I may or may not have mentioned Flight Rising before. Flight Rising is a new (as in, not yet open) browser game with dragons. Yes, that's right. DRAGONS.
Apart from the sheer awesomeness of that alone, they have something called skins.
A skin, in Flight Rising, is like a piece of apparel. It's the lineart and shadowing of the dragon, but with a completely cusom-made pattern, with custom colours etc. You download a file with the dragon you want to create a skin for, and as long as you leave the lineart and shadows alone and don't use jet black, pictures etc and keep it reasonable, you're free to make whatever you want. Comparing a 340-page stand-alone book like Scales with a work of such magnitude as Steven Erikson's Malazan Book of the Fallen series is probably not the right thing to do, but the first of Erikson's books, Gardens of the Moon, has much in common with Scales. however, Scales is nowhere near evoking the same sense of VASTNESS as Gardens.
