Here are my 2 cents (Canadian)

Portus

Summary: What if you found a video game that could kill you? Well that's what happens in Portus. A girl name Chiharu suddenly stops coming to an art club. She can't be reached by phone or text or anything. Then she appears all freaked out. Says she's been playing a game called "portus". "Portus" is said to contain a level. And if you reach it a boy will come out. And ask you if you'd like to join him. Say yes and you die. Anyway back and freaked she freaks out while drawing with her friend Asami. Chiharu then goes home with a figure lingering in the shadows. Next day she is discovered having committed suicide. Asami goes into Chiharu's room and finds portus. She knows something is going on.

Rating:7/10

Although the story did keep a hold of me. There are still some question at the end. Maybe if i read it again i find the answers. After all it is a seinen and this happens often with seinen manga. But this is a personal plus, it's only one volume. For a manga like this it wouldn't work if it was longer.

Gyo

Summary: What if aquatic creatures gained the the ability to walk? In Gyo a foul stench is in the air, like human corpses. While scuba diving Tadashi is almost hit by a fast moving object, he's unable to tell what it is. After almost being eaten by sharks he and his girlfriend, Kaori, go back to land. At night she and Tadashi fight she goes out(Tadashi follows) where she encounters a fast moving object. As well as a stench. After the encounter They both go back to the house they're staying in. The creature blur follows them. Tadashi kill it, or so he thinks. It's a fish with legs.

Rating: 5/10
Since this is only volume 1 i can't give a full rating. But so far the story is interesting. Though it lacked surprises I was able to figure out what was going to happen next before it was revealed. So i was a bit disappointed. though it does end with you wanting to read volume 2.

Uzumaki

Summary: Obsessions are bad. Especially when they end up killing you. In Gyo it stars of with the Suichi's father's obsession. An obsession with spirals. He's found just staring at an empty snail shell. He become so obsessed with spirals he gets angry when his soup doesn't have a spiral fishcake in it. He makes him self happy be spinning the soup. Also before taking baths he stirs the water. He also has a massive spiral collection that he stares at for hours. And when it's tossed out he reveals he can turn his body into spirals. He spins he eyes. Each eye spinning independently. Then it is tongue. The eventually kills himself by turning his body into a spiral. This then lead to his wife phobia of spirals. And the spirals obsession affect other people as we'll. Always leading to their deaths.

Rating: 10/10 Now this is the best of the three. Its by the author of Gyo. Though he does a much better job in this one. I admit this one did scare me to an extent. The idea that these people we killed by a pattern is what does it. It's a nice step away from a typical murder type stuff. Again this is just volume one. But I can't wait to get volume 2. Plus the first pages are in color. (in case you didn't know or couldn't figure it out Uzumaki means spirall. Who knew.)

Waiting for classes at the university to start, not until AUG. 22. I'm going into 3-D animation, but first year is more of a test of two options between graphic design and 3-D animation. I originally wanted to go to the Art institute of Dallas, but that would have left with a debt of around $100,000. So I ended up at The University of the Incarnate Word.
