Just want to start by thanking everyone who favourited my stuff recently. I've had a lot in the last few weeks and haven't gotten around to thanking everyone personally, so here you all go XD
THANKS!

In other news... new job with BP (Petrol Stations - Reliance Petroluem). Great money but long hours. I did 59 hours last week and it's going to be over 50 this week, but my paychecks are decent, bordering on big. Lol..

As for photography, the Townsville Bulletin wrote a story on me but it's yet to be published. I took some photos of lightning in severe electrical storms that passed over recently. In one storm we had over 2000 strikes in just an hour. A photographer came to my place of work and took some photos of me and my camera for the article. I wonder when(if) they'll print it?

I shall submit a large number of photos soon. I know I've been saying that for a while but my computer broke down, and it's still broken, so I'll submit plenty soon when it's fixed!

Yes, I *AM* still alive... barely. Basically I want to hear any suggestions on how I can do things like make the subject more comfortable, settings, lighting, angles... ANYTHING that you can think of or wish to suggest or share, regardless of how big or small the point may be. When I take someone's photo, I want to have a wealth of knowledge and ideas at my fingertips and the best way to do that is through reading, experience and hearing the ideas and experiences of others... so if you feel as though you have something you might like to share, I'd love to hear it.

Preamble:
If you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all; This, regarding the following passage, as it is extracted from the Bible, and I do not wish to cop any heat for it. Despite the fact that I am an atheist, there are still sections of the Bible that contain wisdom worthy of pondering. I am not preaching, this is just something that I believe and wish to share. If you wish to post your comments or thoughts, feel free to do so, but keep this in mind.
Thanks.

Passage:
If I speak in the tongues of mortals and of angels but do not have love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith so as to remove mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away all my possessions and if I hand over my body so that I may boast, but do not have love, I gain nothing.

Love is patient; love is kind; love is not envious or boastful or arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice in wrong-doing, but rejoices in the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

Love never ends. But as for prophecies, they will come to an end; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will come to an end. For we know only in part, and we prophesy only in part; but when the complete comes, the partial will come to an end. When I was a child, I spoke like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child; when I became an adult, I put an end to childish ways. For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. And now faith, hope and love abide, these three; and the greatest of these is love.

things have been quiet lately on the photography front. i've been wrecking myself far too much (alcohol) and partying til i drop. although this is good, it also has its downsides, one of which is that i have taken almost no decent photos since my last journal update. happy new year to you all (belated) and so on and so forth.. I hope everyone has been happy and healthy!

This semester I studied PT1410 - Effective Photography, and for Assignment One, we had to take a blurred motion shot. I submitted this photograph - [link] - as my shot (one of 5 photos for this particular assignment).

I promised myself that if I got a HD I would print it out, mount it, frame it and give it to the ambo's as a thank-you for their help and the conversation/s that we had. I got a HD and I did just that. SO - the other day I get this phone call from Michael, one of the guys that I spoke to. He said thank you for the gift and that a bunch of the people there wanted prints of it to frame and put up in their homes!

How totally stoked am I about this? Well, I'm really flattered. Honestly, this is the reason that I got into photography - well, one of three main reasons:
1) personal enjoyment
2) the final product (the photos you see on my page here), and
3) the feeling of honour/satisfaction/joy that is gained from things just like this happening -- the enjoyment that others get from my work.

This makes it all worthwhile. Thanks so much, everyone - everyone who favourites my work, everyone who enjoys viewing my work - those who watch me here on dA and those who compliment me in real life - and those who want the real deal to view in person.

Something to consider: Is happiness a big enough goal to aim for in life?

Once upon a time I slept. That was more than a day ago. Now it's time to embark on that wondrous journey again.

I got my camera today and, as you can tell, I am happily burning the batteries dead. I've taken over 300 meg of photos so far, and deleted probably 250 meg of that.

It's a Panasonic DMC-LZ2.

It's awesome - but not quite as awesome as pie...

My puppy died yesterday at about 1pm my time (approximately 15hrs and 10 minutes prior to the posting of this journal entry).

She was 15 years old and was like a sister to me. We had a family lunch to celebrate her life then we buried her. It was pretty emotional for everyone in the family... My brother (Elliott) and I dug her grave.

She will be dearly missed. I guess she's at peace now, at least... that's a small consolation. She didn't die too peacefully at all but I guess that's the way the cookie crumbles.

She had a long life. She was always treated pretty well and when it came to her health, money was not considered to be a factor - if she needed help, no matter what it was, she got it.

Rest in peace Sophie. We love you.

This is a link to her picture in my scrapbook.
