Round 1 sees me against ~Baxtardarkdragon

I had actually hoped to face Baxter in AFL2 but never had the opportunity, so I was actually pleased to see him as my first opponent - especially considering my chosen character this time round comes from a Fantasy RPG setting.

This fight takes place in an abandoned factory of all places, so I have Final Fantasy VI's Magitek Factory music [link] playinhg through my head.

I have one more Secret Wars page to complete for this month, and my fight with Baxtar will follow shortly afterwards.

Baxtar himself has already finished his picture for this fight

I'm vague, I'm ambiguous, and I'm often too caught up in the web to realise what I should or could be doing with my life.
Here's a rare open and honest wall of text about the things that matter to me right now

Romance: All is well with my lovelife, I've just spend the weekend with =Demon-Sheep-Studio for her 20th birthday. We're hoping to (finally) go away together this year~
Unfortunately, plans to move in with her any time soon have changed from practically non existant to actually non existant because...

Work: I'm getting a 10% pay cut. Everyone where I work is - apart from the unfortunate 20 who are being made redundant. Getting a new job is out of the question right now. All this is of course because...

Economy: Well shit. I live a very sheltered existance, so when something from the big scary outside world starts affecting my life, of course I worry. This whole situation is, in my opinion, nothing more than the inevitable Karmic payback for a society that went horribly horribly wrong.
Something about the world we live in never did sit quite right with me - and I think this is it. Fortunately, I appear to have found a community that I do want to be a part of...

Spirituality: Okay, for me this is big, this is massive - I have always had my own beliefs, moral codes, and spiritual ideas, and have always been pretty negative about making any sort of religious commitment - until I actually found a religion with beliefs, moral codes, and spiritual ideas similar to my own - Paganism.
Like I said, this is a huge deal - I'm taking alot of time to think this one over, and make sure I'm doing the right thing for the right reasons before making that commitment.
Meanwhile...

The equivelant of 19 earth years

Ecruosian (resembles human)

Appearance
1) If this character were to suddenly become part of the real world, and ended up in a heavily-populated area, how many stares would he/she get?
A fair few, for various reasons

Other than being twisted and sinister, yes perfectly normal

3) What would be his/her most recognizable feature(s)?
Probably the red hair =/

Personality
1) Temper?
She's prone to snapping. If she has a full on tantrum, you must have been trying to piss her off

She can be moody, but it's not likely to be because of any self-confidence issues.

Devoted follower of her Master, Lord Noir.

You could say she's bipolar - gleeful one minute, upset the next... never calm or rational

History

An older brother, Crimson, born with the sacred Lord's Eye mark on his right hand - Scarlet was always jealous of this! His whereabouts are currently unknown.
Their parants died in the Ecruosian civil war - some say at the hands of their own daughter!

She is now one of the four False Lords of Ecruos, the other 3 being Violet, Teal, and their master Noir.

3) Has he/she encountered any traumatizing events?
Not in this life, although an ancient interplanetary war is etched into the memories of all Ecruosians.

It is highly unlikely that I will complete my audition. Sorry, I'm just not feeling it. If I can't get motivated to get the audition done, you can imagine the spectacular fail that will happen come tourneytime. ~CyrilTheWizard has specifically said he doesn't want any forfeiters, and right now I can't make any guaruntees.
I'll still be watching... got folks to root on!

Now, the last time I said I was taking a hiatus, I came back with some arts a few days later. I can't say for sure that this will be the case again, but with no commitments I'm more likely to work on stuff that I want to do without feeling guilty about what I 'should' be doing.

I will be trying to finish at least one picture for *AngelCrusher's art jam, but I'll probably sit the next couple months out, jumping back in for AFL3

You can guess what's coming right? FULL ON PCBC INTRO! (sort of)

The Problem: Drawing 900 frames by hand, scanning and colouring them, before dumping them into flash would be a pain. Lowering the framerate would ease this a tiny bit. Making this look good by drawing it all straight to flash using only a laptop mousepad would be a struggle too. I'll try and figure something out to make it easier on me without resulting in suck.

No Promises: If you know me, you know I'm prone to giving up. Even if I don't, you know this will take a while. I'll try and at least do a sketchy animatic.

The other issue: Some PCBC trainers/teams just fit in to some parts of the original intro better than others. We still have gaps though, and I unfortunately won't be able to feature everyone. I'm sure this won't bother alot of you too much, but if you want in let me know ASAP and I'll try and find a suitable spot for you.

I'm going to try hard not to worry about stuff that might screw up. In fact, there isn't an awful lot that could go wrong, and between myself and the rest of PCBC staff we have all angles covered. Meanwhile, I need to get on with stuff.

The OC match between myself and =Demon-Sheep-Studio is now being sanctioned by *OCBC, which means external judges are no longer required and more people will be watching that.
*AngelCrusher's speed dating art jam begins, so I have to hook up Tierra with a bunch of people (or at least one) before the month ends.
Also, *I-D-D's application deadline is at the end of this.
I have some time off in a couple of weeks, so I'll try and get as much of that stuff done then.

As soon as I do complete my audition, I might challenge someone to a match for ~OCSSL - You should at least join there because you're not obliged to battle unless you have time for it, and you agree with your opponent on how long you have to work on the match. Basically you do it at a timescale you can work to. Ideal for BUSY PROFESSIONALS like us

It looks like I made the right choice creating a Pokémon OC tournament instead of DeviantKART - this looks way better than what I would've come up with.

I was supposed to be taking a break for participating in these things until next year, but maybe I was just waiting for the right competition to come along. This one's gonna be tough, but I'm ready to push my art to new limits again.

Aaaanyway, Sonic Chronicles: The Dark Brotherhood, Nintendo DS...
So far = dissapointing
It sounds godawful. It's not often I play games with the sound down. Sonic games often have great music, and in some recent titles the music has been the best thing about the game!
Not here I'm afraid, the music so far is not memorable at all, and the sound effects are appaling. I was going to critisise it for not having voiceovers like Final Fantasy 4, but that might be a blessing here. There is however a rearrangement of one of my favourite Sonic tunes from all time; 'Diamond Dust' the ice level from Sonic 3D. Unfortunately they slaughtered it, and on top of this they made it the BGM for a city area which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever!
There seems to be no consistancy to the battle music either. I've heard about 5 different tunes in battles, and I can't for the life of me figure out what determines the music that plays.
Speaking of inconsistancy, why couldn't they decide on a single art style to use? The area maps were apparently hand painted and are certainly very pretty to look at. The 3D character models don't look too out of place I guess. The character art for menus and dialogue scenes look like they're straight out of Sonic X and nothing like the promo/concept/cover art, which is what they should have stuck with. On top of this the cutscenes look like some kind of flash-comic thing a-la Elite Beat Agents.
Speaking of Elite Beat Agents, I'm sure some of you may know that the special action in battle are performed by EBA-style touch screen antics, which isn't too bad, but the fact that taps and slides don't coincide with the music makes it a little more difficult to time.
Okay that last bit was me being nitpicky, and I am still only on the "tutorial/point out the obvious" Chapter ,but this game is still rough around the edges.
Bioware needed more time to work on the game, and I'm going to need more time to get used to it. I'm sure it gets better

In other news, Collectormania is on this weekend. It's come around so quickly and I've been so busy I didn't even realise. It doesn't help of course that I was working today
I'll be going tomorrow though. Some stalls might be running out of stuff and I may have missed some awesome bits and bobs that were sold yesterday and today, but I've just got payed so I won't hesitate to snap up whatever's left. Also there are generally more cosplayers on the Sundays - expect photos!

BTW guys, I've just thought of another project to muck around with for a bit. I'unno how long I'll spend with this one, basically it's a concept/plot for a plaform/adventure videogame, so there's not much i can do except draw characters and type a bunch of stuff about it.
It's largely based around wordplay, double meanings and such... like there's a machine called 'War' which has been sealed within a barrier called 'eace'. Then someone disturbs the Peace, which causes War to break out. Dark times ensue, but there is still Hope ('Hope' being our protagonist)
Hope has to collect all the Peace Pieces to restore Peace, and ultimately stop War.
I'm going for a sort of Sonic!Kirby!Klonoa!Rayman vibe with this, and most of the characters will be Super Deformed imp/sprite thingies.

Apart from Hope and War, I have plans for a few other characters,
- Quiet the PeaceKeeper (sort of ninja guy who guards Peace)
- MisChief the TroubleMaker (the one who disturbs Peace)
- False Hope (obligatory evil-twin character)

*PCBC is going quite well. After a week of being open for applications we have 2 entrants, and even if we only get 2 a week for the rest of the application period, it'll still make the whole thing worthwhile. I've literally lost count of the number of people who have shown an interest and said they are going to join, so it's looking promising.

Final Fantasy IV DS was released in PAL regions on friday. I have been blown away by this game! The voice acting is actually good! Very good! The story also has me captivated thus far! The DS-extra features feel a little tacked on and unecessary, with the one exception of the Theatre mode, where those tearjerking emotional cutscenes can be watched all over again and again! I'll not lie, this is one of the reasons I'm not expecting to draw so much for a week or so.

I have arranged a grudge match against fellow competitor ~OrdonCrane, pitting my Luci against his Lance.

*PCBC has begun taking tournament applications, incase I wan't plugging loud enough. Within 3 days we've had 2 confirmed participants, 3 more who have said they will be entering, and a number of others who have shown an interest. Considering the application period spans over the next 2 months, that's pretty good so far I reckon.
Answering questions, and typing out an FAQ journal has taken up alot of my free timeover since PCBC opened for business.
Also, dA generally seems to be addicting these days. I'll try and get some decent drawing time in tomorrow, I have things that I need to get onto paper.

I had to work today... on a saturday... that was crap. At least tomorrow I can wake up, do a bunch of stuff, and then go back to sleep.

I've promised plenty of AFL fanart, and also got myself involved in an art trade (their half is done...)

Final Fantasy 4 DS, Sonic Chronicles, Kirby Superstar Ultra, and Zero-G (I know you havn't heard of it but I've been waiting for this for an age) are all released in September. WHOOO!
Actually, that last one, they've been postponing the release date since may... it might not actually be released next month... meh.
Also, I knew Sonic Chronicles was reusing tunes from old Sonic games, but I never expected them to do a mix of the Saturn version of Sonic 3Ds Puppet Panic. That was an awesome surprise.

Okey, I think that just about covers everything...

So all my entries for the group stage are done. This is going to be really close, but all I can do now is wait...

Hooboy, this was a tough group to choose from. Rit has really gotten into the spirit of things. This group had more fights than any other, and this guy still manages to churn out a 6 page grudge match special on top of that.

Like, 1 o'clock this morning or something, and I stayed up to wait for the announcement. Not an intelligent thing to do when you have to get up at 7 to go to work on a friggin SATURDAY!!!

My first opponent is =BackAlleyScrapper and his character Gradient.

It took a good couple of hours of concentrated thought to think of a battle concept that A) was interesting and B) I could actually draw. The picture itself is now about half inked, and should be all did by tomorrow. Then I get to see who my next opponent is. Fun Fun!

Other stuff in the pipeline includes my ~PCBC Judge ref, as well as an ULTIMATE REFERENCE for my chosen OCBC4 combatant. But as many of you are already aware, my pipes have a knack of getting clogged by too many ideas at once. So my only guaruntee is 'i'm doing stuff, wait and see'

As for the *OCBC, I'm still enjoying sitting back and enjoying the fights. The second Redemption round should be particularly interesting - so much so that I wish I was participating (which I could have been, had I won my first round against ~rufiyaarose )
I'm also looking forward to OCBC4, to the extent that I'm working on a full on in depth reference for my chosen character, and I'm already planning her introduction and (brace yourselves) the extra comic that is to follow her potential victory. That's all a long way off though.

In the more immediate future, the *AngelCrusher Fighting League begins next week, which should be alot of fun and quench my desire to duke it out with other artists, for a little while at least.

But has anyone yet combined that concept with Pokémon? Alot of people already have their own trainer character/persona, and their ideal team of 6.
I think an OCBC style tournament with Pokémon teams is an awesome idea! But I need support and feedback to get this thing off the ground!
If you're not sure exactly what I mean, check out *OCBC now to get an idea of the tournament layout I'll likely be borrowing/adapting.

So what do you think everyone? Does this appeal to you? Would it appeal to other deviants you know? Or am I aiming at 2 totally different audiences and missing completely?

So just to make extra sure that I don't go all lazy again (or perhaps because I'm conident that I won't) I'm entering another, somewhat more laid back original character tournament - the second AFL hosted by *AngelCrusher

I'll be using relatively new character Luci mainly because I need to practice her action poses, because I'm storyboarding the first chapter of the LuCiD project - there, is said it, I'll try not to back out of this one. (But be patient, it might take a while)

At least I have a handful of Brawl related minicomics to fall back on.
