It's time for a new journal entry! Well, it was time for a new journal entry ages ago! I've wanted to write something for a very long time but I've not been able to think of anything meaningful to write about! I'll admit that I find it very difficult to ramble or even express myself. I tend to write what I want precisely, which is great for completing exams but makes writing essays and journals a nightmare! I fear that I come across as sounding unsociable in my writing, but the truth is I'm just really bad at it! XD

There's been lots of changes in my life recently so I've been quite busy; lots of hopping up and down the country! I'm also up to things that are artwork related, but I don't really have anything to announce at the moment so I'll keep you posted!

Anyway, I'm going to use this as an opportunity to use my journal to feature other deviants! The features are open to everybody; just leave a comment that you'd like to be featured and I'll chose two of your deviations that I like the most. Don't worry, you don't have to do anything in return!

1. =gavenecko

2. ~HaYWiRe117

3. ~Linkakami

4. ~theBSDude

5. ~zutte-chan

6. ~Goldenwolf18
<img src="http://th02.deviantart.net/f...

I've been looking forward to it for about three months now, so it seems very strange that it's right around the corner! It's both very exciting and extremely daunting at the same time! This will be my very first time wearing cosplay!

Regardless of my nerves, the weekend's going to be a whole lot of fun! I'm going to the convention with my best friend who was extremely kind to go with me. I just worry that the weekend will be so busy that I'll be constantly shattered, I don't operate very well without sleep!

I don't expect that I'll know anybody there except for a couple of people, but I have these dinky little Chipper badges that I can give to people:

In other news; I'm still working on my sketch requests, don't worry I haven't forgotten about them! I've had a few requests that turned into art trades which have slowed me down. When it's a trade I feel more inclined to make something marginally decent. The piece I'm colouring now took four of my daily sketches to eventually draw something that I was happy with!

I'll be continuing to upload new sketches to my scrapbook, but you can also see them by keeping an eye on this gallery: [link]

Also, while you're here; please check out the awesome artwork that I've received from other deviants below! I've been spending a lot of time updating my website as well as being away on holiday for a few days (I went to visit family in the Lake District, nothing too fancy!). I've not had as much time to work on things, which isn't helped by the fact that the pieces I'm working on at the moment are pretty time consuming. I can assure you however that I have stuff on the way, deviantART is never far from my mind!

I've also been thinking about forcing myself to draw a sketch everyday. I won't be heavily enforcing it, but if I stick to it I get used to a routine fairly easily. It would be something very beneficial for me, the practice will greatly help with my speed, accuracy and motivation. I'm sure you're well aware of how difficult it is to pick up the pencil after not drawing for a while!

So, seeing as I'll be drawing everyday; please feel free to ask for requests! Please don't be afraid to ask, it would help me even more! It would only be a small pencil drawing though, unless it captivates me enough to pursue it further.

I hope everybody's well and enjoying the Summer!!

Update:
Thank you very much for the great response, I've already started working through the requests! There's no need to ask if you're allowed to have a request, just ask for what you'd like! Please make sure to include some kind of reference too.

Also, did I mention that they won't be very good? He wins himself a free request for which he ambiguously asked for something in the style of steam punk, Victorian or cowboy... Which is fantastic, I love all three settings! However, I feel really guilty for having so much creative power over a request! It's made me dizzy with ideas, hopefully it'll result in something interesting!

Secondly, Spring has hit the British Isles and the large cherry tree in our front garden recently burst into blossom. I don't particularly want to submit any of my photography to DeviantART (mine's not very good), but if you're interested you can see them over at my website:

Thirdly, I finally caved in and splashed out on the upgrade to Photoshop CS4! It's been two years since I first signed up, although to be honest I was barely active for the first year. The time has passed so quickly, it feels like no time at all!

You can probably tell where I'm heading with this journal... Don't worry, I'm not going to take this as an opportunity to thank everybody for supporting me and gush about how much I love you all. Okay, so that's a complete lie; but I promise I'll keep it short!

When on the internet you have a certain expectation that you'll receive a certain level of abuse. Whether it's death threats against your Gnome's life in an MMO, or defamatory comments on a YouTube video for no apparent reason. The internet and it's anonymity has a nasty habit of cultivating idiocy and general unsolicited behaviour.

DeviantART has been a bit of an oddity to me. In my two years on deviantART not a single bad word has been spoken to me, absolutely nothing to cause me to be upset. I know that it can't last forever, but I'm appreciative for the time that I spent here already. Maybe it's kudos to the deviantART community, or maybe ninja-like moderators, or perhaps it's just that I'm extremely lucky.

Regardless, I've received some the best support and nicest comments on deviantART that I've ever received in my life. To all of my friends (you know who you are!) and to everybody that quietly watches me, thank you! Thank you so much!

If you feel nauseous after reading this, you will find complementary paper bags have been provided underneath your seats.

The days are now so short that it's dark when I leave the house in the morning and it's dark when I leave to go home. Hopefully I can become a lot faster and more structured with my artwork, I'm going to try and keep to schedules the best I can. Also, at some point next year I'd like to be able to offer commissions. A couple of members on the deviantArt forums kindly identified what I was looking for - and that's a lightbox!

A lightbox appears to be the name given to several products, but basically what I was looking for was a backlit drawing board. There were several that I found, but this is the one that I settled on. An inexpensive A4 lightbox by Eyebright.

Aside from the obvious uses such as being able to work in the dark, the lightbox allows me to see through ordinary paper as if it were tracing paper. Which is great! Tracing paper is horrible!!

Normally I would ink over pencil lines, which can become a little messy and ultimately means losing the original pencil drawing. This allows me to ink directly onto a separate piece of paper.

Here you can see the three pieces of paper that make up this picture. The lines are normally more defined, but I'm not leaning on the paper in the photo.

I see through you!

That looks kind of spooky actually.

There's also another use, and it's probably my main reason for getting this. Often when I see a drawing that a drew a couple of months earlier, I'm horrified at the incorrect proportions and symmetry. My eyes tend to grow accustomed to what I've drawn so I miss glaring faults. It helps to flip drawings and work on them in reverse. Being able to see the drawing from a new perspective is invaluable. Well, it helps at least! I still have a lot of problems in that regard.

Due to the fact that I work office hours and live fairly high up the Northern Hemisphere, for most of the year I spend my time drawing in the dark. A light source is something that I use a lot. Although it doesn't get hot, the lightbox does gets warm with use. So it should come as no surprise when I say that this is going to be my best friend during winter!

I was messing with my camera and I was surprised how well this photo came out. She's only 2 inches tall!

Coincidentally I subscribed just a few hours shy of the date I originally created my account last year. Maybe it's a celestial sign, or more likely it's the result of year-long unconscious brainwashing on deviant art's part. Regardless of the cause, I now have the ability to collect stamps! Hurrah! Out of all the benefits of subscribing, stamp collecting is by far the most important.

Even though I've floated around for a year, I still feel very new to deviantART. I don't know many people here and my gallery is very small. Many aspects of the website still confuse me. For instance, when categorising a deviation you're given the choice between traditional art and digital art. My normal flow of work involves drawing on paper, scanning it and colouring it on my computer. Technically it's both. So, is my artwork traditional art that has been digitally enhanced, or is it digital art that uses traditional art as it's foundation? Ack! I wonder if the authors of literature also have to distinguish between traditional writing and digital writing? I wouldn't know, I can't write to save my life!

Anyway, hopefully you'll be seeing more activity from me. Unfortunately I work full time and don't get as much free time as I would like, so I'm not exactly in a position to do commissions or the like.
