mom, hanging my head and saying "you were right... it wasn't that bad" is worth it.

*grin*

LOL. Got a new tattoo tonight. My gift to me for a better job, and because I wont be working at a law firm anymore, so I could actually get one on my hand and be okay...

I've known what I wanted there for ages, it was just a matter of getting the design JUST right, and being in a position where I wouldn't be in trouble for it.

So while I was killing time today at work (my last day, yay!) I did a quick sketch, and got it on the first try!! (well, if you don't count all the ones I did last night that I didn't like.)

But yeah, it's an eye of ra. Anyone who knows me really well (and maybe not so well) won't be surprised. *grin*

I've uploaded a scan of the design, but I'll take a pic tomorrow once I take the plastic wrap off so you can see how it looks.

I LOVE it!!!

--------------------------------------------------------------

Current Projects:

Poem Piece- probably... 85-90%? done. LOL. But 'tis much appropriate.

See... an idea I had for the new choker I posted, but ultimately decided would be too much, gave me the idea of yet another one. With a kind of "drop" theme to it.

And then, playing receptionist today, in the course of transcribing some world notes from pencil to pen, I got a few more details worked out for how something in my world works. Granted, it's probably mostly OOC notes, and stuff that perhaps only I will ever know, but still- I was writing, and figuring things out, and that's what counts, however little that bit is.

And hey, anything that gets me to go back and relook over everything, and start figuring out more stuff is a good thing, right? There have been a ton of journals about Heath Ledger, and this just adds to it, but...

This is a forum for artists, and as an artist, I just feel the need to talk.

When I first heard that someone had died, my radio was turned down really low, and so I didn't catch the name. For some reason, I assumed it was someone (most likely the lead singer) in the band who did the song that had just been played.... so I didn't really think much about it.

Then, I got home, and the regular commercials for eXtra! came on, and right off they mentioned the death of Heath Ledger. I was stunned.

I just couldn't believe what I was hearing.

I'm still stunned, a bit in shock, and still trying to wrap my head around it.

Normally, when someone whose work I enjoy passes, I find it sad, go "oh man... that sucks...." and go on about my life for the most part. So I've been trying to figure out why it is I feel so affected by this on such a deep level.

I think I've figured it out- he was part of my generation. He was someone with such a range of talent that you saw the character, not him. And, for some insidiously stupid reason I'm sure, it almost seems as though perhaps we were given a glimpse of who he was through the roles he accepted and brought to life.

10 Things I Hate About You (the first movie I ever saw him in) came out, what? Almost 10 years ago now? So for someone in my generation, you could almost say we grew up with him, from his days of doing "teen" movies to the more serious and dramatic roles, just as we went from our teen years to more serious and dramatic lives as adults thrust into the "real world."

In some ways, silly as it may sound, it's almost as if there was a sort of connection. Not on any personal level, obviously, as I was never lucky enough to even see him about, let alone meet him... but on a more cognitive level.

And now, to think that he's not there any more... that someone only a bit older than I whom I admire so much is gone so suddenly, out of nowhere, without any warning...... to think that we won't get to finish growing up with him...

It's an eye opener. A reality check. A reminder of our own mortality, no matter our age... It's sobering, really.

So while I never met him, or saw him or spoke with him, I feel the loss of his creative spark and talented soul quite deeply, in a way I never have before.

May he rest in peace.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Current Projects:

Poem Piece- probably... 85-90%? done.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Although not Jan. 1st, the months of Jan and Feb are close enough to it that they can still be termed as "starting the year."

So, to that end, it would appear 2008 has started off to be a year of changes.

First, I cut my hair. And by cut, I mean it's shorter, and actually STYLED. Like, an actual hairstyle. It's kind of weird, as I've never done that before. It's either been long or shortish... I'll try and have a decent pic up later, but for an idea, go look up Crush from the new American Gladiators. Her hair's finer than mine, I think, and mine's a bit shorter, but essentially the same. It's different for me, but I like it, and it's really cute. Just going to take a little getting used to.

Second, I start my new job on the 4th! Got it all confirmed and everything yesterday. I'm really looking forward to it, and hope it works out for me. It's a bit of a pay increase for me, but mainly, I get to be doing drafting type stuff!! *dances* I took three years of drafting when I was in high school and loved it. It'll be nice that I can finally do something with that now. So wish me luck that everything works out for me!!

Other changes recently or forthcoming in the near future include: a new attitude about the house and a concentrated effort to get it cleaned and KEEP it that way, a small morning excercise routine that's realistic an easy for me to keep (2 weeks and still going!), and of course the new choker designs. I would like to add one or two more to that list, such as an afternoon routine of walking either outside or on the treadmill, but we'll see how it goes. Baby steps and all that.

Well, that's all for now.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Art Front:
Haven't done a lot, though I did manage to pilfer some nice oil pastels from an abandoned house nearby. I'd like to start doing some more, but I think it's just going to have to take a back seat for now as I work on steadily getting the house cleaned.

House Front:
Progress is slow, but we've kept the spare bedroom essentially spotless since we cleaned it out and painted it, which is a major step forward for us. Living room and dining room are now to where picking them up only takes about 15 minutes- just need to work on the clutter part (we have a TON of clutter). Back room... Ugh, my nightmare. My corner is still progressing, albeit slowly. I hope to get back there a couple nights this week to do trash detail for the rest of the room. Should make me feel a lot better in that regard.

Archeological Front:
Found a nicely weather-cleaned squirrel skull in the back yard, complete with bottom jaw. Dunno that I'll ever find the rest of the upper teeth, but I've got one, and all the bottom, so that's cool. *grin* I know. I'm weird.

Job Front:
There may or may not be some changes on the way. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, but not getting my hopes up, just in case. We'll have to see as it's all still really up in the air right now.

Jewelry Front, with a couple questions:
Ah, my favorite front... *grin* I'm already working on my next piece, and so far, it's going fairly well. I'm LOVING my new rings and the colors. Such fun!

Hopefully, there will be some changes to this front here soon as well. I really would like to start selling them sometime soon (like within the first quarter or half of the year). But a lot will depend on how the finances go, what with plans for the house and other such things.

Also, this is because I've been using aluminum rings. Which are great in that they are lightweight, and I get a TON of them per ounce, so I can make fairly small ring orders and still make a bunch of pieces. The con to aluminum is that unless it's annodized (colored), it leaves dark marks when worn. Skin, clothing, doesn't matter.

Up to this point, it hasn't mattered, because every piece I've made, and all the ones I have in my head, are just prototypes. They're for me to wear and show off, and most importantly to give me a set pattern for each one.

If I'm going to sell them, however, I don't want a metal that's going to rub off on people. And unfortunately, to get the quantities I need in a different metal, it'll be a bit more expensive upfront when I make my ring orders (about 1400 rings/oz for aluminum, vs a little over 400 rings/oz for most other metals).

So my first question is this- If you were to buy one, would you be willing:
A) to pay upfront, either half or in whole, and
B) to wait up three or four weeks (before I ship it)
to allow me to have the money to get the necessary parts- especially if i don't have enough on hand- and allow for the time it would take to get them (the order'd be rushed so it would ship as soon as possible, but I may not always be able to afford expedited shipping, and even then, it'd still probably be a week and a half to two weeks before I could ship the piece to you)?

And my second question-
For my newest piece, the Phoenix Wing choker

My husband suggested that I take out the wire part in the middle between the wings. Now, I can do that, and mold a wire segment to fit the contour of the wings to keep the piece as it should, but my question is, what do YOU all think about that suggestion? Should I try it? Do you think it might look better/worse/just as good, or at least be a nice option? Inquiring minds want to know.

And... I think that'll bout do it for me today. Later ya'll! I look forward...

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

Shush- I needed a title for the journal and couldn't come up with anything better that I hadn't already used.

Though I guess it's sort of appropriate. I got started on my corner this weekend. Didn't do as much as I could have/would have liked, but part of that is because we don't really have much light in the back room, and I hate cleaning when I can't see well. On the plus side, I've already got about a bag and a half of trash, with more on the way.

Got a giant blue bin that I'm cleaning out tonight, so I suspect that once that's done, it will be full again by the time I go to bed, as I am going to use it for more craft stuff storage. But ONLY craft stuff. By which I mean material, wires, beads, costume stuff, and anything else for actual ART/CRAFT projects. No extra crap/paperwork/stuff I don't have room for elsewhere/stuff I still need to go through/etc.

Also, I've been horribly lazy, so I'm finally taking down the tree tonight as well. *nods*

Then, if all goes well, I'll hopefully have at least the cleaning part done tonight so I can go play around a bit in Paragon. Not sure what character/server though- will depend probably on if the husband wants to play or not. If he does, I wanna try at get at least up to 5th or 6th level with our new characters on Champion. (Oh hush- I actually have a legitimate reason for playing there upon occasion now)

If not, then I'll probably be on with Huntress (in one form/server or another), or Fire. Or someone... In any case, I won't be hiding, so if you have my global you can find me.

Or, I could just say "frag it" for tonight, and play with my new rings instead. *grin* (Tracking said they left UPS for my house at like, 9:30 this morning, so it's just a matter of where on the route I fall today! *squeal*) Maybe see if I can't find a new weave or two to play with as well.

But we'll see. First things first- must get cleaning done before I can do anything fun.
* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

I get my rings on Monday, I get my rings on Monday! *dances*

I'm so exited, I can't wait. There's a couple of ideas that have been percolating in the back of my head that I'm really looking forward to trying out.

One's probably a little cliche, but damnit, sometimes I LIKE cliche. The other I had only a day or two ago, and has more to do with the different sizes of rings rather than the color (though color will definately be part of it!) but will be SWEET once I figure it out.

Unfortunately, I didn't get any purple, so the idea I just had will have to wait... *scrunches eyes and sticks out her tongue* But that's okay. I'll write it down and save it for later.

EDIT: Checked tracking- says it left Canada this morning, so unless something amazing happens, I might not get them til tomorrow.... But that's fine. Not too worried about that. It'll give me more time to work on my corner before they get here.

In other news: [link] I rest my case.

Tonight (tomorrow definately if I don't do it tonight), I start work on my corner of the back room.... *shudder* If I can get that corner cleaned out, I will have storage space for all my fig stuff- paints, figs, brushes, flocking, etc., as well as room/storage for my modeling stuff (maybe one day soon I'll get my cars of the appocolypse, Vampire Van, and my Dragon Wagon done, LOL. After the husband's dark elf team, that is), and with luck, some of my craft stuff too. Also.. it'll be fairly -I hope- organized, and most importantly, CLEAN.

So if I seem traumatized in the coming days, that would be why, as I will have to force myself to overcome my pack-rat, I'm-going-to-put-this-into-a-scrapbook-one-of-these-days nature. *nods* Another resolution that I'm going to seriously hunker down and work on this year.

I am estimating at least two full trash bags by the time I'm finished.

Then once that corner's done, I can proceed to other areas of the back room. But my main target right now is my corner. Anyone who's been to my house IRL KNOWS, lol. Wish me luck.

EDIT/UPDATE: Got started on it... probably 1/4 to 1/3 done, and already started the second trash bag. We'll see how tonight goes.

Later, ya'll.

--------------------------------------------------------------

* * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *

But not a new me. A better me, perhaps, by the end, but not a new me. I'm pretty happy with me, overall, so it will hopefully be a year of improvements. If not, at least it will not be a year of changes.

Already though, this new year starts off with omens of an uncertain stance.

I am confused about something that needs sorting out in my head, but the problem is that I do not feel confused. I feel only as though my mind is staring blankly at the issue, just trying to figure out if it is even a problem at all, and indeed whether or not it actually needs figuring out in the first place. It is a strange, and ironically peaceful, corner of existence in which I currently reside...

Also, someone was in my car today. I don't know who, but it had to have been someone. In all the two years I've had the gate opener on my visor, and all the long months in between me pushing the clip back as far as it could go against the visor, it has never once moved more than a quarter of an inch out, if that. Never. So someone had to have pushed it the almost two inches needed to pop it off of my visor. And it wasn't me, as my hand was nowhere near it when it popped off. It also fell further out than it would had it just slipped lose on it's own and fell. I know, because I tested it myself after it came down initially. What bothers me (yet doesn't bother me at the same time), is that I wasn't able to sense anything. No presence, no energy, nothing.

And then, of course, fate has seen fit at this time to reunite me with an old friend of mine, whom I have not spoken at length with in quite some time. By which I mean we have gotten fully back in contact again. And in light of recent conversation, I am both greatly amused, and highly flattered. I had known of what was spoken of... well, since day one, really, though until today I did not know of the extent. All in all, a rather pleasant surprise that should make this coming year both entertaining and interesting.

I know, I know. I am being cryptic. But really, I wouldn't be me if I wasn't. It's how I am when I wish (or need) to share something, but do not want to devulge the full details for whatever reason.

The past two days have given me much to think over, and perhaps that is why my mind feels like it's just staring blankly into a space so full that it seems empty.

New Year's has always been for me a time of reflection and introspection. A time when I take a look at where I've been, what I've done, how I feel... and where I'm going or might go in the future.

In that respect, I've probably grown into myself more in the last year than in any other year, and it's a bit humbling. A little scary, too, but also very calming as I become more and more familiar and more and more comfortable with myself. I can only hope that 2008 will be as good to me on such a personal level as 2007 was, even with all of it's pitfalls and hurdles.

I hope that everyone else gets to learn something new about themselves in the coming year. After all, it is only when we grow individually that we are able to grow together.

And so ends my first journal of the new year. May you all enjoy peace of self, good health, and happiness in the coming months.
